Eagles | James Proche trying out for Eagles Mon Jun 8, 11:52 AM
Free-agent WR James Proche (Titans) is participating in a tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles this week.
Footballguys view: Proche spent three years in Baltimore before bouncing on and off the Browns' roster from 2023 to 2024. Proche played for the Titans last season. One factor potentially working in Proche's favor is that he has a track record of contributing on special teams. Part of the impetus for the tryout could be related to the Eagles currently being a little short-handed at receiver. Makai Lemon is reportedly expected to miss practices this week due to a hamstring injury. Britain Covey did not participate in the Eagles' media-attended OTA practice last week. The team also waived Brandon Hayes on Friday evening.

Philadelphia Eagles S Michael Carter II has been seeing work with the first-team defense in dime situations, but he is no splitting work with S Marcus Epps, who remains the top safety in nickel packages.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles S Marcus Epps has been used as the top safety when the team is in its nickel defense, and there is no rotation at that spot so far in offseason practices.

Philadelphia Eagles QBs Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee are in a heated battle to serve as the primary backup to starter QB Jalen Hurts. The Eagles could try and trade McKee to a team in need of a quarterback this summer.
Footballguys view: The #3 quarterback will presumably be fifth round pick Cole Payton. He has some Taysom Hill usage potential, but is also a long term project who could be an option down the line if Jalen Hurts doesn't click with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Payton is an elite athlete and would generate a lot of fantasy value with his legs if he ever gets a shot. He also went to North Dakota State, like Eagles Super Bowl Champion Carson Wentz.

Philadelphia Eagles LB Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) is still recovering from offseason surgery to repair the left labrum in his shoulder. LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has been taking first-team snaps in offseason practices as a result.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert will remain a big part of the offense, and his usage isn't expected to be impacted much despite the departure of WR A.J. Brown (Patriots).
Footballguys view: The Eagles could use more two tight end sets if second round Eli Stowers - a converted quarterback who is almost as impressive athletically as Jets first round pick Kenyon Sadiq, but a more functional receiver with length at the catch point. In any scenario, Goedert will outproduce his ADP, the only question is how much.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley could be in line for more working catching the ball out of the backfield, thanks to the departure of WR A.J. Brown (Patriots). He was targeted just 50 times in 2025, and 43 times in 2024. In his final two seasons with the New York Giants, he had 136 total targets. Offensive coordinator Sean Mannion could look to use Barkley more in pass-catching situations to offset the loss of Brown.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Makai Lemon is dealing with a hamstring injury and could potentially miss next week's minicamp, according to a source on Tuesday, June 2.
Link to storyFree agent RB Elijah Mitchell (Patriots) signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, June 2. No terms of the deal were disclosed.
Footballguys view: Mitchell almost had 1000 yards as a rookie with the 49ers in 2021, but hasn't had a carry in an NFL game since 2023 because of injury issues. Speed is his calling card, and he is a good fit in the zone running game the Eagles are installing, so he could be a veteran practice squad candidate, or even make the team if injuries strike the Eagles backfield in camp or the preseason.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown was traded to the New England Patriots Monday, June 1, in exchange for a 2028 first-round draft choice and a 2027 fifth-round draft choice, according to sources.
Footballguys view: The Eagles have planned for Brown's departure all offseason, trading up in the first round of this year's draft for USC receiver Makai Lemon while also trading for Green Bay Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks and signing Marquise Brown and Elijah Moore as free agents. Smith's current ADP, he's WR15 being drafted with the 36th pick overall, is high enough to believe this trade is already factored in. We should add Smith to the list of fantasy WR2 prospects capable of WR1 finishes with Brown out of the picture.

Free-agent WR Samori Toure (Saints) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, June 1.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley reached out to retired RB Todd Gurley for advice on how to make the most of offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's system.
Footballguys view: Gurley was a teammate of new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion with the Rams in 2017-2018, and he had two of the best years of his career in the zone running game during the Sean McVay regime. Barkley will be running a lot more outside zone with the quarterback under center, so he is having to revamp his game. Offensive line health is a big question mark along with Barkley's adjustment physically and mentally to a one cut and go style of play, but this season should be a better offensive environment for him after playing in the disaster of an offense run by Kevin Patullo, who was let go in the offseason.

Philadelphia Eagles OT Markel Bell served as the right tackle with the first-team offense at organized team activities Wednesday, May 27, and could be viewed by the club as a potential swing tackle option this season.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown is not close to being traded as the team is seeking a first-round pick in return, and teams aren't willing to meet the price.
Footballguys view: While we're all hoping for a quick resolution post-June 1, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said on Wednesday night that the Patriots and Eagles may still be haggling over the trade terms. "I just don't know that it's going to be like 'snap your fingers, and the deal is done,'" Rapoport said. "They're not particularly close, and there's a chance this could drag on for the foreseeable future." Still, as Profootballtalk.com notes, just because the two sides haven't agreed on compensation at this point does not mean a deal won't go through next week. Stay tuned.

Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles second-round draft choice TE Eli Stowers signed a four-year contract with the Eagles Monday, May 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Stowers should take over for Dallas Goedert in 2027 and could contribute right away on passing downs as a more athletic version of the veteran. As Footballguy Sigmund Bloom notes, the Eagles' passing game isn't known for boosting pass-catcher value, but Goedert has been relevant even with two top wide receivers, so Stowers has a high floor to go along with his high ceiling. He merits first-round consideration in 1QB, non-IDP dynasty drafts.

Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles fifth-round draft choice QB Cole Payton signed a four-year contract with the Eagles Thursday, April 30. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Payton is a top end athlete, but not very advanced as a processor in the pocket. He has played a few snaps as a tight end and would be one of the most athletic tight ends in the league if he converted. Jalen Hurts is a free agent in 2028 and the team doesn't appear to have plans to extend his contract right now, so Payton is a good late round pick in dynasty superflex drafts.

Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles WR Makai Lemon signed his rookie contract with the team on Thursday, April 30. It is a 4-year fully guaranteed deal that includes a $11.5 million signing bonus.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles TE Eli Stowers has rare athleticism, according to head coach Nick Sirianni. 'He does some things that no one else can do,' Sirianni said. 'Just to be able to create mismatches with him. He is a tough cover, catches everything, good after the catch, speed, quickness. Really excited to have him.'
Footballguys view: Stowers was arguably the best receiving tight end in this draft class. A converted quarterback, Stowers knows where to sit down in a zone and comes back to the ball. Stowers brings speed and athleticism to the field at the tight end position. The Eagles should find ways to get him on the field behind Dallas Goedert. With Goedert hitting free agency in 2027, Stowers can be considered the future at the position.
Philadelphia Eagles A.J. Brown will likely be traded to the New England Patriots for a first-round draft pick when the trade 'comes together' on June 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: The two sides have discussed a deal, according to Schefter, but neither has been willing to commit to it before June 1 -- when the Eagles could split Brown's $43 million dead salary cap charge between this year and next. But everything is lining up for a move to happen. The Eagles drafted rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and they also signed three veterans in Elijah Moore, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, and Dontayvion Wicks. Meanwhile, the Patriots passed completely on drafting a wide receiver. Stay tuned.
