Broncos | Mitchell Trubisky reportedly had interest in Denver    Tue Mar 30, 08:18 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Mitchell Trubisky was very interested in signing with the Denver Broncos in free agency and competing for the starting quarterback job but the Broncos never made an offer, according to multiple sources Tuesday, March 30.

Broncos | Denver had interest in Mitchell Trubisky    Sun Mar 28, 11:02 AM

The Denver Broncos reportedly showed interest in former Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky during free agency before he ultimately decided to sign with the Buffalo Bills, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: It's a pretty well-known fact the Broncos want competition (or a flat-out upgrade) for Drew Lock. They had interest in Matthew Stafford and thought they had him before the Rams pulled off that trade. They have been interested in Ryan Fitzpatrick, Trubisky and others but have not yet found the right guy. That player may come through the 2021 NFL draft but at the no.9 overall pick all the top QBs may be gone. Either way, Lock is in a make-it-or-break-it year for the Broncos.

Bills | Mitchell Trubisky joining Buffalo    Thu Mar 18, 03:03 PM

Free-agent QB Mitchell Trubisky (Bears) agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills Thursday, March 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Trubisky will go to a good organization with a good coaching staff and hope he gets another shot to start down the line. He's an upgrade from Matt Barkley.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky on his way out?    Thu Jan 14, 12:55 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky may not be in the team's plans for 2021, in the opinion of ESPN's Jeff Dickerson, who noted that GM Ryan Pace declined to say the team would try to re-sign Trubisky during a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Pace instead said that the Bears 'need more out of the position,' and that 'everything is on the table' for next season.

Footballguys view: A first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft (taken before Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes) is set to be a free agent because the Bears declined his fifth-year option. We doubt Trubisky returns to the Bears. Sure, the team went to the playoffs only to get predictably bounced in the Wild Card Round but that doesn't mean Trubisky is the answer. The Bears will look for a new quarterback this offseason.

Bears | Chicago eliminated from the playoffs    Sun Jan 10, 07:45 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 19-of-29 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the NFC wild-card game loss in New Orleans on Sunday, Jan. 10. RB David Montgomery was limited to 31 yards on 12 rushes, while Trubisky also chipped in with 10 rushing yards. WR Allen Robinson led the team with six grabs for 55 yards on seven targets, while WR DeAndre Carter registered three grabs for 17 yards with one run for three yards. TE Jimmy Graham ended up with 25 yards and two receptions with a touchdown, while TE Cole Kmet had three grabs for 16 yards on four targets. LB Danny Trevathan had a game-high 10 total tackles, including nine solo stops, with a quarterback hit.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky may not return in 2021    Sun Jan 10, 04:49 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky probably will not return to the Bears next season unless he has a long run in the playoffs this season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Trubisky has been average-to-bad as a starter in the NFL. The Bears will never live down passing up on both Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes to select Trubisky with the no.2 overall pick. He is likely to move on next season but it would only be to compete for a starting job. No team is going to hand him the keys based on his career play.

Bears | Chicago goes out with a whimper    Sun Jan 3, 08:04 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 33-of-42 passes for 252 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers, and he added 22 rushing yards. RB David Montgomery ended up with a game-high 69 yards and a score, while WR Darnell Mooney led the team with 11 receptions, 93 yards and 13 targets. Montgomery also had nine receptions for 63 yards, while TE Cole Kmet had seven catches for 41 yards on eight targets. WR Allen Robinson posted two catches for 37 yards, and WR Anthony Miller ended up with two catches for 13 yards, while TE Jimmy Graham finished with two grabs and five yards. DE Khalil Mack posted four total stops, a sack, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.

Footballguys view: The Bears were competitive for most of the game, but didn't have the firepower on offense or playmaking ability on defense to keep up with Aaron Rodgers. David Montgomery left briefly with a leg injury but came back in to be the engine of the offense, as he has been for the last month plus of the season. The Bears back into the playoffs and will go to New Orleans as the #7 seed next week.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky tosses TD in home loss    Sun Dec 6, 07:22 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 26-of-34 passes for 267 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions with six rushing yards in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions.

Footballguys view: Most of Trubisky's best days have come against the Lions. This wasn't a bad day as a passer, but a fumble late with the game on the line makes it a failure even though he wasn't a fantasy bust. We'll see who starts against Houston next with Nick Foles healthy now. The Bears quarterback will be a intriguing DFS play or QB2/Superflex against the Texans in Week 14.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky enjoys facing Detroit    Wed Dec 2, 10:41 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will start against the Detroit Lions in Week 13. While he has his lowest completion percentage (58.3) since the team drafted him No. 2 overall in 2017, facing the Lions might be the cure for his ills. He has four straight games with three touchdown passes facing the Lions, including Week 1 when he had three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky was named the Week 13 starter by head coach Matt Nagy Wednesday, Dec. 2. He'll start Sunday, Dec. 6, against the Detroit Lions.

Footballguys view: The Bears could go back-and-forth on their starter before the season is over. Trubisky starts again for now, but Nick Foles could be called upon again if (when?) Trubisky struggles.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is expected to draw another start in Week 13 versus the Detroit Lions, according to comments made by head coach Matt Nagy on Monday, Nov. 30.

Footballguys view: Trubisky practiced all last week while Nick Foles did not due to a hip injury. We don't yet know how much Foles will be able to do this week in practice, making Trubisky the early-week call as the starter for Week 13.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky should play    Fri Nov 27, 05:09 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 27, and is not on the injury report for Week 12.

Footballguys view: Trubisky has been named the starter for the Bears....so yeah, he should play. In his return to the starting lineup, Fantasy GMs should only consider Trubisky a low-end (very low) QB2 in Week 12.

  Bears | Chicago's Week 12 injury report    Fri Nov 27, 02:53 PM

Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles (hip) did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers. DT Akiem Hicks (hamstring) also did not practice all week but is listed as questionable. OT Charles Leno Jr. (toe) did not practice for a second straight day Friday, Nov. 27, and is also listed as questionable. CB Buster Skrine (ankle) was added to the injury report and limited in practice Friday; he is listed as questionable. S Sherrick McManis (hand) and OL Rashaad Coward (ankle) practiced in full Friday and are also listed as questionable. TE Jimmy Graham (rest), LB Danny Trevathan (personal), NT John Jenkins (ankle), WR Cordarrelle Patterson (calf), LB Barkevious Mingo (shoulder), RB David Montgomery (concussion), OL Sam Mustipher (knee) and QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

Footballguys view: Mitchell Trubisky has some running ability to help the offense, but overall the move to him from Foles is not good for Allen Robinson (who should still remain in lineups) or Jimmy Graham.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) practiced in full for a second straight day Thursday, Nov. 26, and is expected to draw the start over Nick Foles in Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers, according to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune.

Bears | HC uncertain about Mitchell Trubisky    Tue Nov 17, 01:36 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) remains sidelined due to a shoulder injury. Head coach Matt Nagy was asked about Trubisky after the Week 10 game, following an injury to QB Nick Foles. 'I don't know yet about Mitch. I think there's a possibility but I don't know that for sure,' he said Monday, Nov. 16. 'I think it's going to be day-by-day, I don't know if he know that. So we'll just keep any eye on that obviously with Nick's status. We'll have to see where that's at as we go.'

Footballguys view: The Bears have a Week 11 bye, so we'll see if Foles can get healthy or if Trubisky can get out there in Week 12. Reports indicated the injury to Foles isn't as serious as feared. Stay tuned.

Footballguys view: It's officially official now...and for now. Trubisky is in a make-or-break year and the odds are stacked against him. If he struggles at any time, the team may not hesitate to go to Nick Foles and move on from the painful Trubisky era.

Chicago Bears QBs Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky continue to battle for the starting quarterback job, and head coach Matt Nagy said Monday, Aug. 31 that he will announce his starter sometime next week, likely Monday, Sept. 6 or Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Trubisky can win the starting job. Foles is a seasoned veteran who should be performing better than Trubisky in a game setting. If Trubisky wins the starting job out of camp, do not be surprised if Foles ends up starting if/when Trubisky struggles.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs aren't dialed in on this situation for good reason. Instead, we are all focused on WR Allen Robinson. He's such a good receiver that he can perform no matter who is tossing him the rock. Robinson has a current ADP of WR10 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Chicago Bears QBs Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles appear to be no closer to answering the question regarding the identity of the team's starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.'It's not going to happen soon,' Matt Nagy said.

Footballguys view: Trubisky has looked better according to camp reports and his teammates like what he's showing on the practice field. However, Foles has been there and done that so his experience could just make him the better option in the long run. Do not be surprised if the Bears begin the season with one guy and then make a change somewhere along the way. It's a make-or-break year for Trubisky that is for sure.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky praised by teammate    Tue Aug 18, 04:33 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky drew compliments from teammate WR/RB Cordarrelle Patterson Tuesday, Aug. 18, for his demeanor at training camp. 'The way he's handling things. I feel he's been more of a leader,' Patterson said. 'Last year I didn't feel like he was that guy, but this year he's taking over. He wants everybody to know that he's that guy and we can come to him when we need something. He's doing a helluva job with it.'

Footballguys view: Trubisky is trying to prove he should stay the starter for the Bears in training camp. He's competing with veteran Nick Foles for that job and it should be his job to lose.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky believes he has improved    Fri Jul 31, 03:26 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky said he worked with a quarterbacks coach this offseason and worked on improving his footwork and mechanics.

Footballguys view: Trubisky needs to prove it on the field. While other first-round QBs from his class (Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes) are superstars in this league, Trubisky is looking more and more like a bust. The Bears have brought in competition this offseason as veteran Nick Foles will push Trubisky for the starting job. If he's improved, Trubisky needs to show it in practice and win the job outright. Then, he needs to play better in games...oh yeah, and win.

Footballguys view: That's a bold statement, especially considering Ginn was playing with the Saints last year. I know we're going to push each other, but I still feel like this is my team.'

Footballguys view: Trubisky and Foles are in an open quarterback battle, but Foles should be favored and Foles winning would be better for the offense and passing game targets unless Trubisky improves greatly this offseason. Trubisky is saying the right things, but he'll have to show that he's grasping the offense better than he did last year to follow through on this newfound motivation.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray leaned heavily on short throws    Wed Jun 10, 10:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray led the league in percentage of passing attempts behind the line of scrimmage in 2019 at 21.4 percent (minimum 200 attempts). San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (20.5), Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (20 and Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (20) were the other quarterbacks who finished over 20 percent last season.

Footballguys view: The Kliff Kingsbury offense is all about using short passes to march down the field. There will be deep shots as well, but quick passing and RPO action is the hallmark of what the Cardinals want to do on offense. Expect that to continue in 2020.

Bears | Preseason to determine QB1 in Chicago    Tue May 26, 03:11 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said Tuesday, May 26, QBs Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles will both see time working with the starters in preseason games.

Footballguys view: Trubisky was supposed to be the franchise quarterback for the Bears but he has disappointed as a pro. Foles has experience and a championship history. He's worked under Nagy before when he was with the Chiefs, so Foles may not take that long to get up to speed. In fact, Foles may just end up winning the starting job. We'll see how this shakes out in training camp.

Bears | GM "believes" in Mitchell Trubisky     Fri May 8, 12:19 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky still has belief of general manager Ryan Pace even though the quarterback's fifth-year contract option wasn't exercised. 'We've always had the approach that we're honest and we're truthful with our players and our staff, and we move on and we get to work. ...' Pace said Thursday, May 7, in an interview on radio station WSCR. 'Mitch gets it. Everyone's competing. Everyone's focused on better results. That's the entire team. That starts with me and everybody. We believe in Mitch -- that doesn't change. ... I think you can point to [cornerback] Kyle Fuller as a great example of a player that didn't get his option exercised. I think we would say it worked out well for him and for us.'

Footballguys view: This is all lip service after the team chose not to pick up Trubisky's fifth year option. The big question now is what team will give him a shot in 2021 the way the Raiders did with Marcus Mariota's incentive-laden two-year contract this year.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky's option declined    Sat May 2, 05:06 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will not have his fifth-year option picked up this offseason, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Trubisky has failed to impress as a starter for the Bears from his rookie season in 2017. The Bears traded for Nick Foles to compete with Trubisky for the starting job this year. Trubisky is now set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.
