Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield is not likely to stage a holdout from mandatory minicamp, which begins on June 16, even though the two sides are not believed to be close to finalizing a contract extension. According to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler, discussions are in the early stages but Mayfield will not negotiate a long-term deal once training camp has started.

With the deadline closer to August, there's no need for Mayfield to hold out during mandatory minicamp. The Bucs' playcalling also took a step backward in 2025, with Josh Grizzard not able to fill the void left by Liam Coen. The hope is that new OC Zach Robinson, who was serving as passing game coordinator and QB coach for the Rams when Mayfield arrived in Los Angeles late in the 2022 season -- when Mayfield had instant success -- will change things for the better. |

At this point, Mayfield doesn't appear to be at risk of missing Saturday's game against the Panthers, which may determine the winner of the NFC South. Mayfield has completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 3,490 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions so far in 2025. He's rushed for 351 yards with a TD as well. Mayfield is QB12 on the season, but his 16.3 points per game rank 18th at the position. |
