Panthers | Tommy Tremble agrees to deal    Thu Jul 22, 05:38 PM

Carolina Panthers third-round draft choice TE Tommy Tremble agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Panthers Thursday, July 22. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Tremble is known more for his blocking, but could develop as a receiver in time. The Panthers haven't used their tight ends in the passing game enough to make Tremble intriguing in dynasty leagues, but that could always change if he's good enough to merit the opportunity.

Panthers | Dan Arnold ready to break out    Tue Jul 6, 10:30 AM

Carolina Panthers TE Dan Arnold said he's ready to take on a bigger role in the Panthers' offense. 'Having the opportunity to start becoming a good player and a guy who can make a difference on this team, I'm most excited for that,' Arnold said. 'I feel like I've done my time; I'm ready to go out and make plays consistently.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs looking for deep sleeper tight ends are looking at Arnold based on how he's flashed earlier in his pro career and based off the opportunity he now has with the Panthers. In 2020 with the Cardinals, Arnold had 31 receptions on 45 targets for 438 yards and four touchdowns. Arnold will compete with Ian Thomas to be the lead tight end for the Panthers. In most leagues, Arnold is not getting drafted so keep him on your waiver wire speed dial as a TE3 with upside if he hits for his new team.

Panthers | Brady Christiansen signs deal    Thu Jun 24, 04:48 PM

Carolina Panthers third-round draft choice OT Brady Christensen signed a four-year contract with the Panthers Thursday, June 24. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Christensen could be the team's left tackle sooner than later. He has the tools to be a quality pass-blocker and he's a better prospect than the typical third round tackle because of the strong depth at the position in this year's draft class.

Panthers | Terrace Marshall signs rookie deal    Thu Jun 17, 11:35 AM

Carolina Panthers second-round pick WR Terrace Marshall signed his rookie, four-year contract Thursday, June 17. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey ready to go    Wed Jun 9, 10:59 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey said he is 'back to 100 percent' after dealing with a variety of injuries last season. 'I'm healthy and ready to roll,' McCaffrey said.

Footballguys view: Great news for the Panthers and for Fantasy GMs here. McCaffrey is arguably the best running back in the game, and he's still getting drafted near no.1 overall in most every fantasy draft even though he missed 13 games last year due to injury. With new QB Sam Darnold, the Panthers offense should continue to flow through the superstar running back.

Panthers | Ian Thomas making an impression    Wed Jun 2, 02:11 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Ian Thomas has enjoyed a 'tremendous offseason,' according to head coach Matt Rhule.

Footballguys view: That's a good sign for Thomas, but he's always had the natural talent but has yet to put it all together as a pro. Now, the Panthers have Dan Arnold as their top tight end and Thomas is the no.2 at the position. Last year, the Panthers only had 27 receptions (Thomas had 20 of those) at the tight end position. We'll see if Rhule does a better job of emphasizing the position in 2021.

Panthers | Tommy Stevens working with TEs    Tue May 25, 01:19 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Tommy Stevens remains listed as a quarterback but has worked with the tight end group throughout the offseason, according to ESPN.com's David Newton. Per Newton, Stevens was signed with the 'thinking he was a Taysom Hill type.'

Footballguys view: Stevens was drafted by the Saints in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft. He didn't make the 53-man roster but he signed with the practice squad. After getting released in November 2020, the Panthers picked him up. The Saints already tried him out at tight end, so playing that position is nothing new to the former Penn State/Mississippi State quarterback.

Panthers | Sam Darnold building rapport with star RB    Mon May 24, 11:35 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold has spent significant time this offseason working out with RB Christian McCaffrey, who was quick to sing Darnold's praises in a recent interview with Panthers.com Darin Gantt.'I've gotten to know him really well in the last few months. Just getting together throwing with him and hanging out off the field. He's an incredible talent and incredible teammate already, so I'm super excited for him. ... I think he'll fit in great. Already fits in great. ... He's very laid back, but he's definitely a leader too. And he knows when to put his foot down when he needs to and be a leader when he needs to. I think that's something that makes all quarterbacks great,' McCaffrey said.

Footballguys view: If Darnold wants to play better, then building chemistry with McCaffrey is the way to do just that. A healthy McCaffrey makes a world of difference for the Panthers offense. The superstar running back should become a favorite target of Darnold and catching 85-100 passes in 2021 should be in the plan.

Panthers | Carolina signs 5 draft picks    Thu May 13, 12:41 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard, CB Keith Taylor Jr., OL Deonte Brown, WR Shi Smith and LS Thomas Fletcher on Thursday, May 13, signed their four-year rookie contracts.

Footballguys view: Hubbard is a player we are excited about, and he'll work to be the primary backup to Christian McCaffrey in 2021. The rookie running back from Oklahoma State knows how to stick his foot in the ground and go! He's a hard-charging running back and there's little wasted motion (or nuance) to what Hubbard does. If he wins the no.2 job, then Hubbard will be a high-value handcuff for Fantasy GMs. Smith is a speedy receiver who can make crazy catches. We'll monitor him in deep dynasty formats.

Undrafted free-agent RB Spencer Brown (Alabama-Birmingham) and LB Paddy Fisher (Northwestern) signed with the Carolina Panthers Monday, May 10. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Brown is a smooth running back who makes crisp cuts to find rushing lanes. He's stout as a runner and has the leg drive to run through arm tackles. He wasn't used as much as a receiver as he could have been but three-down ability is there. Brown is not overly fast, but we'll still monitor him in super deep dynasty formats.

Panthers | Kevin Thomson to try out    Sun May 9, 12:04 PM

Undrafted free-agent QB Kevin Thomson (Sacramento State) is scheduled to participate in the Carolina Panthers rookie minicamp next week on a tryout basis, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Thomson could have stayed in college with Washington for what would have been his eighth season of eligibility. That is not a typo. Originally starting his college career at UNLV in 2014, Thomson was hurt and transferred to Sacramento State where he became an FCS All-American. He then transferred to Washington where he competed for playing time but another injury knocked him out of the final four games of the year. For those keeping score at home, that's six seasons, five coaching staffs and three universities. Thomson is a long-shot, dual-threat quarterback but he certainly did not give up on his dream of playing in the NFL.

Panthers | Chuba Hubbard could land backup gig    Sat May 8, 11:07 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard 'is a good bet to displace' RB Rodney Smith and Reggie Bonnafon RB as the primary backup to RB Christian McCaffrey in 2021, according to Vinnie Iyer of SportingNews.com.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. The Panthers don't have much behind McCaffrey with Mike Davis (Falcons) moving on in free agency. Hubbard is a hard-charging running back who wastes little motion with the ball. He did have a problem with fumbling in college, so that will have to be cleaned up before he's trusted as the no.2 back on the depth chart. Hubbard could have handcuff value if he wins that spot in training camp.

Panthers | Dan Morgan hired as assistant GM    Sat May 8, 12:46 PM

Buffalo Bills team executive Dan Morgan on Saturday, May 8, was hired as the Carolina Panthers' assistant general manager.

Footballguys view: Morgan is back with the Panthers, this time in the front office. A first-round pick in the 2001 NFL draft, Morgan played with the Panthers through the 2007 season. After retiring, Morgan spent almost seven years as the Director of Pro Personnel for the Seahawks. In Seattle, he worked with new Panthers GM Scott Fitterer. Morgan has spent the last three years with the Buffalo Bills.

Panthers | Terrace Marshall became priority pick    Sat May 8, 12:25 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Terrace Marshall was moved up the team's draft board and selected with the 59th-overall pick in the second round April 30 after the Panthers reportedly received a tip that the rival New Orleans Saints were going to select Marshall with the 60th-overall selection.

Footballguys view: It would not have been a surprise to see Marshall go in the first round, so the Panthers get a value pick here with the LSU wide receiver. Marshall has a nice size/speed combination and can run by defenders on the outside. His frame gives him a large target for his quarterback and he knows how to use it to box out cornerbacks tasked with covering him. The Panthers have a strong group of wide receivers and it will be interesting to see how they mix in Marshall as a rookie.

Panthers | Chuba Hubbard agrees on rookie deal    Thu May 6, 12:55 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard has agreed to terms on his four-year contract with the team, the Panthers announced Thursday, May. 6. The full terms of the deal were not available.

Footballguys view: Hubbard is an exciting rookie running back who will work to earn a spot as perhaps the primary backup to Christian McCaffrey in 2021. At Oklahoma State, Hubbard showed off a hard-charging style and can stick his foot in the ground to change direction in a hurry. He's not a pile-pusher, but Hubbard is not afraid to run between the tackles. Hubbard needs to work on ball security if he wants to earn the trust of the Panthers coaching staff. Monitor his progress in dynasty formats and consider him a handcuff to McCaffrey is he wins the no.2 job.

Panthers | D.J. Moore to wait for deal    Thu May 6, 12:19 PM

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore had his fifth-year contract option picked up in April, but a long-term deal with the team isn't expected this offseason, according to Alaina Getzenberg of the Charlotte Observer.

Footballguys view: Moore is scheduled to make around $11 million this year. He's gone back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and is looking to make it three in a row this season. Moore should be a favorite target of QB Sam Darnold and is a WR2 with upside for Fantasy GMs in 2021.

Panthers | Chuba Hubbard lands in Carolina    Sat May 1, 01:18 PM

Oklahoma State RB Chuba Hubbard on Saturday, May 1, was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round (126th overall pick) of the NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Hubbard was an exciting college football running back. He's a hard-charging back who can stick his foot in the ground and bounce. Hubbard can make defenders look silly in the open field with his moves and is creative when stacking moves. He's struggled with fumbles (7) over the last two years and was banged up in 2020. Hubbard will work to establish himself as a trusted reserve behind Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers | Tommy Tremble finds home in Carolina    Fri Apr 30, 10:41 PM

Notre Dame TE Tommy Tremble was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 83rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Tremble is a versatile player who can play H-back, tight end or even line up in the backfield as a fullback. He's a standout player because of his blocking ability and his speed. We'll see him try to work his way up the depth chart with the Panthers.
