Buccaneers | Emeka Egbuka to settle in as flanker Tue May 12, 04:05 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka will reportedly settle in as the 'Z' outside receiver, or flanker, after playing numerous spots as a rookie, according to Buccaneers.com's Scott Smith on Tuesday, May 12.
Footballguys view: Incoming Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson used to coach Cooper Kupp with the Rams, and he said on Tuesday that Egbuka has a very similar approach and instincts. The coach also confirmed the plan is for Egbuka to settle into the flanker role in the team's base offense, but that his football instincts make it easy to move him around in order to exploit matchups and maximize the production of the passing game this fall. Egbuka, who was WR4 over the first five games last year, is currently being drafted as WR19.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving (shoulder) will be limited at the start of OTAs.
Footballguys view: Irving is recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. According to local reports, the hope is that he'll be fully cleared by training camp. While he has been participating in rehab, team officials are taking a cautious approach to his return to full practice. We'll be watching for more on Irving in coming weeks. In the meantime, free-agent addition Kenneth Gainwell will get more work as the team installs new coordinator Zac Robinson's scheme.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Zac Robinson told the media that RB Bucky Irving and RB Kenneth Gainwell, 'can kind of match each other in certain ways with what they can do in the pass game.'
Footballguys view: Gainwell, who was signed to replace the departed Rachaad White, rushed for 537 yards and five touchdowns on 4.7 yards per carry, and caught 73 passes for 486 yards and three touchdowns for the Steelers last year. He eclipsed 1,000 scrimmage yards on the season and was voted by his teammates as Steelers team MVP. With Irving coming off shoulder surgery performed earlier this year, Gainwell will get a chance to get a head start in the team's new offense. We expect a timeshare with Irving leading the way, but Gainwell's progress should be monitored.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers third-round pick WR Ted Hurst could fill the X-receiver spot, according to offensive coordinator Zac Robinson. Hurst can run, has great hands and is an instinctual player, according to Robinson.
Footballguys view: According to Tampa Bay Times staffer Rick Stroud, Hurst "owned" the Bucs' first rookie minicamp, drawing the most targets and making the most catches over two days of practice. Hurst has big shoes to fill if he's going to handle the vacated Mike Evans role. But he has the size (6-4, 210 pounds) and speed (4.42) to be a true X receiver like Evans, who can stretch a defense both vertically and horizontally. Still, keep expectations in check as Hurst starts his career behind Emeka Egbuka, Chris Godwin Jr., and Jalen McMillan at the top of the depth chart.

Footballguys view: Daniels was one of Greg Cosell of NFL Films favorite quarterback prospects in this year's draft. He is a dual threat, but with a good arm and pocket presence. Daniels only has to beat out Jake Browning to back up Baker Mayfield this year.

Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers sixth-round draft choice TE Bauer Sharp signed a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Thursday, May 7. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Sharp was originally a quarterback when he entered college football. After three teams, Sharp enters the NFL as a special teams player with limited production at tight end. He can be moved around the formation at tight end, so in super deep dynasty formats, we'll be keeping tabs on Sharp.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers third-round draft choice WR Ted Hurst signed a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Thursday, May 7. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The Buccaneers selected Hurst out of Georgia State with the No. 84 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. He's got a great size/speed combination and has the physical traits to be a big-play weapon in the NFL. Jumping from the Sun Belt to the NFL is quite the leap, so Hurst has plenty to prove entering his first NFL season.

Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers LB Yaya Diaby is entering the final year of his contract, and he is a candidate for extension despite the fact he has never posted a double-digit sack figure in the NFL. However, he is very interested in signing long-term with the Bucs. 'I'm excited, I can't even lie. This is where I want to be, especially the team that drafted you,' he said in a TV interview. 'It's nothing but good; I love the fans, I love the coaches, I love my teammates, first and foremost. I love going to battle with them every single day.'

Link to storyUniversity of Kansas QB Jalon Daniels is signing an undrafted free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he is expected to receive a $247,000 base salary guarantee and $25,000 signing bonus, a source said Saturday, April 25.
Footballguys view: Daniels is on the short side at 6'0" and he has been an inconsistent turnover machine, but he does have a great arm and the running ability to be a dual threat quarterback, which matters a lot in fantasy football. Jake Browning is the Bucs current backup quarterback, so Daniels doesn't have to be that good to win the backup job. He could be on a similar career path to Tyrod Taylor or Josh Johnson.
