Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield completed 28-of-50 passes for 228 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions, and he was sacked four times.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Jenna Laine suggested, there wasn't much of anything that went right for Mayfield and the Bucs. But things really deteriorated with Mike Evans going down with a broken collarbone and concussion. In addition, Emeka Egbuka wasn't at his best coming off a hamstring injury suffered last week, and the ground game didn't aide the passing game either. Up until this point, Mayfield was able to elevate his young receivers, but he couldn't against a Lions defense that had him off-kilter throughout the night. Mayfield will regroup and try again next week in a favorable matchup with the Saints.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to wait until the offseason to begin contract extension talks with QB Baker Mayfield, so that negotiations do not serve as a distraction. He has one year remaining on his current deal following the 2025 season.
Footballguys view: Back in the 2024 offseason, the Buccaneers signed Mayfield to a three-year, $100 MM contract extension. With the MVP-level play that Mayfield is producing on a weekly basis, that's a bargain for the team currently. Mayfield is under contract through the 2026 season, but it's unlikely he's going to want to play on that $33 MM price tag. We'll see if the Buccaneers can get something done with Mayfield during this season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield completed 29 of his 33 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 15 yards in a 38-35 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5.
Footballguys view: Mayfield was impressive, completing 9 of his 11 passes of 10-plus air yards for 227 yards and two touchdowns, the third-most downfield passing yards in a game this season. Mayfield's success came despite being pressured on 34.2 percent of his dropbacks. He completed 8 of 9 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown under pressure. He now has the fourth-most deep passing yards (681) and the third-most passing yards under pressure (440). Lock Mayfield back into the top-10 regardless of the matchup. The Buccaneers face the Jaguars in Week 6.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (biceps) is expected to play in Week 4's game versus the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source.
Footballguys view: There have been no outward signs that we should worry about Mayfield's arm, although didn't throw many passes this week and was seen wearing a sleeve on his throwing arm. The Bucs could lean on the run more this week after the Rams running backs gained 147 yards on 28 carries last week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (biceps) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 26, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.
Footballguys view: After practicing all week with a biceps injury, Mayfield will probably take the field. He's been known to play through injuries before, and often with no limitations. He's one of the league's toughest quarterbacks. Teddy Bridgewater would be next up if Mayfield is unable to play, but we expect to see him out there in a big game against the Eagles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (knee) may miss some practice time this week but should be ready to play in the Week 3 game, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: We're feeling great here with the report Mayfield did not need to undergo any tests because of his injury. Against the Jets on Sunday, Mayfield should finish the week as a top-10 fantasy quarterback.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield completed 17-of-32 passes for 167 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, and he ran five times for a team-high 39 yards.
Footballguys view: Mayfield didn't have a smooth day with his left tackle and slot receiver out, but he scraped out three scores and added some rushing yards to put up a big fantasy day anyway. He'll face a tough Houston defense next week, but you should feel good after drafting Mayfield after this clutch performance.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (hand) is out of practice Friday, Aug. 1, due to a contusion on his right hand. Scans were negative, and he's day to day.
Footballguys view: The team wanted to rule out a worse injury, like a fracture. In the meantime, Kyle Trask will get to run the first team offense and try to show that he might be overlooked as a developing quarterback because he has barely seen the field during his NFL career.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield has had his contract restructured and will now receive $30 million in guaranteed money in 2026. He was originally not scheduled to receive any guaranteed money in that season. The Buccaneers did not add any additional years to his contract.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield is a player the team plans to extend, according to general manager Jason Licht. Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield threw 17 touchdowns against the blitz during the 2024 season.
Footballguys view: PewterReport's Adam Slivon added to this by noting that in 220 drop-backs when blitzed, Mayfield completed 73.3% of his passes with 17 touchdowns to just four interceptions. His ability to distribute the ball quickly and efficiently has drastically improved since entering the NFL. Mayfield, who finished last season as QB4, is currently being drafted as QB7 in Round 7.
Baker Mayfield player page
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield accumulated 967 yards passing on throws completed behind the line of scrimmage in 2024 - the second-highest mark by any quarterback since 2018, according to Nex Gen Stats. Only Patrick Mahomes had more such passing yards in a season (1,058 in 2018).
Footballguys view: Expect more of the same this year as new Bucs OC Josh Grizzard isn't going to reinvent the wheel. Mayfield needs to cut down on his interceptions (he led the NFL with 16 last year), but he was the no.3 fantasy quarterback in 2024 (standard-scoring leagues). While we're not projecting him for 41 touchdowns, Mayfield should still pass for around 4,200 yards and 30-35 touchdowns this season. Those projections make him a top-10 fantasy quarterback for 2025.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield threw for 1,123 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions during the fourth quarter of games last season.
Footballguys view: Reports earlier this year indicated new Bucs OC Josh Grizzard â€"won't try to reinvent the wheel.†Mayfield was fantastic last year with now Jagaurs HC Liam Coen running the offense. It should be a rinse-and-repeat program this year for Mayfield, and that's got the attention of Fantasy GMs. His 41 touchdowns and 4,500 passing yards helped make him the no.3 fantasy quarterback in 2024 (standard leagues). Mayfield is a low-end QB1 in 2025 with the ability to crack the top-5 again.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis said he likes that QB Baker Mayfield is aggressive at times during games but would like to see Mayfield avoid some of the hits he takes during games. 'So I would want that guy show up in the 'gotta have it' moments. Early in the game, if it's not there I would prefer him to throw it away or get down, or check it down, add to the punt. Let's play a little team ball; we have a good defense. Let's flip the field. We don't have to get it all in one shot,' Lewis said.
Footballguys view: With Liam Coen moving on to be the head coach of the Jaguars, we'll see if Bucs new OC Josh Grizzard tries to design plays to get the ball out of Mayfield's hand quickly. Mayfield has plenty of 'playground football' to his game, but that chaos can get him hit more than the team would like. Projecting Mayfield as a top-10 fantasy quarterback is a given, and we think he should post more than 4,000 yards passing and 30-plus passing touchdowns in 2025.
Baker Mayfield player page
There are no sour grapes from Baker Mayfield regarding Liam Coen's departure. The former Buccaneers offensive coordinator became Jacksonville's head coach on Jan. 24 to end a drama-filled week in which he initially pulled himself out of the running and returned to Tampa Bay on a new contract, only to then accept a second interview with Jacksonville and, subsequently, the job offer. Despite all the back and forth, Mayfield gets it. "I know people are gonna be upset about it, but . . . you can't argue with that decision," Mayfield said. "I can't be mad at that. As much as I would want to have him still here, it is what it is. Life goes on, and I'm happy for him."
Footballguys view: It marks the second straight year Mayfield's OC has left for a head-coaching job since the QB joined the Buccaneers in 2023. Mayfield first revitalized his career under offensive coordinator Dave Canales, posting 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions to reach his first Pro Bowl. Canales left for the Carolina Panthers, in came Coen, and Mayfield flourished all the more. Under Coen, he shattered career highs set just the year prior, completing 71.4 percent of his throws for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. The Bucs promoted passing game coordinator Josh Grizzard to OC last week, offering at least some continuity.

He also lost a fumble. RB Bucky Irving had 17 carries for a game-high 77 yards and caught two passes for six yards. RB Rachaad White gained one yard on his only carry and had 14 receiving yards on two receptions. WR Mike Evans caught all seven of his targets for 92 yards and a touchdown, WR Jalen McMillan had two grabs for 41 yards, and TE Cade Otton had 32 receiving yards on two receptions.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield went 21-for-32 for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the New Orleans Saints in Week 18. He also rushed for 68 yards on nine carries during the game.
Footballguys view: Mayfield didn't light it up this week but he did eclipse 40 pass touchdowns and lead his team back from a 10 point deficit for the first time in his career. He'll get to start a home playoff game against the Commanders for his efforts.
Baker Mayfield player page
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield went 27-for-32 for 359 yards and five touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17.
Footballguys view: Mayfield has been the best value pick at quarterback this year, rising to the top five and elite everyweek starting status from the late rounds of fantasy drafts. He will be responsible for a lot of fantasy championship wins this week. No one will want to face the Bucs in the first round of the playoffs if the Bucs can get some breaks and win the division after the loss to the Cowboys last week knocked them out of first place.
