Broncos | Bo Nix officially lands on season-ending IR Sat Jan 24, 05:00 PM
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) was officially placed on the season-ending Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Jan. 24, ending his season.
Link to storyDenver Broncos C Luke Wattenberg (shoulder) was activated off the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Jan. 24, ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots.
Link to storySeattle Seahawks RBs Cam Akers and Velus Jones Jr. were elevated from the practice squad Saturday, Jan. 24, ahead of the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Footballguys view: That duo, along with George Holani, who was activated from injured reserve this week, will provide depth behind starter Kenneth Walker III after Zach Charbonnet suffered a season-ending knee injury in last weekend's win over the 49ers.

Miami Dolphins senior passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik has been hired as the new offensive coordinator, sources said Saturday, Jan. 24. He previously served as the offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans during the rookie season with QB C.J. Stroud.
Footballguys view: It's the second coordinator hire that new head coach Jeff Hafley has made since getting the job. They are also hiring Chris Tabor as their special teams coordinator. Slowik spent the 2025 season as the Dolphins' senior passing game coordinator. He was the Texans' offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024. Slowik worked with quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Quinn Ewers during the 2025 season, but Hafley and new General Manager Jon-Eric Sullivan have not shared their quarterback plans for 2026 yet.
New England Patriots RB D'Ernest Johnson and DE Leonard Taylor III were elevated from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Jan. 24 ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos. DT Eric Gregory (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list, too.

New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list on Saturday, Jan. 24, ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos.
Footballguys view: Hollins was one of the Patriots' top receivers during the regular season. He was third on the team in receptions (46), adding two receiving touchdowns. Hollins' blocking ability has also been key to the Patriots' success on offense this season. As the Boston Globe noted, with his 6-4 frame, Hollins has allowed the Patriots to play with advantageous personnel packages on run downs. While the Patriots haven't necessarily needed Hollins so far in the playoffs, his return is certainly welcomed news, as Drake Maye hasn't been as prolific throwing the ball this postseason.

Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll interviewed for the vacant head coaching position with the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: Daboll might get another chance to be a head coach in this cycle. He's met with the Raiders and Bills as a head coach, and other teams are looking at him as an offensive coordinator.
San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak has removed himself from consideration for NFL head coaching vacancies, sources said Saturday, Jan. 24. The Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers had requested to interview him for their openings.
Footballguys view: Kubiak wanted to stay with the 49ers. He'll continue as their OC under HC Kyle Shanahan. Even though he doesn't call plays, Kubiak is seen as a future head coach in the near future. His brother Klint Kubiak (Seahawks OC) is likely to land a head-coaching gig this offseason.
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is expected to be named as the next head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources said Saturday, Jan. 24. McCarthy posted a 49-35 regular-season record in five NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, and he won six NFC North Division titles with the Green Bay Packers between 2006 and 2018, including a Super Bowl XLV victory over the Steelers. He would replace Mike Tomlin, who stepped down after 19 seasons at the helm. McCarthy is 11-11 in the postseason, with eight division titles and 174 career victories, which is 13th all-time in NFL history.
Footballguys view: McCarthy grew up in the Pittsburgh area, and he's coached Aaron Rodgers for over a decade. Even though he only signed a one-year deal to play for Mike Tomlin, the chances are strong that with McCarthy hired that Rodgers will sign on with the Steelers for the 2026 season.
Denver Broncos defensive pass game coordinator and assistant head coach Jim Leonhard does not have an official interview set with the Green Bay Packers for its defensive coordinator job just yet. However, the hope is both sides can meet after the AFC Championship Game. Leonhard starred with the University of Wisconsin, and as a Packers player.
Footballguys view: If/when Broncos DC Vance Joseph is hired by the Cardinals to be their head coach, Leonhard is next in line to take over the defense in Denver. Even though he has strong ties to Wisconsin, Leonhard may stay to continue his coaching career under Sean Payton. Leonhard is seen as a future head coach in this league.

Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase is a potential in-person interview candidate for the head coaching position of the Pittsburgh Steelers after the NFC Championship Game. He was the first virtual interview the team conducted.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is expected to have an in-person interview for the head coaching position with the Arizona Cardinals after the NFC Championship Game, according to sources. He has already conducted a virtual interview with the organization.
Link to storyJacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile completed a second interview for the organization's head coaching vacancy.
Link to storyCleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz would likely be retained should Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase land the head-coaching position with the organization.
Footballguys view: Schwartz is one of the best defensive coordinators out there. Any head coach for the Browns would be wise to keep a resource like him around. The Browns reportedly want a young head coach, and Scheelhaase is 35-years old and one of the fastest risers in the coaching world.
Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase remains a target for the Cleveland Browns for their head-coaching vacancy, and the organization plans to meet with him in-person early in the week after the NFC Championship Game, sources said Saturday, Jan. 24. He already conducted a virtual interview with the organization last week.
Footballguys view: After joining the Rams in 2024 as an offensive assistant, Scheelhaase was elevated to passing game coordinator while working closely with Sean McVay. The Browns reportedly want a younger head coach, and at 35-years old Scheelhaase is getting a ton of interest in this cycle.
Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is a target of interest for the head-coaching position for the Las Vegas Raiders, and he could interview in-person after the AFC Championship Game. He has already had a virtual interview with the team last week.
Footballguys view: Joseph seems destined to be the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals once the Broncos are done in the postseason. The Raiders have interest in Joseph - and for good reason. However, the rumblings out there suggest they are looking for an offensive-minded head coach. If VJ could bring someone like Broncos passing game coordinator Davis Webb (who is also interviewing for this job) along as his offensive coordinator, that might be the combination the Raiders are looking for.
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is a target of the Las Vegas Raiders for their head-coaching vacancy. The team wants a younger, offensive coach, and Kubiak fits that bill. He has already completed a virtual interview with the organization, but he is expected to have an in-person interview after the NFC Championship Game.
Footballguys view: Rumblings have the Raiders interested in an offensive-minded head coach, and Kubiak is arguably the hottest head coaching candidate remaining in the postseason. Kubiak runs a West Cost/Shanahan system, and that would elevate the quarterback play while leaning on wide-zone rushing concepts. Anyone taking over the Raiders gets a stud tight end (Brock Bowers) and running back (Ashton Jeanty) to craft an offense around.
Klint Kubiak player page
Denver Broncos passing game coordinator Davis Webb is considered a strong candidate for the head-coaching vacancy of the Las Vegas Raiders, and that organization wants to schedule a second interview with him after the AFC Championship Game.
Footballguys view: Rumblings suggest the Raiders are waiting for the playoffs to play out before they make a move - and there's plenty of buzz about them wanting an offensive-minded head coach. That could either be Webb with the Broncos or Klint Kubiak with the Seahawks. Webb has done great work with Bo Nix under HC Sean Payton, and if he can get good football from Jarrett Stidham in the AFC Championship Game his stock as a future head coach will only rise.

University of Mississippi WR De'Zhaun Stribling (undisclosed) has pulled out of the East-West Shrine Bowl with an undisclosed injury.
Footballguys view: Stribling is seen as a Day 3 pick as a physically imposing possession receiver. He's bounced around to a few different colleges, ending up at Ole Miss where he finished the 2025 season with 55 catches for 811 yards and six touchdowns. It's unfortunate that Stribling pulled out of practice as he was looking to elevate his draft stock (plus, he has a history of hand/wrist injuries). Medical exams before the draft will be critical for teams interested.
Clemson University QB Cade Klubnik was 'by far the best quarterback prospect' during practice for the East-West Shrine Bowl Friday, Jan. 23, according to Alan Saunders of Steeler Now.
Footballguys view: We could see that. Our very own Cecil Lammey was pouring over the film from the early Shrine Bowl practices, and you can see some Bo Nix in Klubnik's game in terms of quick delivery and accuracy on short-to-intermediate routes. Now, he's inconsistent on his Clemson film (ask any Tigers fan), and that will need to be cleaned up for him to be an effective pro. Seen as a Day 2 pick right now, Klubnik could move up the draft boards with a good week at the Shrine. If he cleans up his inconsistency, this dual-threat quarterback could prove to be a value pick.
University of Cincinnati DT Dontay Corleone (undisclosed) exited practice for the East-West Shrine Bowl with an undisclosed injury Friday, Jan. 23.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen didn't catch a touchdown after Week 7 in 2025, and he topped 50 receiving yards just once over the final 10 games, averaging 34.2 receiving yards during that stretch.

Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue said his lack of consistency in practice played a role in his sporadic playing time this season. 'I'm trusting my coaches, and just making sure I'm working because, at this level, talent isn't everything,' Blue said. 'I have to make sure I'm putting in work so that I can continue to have those opportunities.'

Denver Broncos WR Pat Bryant (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and is not on the injury report for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Despite leaving last week's game early with a concussion, Bryant was able to clear the necessary steps to advance through concussion protocol. The rookie has been a reliable option since the midway point of the season, but expectations for the entire offense should be tempered without Bo Nix.
Denver Broncos WR Troy Franklin (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 23, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Franklin left last week's game early with this hamstring injury. Limited practices are better than no practice at all, but we probably won't get information on his availability until close to Sunday's kickoff.
Denver Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins (foot) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 23, but has been ruled out of the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Despite a return to practice this week, Dobbins isn't quite ready to return. If the Broncos beat the Patriots, Dobbins will get an extra week of rest leading up to the Super Bowl, potentially giving him time to return. In this game, expect the run game to flow through RJ Harvey.

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and has been ruled out of the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: After undergoing ankle surgery, Nix is done for the year. Even if the Broncos pull out this win, Jaret Stidham or another quarterback would start in the Super Bowl. Nix is eying a return at the start of the 2026 season. Stidham will start in his absence.
New England Patriots LB Harold Landry (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and has been ruled out of the AFC Championship game. LB Marte Mapu (hip) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. DT Joshua Farmer (hamstring), WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) and RB Terrell Jennings (head) fully participated in practice but are listed as questionable. C Garrett Bradbury (illness), CB Carlton Davis (head), LB Christian Elliss (hip), RB TreVeyon Henderson (shoulder), TE Hunter Henry (knee), OT Morgan Moses (non-injury), OT Thayer Munford (knee) and LB Robert Spillane (hand) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

New England Patriots TE Hunter Henry (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and is not on the injury report for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Henry opened up the week with back-to-back limited practices, so full participation on Friday is good to see. Henry has been very boom-or-bust this season. Last week, he had just one catch for five yards. But his multi-touchdown upside in any matchup always makes him an intriguing play.
Hunter Henry player page
New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and is not on the injury report for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Henderson has been on the injury report all week, but it hasn't stopped him from practicing in full every day. The Patriots chose to lean a bit heavier on Rhamondre Stevenson in their first playoff game. Henderson is a big-play threat every time he touches the ball, but the coaching staff might have more faith in the veteran in these big games.
New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, but is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Hollins hasn't played since Week 16. When active, he's been a reliable deep threat and a team leader. The Patriots get the benefit of playing against a Broncos team without Bo Nix, but the home-field advantage and stout defense can still pose a challenge. If Hollins can return this week, he'll be welcomed back to a receiver room that could use the extra firepower.

Seattle Seahawks LB Chazz Surratt (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, but has been ruled out of the NFC Championship game. OT Amari Kight (knee) did not practice and is listed as doubtful. FB Robbie Ouzts (neck) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. OT Joshua Jones (ankle, knee) fully participated in practice but is listed as questionable. QB Sam Darnold (oblique) and WR Cooper Kupp (non-injury) were limited during practice but are not on the injury report. TE Elijah Arroyo (knee), OT Charles Cross (foot), RB George Holani (hamstring), LB Tyrice Knight (shoulder), LB DeMarcus Lawrence (non-injury), LB Uchenna Nwosu (hamstring), WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (non-injury) and DE Leonard Williams (non-injury) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Seattle Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and is not on the injury report for the NFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Smith-Njigba's limited participation on Wednesday appears to be nothing more than preferential treatment ahead of a big conference championship game. The Year 2 receiver has broken out in a major way this year and should serve as the Seahawks' primary weapon in a home game against the Rams.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba player page
Seattle Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp (non-injury) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 23, but is not on the injury report for the NFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: All signs point to this limited participation being nothing more than some veteran rest. Kupp caught all five of his targets for 60 yards last week, stepping up when the lights are the brightest. He should work as the secondary option in the passing game behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba this week in a revenge game against the Rams.

Link to storySeattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold (oblique) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 23, but is not on the injury report for the NFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Darnold played through this injury last week, and there's no expectation he won't again this week. He'll have a tough matchup against a strong Rams' defense, but his upside always keeps him on the radar as a player to watch.
