Colts | Jonathan Taylor wants to stay with IND Wed Jun 10, 03:37 PM
Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor said he wants to spend his entire career with the Colts. He is entering the final year of his current contract.
Footballguys view: Most running backs would probably want to spend their career running behind the Colts' line. Going into his age-27 season, Taylor will have a chance to raise his asking price with another strong season. He looked like the best running back in the NFL back in 2021. Since then, injuries and inconsistent play from his team have made his production volatile. But he looked like his old self last year, pushing him back into Round 1 of fantasy drafts.

Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce may miss the first few weeks of the 2026 season, according to coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: Reports about Pierce's ankle surgery came out shortly after he signed his $114 million extension. It's hard to imagine that the Colts would have offered him that without knowledge of the injury, but it was downplayed early on. This was the first report we've heard about a return timeline, and it's concerning. In Pierce's absence, Tyler Warren would likely be the primary target, with Josh Downs serving in a complementary role. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is next on the depth chart in a shockingly thin receiver room. If Pierce has to miss any time, the lack of a vertical threat could cause Jonathan Taylor to see more stacked fronts. We'll get more information during training camp, but Pierce should be knocked down quite a bit in rankings from this news.
Indianapolis Colts S Reuben Lowery III retired on Tuesday, June 9, according to a source.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen says the competition for the backup job between QBs Anthony Richardson Sr. and Riley Leonard remains 'back and forth right now.'
Footballguys view: The Colts have a full quarterback room for the foreseeable future after Richardson's time spent on the trade block failed to land any suitors during the 2026 NFL Draft. So, he'll continue to battle Leonard for the spot behind Daniel Jones, who is working back from his Achilles rehab. SI.com believes that Leonard is viewed as the better fit for this version of Steichen's offense with Jones at the helm, and the subsequent backup of the future, whereas Richardson remains the unrefined, oft-injured project that could be fun to fix.

Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce (ankle) and DL DeForest Buckner (neck) will not participate in OTAs, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: Pierce underwent offseason surgery on a lingering ankle injury, but should be back on the field for training camp. Pierce, who's led the NFL in yards per catch the last two seasons, has become a well-rounded wideout, able to attack different levels of the field in a variety of ways. With Michael Pittman Jr. traded to the Steelers, Pierce is set to serve as the team's top downfield weapon. He's being drafted as WR33. Like Pierce, Buckner is focused on being ready for training camp.
Indianapolis Colts DT DeForest Buckner (neck) said he hopes to be able to participate when training camp begins and wants to be ready for the start of the 2026 regular season.
Footballguys view: Buckner missed 12 games in the last two seasons due to a neck injury that had to be surgically repaired. He faces a strenuous rehab to regain strength and return to the field for his 12th NFL season. Buckner acknowledges needing to adjust his game to adapt to the physical changes from the injury. His status bears watching as he'll likely come at a discount due to this issue.

Indianapolis Colts TE Tyler Warren said he has been working on being more explosive out of routes this offseason. 'Getting in the break is one thing, but being able to accelerate out of it and still you create the space, but being able to hold that space if you are running across the field ... I think it's big,' Warren said.
Footballguys view: Warren is a dangerous player with the ball in his hands. His development is one to be watched and admired as he could be the next great tight end in this league. Fantasy GMs are expecting Warren to produce as a top-5 tight end in 2026.
Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce (ankle) is making progress in his recovery from ankle surgery and is still on track to be ready for training camp, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: During GM Chris Ballard's pre-draft press conference, he mentioned that Pierce underwent offseason surgery on a lingering ankle injury, but added he should be back on the field for training camp. Steichen confirmed that "as of right now," that's still the case.
Indianapolis Colts G Jalen Farmer and LB Bryce Boettcher signed their rookie contracts with the team on Tuesday, June 2.

Link to storyIndianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor did not participate in the voluntary workout Monday, June 1.
Footballguys view: While nobody seems concerned about this absence, head coach Shane Steichen acknowledged after practice that it's a fair question to debate whether the Colts need to scale back the NFL-leading 323 carries for Taylor from last season. If that's going to happen, and the Colts don't make any other running back moves, those reserve roles will go to some youth on the roster. But both former draft picks D.J. Giddens and Seth McGowan flashed a bit on Monday in Taylor's absence.

Indianapolis Colts OT Jalen Travis (back) did not participate in the voluntary workout Monday, June 1, and has missed both of the workouts open to the media this offseason.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones (Achilles) is participating in seven-on-seven drills during the voluntary workout Monday, June 1.
Footballguys view: Remember, Jones was limited to individual drills last week, so this is real progress. After practice, Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that Jones would continue to participate in the 7-on-7 periods during OTAs and move on to full-team drills when training camp opens. The QB is only 175 days removed from injuring his Achilles in Week 14 last season. Last week, Jones said he "absolutely" plans on being available for Week 1, but even with the progress he's made, there are still hurdles to navigate. We'll be watching for more.

Free-agent QB Easton Stick (Falcons) signed with the Indianapolis Colts Monday, June 1. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived QB Seth Henigan.

Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones participated in OTAs in some capacity on Tuesday, May 2. He's closing in on six months post right Achilles surgery.
Footballguys view: Acording to ESPN.com's Stephen Holder, this reflects what the Colts predicted in recent weeks: That Jones would take some snaps in individual drills this offseason. He's not expected to participate in full team periods, but he's certainly on schedule. Holder added that there's no PUP list for training camp expected at this point. We'll continue to watch for more while reminding you that Jones' QB26 Average Draft Position suggests the market isn't as sold on a timely return as the Colts are. He's a value now, but continued positive news will drive the price up.

Link to storyIndianapolis Colts QBs Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson are set to battle for the primary backup job to starter QB Daniel Jones, while QB Seth Henigan is also on the roster. Offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said it's 'still early' and 'too soon' to determine a frontrunner for the QB2 job.
Footballguys view: With Daniel Jones coming off a season-ending injury, the next man in line is important for the Colts. Leonard, a 2025 sixth-round pick, started Week 18 last year after the Colts were eliminated from postseason contention. Richardson's history is well documented. The No. 4 overall pick entered the NFL in 2023 with a unique skillset but little college experience. He's started just 15 games in three seasons -- 11 coming in 2024. With Jones still in rehab, Leonard and Richardson will get plenty of reps to prove worthy of the backup gig.

Link to storyIndianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters, 'We'll see how it goes' with Anthony Richardson potentially competing for the backup quarterback job.
Footballguys view: Things change quickly around here. It wasn't that long ago that Richardson was seen as a potential franchise quarterback, and now he's in a battle for the backup job behind Daniel Jones. Riley Leonard is likely to be the no.2 quarterback for the Colts, and he certainly would be if/when the Colts trade Richardson.

According to ESPN.com's Stephen, QB Anthony Richardson reported to Indianapolis' voluntary offseason program on Monday after staying away for the past two weeks.
Footballguys view: The Colts have been trying to trade 2023 No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson throughout the offseason. While the Colts are apparently not any closer to trading Richardson, they also have not given any indication that he will be released. So, at least for now, Richardson is back with Indianapolis. The Colts declined to pick up Richardson's fifth-year option by last week's deadline, as was widely expected.

In a recent interview with the Rich Eisen Show, Colts GM Chris Ballard noted that there was one factor about Jones' game he found surprising. "I probably underestimated his accuracy coming in the door," Ballard said. "This dude is accurate, man. And when he's in rhythm and really in a groove, he is excellent.
Footballguys view: Jones performed well in his first season with the Colts before suffering a torn Achilles late in December -- so well that the club rewarded him with a two-year, $88 million deal despite the injury. He completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions before he was hurt. But Jones is, by all accounts, progressing well through his rehab and could be available to begin the regular season in September. With Jones' new contract, the Colts have a clear belief in the QB to pick up where he left off whenever he's healthy.

Link to storyIndianapolis Colts second-round pick LB C.J. Allen is expected to be a centerpiece of the linebacker corps right away. 'Great person. All about football. Ran 4.4. Tough,' according to a team source.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Allen is a very talented rookie who can play sideline-to-sideline football. He could've been a first-round pick, but the Colts were able to add Allen at no.53 overall.
