Raiders | Owen Schmitt still has chance to make roster    Wed Jun 27, 04:48 PM

Oakland Raiders FB Owen Schmitt has a chance to make the final roster even though FB Marcel Reece is on the roster. Schmitt could be used in short-yardage situations and has a history with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp.

Footballguys view: Reece is a quality blocker, runner, and receiver out of the backfield. Schmitt is more of your classic Fullback. He loves to hit people, and can regularly win collisions with Linebackers.

Raiders | Owen Schmitt to sign    Tue May 15, 07:55 PM

The Oakland Raiders will sign free-agent FB Owen Schmitt (Eagles) to a one-year deal, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Financial terms weren't given. FB Marcel Reece has yet to sign his exclusive-rights tender offer and isn't working out in voluntary activities.

Raiders | Owen Schmitt has tryout scheduled    Tue May 15, 01:58 AM

Free-agent FB Owen Schmitt (Eagles) has a tryout scheduled this week with the Oakland Raiders.

Footballguys view: Schmitt could help the Raiders as a blocker, but would be unlikely to get many touches as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. They have FB Marcel Reece already in place on the roster and he's versatile enough to play multiple positions.

Seahawks | Could have decision to make at fullback    Thu Sep 2, 01:40 AM

Seattle Seahawks FB Owen Schmitt is the team's only true fullback, but RB Quinton Ganther is capable of playing the role, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times.   Seahawks | Quinton Ganther could be fifth RB to make cut    Fri Aug 13, 09:26 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Quinton Ganther (head) could make the final cuts because of his versatility, reports The Seattle Times' Danny O'Neil. Seattle typically keeps three running backs and two fullbacks, but because of the premium placed on tight ends in their system, they'll likely only keep FB Owen Schmitt. Ganther can play some fullback as well as feature on special teams, which could secure a final spot on the 53-man roster. Ganther missed a practice this week after taking a hit to the head in a scrimmage Sunday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: Even if Ganther makes the team, he's unlikely to have fantasy value unless he's the goal line back.

Seahawks | Schmitt arrested    Thu Jun 25, 03:30 PM

Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times, reports Seattle Seahawks FB Owen Schmitt was arrested Saturday, June 20, on suspicion of drunken driving.

Seahawks | Schmitt, Griffith expected to compete for job    Fri May 22, 01:58 PM

Eric Williams, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks FB Owen Schmitt and FB Justin Griffith (knee) are expected to compete for the starting fullback job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Griffith was released by the Raiders back in February but signed with the Seahawks at the end of April. He is reunited in Seattle with Jim Mora Jr who was his coach in Atlanta. Schmitt is more of a hard hitting, traditional Lorenzo Neal-type of FB while Griffith can block and catch effectively.
