Giants | Tyrone Tracy Jr. expected to have big role Sun Jul 12, 03:26 PM
New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. is expected to have a sizable role in the backfield. While RB Cam Skattebo is expected to see slightly more than half of the carries, Tracy is valuable not only in the run game, but for his hands. In terms of all-purpose yardage, he has two 1,000-yard seasons in his first two NFL seasons. He is also expected to be in the mix for work on kickoff returns.
Footballguys view: Tracy was a receiver in college, and that skill set has translated well to his early NFL career. Skattebo is also a great receiver, giving this backfield some promising young depth. Skattebo is still recovering from a season-ending ankle injury, putting Tracy in line for what could be extra early-season work. He's falling into the double-digit fantasy rounds, providing a bit of stand-alone value and contingent upside in the event of an injury to Skattebo.
Miami Dolphins RB Anthony Hankerson, who played his school football in the competitive South Florida area, is a candidate for the practice squad. He is battling RBs Donovan Edwards and Carlos Washington Jr. on the depth chart behind veteran RBs De'Von Achane, Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins RB Carlos Washington Jr. has some special teams experience in the NFL, but he is expected to be a practice squad candidate behind RBs De'Von Achane, Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright. RB Donovan Edwards is another player expected to be a practice squad guy.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins RB Donovan Edwards was signed in January after spending most of the year in 2025 on the Washington Commanders practice squad. As long as RBs De'Von Achane, Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright remain healthy, Edwards is expected to be a practice squad candidate in South Florida, too.
Link to storyHouston Texans RB Woody Marks has been working on learning the route tree, as it is anticipated that he will have a larger role in the passing game behind RB David Montgomery. 'He's going to get lots of opportunities. Last year we brought him along slower, which was good to help him kind of learn the game. And once he learned the game, he played a lot faster,' running backs coach and assistant head coach Danny Barrett said. 'And you can see him now playing even faster. So, his role is going to pick up some third downs, special teams. He's a kickoff return guy. But, more importantly, probably in the passing game as well.'
Footballguys view: Marks was a solid receiver in college, leading all NCAA running backs in 2021 with a ludicrous 83 receptions. He saw his workload expand late last year as a rookie, as Nick Chubb's efficiency became a concern. The Texans brought in Montgomery to be the RB1 this year, but Marks could find a role on passing downs. It's worth noting that Montgomery is no slouch of a receiver, pacing for over 50 targets per season with the Bears. However, Marks could find a consistent receiving role this season, although meaingful upside would likely require Montgomery to miss some time.
Tennessee Titans RB Tyjae Spears will have an important role in the offense this season, according to head coach Robert Saleh, who added that he is a solid performer in passing-down situations.
Footballguys view: Spears' talent has been undeniable since his days at Tulane. He's explosive and bouncy, showing utility as both a rusher and receiver. The issues have been his health and availability. Spears tore his ACL twice in college, and it became public knowledge through the pre-draft process that he had no ACL in his right knee. After a promising rookie season, Spears' workload was ramped up, and injuries followed. A new coaching staff could expand his role. Spears' skill set with increased volume could quickly put him on the fantasy radar. He's worth targeting in drafts if there's a steady drumbeat throughout camp, but Spears carries an obvious injury-related red flag.

Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane's 5.62 yard per carry for his career is the best mark of any running back in NFL history with a minimum of 500 carries.
Footballguys view: Achane has been historically efficient since his rookie season. As his workload has grown, his efficiency has cooled off slightly, but he is still among the elite. His game-breaking quickness consistently turns minute gains into chunk plays. 2026 is set to be the biggest challenge of his career, where he will be the lone weapon with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Tua Tagovailoa all gone. The uncertainty about his outlook has him falling into Round 2, where his range of outcomes is vast.
Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry's 17 runs of 20-plus yards last season led the NFL and were four more than any other player.
Footballguys view: Henry's game has always involved wearing down defenses and breaking off big runs late. Ten of those 17 runs of 20-plus yards from last season came in the second half of games. Henry is getting up there in age, heading into his age-32 season. Still, he's shown no signs of wearing down. His advanced age is baked into his fantasy cost, where he's typically going between Rounds 2 and 3.
Derrick Henry player page
Miami Dolphins RB Ollie Gordon II and RB Jaylen Wright will compete for the No. 2 running back job during training camp.
Footballguys view: Achane is the clear top dog here, and there might not be much left over in what projects to be a low-scoring Dolphins' offense. We'll keep an eye on this battle throughout training camp, but both running backs would be an injury away from a meaningful workload.
San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey can be an elite running back 'for at least one more year,' according to an NFC executive. 'But he's such an elite overall player with versatility who takes care of himself,' the executive said.
Footballguys view: McCaffrey is coming off another superb year as he heads into his age-30 season. Ricky Pearsall is expected back and healthy. The team drafted De'Zhaun Stribling. The signed Mike Evans and Christian Kirk. There are more mouths to feed than last year, but McCaffrey is clearly the engine powering the offense. He's being valued as a consensus top-six pick, and if healthy, he can finish as fantasy's top-scoring player again.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley had four runs of 20-plus yards last season after recording 17 such runs the previous year.
Footballguys view: Barkley's 2024 season was highlighted by breakaway runs through the second level, but he was regularly tripped up there in 2025. With Kevin Patullo out of the picture, there's hope that Sean Mannion can get this offense back on track. A lack of a deep postseason run and minimized usage could lead to fresher legs for Barkley. He's settling into Round 2 of fantasy drafts, where both his upside and downside are being recognized.

Tennessee Titans RB Tyjae Spears said has been trying to consistently improve this offseason.
Footballguys view: A third-round pick in 2023, Spears has played in 42 games over three seasons, with three starts. He's totaled 1,048 rushing yards and eight touchdowns over that time while also catching 127 passes for 873 yards and two more scores. In June, Titans coach Robert Saleh called Spears one of the "bell cows" at the running back position, where Spears plays alongside veteran Tony Pollard. The Titans plan to use Pollard and Spears plenty in 2026, but what the division of carries and reps looks like remains to be seen. Pollard is being drafted as RB29; Spears is RB42.

Buffalo Bills RB Ray Davis is 'an excellent backup' to James Cook III, according to ESPN's Aaron Schatz.
Footballguys view: While Cook deservedly gets the accolades, Schatz notes that Davis averaged 4.7 yards per carry and 8.6 yards per reception with two receiving touchdowns in his reserve role last year. He was also one of the top kick returners in the NFL. Davis is being drafted as RB64 in the 17th round. That's a great price for an insurance policy.
New England Patriots RB Terrell Jennings 'appears to have the early edge' in the battle to be the No. 3 running back behind RB Rhamondre Stevenson and RB TreVeyon Henderson.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, the 6-foot, 220-pound Jennings appears to have that edge based on his work with the first-unit punt protection team. A 2024 undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M, he finished last season on injured reserve (concussion) after having been signed from the practice squad and appearing in seven games.
Houston Texans RB Woody Marks' role this season is expected to include more pass-catching duties and a new role on kickoff returns.
Footballguys view: Marks emerged as the starting running back as a rookie, replacing Nick Chubb as the primary centerpiece of an up-and-down running game. This year, Marks is adapting smoothly to a complementary role behind featured veteran David Montgomery after an offseason trade for the former Lion and Bear. "I think the key for Woody is understanding his role, which he does," RBs coach and assistant head coach Danny Barrett told KPRC 2. "He's going to get lots of opportunities." But those opportunities will come behind Montgomery. Marks is currently being drafted as RB42 in Round 11.
Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue admitted he 'wasn't really there' in his rookie season of 2025, but he is 'ready to go now'. The former University of Texas star enters the season in a battle to be the primary backup to RB Javonte Williams. 'I didn't start off like I should have,' Blue said. 'Maybe if it was not practicing the right way or just on a maturity level, I think I wasn't really there. But just learning from all the vets, having the offseason that I've had, I think I'm ready to go.'
Footballguys view: The Cowboys need much more from Blue in Year 2. He's the ideal complement to Williams, but his rookie season was a dud. Blue only had 129 yards and one touchdown on 38 carries in 2025. He didn't make his debut until Week 5. This year, the Cowboys believe Blue's ability as a pass catcher would make him the perfect match with Williams. What Blue could bring in the passing game would also add another element to what should again be one of the NFL's best offenses. The price is right. Blue is being drafted as RB70 outside Round 20.
Javonte Williams player page
New England Patriots RB Jam Miller should be 'in the thick of things' in the running back competition during training camp, according to Jordy McElroy of PatriotsWire.
Footballguys view: Miller was a productive running back at Alabama and followed that up with an impressive showing at the NFL Combine. Despite that, he fell to Round 7 in the draft. The Patriots have a long history of hitting on late-round picks and UDFAs, giving Miller a bit more appeal than he may have on other rosters. He'd need some good reports in training camp to hit the redraft radar, but he's absolutely worth a stash in dynasty leagues.
Seattle Seahawks RB George Holani received the bulk of the snaps with the first-team offense during the Seahawks' six full-squad practice sessions that were open to reporters, according to ESPN.com's Brady Henderson. Holani, Jadarian Price and Emanuel Wilson are expected to share playing time in the Seattle backfield while RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Footballguys view: Holani is squarely in Seattle's backfield plans for 2026 as he looks to build off his strong finish to 2025, when he performed well as a fill-in for Charbonnet. According to Footballguy Matt Waldman, Holani has agility, contact balance, and solid speed for his size. He has worked his way from undrafted free-agent status to potential playing time if he can hold off Wilson, as Charbonnet's projected early-season return is too optimistic.

New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo was praised for his running style by head coach John Harbaugh. 'He's a tough tackle,' Harbaugh said. 'That's what you look for. How many guys can make yards when they're not supposed to make yards on their own?'
Footballguys view: Skattebo, coming off last year's season-ending ankle injury, insists he will be ready for the Sept. 13 season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on a Sunday night at MetLife Stadium. He's confident to come back strong. "Week 1, I'll be ready to go," Skattebo said last month. Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. give the Giants two solid options at the position. But Skattebo is the player of most fantasy interest in this backfield, and it's not close. He's currently being drafted as RB19; Tracy is going as RB42 in Round 10.
Free-agent RB Nick Chubb (Texans) is unlikely to receive interest from the Cleveland Browns, in the opinion of The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot.
Footballguys view: According to various reports, the Packers, Seahawks, and Bills are seen as leading candidates to sign Chubb for depth and short-yardage roles. While a severe 2023 knee injury reduced Chubb's explosiveness, he showed flashes of effectiveness with the Texans in 2025. Chubb could provide veteran stability for teams with injured starters or unproven backups heading into the season. But it sounds like the Browns, who drafted Chubb in the second round back in 2018, won't be in the mix there.
Nick Chubb player page
Seattle Seahawks RB Jadarian Price 'looked plenty capable as a pass catcher' during spring practices, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Price didn't amass many targets in college, but that was largely due to Notre Dame's system rather than a knock on his skill set. Price is a fluid mover who has soft hands, so this shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Especially with Zach Charbonnet expected to miss the early part of the year, Price could find a valuable role as the Seahawks' pass-catching back.
Arizona Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love took snaps with both the first and second teams during OTAs and minicamp.
Footballguys view: Drafted third overall, the expectation is that Love handles the bulk of the work in the Cardinals' offense. James Conner is 31 and coming off a torn ACL. Trey Benson, despite his alluring athletic profile, hasn't done much so far in the NFL. Love could struggle behind the Cardinals' offensive line, but the volume and talent could push him into a valuable role.
Dallas Cowboys RB Malik Davis seems to be the leading candidate for the No. 2 running back job this upcoming season, in the opinion of NFL.com's Kevin Patra.
Footballguys view: While Davis the frontrunner, Dallas would love for Jaydon Blue to make a leap in Year 2 and snag a pass-catching role, providing a change of pace to Javonte Williams. The Cowboys could also look for Phil Mafah to take on more of a role. Dallas spent the offseason giving the two second-year backs more reps in the hope one would stand out. Coaches will likely curtail Williams' usage during training camp, allowing the youngsters to take on additional snaps and see who can take a step forward. Still, expect Davis to be the No. 2 until further notice.
Buffalo Bills RB James Cook could become a bigger part of the passing game with new offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, in the opinion of beat writer Matt Parrino.
Footballguys view: Parrino noted that Carmichael's time in New Orleans, working under Sean Payton, offers a clue: In his first five seasons as a pro, Alvin Kamara had the most receptions by a running back in any five-year span in NFL history. "I think one part of the evolution of this offense with Carmichael here now is getting Cook more involved in the passing game," Parrino said. Cook caught 44 passes in 2023, and Parrino believes that's a realistic total this year. Cook is being drafted as RB5 with the ninth pick overall. This news further solidifies that value.
Seattle Seahawks RB Jadarian Price will reportedly 'share time' with RBs George Holani and Emanuel Wilson as Seattle waits for RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) to return from injury, according to a source on Monday, June 29. Price was also not drafted with the thought that he'd become a high-volume starter right away.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Brady Henderson noted, Price will share time with Holani and Emanuel Wilson as Seattle waits for Zach Charbonnet to return. One question with Price is his ability to contribute in the passing game after he finished his college career with only 15 receptions. He looked plenty capable as a pass catcher during the spring, but how he handles pass protection will be a factor in earning playing time. All that said, Price's RB26 ADP leaves a lot of room for upside if the rookie begins asserting himself early in the season.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Tank Bigsby could earn a bigger offensive role if he performs well during training camp and the preseason, in the opinion of EaglesWire's Glenn Erby.
Footballguys view: Philadelphia's offense will still run through Saquon Barkley, but the Eagles need to be smart about preserving him over a 17-game season. Bigsby flashed during spring work, and his physical running style gives the offense a different kind of backup option if he earns trust in pass protection, short-yardage situations, and special teams. His camp role could shift quickly if the Eagles decide he is reliable enough to handle a regular workload rather than occasional snaps. Bigsby is being drafted as RB54 in Round 14.
Tank Bigsby player page
Wahington Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt said he hopes to show the team that he can be a three-down back in the NFL. He understands that he will have to earn the starting running back job during training camp.
Footballguys view: Croskey-Merritt needs to prove that he can be an asset on passing downs, and a good one, to take snaps away from accomplished third down back Rachaad White. He'll also need to show a rugged edge to get short yardage work over sixth round pick Kaytron Allen after the coaching staff preferred Chris Rodriguez to Croskey-Merritt by the end of the season. He's still one of the cheapest backs projected to lead his backfield in touches, and many of the best picks at running back come from the group that matches that description.
Dallas Cowboys RBs Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah and Malik Davis will all likely be candidates for the No. 2 running back job during training camp and the preseason, in the opinion of DallasCowboys.com's Kurt Daniels.
Footballguys view: This looks like a messy committee if Javonte Williams goes down. Blue's speed give him the best chance to get manufactured touches even when Williams is healthy, but Davis or Mafah would be a more consistent between the tackles early down runner, and Mafah is the easy choice as the short yardage back if Williams goes down. There's also a question of whether the Cowboys will carry all four backs. If not, someone will likely snap up whoever they try to stash on the practice squad.
Indianapolis Colts RB DJ Giddens has a better understanding of the offensive system and showed growth during offseason workouts, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: Giddens can currently be seen as the no.2 RB for the Colts behind Jonathan Taylor. With Taylor being incredibly durable, Giddens was only able to get 26 carries last year as a rookie. Giddens has the physical skill to compete at the pro level, and he'll have to beat out Seth McGowan in training camp for the backup job.
Free-agent RB Nick Chubb (Texans) is not ruling out the possibility of signing with the Cleveland Browns.
Footballguys view: Chubb played last year with the Texans, and he turned in a decent season with 122 carries, 506 yards rushing, and three rushing touchdowns in 15 games. He's no longer the stud runner he used to be, but a team looking for veteran depth should be considering Chubb. The Browns have Quinshon Judkins as their starter, but perhaps reuniting with Chubb would be something they consider.

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor is hoping for a contract extension, but the Colts have shown 'little initiative' when it comes to contract discussions, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Taylor has expressed his interest in being a "Colt for life" but so far there seems to be no signs of an extension. Reporters around the team suggest there is real debate as to whether or not Taylor will be with the team past the 2026 season.

Green Bay Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd is more than just a complementary back to RB Josh Jacobs, according to running backs coach Ben Sirmans. 'Not only does he give you something alongside with Josh, I mean he can do things that the other guys can't, in terms of his speed and quickness,' Sirmans said.
Footballguys view: Lloyd has talent, but injuries have robbed him of the chance to showcase his skill much at the pro level. This offseason, Lloyd has stayed healthy for the first time in the NFL. Not only can Lloyd be a quality backup, he could be a decent starter if he can stay healthy. With offseason legal trouble, Jacobs might miss time if the NFL decides to suspend him. That means Lloyd is a player all Fantasy GMs should monitor in training camp and the preseason.
Free-agent RB Deon Jackson (Lions) and LB Micah Baskerville (Bears) have had workouts with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a source on Monday, June 22.
Link to storyDeon Jackson player page
Buffalo Bills RB Desmond Reid (undisclosed) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list Monday, June 22.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving (shoulder) should be fine for the regular season and would be available to play if the team had a game in a few weeks, according to general manager Jason Licht.
Footballguys view: Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles raised some concern about Irving's fitness when he said he thought the running back would be ready to return from a shoulder injury in the "summer or fall." Still, developments in June have painted a better picture. Irving practiced before the end of the offseason program, and Licht's comments add to the more positive outlook. Irving missed seven games in 2025. He'll likely share with free agent pickup Kenneth Gainwell, but a healthy Irving has been very effective for fantasy investors.
Tennessee Titans RB Tony Pollard could be part of 'a more balanced committee' this season, according to Nick Arvin of SI.com.
Footballguys view: Pollard led Tennessee in scrimmage yards last season with 1,288 total yards, including 1,082 rushing and 206 receiving. While Pollard is expected to remain the lead back, Arvin anticipates a more balanced committee approach with the additions of fifth-round pick Nicholas Singleton and the continued presence of Tyjae Spears. That explains Pollard's RB30 ADP and sixth-round price tag. But it's worth noting here that Daboll's Giants offense ranked second in the NFL in rushing attempts last season. They ranked fifth in the league in rushing yards per game (129.1). There could be enough to go around.
Tony Pollard player page
Washington Commanders RBs Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jeremy McNichols are the top two returning backs for the team. They added RBs Jerome Ford and Rachaad White in offseason transactions, while also adding RB Kaytron Allen in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The team is also intrigued by undrafted rookie RB Robert Henry Jr. The team hasn't had a No. 1 running back in a while, and it appears the team will enter the season with a running back by committee situation.
Footballguys view: While Washington's backfield is likely to be split between Croskey-Merritt and White, that's not chiseled in stone. Somebody could earn a more prominent role. If White is that player, it wouldn't be the first time. He operated as a feature for the Buccaneers in 2023 and delivered his best season as a pro, rushing for 990 yards and six touchdowns on 272 carries, with 64 catches for 549 receiving yards and three more scores en route to an RB4 finish. Still, current ADP has Croskey-Merritt (RB40) and White (RB39) priced as if it will be an even split.
Jeremy McNichols player page
Atlanta Falcons RB Brian Robinson Jr. appears to be the heir apparent to serve as the primary backup to starter RB Bijan Robinson. He was a started in Washington for three seasons, but limited to just 92 carries with the San Francisco 49ers in 2025, so he is fresh. He is expected to vie for the job to replace RB Tyler Allgeier (Cardinals). 'Brian is a really, really talented football player who matches exceptionally with what we want to do,' head coach Kevin Stefanski said. 'We want to have an attack that is not just a one-person attack. I think Brian gives us that.'
Footballguys view: Bijan Robinson is the lead back, and he's one of the best in the league. Fantasy GMs are taking Bijan Robinson with one of the first two or three picks in every draft. Brian Robinson is a valued backup, but he's seen more as an RB5 or handcuff for the Bijan Robinson Fantasy GM. If Bijan Robinson needs to miss time, Brian Robinson has RB1 upside.
Denver Broncos RB Jonah Coleman has shown consistency in the passing game and pass protection, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, and Legwold believes Coleman 'belongs in the rotation' of running backs.
Footballguys view: Coleman is the no.3 back on the Broncos depth chart for now. JK Dobbins is the starter, but Denver is ready this year if/when he gets hurt. If Dobbins misses time due to injury again, the Broncos can turn to Coleman as a co-starter in the backfield with RJ Harvey. While Harvey can improve from his rookie season as a runner, he's mainly a receiving weapon with a nose for the end zone. This makes Coleman a must-stash in deep-bench leagues, or Fantasy GMs should at least keep him on the waiver wire speed dial.
Cleveland Browns RB Quinshon Judkins appears to have regained his confidence and explosiveness on the field after suffering his serious injury during the 2025 season, according to head coach Todd Monken.
Footballguys view: Judkins is a strong runner, and he does not shy away from contact. He was injured in Week 16 and has been recovering from a fractured fibula and a broken ankle. Fantasy GMs need to monitor his health in training camp, but we like him as a volume-based RB2 in 2026.
Denver Broncos RB RJ Harvey appears to have fully recovered from the torn labrum in his shoulder, according to head coach Sean Payton.
Footballguys view: Harvey is a key cog for the Broncos' offense. He's the "1A" for the Broncos alongside JK Dobbins in the backfield. While Dobbins gets work on the ground, Harvey is proven as a red-zone threat (12 touchdowns as a rookie in 2025) and receiving back. From a fantasy perspective, Harvey is an RB3/flex option with his current role.
Arizona Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love will likely be the starting running back when the 2026 season begins, in the opinion of AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Love was the no.3 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft coming out of Notre Dame, and he's got Jahmyr Gibbs-like ability in the NFL. He's currently in a cramped backfield, but Tyler Allgeier should be the no.2 back for the Cardinals, and James Conner might be on another team by the trade deadline. Love is a high-end RB2 with clear upside.
Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton said he is excited to play in offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel's system. 'I like it a lot,' Hampton said. 'Really all the running backs like it a lot. Getting in the groove of it, just figuring it out, figuring out the details of it. I feel like it's gonna be super good for us.'
Footballguys view: McDaniel compared Hampton to HOF Broncos RB Terrell Davis, which is obviously high praise. Like Davis, Hampton has intent and power as a runner - especially when at full speed. Hampton's rookie season was cut short due to injury, but the ability is there for him to be one of the best in the league. Fantasy GMs are over-the-moon already about Hampton, so you'll have to pay up to secure him on your fantasy team. While he might end up being an RB2 with upside this year, Hampton is getting drafted as a low-end RB1.
Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor led the league with 323 carries and was one of 11 running backs to play in all 17 games last season. Head coach Shane Steichen said the team is aware of it and plan to use RBs Seth McGowan and DJ Giddens to supplement Taylor. 'I think he led the league last year in carries, but talking to him after the season, he said he felt good,' Steichen said. 'But yeah, obviously he's a hell of a player. It's hard to take him off the field when he's running so good, but getting Seth (McGowan) in the fold and DJ (Giddens) and see how those guys come along in training camp, and we'll go from there.'
Footballguys view: He's a top-tier running back, and there's no doubt Taylor will continue as an RB1. That's what makes him one of the first few backs off the board in fantasy drafts. Even though guys like Giddens and McGowan might pick up a bit more work if/when Taylor needs a breather, we don't see it greatly impacting his workload - or his fantasy value.
Jonathan Taylor player page
Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs has incorporated mixed-martial arts into his training routine. 'It helps with body control,' Gibbs said. 'Your base and all that and faster hands,' Gibbs told ESPN. 'I would say with blocking, I get my hands up before they hit me.'
Footballguys view: Many players in the NFL turn to unconventional training during their pro career. Gibbs is just trying to keep his game at the highest level, and this sort of training can help do that. He's a no-brainer top-2 pick in every fantasy league, and Gibbs can be relied on as a set-it-and-forget-it starter.
Jahmyr Gibbs player page
New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo (ankle) said he will not change his play style even though he suffered a serious ankle injury during the 2025 season.
Footballguys view: Skattebo is a powerful runner who thrives on contact. Even after his ankle injury as a rookie, Skattebo is going to continue as a battering ram for the Giants offense. He should be the lead back with Tyrone Tracy working to spell him from time to time.
Washington Commanders RB Rachaad White impressed the team's coaching staff during the offseason program, according to the Athletic's Ben Standig.
Footballguys view: White signed with the Commanders in March to give them veteran depth at the position. Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt is in line for a larger role, but White could provide the team with pass-catching ability out of the backfield. The Commanders also drafted Penn State RB Kaytron Allen in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but he's firmly behind Croskey-Merritt and White on the depth chart.
Free agent RB Ian Wheeler (Saints) signed with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, June 18. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Link to storyAtlanta Falcons RB Tyler Goodson has been 'impressive' while working as the No. 3 running back during minicamp, according to Will McFadden of AtlantaFalcons.com.
Footballguys view: The Falcons signed Goodson in late March as a depth piece in the backfield. They have Bijan Robinson as their starter, and he's a no-brainer RB1 for Fantasy GMs. Behind him is Brian Robinson, and the veteran brings a ton of power to the room. Goodson is looking for scraps behind those two, but it sounds like he'll be reliable if injuries strike the depth chart in front of him.
Washington Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt (undisclosed) participated in practice Tuesday, June 16, after missing the voluntary workouts because of an undisclosed reason, according to ESPN.com's John Keim.
Footballguys view: It's a crowded running backs room in Washington, and head coach Dan Quinn said Croskey-Merritt has to show what he can do in pass protection, among other areas, this summer. Getting back on the field will keep him in the competition with free-agent additions Rachaad White and Jerome Ford, fellow holdover Jeremy McNichols, and rookie Kaytron Allen. This will be a backfield to watch in August.
