Chiefs | Alex Okafor returning to Kansas City Tue Jul 20, 01:59 PM
Free-agent DE/LB Alex Okafor (Chiefs) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday, July 20. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Okafor played 21 games for the Chiefs over the last two years, including nine starts, contributing 8 sacks. The team doesn't have a strong #2 edge rusher behind Frank Clark, who has a felony concealed weapons charge hanging over him right now. They could decide to use Chris Jones more at end, but Okafor should be able to provide some quality situational snaps in any event.|

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes excited for 2021 Thu Jul 8, 12:30 PM
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe) reiterated this week that he's feeling healthy and is eager for the 2021 season. 'The toe's feeling great,' he said during an interview that aired on NFL Network on Thursday, July 8. 'I'm out here playing golf, being able to walk around the course. I've been running, cutting, jumping, throwing, doing it all. So I'm just excited to get back to training camp and have another chance to make a run at it and win the Super Bowl this year.'
|Footballguys view: Mahomes is back and healthy for the 2021 season. He was banged up during the Chiefs playoff run with a toe injury and you could tell that he wasn't his normal self in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs revamped their offensive line this offseason to better protect Mahomes and they'll once again have one of the most high-powered offenses in the league.|

Chiefs | Andrew Wylie on the way out? Wed Jul 7, 04:04 PM
Kansas City Chiefs OG Andrew Wylie has started 35 games for the team over the past three seasons but is facing a numbers game after the Chiefs added Joe Thuney in free agency and Trey Smith in the draft. Kansas City is also welcoming back Laurent Duvernay-Tardif after he opted out last season. As a result, Wylie is likely on the roster bubble, according to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.Link to story
Chiefs | Drops an issue for Mecole Hardman Fri Jul 2, 11:52 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman had 15 more receptions on 21 additional targets in 2020 compared to his rookie season, finishing with 22 more receiving yards and a 13.7 drop rate.
|Footballguys view: Hardman has plenty of speed to take the top off the defense but the drops and inconsistent play have limited his fantasy value. The reporters around the Chiefs have been going on and on about rookie TE Noah Gray who could get more work in the passing game behind starter Travis Kelce. Even with Sammy Watkins moving on, this news about Gray means assuming Hardman will have a larger role than he has over the last two years may be unwise.|

Chiefs | Noah Gray may have big role as rookie Mon Jun 21, 03:25 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Noah Gray may receive significant playing time as a rookie after showing impressive pass catching and route running during offseason workouts, according to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.
|Footballguys view: Gray is a good all-purpose tight end who can contribute as a move blocker and receiver. He's not a seam ripper with long speed, but Gray does have great route-running ability and can become a trusted target for his quarterback. We'll see how much he gets into the mix behind starter Travis Kelce.|
Chiefs | Clyde Edwards-Helaire looking to improve hands Fri Jun 18, 03:36 PM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire said he has been working on improving as a pass catcher this season because he knows the team likes to throw the ball. 'Working on my hands and catching,' Edwards-Helaire said. 'I wouldn't say it was a problem last year, but just understanding our offense - we move the ball around and we spread the field - so why not work on something that I feel like I can improve on? That was one of my steps as far as improvement goes.'
|Footballguys view: Edwards-Helaire excited us most last year because of what he could with the passing game opportunity that Damien Williams vacated when he opted out. This year, Jerick McKinnon is on the roster to push Edwards-Helaire in the passing game, but overall the arrow is pointing up with glowing reports about Patrick Mahomes throwing to him in minicamp.|
Chiefs | Martinas Rankin cut Thu Jun 17, 08:08 PM
Kansas City Chiefs OT Martinas Rankin was waived Thursday, June 17.
|Footballguys view: Rankin was acquired for Carlos Hyde in 2019 and started at left guard before suffering a serious knee injury. The Chiefs overhauled their offensive line this offseason and Rankin missed OTAs and the mandatory minicamp, so this move wasn't a surprise.|
Chiefs | KC adding Darrius Shepherd Thu Jun 17, 01:19 PM
Free agent WR Darrius Shepherd (Packers) is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, June 17, per sources.
|Footballguys view: Shepherd, a Kansas City native, was a star in college at North Dakota State and went undrafted to the Packers in 2019. He spent two seasons in Green Bay, working mostly as a special teams player and return man. That should be his role with the Chiefs if he makes the 53-man roster.|

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes says he's a full go Thu Jun 17, 12:38 PM
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe) is feeling extra confident about the condition of his foot after participating at close to a full level during the team's offseason program so far. 'I don't see any problems moving forward,' Mahomes said during a new conference Thursday, June 17. 'Obviously, I'll have to continue with the rehab, continue to work on those things -- strengthen it, do all that different type of stuff. But I feel like I had a good OTAs, a good minicamp. I was able to move around, scramble around and do the things that I needed to do.'
|Footballguys view: Mahomes was banged up last year in the playoffs and didn't quite look like himself. He's been ahead in his recovery and should be full strength at the start of training camp. Mahomes is pretty much there at this point, so expect zero limitations when camp begins later this summer.|

Chiefs | Le'Veon Bell not interested in return Sat Jun 12, 06:22 PM
Free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell (Chiefs) said he is not interested in playing for Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid again.
|Footballguys view: We don't know exactly what made this relationship sour, but if Bell can't fit in on an Andy Reid team, then he might not find a place that interests him this year. He doesn't have a pulse in fantasy circles at this point.|

Chiefs | Kamalei Correa let go Thu Jun 3, 04:49 PM
Kansas City Chiefs LB Kamalei Correa was released Thursday, June 3.
|Footballguys view: Correa was once a second-round pick for the Ravens back in 2016, and he was a rare miss by Ozzie Newsome. He was traded to the Titans for a sixth round pick in 2018, and then last year the Titans traded him and a seventh round pick to the Jaguars for a sixth round pick. Correa left the team before the end of the season. The Chiefs signed him last month after the draft, but he only lasted less than a month.|

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes feeling good Thu Jun 3, 03:09 PM
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe) said he believes he would be able to play now if it was the regular season.
|Footballguys view: Previous reports state that Mahomes has been a full participant in practice. He'd be ready to go if he needed to play a game, and he'll be ready for full participation in training camp. After battling through a toe injury as the Chiefs made another Super Bowl run, it will be nice to see the superstar back at full strength.|

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes a full participant Thu May 27, 06:49 PM
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe) has been a full participant during workouts this week, according to head coach Andy Reid.
|Footballguys view: Mahomes battled through the toe injury as the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl. He was not himself in the big game but showed great toughness dealing with this painful injury. Reports came out about a month ago that Mahomes was ahead of schedule in his recovery from offseason surgery. There is no doubt he will be ready to go at the start of training camp.|

Chiefs | Noah Gray brings flexibility Fri May 21, 10:21 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Noah Gray lined up in multiple positions during rookie minicamp, including fullback. 'I think you don't just pigeonhole him as just a receiving tight end,' assistant personnel director Mike Bradway said. 'I think the guy's got some ability to be more than that. He is something different than we've had the last couple years.'
|Footballguys view: Gray is an interesting prospect due to his landing spot. The Chiefs offense could bring out the best in him. Gray knows how to make difficult catches and can find the soft spot in a zone (he used to play high school quarterback so he knows where to be). He's not overly athletic and lacks burst. However, in this offense we will keep an eye on him in deeper dynasty formats.|
Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes set for OTAs Fri May 21, 02:03 PM
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe) remains ahead of schedule in his recovery from offseason toe surgery and will participate in the Chiefs' OTAs, which begin Tuesday, May 25, according to a source. Mahomes will 'do some stuff' in OTAs, the source added, and should then be fully ready for the start of training camp.
|Footballguys view: Mahomes was probably affected more by his toe injury than we know, but it sounds like we shouldn't worry at all about it affecting him in the 2021 season.|

Chiefs | KC adds Daurice Fountain Mon May 17, 02:09 PM
Free-agent WR Daurice Fountain (Colts) signed with the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, May 17. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Fountain must have impressed during his tryout. He has electricity to his game but his pro career has been set back by injuries. In crazy deep dynasty formats we'll monitor him, especially since he's with the Chiefs.|
Chiefs | Daurice Fountain trying out Fri May 14, 09:39 PM
Free-agent WR Daurice Fountain (Colts) is participating in the Kansas City Chiefs rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
|Footballguys view: Fountain was a super deep sleeper when he joined the Colts a few years ago. However, injuries have derailed his career and took away most every chance he's had to impress. If healthy, Fountain can make plays but he's a long shot to make the Chiefs on this tryout.|

Kansas City Chiefs second-round draft choice C Creed Humphrey, fourth-round draft choice DE Joshua Kaindoh, fifth-round draft choice TE Noah Gray and fifth-round draft choice WR Cornell Powell signed four-year contracts with the Chiefs Thursday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: The player we are most interested in here is Powell. He may be a no.2 receiver for the Chiefs someday, a role that would have plenty of fantasy value. Powell has great ball skills and can track passes down field with ease. He needs to clean up his route running but the skill is there for him to be a no.2 in the league. Gray is a player we'll monitor in dynasty formats, and his skill set is that of an H-back/Tight End who can contribute as a receiver and as a blocker.|

Chiefs | Cornell Powell eyeing No. 2 gig? Fri May 7, 10:42 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Cornell Powell had the second-highest win rate of any receiver in one-on-ones against press coverage during the Senior Bowl, according to Mike Renner of Pro Football Focus, and Renner believes that skill will translate quickly in the NFL and give Powell a chance to win the No. 2 receiver job as a rookie.
|Footballguys view: The Chiefs could have gotten a solid future starter in Powell...in the fifth round! Powell is a Clemson wide receiver, and he was initially buried on the depth chart in college by several future NFL wideouts. As a senior, he flourished and showed why he was a Tigers recruit. Powell has great ball skills and can track passes down field with ease. He needs to clean up his route running but the skill is there for him to be a no.2 in the league. In THAT offense, he certainly has a ton of fantasy potential if he eventually wins that job.|
