Buccaneers | Mike Evans outstanding in December Sun Jun 29, 02:19 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans caught 34 passes for 512 yards and five touchdowns in December last season.
Footballguys view: Evans season was interrupted by a hamstring injury that cost him three games. This finish to 2024 should reassure you if you are considering Evans at or near his ADP of WR20 and 39 overall even though he'll turn 32 right before the season starts. Evans was WR10 last year in PPR leagues on a points per game basis, although he was WR21 when he and Chris Godwin went down in Week 7. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving scored all eight of his rushing touchdowns in the red zone this past season.
Footballguys view: Irving is not a big back, but his combination of vision, decisiveness, contact balance, and agility make him a great back in close quarters nonetheless. He was a fantasy RB1 once the Bucs put him atop the depth chart, and both Irving and the offense can be better in 2025. There's still potential for Irving to surpass his current Footballguys ADP of RB9 and 21 overall. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield threw for 1,123 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions during the fourth quarter of games last season.
Footballguys view: Reports earlier this year indicated new Bucs OC Josh Grizzard "won't try to reinvent the wheel." Mayfield was fantastic last year with now Jagaurs HC Liam Coen running the offense. It should be a rinse-and-repeat program this year for Mayfield, and that's got the attention of Fantasy GMs. His 41 touchdowns and 4,500 passing yards helped make him the no.3 fantasy quarterback in 2024 (standard leagues). Mayfield is a low-end QB1 in 2025 with the ability to crack the top-5 again. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Jason Licht signed multi-year contract extensions Thursday, June 26, according to sources. Bowles enters his fourth year as the Bucs' head coach after leading the team to three consecutive NFC South titles from 2022-24. Licht is the NFL's fifth-longest tenured traditional general manager, entering his 12th season as the team's GM.
Footballguys view: Bowles has a 27-24 record over the last three seasons, each time with a postseason run attached. The Buccaneers have won the NFC South each season, but they've yet to make a deep playoff run. Licht has done some solid work in the draft and free agency since they won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady. Now, with Baker Mayfield at quarterback, expect them to be division champs again with designs on making it at least to the Divisional Round. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka is going to 'have a big role in the offense - especially with Chris Godwin still recovering from ankle surgery - and even after,' according to ESPN.com's Jenna Laine.'The thing that sticks out is how cerebral he is. He's so smart. Right now, I think we could plug-and-play him at every (wide) receiver spot; he understands the offense that well. That's just him being a pro already,' quarterback Baker Mayfield said recently.
Footballguys view: If Godwin can't play to start the season, Egbuka profiles for the slot role, one that has been very lucrative in this Tampa Bay offense. While many are expecting a slow career start due to the intense target competition, the Buccaneers run a lot of 3WR sets. Egbuka could be a near full-time player right out of the gate, and possesses league-winning contingent upside if Godwin or Evans miss any time. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka has impressed WR Mike Evans during workouts and minicamp. 'He looks like a running back, but I mean, he catches like Chris Godwin,' Evans said. 'He's a very polished, very well-rounded player.'
Footballguys view: In Evans and Godwin, the Bucs have one of the top tandems in the league. Evans, a six-time Pro Bowler, can still dominate opponents. Godwin was fantasy's WR2 when a dislocated ankle ended his 2024 season in Week 7. Jalen McMillan flashed scoring potential last season, coming on strong down the stretch. The additions of Egbuka and seventh-rounder Tez Johnson give Tampa more wideouts than it can get on the field at once. Short-term investors may want to temper expectations for Egbuka. But he's is WR4 on the Footballguys Rookie Rankings, so the long-term value is there. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Haason Reddick said he's not taking part in minicamp workouts so that he doesn't add distractions.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Tristan Wirfs (knee) did not participate in mandatory minicamp practice on Tuesday, June 10, and was spotted with a brace on his right knee. Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters after practice that the team is taking a 'precautionary approach' with Wirfs and the expectation is he will 'be fine' for training camp.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan said he was focused on improving small details over the offseason. 'Just be where my feet are, have intent with all my actions,' McMillan said. 'Definitely to get stronger, get faster, get smarter, just keep my circle tight.'
Footballguys view: McMillan pulled in 37 receptions for 461 yards and eight touchdowns across his entire rookie campaign, but most of those numbers came between Weeks 14-18 when he went on a five-game TD streak with seven scores and 316 yards on 24 catches. Nonetheless, with Mike Evans and a healthy Chris Godwin sitting atop the depth chart, McMillan will have to compete with veteran Sterling Shepard and first-round pick Emeka Egbuka for the WR3 spot. McMillan's attitude is great, but his Footballguys projection -- WR75 -- reflects the uncertainty of his role. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE/LB Haason Reddick was among the players who were not present for the start of organized team activities on Tuesday, May 27, joining WR Mike Evans, WR Chris Godwin, LB Lavonte David, OT Tristan Wirfs and DT Vita Vea.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis said he likes that QB Baker Mayfield is aggressive at times during games but would like to see Mayfield avoid some of the hits he takes during games. 'So I would want that guy show up in the 'gotta have it' moments. Early in the game, if it's not there I would prefer him to throw it away or get down, or check it down, add to the punt. Let's play a little team ball; we have a good defense. Let's flip the field. We don't have to get it all in one shot,' Lewis said.
Footballguys view: With Liam Coen moving on to be the head coach of the Jaguars, we'll see if Bucs new OC Josh Grizzard tries to design plays to get the ball out of Mayfield's hand quickly. Mayfield has plenty of 'playground football' to his game, but that chaos can get him hit more than the team would like. Projecting Mayfield as a top-10 fantasy quarterback is a given, and we think he should post more than 4,000 yards passing and 30-plus passing touchdowns in 2025. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Rachaad White made a social media post that seemed to suggest that the 2025 season will be his last as a member of the Buccaneers.
Footballguys view: No surprise here, especially with the breakout season from Bucky Irving (as a rookie) in 2024. White will work in tandem with Irving again this year, serving as an option to pick up tough yards between the tackles. Last season, White had over 1,000 all-purpose yards and finished as the no.23 fantasy back in standard-scoring leagues. This year in early drafts, White is going off the board in the low-end RB3 range as Fantasy GMs expect Irving to do even more in 2025. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Anthony Landphere and LB Deion Jennings were waived Monday, May 12.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers first-round pick WR Emeka Egbuka signed his rookie, four-year, $18.1 million contract Friday, May 9. All first-round pick contracts include a fifth-year option.
Footballguys view: Egbuka is going to command attention from opposing defenses right away. He's got the ability to take the top off the defense immediately, and Egbuka has great hands to make difficult catches seem routine. Clearly a no.1 receiver of the future for the Buccaneers, Egbuka will learn behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin as a rookie. |

Link to storyTampa Bay WR Chris Godwin (ankle) will not need to rush back to the field since the team added WR Emeka Egbuka to the roster, according to general manager Jason Licht.
Footballguys view: After the Buccaneers took Egbuka in the first round last week, Licht said that the selection had nothing to do with how Godwin's rehab from a dislocated ankle is going. The Bucs were looking to the future with the Egbuka pick, but Licht noted that's also the case for Godwin. He said, "Three years in the NFL is long-term," in reference to Godwin's new contract, and that timeline is all the more reason not to overemphasize how quickly he is back in action. That makes sense. But it's still a situation to monitor closely as OTAs and other offseason work play out. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka feels like a 'luxury pick,' in the opinion of ESPN, which notes the team's depth at the receiver position makes it unclear if Egbuka would even be one of the team's top-three receivers in 2025.
Footballguys view: The Buccaneers have to think about the future at the wide receiver position with aging veterans like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin on the roster. Egbuka is a player with 'my ball' mentality (a former high school DB), and he does not back down from a challenge in coverage. He'll be able to learn alongside those quality veterans, and it won't take long for QB Baker Mayfield to love throwing him the ball. |
