Lions | Jahmyr Gibbs on a record TD pace    Mon Feb 9, 12:23 AM

Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs' 49 total touchdowns are the most in NFL history by a player age-23 or younger.

Footballguys view: Since being selected 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Gibbs has done exactly what the Lions envisioned -- and more. In addition to the touchdown production, Gibbs has averaged 5.3 yards per carry over three seasons. He's solidified himself as a cornerstone of Detroit's offense, and that's not going to change in 2026, even with a change of offensive coordinators. Gibbs, who finished as RB4 in 2025, will be locked in as a top pick this summer.

Lions | Jared Goff excited about new OC    Tue Feb 3, 12:23 AM

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff said he is excited to work with offensive coordinator Drew Petzing and that other quarterbacks that have worked with Petzing have given him great reviews.

Footballguys view: Petzing will be Detroit's third offensive coordinator in the last three years. John Morton replaced Ben Johnson after Johnson became the head coach of the Bears in January 2025, but Morton's run calling plays ended when head coach Dan Campbell took over those responsibilities during the season. The Lions still finished fourth in the league in points scored, but it wasn't enough for the Lions to return to the postseason. Goff said he hopes the change leads to a return to the consistency of previous seasons. "I think he was a home run hire," Goff said.

Lions | Jared Goff helped with YAC    Sun Feb 1, 11:07 AM

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff had 2,424 of his 4,564 passing yards this season come after the catch, which led the league in that category.

Footballguys view: Despite a coordinator change, Goff continued his run of highly efficient seasons, posting the second-best passer rating of his 10-year career. But he remained heavily reliant on short throws and yards after the catch, maximizing the roster's speed-and-space arsenal. His average pass traveled just 6.43 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. It's a reminder for fantasy investors that supporting casts matter. Goff, who was drafted as QB12 in 2025, finished the year as QB8.

Lions | Jahmyr Gibbs found running room before contact    Sun Feb 1, 11:02 AM

Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs recorded 819 rushing yards before contact this season, which ranked third in the NFL in that category.

Footballguys view: That's obviously a plus, but since being selected 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Gibbs has done exactly what the Lions envisioned -- and more. Over his first three NFL seasons, Gibbs has averaged 5.3 yards per carry, scored 13 touchdowns per season, and become a matchup nightmare as both a runner and receiver. He's solidified himself as a cornerstone of Detroit's offense, and that's not going to change in 2026, even with a change of offensive coordinators. Gibbs, who finished as RB4 in 2025, will be locked in as a top pick this summer.

Lions | Jameson Williams has issues with drops    Tue Jan 20, 12:06 AM

Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams recorded a league-high 12 drops during the 2025 regular season.

Footballguys view: Yes, this was an issue, and Williams has room for improvement. As previously noted, there was still plenty to like here. Williams ranked third in the NFL with 23 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2025, and his 17.2 yards per reception ranked third among players who appeared in at least 10 games. He also posted career bests of 65 catches and 1,117 receiving yards en route to a WR21 finish. Williams will work on improving his strength this offseason. He'll likely work on his receiving as well.

Lions | Former Cardinals OC Drew Petzing gets same job in Detroit    Mon Jan 19, 04:26 PM

The Detroit Lions are hiring former Arizona Cardinals OC Drew Petzing as their offensive coordinator, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday, per sources informed of the situation.

Footballguys view: Petzing had been the Cardinals' offensive coordinator the past three seasons under Jonathan Gannon, who was fired by the team after the season. The expectation during the interviews was that head coach Dan Campbell would relinquish playcalling for whoever was hired. Detroit was still among the league leaders in total points per game (28.3) but struggled to find an offensive identity outside of home run plays this season despite having Pro Bowl selections Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs, among other playmakers. Under Ben Johnson, the Lions led the NFL with 33.2 points per game in 2024.

Lions | Jameson Williams delivered big plays    Sun Jan 18, 11:18 PM

Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams ranked third in the NFL with 23 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2025, and his 17.2 yards per reception ranked third among players who appeared in at least 10 games.

Footballguys view: Williams continued his progression in his fourth season as a pro. The 24-year-old wideout posted career bests of 65 catches and 1,117 receiving yards. He has recorded back-to-back campaigns with 1,000 receiving yards. He's averaged 17 yards per catch in his career and 17.2 yards per reception the past two years combined. Williams finished the season as WR21. While he benefited greatly from Dan Campbell taking over as playcaller, a new offensive coordinator will likely change that. We'll be watching for more.

Lions | Detroit to interview Zac Robinson    Thu Jan 15, 02:18 AM

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is expected to interview for the vacant Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator position on Thursday, Jan. 14, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Robinson's offense didn't really click with the Falcons, but that could have been from the quarterback play of Michael Penix and Kirk Cousins. He's a disciple of Sean McVay, and that's going to be attractive to teams out there (with better quarterbacks) who want that West Coast philosophy.

Lions | David Blough considered for OC job     Wed Jan 7, 01:48 PM

Lions | OC John Morton has been fired    Tue Jan 6, 05:03 PM

The Lions fired offensive coordinator John Morton.

Footballguys view: As AtoZ Sports suggested, we all knew this day would come, the week that Lions head coach Dan Campbell took over play-calling from offensive coordinator John Morton. This is something that coordinators usually don't survive, and we saw that when Campbell took over for Anthony Lynn in 2021. Now Morton has the same fate as Lynn. We'll be watching for more on this in coming weeks.

Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown caught 11 of his 15 targets for 139 yards in a 19-16 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 18.

Footballguys view: As CBSSports.com noted, St. Brown shook off a questionable designation (knee) and put together one of his best performances of the season. He led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and targets. His 24.9 fantasy points ranked third among receivers through Sunday night's kickoff. St. Brown finished the year with 117 receptions for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns and added three carries for nine yards across 17 games. St. Brown, who finishes the season as WR3 overall, will naturally serve as a centerpiece of the Lions' air attack again in 2026.
