Dolphins | Alexander Mattison will be able to play again Tue Aug 12, 01:51 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison (neck) will miss the 2025 season because of his neck surgery, but head coach Mike McDaniel said the injury is not career-ending.
Footballguys view: Mattison was having a strong camp and profiled to take some of the goal-line work for Miami. With him missing the season, rookie Ollie Gordon II may have a chance to carve out that potentially valuable role. Gordon is 6'1" and 226 pounds with a bruising playstyle. He's worth consideration as a final round pick in your fantasy drafts. |

Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison (neck) underwent neck surgery Sunday, Aug. 10, and will miss the 2025 season, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Mattison was impressing head coach Mike McDaniel with his short yardage running and more. The team guaranteed about one million dollars of his 2025 salary, so clearly they expected him to have a role in the backfield. Jaylen Wright was thwarted on multiple goal line attempts in the preseason opener, although the line did him no favors. The Dolphins have signed RBs Mike Boone and Aaron Shampklin, who join a depth chart that also includes rookie Ollie Gordon. |

Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane is still expected to see a big workload despite the additions of RBs Alexander Mattison and Ollie Gordon II, along with holdover backup RB Jaylen Wright.

Miami Dolphins RB Alexander Mattison is off to a strong start to training camp, according to head coach Mike McDaniel. McDaniel said Mattison's play will determine how he is used in the offense.
Footballguys view: Mattison is getting over $1 million guaranteed from the Dolphins, so they expect him to make the team. Jaylen Wright is probably ahead of him on the depth chart, but McDaniel's comments indicate that it might really be a committee behind De'Von Achane. |

Head coach Antonio Pierce said McCormick will get more opportunities. |

The Las Vegas Raiders have declared OG Cody Whitehair, WR Ramel Keyton, RB Alexander Mattison, DT Matthew Butler, TE Harrison Bryant, CB Nate Hobbs and RB Zamir White inactive for Week 13.
Footballguys view: With Mattison and White out, the backfield will be split between Ameer Abdullah and Sincere McCormick. The coaching staff has been talking up McCormick, so this could be a game where he gets on the radar in deep dynasty leagues. Both are desperation plays with the uncertainty about the backfield split. |

Las Vegas Raiders RB Alexander Mattison deserves more reps, and he will receive them, according to head coach Antonio Pierce.
Footballguys view: Mattison helped the Raiders gain a season-high 152 rushing yards against the Browns on Sunday. In its first three games, the team totaled just 153 yards on the ground. What a larger workload for Mattison means for starter Zamir White is unclear. White, who ran for 397 yards in the Raiders' final four games last season, was expected to be the team's workhorse this year. But White has 152 rushing yards on 49 attempts through four games, an average of 3.1 yards per carry. He also had a fumble returned for a touchdown Sunday. On the other hand, Mattison has 87 yards on 17 rushing attempts for a 5.1 yards per carry average. Rewarding Mattison with a more significant role makes sense. |
