New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he will stick with QB Geno Smith despite his rough start against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4. However, Ryan hinted that Smith needs to improve after turning the ball over a season-high four times against the Titans. Smith is tied for the league lead with 11 turnovers through four games. 'You can't buy experience, but with that being said, we still have to do a much better job -- Geno, in particular -- of protecting the football at all costs,' Ryan said, 'You can't be nonchalant about it, you have to protect the ball.' QBs Matt Simms and Brady Quinn are the other options, and Simms has zero NFL experience.

The New York Jets aren't ruling out releasing QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder), even though they'd have to eat $8.25 million if they made that move. Sanchez hasn't thrown a football in nine days due to a shoulder injury. He won't play in Week 1, and his status is 'very uncertain.' If newly-signed QB Brady Quinn learns the offense quickly behind QB Geno Smith, Sanchez could become expendable. The team is ready to move on without Sanchez, but he counts $12.9 million against the salary cap this year, and he'll have a $4.8 million charge next season.
