Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck was told by the Colts that he is not in their plans for next season. QB Josh Freeman is expected to back up QB Andrew Luck.

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder, ribs, back) and WR Donte Moncrief (toe) both missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 31.

Footballguys view: Hasselbeck won't play and the other options...well our New Years Resolution includes one to say nothing if we have nothing nice to say, so just stay away. Moncrief is no more than a WR6.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck doubtful    Mon Dec 28, 04:59 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder) is doubtful to play in Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Footballguys view: Hasselbeck isn't ruling anything out, but he's 'not super optimistic' that he will play in Week 17. QB Stephen Morris could play against the Titans if QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) isn't ready to return.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck might sit Week 17    Mon Dec 28, 12:49 AM

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder) said Sunday, Dec. 27, that he was not optimistic about playing in Week 17 after suffering a sprained AC joint against the Miami Dolphins in Week 16.

Footballguys view: His backup Charlie Whitehurst is also banged up. The Colts offensive line has gotten their QBs beaten up this year, and we're not optimistic they can win against the Dolphins is Whitehurst is playing.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck probable    Fri Dec 25, 02:52 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (back, ribs) was a full participant in practice Friday, Dec. 25, and he's probable for Week 16.

Footballguys view: Hasselbeck is starting, but if recent games are any indication, he might not finish the game at Miami. He's only a desperation play at quarterback, but he does have upside.

Indianapolis Colts QBs Matt Hasselbeck (back, ribs) and Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) were both limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 24.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck has another ailment    Thu Dec 24, 10:11 AM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, neck, arm, jaw) has been on a liquid diet since the Week 15 game because of damage to his jaw. He's hoping to return to solid foods Thursday, Dec. 24.

Footballguys view: Well, this sounds horrible. So does Charlie Whitehurst though. With both guys we expect no better than bad QB3 numbers.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck expected to play    Tue Dec 22, 06:55 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (rib, neck, arm) is expected to play in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. It will be Hasselbeck's eighth start of the season.

Footballguys view: Andrew Luck isn't ready to go, so Hasselbeck will tough it out through another start. The old man has gotten beat up often by opponents, so finishing the game may be difficult if the Colts don't protect him better. He took part in a walkthrough practice Tuesday, Dec. 22, and isn't in a sling like he was last week.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck beat up    Mon Dec 21, 04:45 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (rib, neck, arm) is 'beat up from the feet up,' according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Pagano will evaluate Hasselbeck further Tuesday, Dec. 22, and the Colts may have to turn to QB Charlie Whitehurst in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins.

Footballguys view: QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) has already been ruled out, and the Colts want him to be cleared by doctors for game action with enough time to practice all week before he returns.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck probable    Fri Dec 18, 01:05 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) is probable for Week 15.

Footballguys view: The probable tag is encouraging for the Colts, but the game is clearly catching up with Hasselbeck's body, and we wouldn't be shocked if his day ends early against Houston.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck back at practice    Fri Dec 18, 12:19 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) was back at practice again Friday, Dec. 18. If he can't play in Week 15 against the Houston Texans, QB Charlie Whitehurst will receive the start.

Footballguys view: That Hasselbeck's status is this shaky heading into the game should be enough to scare you off of playing him unless you have no other option. Even if he starts, any hit could knock him out of the game.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck has rib separation    Thu Dec 17, 03:28 PM

Updating an ongoing story, Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) is dealing with a rib separation that is 'incredibly painful.' Hasselbeck is unlikely to be able to throw without pain in his ribs. However, Hasselbeck is still expected to be available in Week 15 against the Houston Texans. The Colts are hoping Hasselbeck can do more in practice Friday, Dec. 18. QB Charlie Whitehurst would receive the start if Hasselbeck can't play.

Footballguys view: "Incredibly painful" is an under-statement. It's like "really bad" doesn't quite describe "The Phantom Menace." Unlike our hopes for "The Force Awakens," our hopes for Hasselbeck to play are not very high. Even if he plays, he isn't a guy we'd start, nor is his replacement, Charlie Whitehurst.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck limited    Thu Dec 17, 02:54 PM

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) was listed as limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Footballguys view: We're not optimistic, but we don't like Charlie Whitehurst either. Avoid the Colts quarterbacks unless you need a low-end QB3 for some reason.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck not guaranteed to start    Thu Dec 17, 02:35 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) is not guaranteed to start against the Houston Texans in Week 15, and he said heavy breathing is the biggest challenge for him.

Footballguys view: There's a good chance Charlie Whitehurst will be the starter and man we just started feeling a little nauseous. Neither Whitehurst nor Hasselbeck is worth a start or any better than a QB3.

Colts | QB tandem practicing for Colts    Thu Dec 17, 12:02 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) and QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) are practicing Thursday, Dec. 17.

Footballguys view: We don't expect Luck to play, but Hasselbeck might. This is a very important game for Indianapolis and we think they will do everything they can to keep Charlie Whitehurst on the bench but they may not have a choice. Hasselbeck is not more than a QB3 - so is TJ Yates on the other sideline - and we would avoid all the quarterbacks involved in this. If you have to start one of these guys, go see the new Star Wars movie instead.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck resting Wednesday    Wed Dec 16, 07:10 PM

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (back, ribs) was resting in practice Wednesday, Dec. 16, and head coach Chuck Pagano is hoping to have Hasselbeck back at practice Thursday, Dec. 17, and to play in Week 15 against the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: It sounds like a Charlie Whitehurst start in the game to determine who will be in first place in the AFC South with two games left is still in play.

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (back, ribs) and WR Donte Moncrief (toe) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck should start    Mon Dec 14, 04:43 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) should be healthy enough to start in Week 15, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Footballguys view: We're a little bit too early to feel confident that will be the case. Hasselbeck should be limited in practice this week. If he can't play, then Charlie Whitehurst might be the team's starter in Week 15. There's also an outside chance that Andrew Luck will be ready...but we're not counting on that.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck in sling    Mon Dec 14, 02:50 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) was seen leaving the stadium with his left arm in a sling Sunday, Dec. 13.

Footballguys view: We'd be shocked if Hasselbeck is ready to go for Week 15. His status for Week 15 against the Houston Texans is shaky. The Colts are hopeful that Andrew Luck can return soon, but they may be going with Charlie Whitehurst as their starter in the meantime.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck unable to finish game    Sun Dec 13, 04:33 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs) left the team's Week 14 game because of injured ribs and was not able to return.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck probable    Fri Dec 11, 02:06 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (neck, back) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 11, and he's probable for Week 14.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck expected to start    Mon Dec 7, 05:30 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (neck, rib) should be able to participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 9, and is expected to be the starting quarterback against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Footballguys view: The Colts will likely take it easy on the old quarterback this week during practice. Hasselbeck's MRI revealed a stiff neck and a mild rib separation.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck unsure of status    Mon Dec 7, 05:04 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (neck, shoulder) said he is not sure if he will be available to play in the Week 14 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but head coach Chuck Pagano said he believes Hasselbeck will be fine.

Footballguys view: The Colts should take it easy on Hasselbeck during the week of practice. He should be okay to play against the Jaguars, and against that defense we should see the entire Colts offense bounce back after a poor performance against the Steelers on Sunday.

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (neck, leg) was lifted late in the second half of the Week 13 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a lopsided score in the fourth quarter.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck posts another good game    Sun Nov 29, 05:22 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns as the Colts defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 25-12, on Sunday, Nov. 29.

Footballguys view: Hasselbeck was a technician, working the short and intermediate routes and mixing in more downfield passing as he riffed with T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief better than he has at any point earlier this year. Indianapolis gets the easy Steelers defense next week while the reeling Falcons will get to take advantage of the good matchups against the Bucs.

Colts | Ahmad Bradshaw catches two TDs    Sun Nov 22, 06:06 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR Ahmad Bradshaw caught two touchdown passes from QB Matt Hasselbeck in a 24-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck throws two TDs    Sun Nov 22, 05:25 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck threw for two touchdowns Sunday, Nov. 22, in a 24-21 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Hasselbeck finished 23 of 32 for 213 yards.

Footballguys view: Hasselbeck took what the defense gave him, and got help from his own defense to get to 3-0 as a starter this year. He'll face the hot Bucs defense next week.

Colts | Andrew Luck will miss time    Tue Nov 10, 03:12 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) will miss two to six weeks with an abdominal tear and a lacerated kidney he suffered in the fourth quarter against the Denver Broncos in Week 9. Luck will not need surgery, however. QB Matt Hasselbeck will start in Luck's place.

Footballguys view: Luck was absolutely hammered by the Broncos defense on Sunday. They blitzed him on nearly 65 percent of his dropbacks, and Luck felt pressure on 54.8 percent of the time he went to pass. The Colts will now turn (again) to veteran Matt Hasselbeck.

Luck is 0-4 in his career against the Patriots and has lost by an average of 29 points.

Luck missed the last two weeks and has been limited in practice, but this is a positive sign that he'll be ready to return in Week 6 against the New England Patriots.

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (illness) will start Thursday, Oct. 8, despite a virus that required intravenous fluids in the hospital after last week's game. Hasselbeck is still sick as he takes on the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: In the immortal words of Dr. Bruce Banner in 'The Avengers' - So. This all seems horrible. A sick Hasselbeck, a poor offensive line and a tough Houston defensive front make this something to avoid. Hasselbeck isn't more than a QB3, TY Hilton is a WR3 and we believe the team will ride Frank Gore who should be a solid RB2.
