Rams | Matthew Stafford just misses 300 yards Sun Sep 14, 07:18 PM
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford completed 23-of-33 passes for 298 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans, and he ran twice for minus-6 yards.
Footballguys view: Stafford had a strong game even though his offensive guard duo is banged up and the Titans best defender is a defensive tackle. He got Davante Adams more involved today and showed he can be playable as a QB2/Superflex in the right matchup. Next week vs. the defending champion Eagles is probably not that matchup. |

Los Angeles Rams WR Matthew Stafford completed 21-of-29 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, and he ran four times for minus-2 yards while recording his own fumble. He reached 60,000 career passing yards, tying Matt Ryan as the second-fastest player to reach the milestone.

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is expected to play in the Week 1 game, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: After practicing fully all last week without setbacks -- including participating in 11-on-11 drills -- Stafford appears on track. McVay's confidence is evident. Of course, that assurance comes with a caveat: Stafford is managing a lingering back injury, and though he's deemed "ready to play," there's widespread concern about whether he can play well when hit. We'll find out more about that Sunday, when the Rams take on a tough Texans defense. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) fully participated in practice Monday, Aug. 25. Head coach Sean McVay said Stafford is on track to play in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Stafford has been dealing with a disc injury in his back that kept him out of practice for the first few weeks of training camp. He's set to fully participate in practice this week, and McVay told reporters, "There's nothing that would leave me to believe, unless we have an unforeseen setback, that [Stafford's] not going to be ready to roll against the Texans." As long as Stafford is on the field, Puka Nacua and Davante Adams should return value for fantasy investors. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) has been a full participant during practice this week but will not travel with the final preseason game, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Good news for Stafford and the Rams here. Back issues are troubling, and Stafford needs a bit of time to shake off the rust. He wasn't going to play in the preseason finale even if he was healthy, so that's not really a big news item. However, it is good to see a full participation level as the team gets ready for Week 1. Stafford is a QB2 for Fantasy GMs out there. |

Los Angles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) has been a full participant in practice this week and appears to showing no ill effects from the back issue that sidelined him recently, according to a report from Stu Jackson of Rams.com. 'There's no restrictions and he's playing at a really high level. ... He's looked like the stud we know,' according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Good news for the Rams here. Stafford has been battling back problems all summer long. It's tricky for any player, but especially for an older player like Stafford. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) practiced again Tuesday, Aug. 19. He hit the field for the first time on Monday after being sidelined for nearly a month with a back injury.
Footballguys view: Being on the field Tuesday indicates Stafford didn't have any sort of setback or aggravation after Monday's practice. Sean McVay said he wanted to see how Stafford's back would respond following his first practice, and it seems to have gone well. Not only did Stafford go through individual drills with the other quarterbacks, USA Today's Cameron DaSilva notes the QB was participating in the team portion of practice, too. The Rams are still being cautious, but as long as Stafford continues to progress, DaSilva contends the QB should reasonably be ready for Week 1. |

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford practiced for the first time during training camp on Monday, with the team noting that he was a full participant in an hour-long practice. Head coach Sean McVay told reporters that Stafford looked good practicing, but added that he doesn't have any further updates. "It was good to be able to have Matthew out there. He did a good job today," McVay said. "I think there was a lot of intended information, but there are no updates. We're going to keep it a day, and really, a week at a time."
Footballguys view: McVay did not share what the rest of the week would be like when it comes to Stafford's practice schedule. McVay also would not go into a level of confidence for Stafford being ready for the opener. "I think that would be putting the cart way before the horse," McVay said, via Gary Klein of the L.A. Times. "I thought he did a good job today." Stafford, 37, had not practiced in training camp until Monday as he's been dealing with a disc issue in his back. We'll continue to follow up as developments warrant. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 18.
Footballguys view: This comes after Los Angeles did not confirm if Stafford had gone through his Saturday workout over the weekend, noting head coach Sean McVay would address the situation on Monday. While it's currently unclear how much Stafford will participate, multiple reporters on the scene note Stafford is taking snaps during individual drills. Stafford, 37 and entering his 17th pro season, has been dealing with a disc issue in his back. We'll follow up as needed. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is not participating in practice Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Footballguys view: After expectations were set for a Monday return, Stafford is now officially behind schedule. The Rams' staff remains steadfast in the belief that he'll be back soon. But fantasy managers who planned to invest early picks in Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Kyren Williams wouldn't be blamed for looking elsewhere at this point. |

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 11, because did not feel good enough to take part in drills, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is not participating in practice Monday, Aug. 11. Head coach Sean McVay previously stated the plan was for Stafford to participate in individual drills Monday.
Footballguys view: This is becoming a discouraging pattern. The Rams could simply not set goals to get back Stafford back on the practice field and then him missing practice wouldn't seem so ominous. Still, they have one of the best backup quarterbacks in Jimmy Garoppolo and offensive-minded head coaches in Sean McVay, so there's no reason to panic about Rams players or push them significantly down your board. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is scheduled to work out Saturday, Aug. 9, and likely will return to practice Monday, Aug. 11, if he does not have any problems during the workout, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: That's good news for Stafford. The back injury at his age is a concern. However, the team is going to take it easy and get him ready for the start of the regular season. Jimmy Garoppolo is there to start if Stafford misses time. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is considered week-to-week after receiving an epidural in an aggravated disc in his back.
Footballguys view: The team is being cautious but plans for him to be ready for Week 1. Rams HC Sean McVay has said that Stafford is making progress behind the scenes. The team is calling this a maintenance issue with Stafford's back. Jimmy Garoppolo would get the start if Stafford has to miss time in the regular season. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) will not participate in the jog-through practice Monday, Aug. 4, but he will do a workout on his own, head coach Sean McVay said. 'It's static throwing. It's some of the unloaded running on the treadmill. Sometimes it might even be walking. Cardio and core,' McVay said.
Footballguys view: Stafford has been working his way through a sore back during training camp. The Rams have said all along that the plan is for the quarterback to be ready for the team's regular season opener against the Texans on Sunday, Sept. 7. So we'll see. There's still plenty of time to get ready. In Stafford's absence, Jimmy Garoppolo has taken first-team reps in his place while former fourth-round pick Stetson Bennett has worked with the second team. The Rams are scheduled to open their season Sept. 7 against the Houston Texans. We'll continue to monitor the situation closely. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) still does not have a timetable to return to practice, but head coach Sean McVay said he is 'very confident' that Stafford will be ready for Week 1.
Footballguys view: We have to trust McVay here, and it helps that the Rams have the highly accomplished Jimmy Garoppolo at backup quarterback. Still, if Stafford not participating in camp gives you pause when considering Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Kyren Williams at ADP, that's only rational. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) has not suffered any setbacks but will not be ready to practice Monday, July 28, according to head coach Sean McVay. McVay said Stafford is considered week-to-week at this point, but the team hopes he will be ready for the start of the regular season.
Footballguys view: We shouldn't feel free to dismiss this as insignificant. If we don't see Stafford get on the practice field at any time this summer, it will be more difficult to feel great about drafting Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Kyren Williams at ADP, although Jimmy Garoppolo has been with the team for a year and is one of the most accomplished backups in the league. It's not clear if the team is being overly cautious, if Stafford had a setback, or if the back issue is just worse than they originally estimated, but it's never a good thing when a team revises their return to practice timeline for their starting quarterback. In the meantime, 2023 fourth round pick Stetson Bennett is set up to get a ton of experience in the preseason, and Garoppolo is worth an add in superflex dynasty leagues. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is dealing with some back soreness and will work on the side with trainers during the first few days of training camp, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: McVay doesn't expect Stafford's back to be a long-term issue, saying he should return to his usual workload in the second block of camp. Once he's back to full health, Stafford will be operating with a revised receiving corps featuring newcomer Davante Adams, who replaces Cooper Kupp as the starter opposite Puka Nacua. Stafford, being drafted as QB22 in Round 13, is a viable late-round QB2 for those waiting late on the position. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford completed only 41 percent of his passes inside the 10-yard line during the 2024 season.
Footballguys view: The Rams got Stafford signed to a two-year extension earlier this offseason, and now they need to get the most from the veteran quarterback. He's not the elite-level passer he used to be, but Stafford is perfect for the Sean McVay offense full of Shanahan concepts (play-action, zone-blocking). Projecting him for around 4,000 yards passing with 24 touchdowns (and around 10 interceptions) seems right, and that makes him a QB2 for Fantasy GMs. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford signed a renegotiated contract that will allow him to earn $44 million in 2025, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. If Stafford is on the roster at the start of free agency in 2026, he will make another $40 million guaranteed.
Footballguys view: Considering that they don't have an heir apparent on the roster, Stafford seems likely to get every opportunity to earn that money. At this point, there's no reason to believe he can't play at a level similar to what we've seen in the last two years. He's 19-12 as a starter over that span, completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 7,727 yards with 44 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. Stafford gives the Rams a great shot at post-season play, and, as we've noted in the past, fantasy managers with stakes in Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Kyren Williams have a better chance of getting the most out of their investments. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is expected to go year-to-year with his decision to continue playing, but head coach Sean McVay said he hopes Stafford plays for several more seasons.
Footballguys view: The Rams don't have an heir apparent on the roster. But they do have two first-round picks for 2026, having acquired the Falcons' top selection for next year. That gives them ammunition to trade up for a quarterback in 2026 if they so desire. Still, McVay's hope is understandable. Stafford has kept the Rams contenders. He is 19-12 as a starter the past two seasons, completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 7,727 yards with 44 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. "We have a chance with him every time he's at the switch, and love working with him," McVay told Adam Schein on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio. In addition, fantasy managers with stakes in Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Kyren Williams have a better chance of getting the most out of their investments. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford will meet with the team in the facility Friday, Feb. 28, to discuss his future. The Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants have discussed a two-year deal with $90-$100 million guaranteed with him.
Footballguys view: We'll see if the Rams can keep Stafford, or if they're ready to move on from the veteran passer. The Raiders have a huge need for Stafford, and it would be interesting to see him work with HC Pete Carroll and OC Chip Kelly. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford's representatives met with the New York Giants Tuesday, Feb. 25, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Stafford's brother-in-law, Chad Hall, is the Giants new assistant quarterbacks coach. Everyone is making the connection, but no trade has been made. When a deal is done, the Stafford camp wants to get him a new deal that pays around $50 million annually. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is likely to remain with the team, in the opinion of SNY's Connor Hughes. Hughes opines that Stafford's ability to talk with other teams is to determine his value, which the Rams would likely offer in a revised deal.
Footballguys view: This Stafford deal is all over the place. There are reports about three of four teams being interested in Stafford, and a market price is being determined. He wants a deal that pays him $50 million per year, and he might be able to get that number. Now, the Rams may be considering hanging onto him. As always, the truth will come out so stay tuned. |

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford and his representation have reportedly been in contact with Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady in recent days, according to multiple sources. Per Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Raiders have 'a massive need at quarterback and want to address it this offseason,' which makes it possible the team is willing to meet Stafford's contract demands at a level the Rams are not.
Footballguys view: The Raiders have been rumored to be in on Stafford as they look for a starting quarterback. This makes four teams (Steelers, Browns, Giants) as possible teams that trade for Stafford...if he's available. The latest in this saga has the Rams keeping Stafford. Who knows what his future holds, so stay tuned. |

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers, who is expected to be released at some point this offseason, reportedly prefers to sign with the Los Angeles Rams if Matthew Stafford is traded, according to multiple sources. Furthermore, multiple sources suggest Rodgers could convince WR Davante Adams, who is scheduled to count $38.34 million against New York's salary cap in 2025, to join him with the Rams in the likely event Adams is released.
Footballguys view: Adams and Rodgers seem like a package deal no matter where he lands (expect maybe the Raiders?). The Rams have to move on from Stafford first before they consider adding Rodgers. After that, we'll see if Adams follows his friend to his new team. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford has received trade interest from the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders.
Footballguys view: Another day, and more Stafford news coming out of the NFL. Stafford would immediately make a team like the Steelers Super Bowl contenders. The Giants, Browns, and Raiders have further to go but he's a clear upgrade over what they've got or any options they could have. We'll see if some team is interested in making a trade with the Rams. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is seeking a new contract that pays him $50 million annually, according to sources Monday, Feb. 24.
Footballguys view: There are rumblings that at least three teams have expressed interest in trading for Stafford. If some team adds him via trade, they will most likely have a contract situation already in mind. The Steelers, Raiders, and Giants are among the teams rumored to be interested in the veteran quarterback. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford appears likely to return to the Rams next season, sources told ESPN.com's Dan Graziano.
Footballguys view: More than one fanbase is dreaming of the possibility of Stafford playing for their team next season, but the staying with the Rams is probably the best option for both parties. The team will likely need to adjust his contract, but he's happy with the direction the offense is headed even though the team is likely to move on from Cooper Kupp in the offseason. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford plans to play next season but it is not known if he will be playing for the Rams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: As he showed in 2024, Stafford can still play at a high level. The Rams are a playoff team so long as Stafford is the starter. Stafford is due a non-guaranteed $27 million in the final year of his contract. We'll see the Rams and Stafford work something out to get him some guaranteed money for 2025. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (ribs) suffered four cracked ribs during the Week 15 win over the San Francisco 49ers but continued to play through the injury, his wife, Kelly, announced on her podcast. During the Divisional Round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Stafford aggravated the injury.
Footballguys view: Stafford is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL. He turns 37 years old later this year and may decide to play one more season. Stafford said he will â€"take some time to think about it†when asked about his playing future. |

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford said he would take some time before deciding on his NFL future, following the playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, Jan. 19, but he added that he 'sure feels like' that he has football left in him.
Footballguys view: Stafford, 36, has two years remaining on his contract, one he and the Rams worked to adjust heading into training camp this season. Rams coach Sean McVay declined to answer a postgame question Sunday about Stafford's future, saying, "I'm not really interested in talking about anything as it relates to next year. Right now, I'm just appreciative of this team." Though Stafford said he hadn't made any decisions about his future, when recounting the end of the game, he spoke about the next time he was on the field. "I love competing," he said. "It didn't go the way I wanted to today. Next time I'm out there, line it up. Let's do it again." Stafford's return would offer continuity for those invested in Puka Nacua and the other offensive pieces in Los Angeles. We'll watch for more on this. |

The Los Angeles Rams were eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Divisional Round. QB Matthew Stafford completed 26-of-44 passes for 324 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, while running for five yards with one fumble lost. RB Kyren Williams had 19 carries for 106 yards, also had a lost fumble in the snow and ice. WR Puka Nacua ended up with six receptions for 97 yards on 14 targets, while WR Demarcus Robinson added three grabs for 74 yards, and WR Cooper Kupp snagged five balls for 61 yards on seven targets. TE Tyler Higbee ended up with seven receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets, and TE Colby Parkinson had two catches for nine yards and a score. DE Jared Verse had four solo stops, two sacks and three tackles for loss with two quarterback hits, while DT Neville Gallimore had a sack for a safety.
Footballguys view: The Rams came very close to an incredible comeback and showed that they can play in the cold and snow despite being from Los Angeles. They were able to slow down a relentless Eagles pass rush with a no huddle drive after falling behind 28-15 late in the fourth quarter and then got into the red zone on a potential game-winning last second drive. The Rams were on the brink of giving up on the season and trading Cooper Kupp before a win over the Vikings turned their season around. Their defense finished strong and the team is very young and should be the favorites to win the division next season. The biggest offseason question is whether the team will pay Kupp the $5 million guarantee of a $7.5 million roster bonus on March 15. Kupp is also due $12.5 in non-guaranteed salary next season. Ballyhooed sixth round rookie Jordan Whittington would move into Kupp's role if the Rams decide to move on from him. |

WR Puka Nacua was the top wideout with five catches for 44 yards on nine targets, while WR Cooper Kupp had a lone 29-yard reception on his only target. WR Demarcus Robinson also had a 23-yard reception on his only offensive touch on two targets, while TE Davis Allen had a 13-yard touchdown grab on his only reception. DE Jared Verse had a 57-yard fumble recovery for touchdown, too, while DT Neville Gallimore and LB Byron Young each had 1.5 sacks apiece. Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford, WR Puka Nacua, WR Cooper Kupp, RB Kyren Williams, OT Alaric Jackson and OG Kevin Dotson will not be active in Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach Sean McVay. Additionally, OT Rob Havenstein (shoulder) will not play due to a shoulder injury.
Footballguys view: This was expected after Sean McVay basically said as much earlier this week. Blake Corum will be a good play, and with Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback, Jordan Whittington, Demarcus Robinson, and Tutu Atwell have flex value. The Rams can still secure the #3 seed and avoid the loser of the Rams/Vikings game with a win. If they lose and the Bucs beat the Saints, Tampa Bay will be the #3 seed. |
