Giants | Daniel Jones struggles on Day 3 of camp    Fri Jul 30, 02:15 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones' performance on Day 3 of training camp was 'brutal,' according to NJ.com's Zack Rosenblatt. Jones struggled to show any chemistry with this top receivers, especially WR Kenny Golladay. While Rosenblatt acknowledged it is too early in camp to be negative, he wrote, 'There wasn't really anything positive to take away from Jones' performance.'

Footballguys view: It's Day 3 of camp, not the third preseason game of the year. Jones is in a make-or-break year, and it would be nice to hear better things coming out of Giants camp. It sounds like he's struggling mightily but has a chance to turn things around (as much as he can) before the start of the regular season.

Giants | Kelvin Benjamin let go    Wed Jul 28, 01:05 PM

New York Giants TE Kelvin Benjamin was released Wednesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Well, that didn't take long. Benjamin signed earlier this year to be a tight end option for the Giants. Perhaps some other team takes a chance on him but the chances of sticking on a roster is slim.

Giants | Saquon Barkley placed on PUP list    Thu Jul 22, 04:53 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 22.

Footballguys view: This was expected and just reminds us that Barkley is coming back from more than a simple ACL tear, as he suffered meniscus and MCL damage too. He might not be full speed for Week 1, but he still shouldn't fall out of the first round of fantasy drafts.

Giants | Kadarius Toney on COVID list    Thu Jul 22, 04:23 PM

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, July 22.

Footballguys view: Toney's rookie year misadventures continue. He missed most of OTAs and needs every practice snap possible to have a chance to make an impact this year. Sterling Shepard continues to look like a great value in PPR leagues.

Giants | Mike Weber, Jordyn Peters signed    Wed Jul 21, 07:41 PM

Free-agent RB Mike Weber (Packers) and S Jordyn Peters (Jets) signed with the New York Giants Wednesday, July 21. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Weber could push for a roster spot as the third running back behind Saquon Barkley and Devontae Booker with Corey Clement and sixth round pick Gary Brightwell also in the mix. Weber was a seventh round pick of the Cowboys in 2019 and has a downhill running style with nimble footwork.

Giants | NYG worked out three    Wed Jul 21, 05:38 PM

Free-agent RB Mike Weber (Packers), RB Tyler Ervin (Packers) and S Jordyn Peters (Jets) recently worked out for the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: The Giants might be updating their emergency running back list. We'll see if Saquon Barkley can avoid the PUP list to start camp. While it wouldn't preclude him from being ready for Week 1, it might necessitate the Giants signing another back as a camp body.

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) said he is not sure if he will be ready for the start of the regular season. 'I don't know. We'll see,' Barkley said. 'Taking it day by day. Just listening to my body. Whenever I'm able to get out there, just make sure I'm 110 percent.'

Giants | Coach happy with Daniel Jones' progress    Wed Jul 14, 06:48 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones had shown solid growth with his play and leadership over the last year, according to head coach Joe Judge.

Footballguys view: Jones was under pressure early and often last year. Instead of taking the next step in his second season (2020) after flashing as a rookie (2019), Jones was under duress too much to do much of anything. This year, hopefully with better protection, Jones is in a make-or-break year. They improved the weapons around him and WR Kenny Golladay should help a lot. Having a healthy RB Saquon Barkley should help tremendously as well.

Giants | Daniel Jones felt the heat last season    Mon Jul 12, 10:24 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones was pressured on 30.3 percent of his drop-backs in 2020 - the highest percentage for any quarterback with at least 350 pass attempts - per Pro Football Reference.

Footballguys view: Jones didn't have much time to do anything last year with the Giants. He's in a make-or-break year this season and hopefully has better protection than he did in 2020. The return of a healthy RB Saquon Barkley and the addition of star WR Kenny Golladay should help.

Giants | John Ross banged up?    Fri Jul 9, 10:40 PM

New York Giants WR John Ross (undisclosed) had 'clearly been dealing with something' during June minicamp, according to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com.

Footballguys view: Ross has a ton of speed, but the former top-10 pick has mostly disappointed as a pro due to injury and inconsistency. Now, getting a fresh start with the Giants, Ross needs to stay healthy if he wants to impress and make the 53-man roster. If he does make the team, Ross is pretty much a non-factor for Fantasy GMs.

Giants | Rookie WR Toney To Be Brought Along Slowly    Fri Jul 9, 02:41 PM

Dan Duggan, from The Athletic, reports New York Giants rookie WR Kadarius Toney will be brought along slowly in 2021.

Footballguys view: Toney is fast...like, super fast, and the team will be wise to use that speed in a number of ways. Earlier reports indicated the team is planning on using the rookie first-round pick all over the formation. That's good from a football standpoint, but from a fantasy perspective it could run hot and cold (mostly cold). Kenny Golladay is the primary WR and main fantasy target if you're looking at Giants receivers. We'll see how Toney works along slowly into the mix behind/with guys like Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton.

Giants | Saquon Barkley not talking timetable    Thu Jul 8, 04:26 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) said he is taking his recovery on a day-by-day basis and does not have a timetable for his return.

Footballguys view: Barkley is working his way back from yet another knee injury, but Fantasy GMs don't seem to be hesitant to draft him. We all know he's a superstar when healthy and one of the best backs in the game, and this is a make-or-break season for Barkley. He's got a current ADP of RB5 (1.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Giants | Evan Engram lacked efficiency    Sat Jul 3, 10:55 PM

New York Giants TE Evan Engram's 5.9 yards per target in 2020 was fourth worst in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Engram has incredible talent, and that's why he was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft, He's never played up to his potential in the pros due to injuries and inefficiency. Engram has been a low-end TE2 (TE19, TE18) over the last two seasons. We'll see if better play from QB Daniel Jones gets Engram back on track after a rookie season where he finished as the no.5 tight end in non-PPR leagues.

Giants | Sterling Shepard popular with QB    Sat Jul 3, 10:25 PM

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard has averaged 8.1 targets per game from QB Daniel Jones over the past two seasons.

Footballguys view: Shepard is not a no.1 wide receiver, even though the Giants have miscast him as such in years past. With the addition of Kenny Golladay, we'll see Shepard work against softer coverage as their no.2 receiver. The talent and upside is there with Shepard but he needs to stay healthy in order to play up to his potential. He's a deep flex WR5/WR6 for Fantasy GMs, just like he has been over the last couple of seasons.

Giants | Daniel Jones working out with teammates    Sat Jul 3, 05:05 PM

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has worked out with RB Saquon Barkley, WR Kenny Golladay, WR Sterling Shepard, WR Darius Slayton and WR David Sills leading up to training camp.

Footballguys view: Jones is in a make-or-break season in 2021. He's got the talent around him to play much better and more efficiently this season. The Giants added more weapons on offense and having a healthy Barkley will greatly improve the chances that Jones improves his play. He was sacked often in 2020 and that's why his decision-making skill seemed to take a step back from his rookie season. We'll see if better protection, better weapons and a stronger rushing attack propel Jones to a bounce-back season.

Giants | Kyle Rudolph expects to be ready    Thu Jul 1, 01:08 PM

New York Giants Kyle Rudolph (foot) says he's feels fortunate that an examination by his new team revealed a previous undiagnosed foot injury that led to surgery in March, giving him ample time to recover for the 2021 season. 'As far as football goes, I was extremely fortunate that the Giants organization and everyone involved (caught it), and how they were able to handle my situation, that I won't miss any football,' Rudolph said. 'At this point it's about taking each day and taking that opportunity to not only get myself healthy but get myself better. It's one thing to get and be healthy, it's another to be ready to go and play in an NFL game. So I'm taking that day by day.'

Footballguys view: After a decade with the Vikings, Rudolph comes over the Giants this year. Rudolph is a sound veteran with good blocking skill, strong hands and a nose for the end zone. He'll serve as a primary backup to Evan Engram, and Rudolph could get some starts here and there if (when?) Engram gets banged up.

Giants | Red flags for Kadarius Toney?    Thu Jun 24, 10:29 PM

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney had issues with a cleat at rookie minicamp, skipped OTAs because his contract wasn't signed and had to leave minicamp due to a family emergency.

Footballguys view: Let's watch training camp closely. Toney had some off-field risk and he hasn't done anything to make that go away so far in his time with the Giants. If he isn't practicing every day this summer, we should lower expectations for his involvement in the offseason, at least at the outset of the season. Sterling Shepard is probably underrated in PPR leagues right now.

Giants | Ryquell Armstead waived    Thu Jun 24, 09:28 PM

The New York Giants waived RB Ryquell Armstead Thursday, June 24.

Footballguys view: Armstead had a rough time with covid last year and lost his shot to play a role in a wide open Jaguars backfield. He might have trouble catching on elsewhere until an injury strikes a backfield in training camp.

Giants | RB Barkley Back Running Drills    Wed Jun 23, 01:34 PM

Fox Sports recently tweeted a video of New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley running through drills and catching passes with the caption "Nice to see Saquon officially back running drills after having his ACL surgery."

Footballguys view: We've seen videos of Barkley running earlier this offseason but those were of him running in sand. This video is of him running on the practice field. He's getting closer to a return to full strength and should be in line for the start of the regular season. If healthy, we could see Barkley besting the numbers he posted in 2019 (217 carries, 1,003 yards, six rushing touchdowns, 52 catches, 438 yards, two receiving touchdowns) when he finished the season as the no.10 fantasy running back. Fantasy GMs know what he can do, and Barkley has a current ADP of RB5 (1.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Giants | Madre Harper opened eyes this spring    Mon Jun 21, 11:18 PM

New York Giants CB Madre Harper 'came in bulked-up and in great shape, and took advantage of a mostly vacant defensive backfield during organized team activities,' according to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan. Per Raanan, Harper will be 'one to watch this year.'

Giants | Corey Clement sees time with starters    Mon Jun 14, 04:06 PM

New York Giants RB Corey Clement received some snaps with the first-team offense during offseason workouts since RB Saquon Barkley (knee) is sitting out.

Footballguys view: Clement is around no.4 on the depth chart behind Barkley, Devontae Booker and Ryquell Armstead. He has a chance to make the final roster because he can help on offense and can play on special teams.

Giants | Evan Engram dominating at practice    Fri Jun 11, 09:41 PM

New York Giants TE Evan Engram has been 'catching everything thrown in his direction' and has been the 'best offensive player on the field' during OTAs, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Engram is the type of player who can dominate at the position. He just has trouble staying healthy, and that's what can hold him back (again) in 2021. Engram should be a safety-valve target for QB Daniel Jones and can be a TE1 for Fantasy GMs...if he stays healthy. His current ADP is TE10 (8.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Giants | Kadarius Toney working with backups    Fri Jun 11, 01:40 PM

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney worked exclusively with the second-team offense during the mandatory minicamp this week, according to The Athletic's Dan Duggan.

Footballguys view: Toney missed three weeks of voluntary minicamp, a rarity for rookies, especially after they sign an injury waiver that protects their earnings before they sign their contract. Toney's tenure with the Giants has gotten off on the wrong foot, but there's plenty of time for that to change. Sterling Shepard might have surprising value if Toney's rookie year is as inauspicious as his first month with the team.

Giants | Kyle Rudolph catches passes Thursday    Thu Jun 10, 07:23 PM

New York Giants TE Kyle Rudolph (foot) caught passes while stationary during practice Thursday, June 10. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Rudolph will help the offense have a strong two tight end mode, but they are also strong enough at wide receiver to have four viable options, so Rudolph will be taking snaps from one of Darius Slayton, Kadarius Toney, or Darius Slayton.

Giants | Nate Solder not concerned about starting    Wed Jun 9, 07:58 PM

New York Giants OT Nate Solder said Wednesday, June 9, he's excited to be back with the team and isn't worrying about his possible role in 2021. 'Who cares who starts? I just want to be a part of an excellent group that's getting better every day that plays at a really high level. I've been fortunate enough to play with some great O-lines, and nobody cares who is starting and who is not starting, because we're all part of the team and we're all necessary and we're all needed,' Solder said.

Giants | Kadarius Toney back to work Wednesday    Wed Jun 9, 01:40 PM

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney (undisclosed) had a 'nice practice' Wednesday, June 9, and continued to show the 'talent that made him a first-rounder,' according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Footballguys view: Toney left practice early after slipping on the field multiple times Tuesday, June 8. The rookie is your classic ankle-breaker when it comes to running after the catch. Toney has the potential (and should have the role) to be a 'what the heck' flex option for your fantasy team this year as a rookie if you play in PPR formats. He's got the potential to be more as his pro career goes on, but right now it's best to look at him as a speed slot who can make big plays.

Giants | Kadarius Toney leaves practice early    Tue Jun 8, 01:34 PM

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney (undisclosed) left before the end of practice due to an apparent injury Tuesday, June 8. Toney slipped multiple times during practice and 'seemed to be a bit gimpy' after the final occurrence, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Toney can make players miss in the open field when he's got the rock in his hands. He's super quick and apparently the slipping led to some form of injury. There's no telling the severity, so we'll just have to wait for more information.

Giants | Saquon Barkley in attendance but idle    Tue Jun 8, 12:48 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) is at the facility and rehabbing Tuesday, June 8, during organized team activities, but he won't be participating.

Footballguys view: Barkley is coming back from the knee injury that cost him all but two games last year. Not only is he not participating in OTAs, he is not expected to be a full participant during the Giants first few practices of training camp as a precautionary measure. He's got a ton to prove this year coming back from injury, and Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board currently at RB4 (1.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.
