Buccaneers | Byron Leftwich fired Thu Jan 19, 11:47 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich was fired Thursday, Jan. 19.
Footballguys view: Things change quickly around here. Leftwich was once seen as a hot head coaching candidate after 2021. He stayed with the Buccaneers, and his offense fell apart. Now, Leftwich will be looking for another job. |

Saints | Byron Leftwich of interest to New Orleans Thu Jan 27, 12:27 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich was requested to interview for the New Orleans Saints' head coaching vacancy Thursday, Jan. 27.
Footballguys view: Leftwich was supposed to be the Jaguars head coach, but things are not yet finalized so he'll keep looking elsewhere. The Saints are looking for a head coach with Sean Payton retiring, and Leftwich is the only offensive minded coach they've shown interest in so far. |

Jaguars | Jacksonville set to hire Byron Leftwich Thu Jan 27, 12:17 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is reportedly close to becoming the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Mike Jurecki of AZCardinals.com.
Footballguys view: The Jaguars are on track with Leftwich, but they need to hurry before he's hired by another team (Saints). They'll need to replace GM Trent Baalke, relieving him of his duties. Rumblings around the team indicate they could be hiring Adrian Wilson as their next general manager. If/when they hire Wilson, expect Leftwich to jump on board as their head coach. |

Jaguars | Byron Leftwich the front runner Wed Jan 26, 09:28 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has emerged as the front runner for the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coaching vacancy, according to sources. The team hasn't offered him the job, but they are expected to hire him.
Footballguys view: At least they're not going with Bill O'Brien. The Jaguars have talent, and they have a potential franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence. Leftwich, a former first-round quarterback himself, would know how to get the best from Lawrence which is paramount for any coach they hire. |

Bears | Byron Leftwich to meet with Bears Tue Jan 18, 12:06 PM

Footballguys view: Leftwich has done a great job as a coach with the Cardinals and the Buccaneers. The Bears need to find a coach who can get the most out of QB Justin Fields. Leftwich, a former first-round quarterback himself, would be a boost for Fields in his second year. |

Jaguars | Two interviewing for Jaguars Fri Jan 7, 11:35 AM
Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich will interview via Zoom for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position Friday, Jan. 7.
Footballguys view: The Jaguars are getting the drop on the rest of the NFL teams that will be in the market for a head coach this offseason by firing their coach in-season. Both Moore and Leftwich fit the league trend towards young, offense-oriented head coaches, and both have had great success in recent years. Leftwich was also once the franchise quarterback for the Jaguars, so he would be a natural fit. |

Cardinals | Byron Leftwich given high praise Tue Jan 31, 03:34 PM
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians believes new quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich will be a head coach in the NFL someday. Arians added that he had tried to recruit Leftwich into coaching since Leftwich retired.
Footballguys view: Leftwich was known for his toughness and competitiveness as a player, so anyone he coaches should respond to that. He was also fearless in the pocket, always willing take a hit to deliver the ball, so his style meshes well with Arians' vertical passing philosophy. |

The Pittsburgh Steelers have declared DL Alameda Ta'amu, QB Byron Leftwich, CB Curtis Brown, WR David Gilreath, CB Justin King, DL Loni Fangupo, LB Marshall McFadden inactive for Week 17.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that QB Charlie Batch will start in Week 12. Batch has a 5-2 record in subbing for Ben Roethlisberger (ribs) through the years.

Steelers | Byron Leftwich injury update Mon Nov 19, 09:21 AM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (shoulder, rib) suffered shoulder and rib injuries in Week 11. 'He sustained some hits, but that's football, particularly when you're talking about this matchup,' head coach Mike Tomlin said. 'He did a nice job of communicating where he was.' Some of Leftwich's teammates recalled that he kept telling everyone he was fine, and Leftwich himself repeated 'I'm OK' four times to reporters after the game.
Footballguys view: It's unusual the Steelers used Leftwich on rollouts against the Ravens on Sunday night. He's one of the most immobile QBs in the league and not that accurate on the run. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (rib) was tended to by the medical staff on the sidelined in the fourth quarter of the Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He did account for the team's only touchdown when he scored on a 31-yard scamper in the first quarter.

Steelers | Offense will have subtle changes Thu Nov 15, 03:38 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the offense will have subtle changes with QB Byron Leftwich starting Week 11. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley said the offense will adapt to Leftwich's strengths.
Footballguys view: We think the team will have fewer short routes because of Leftwich's elongated throwing motion. The team should also feature the ground game more without Ben Roethlisberger in the lineup. |

Steelers | Is Byron Leftwich a good fit? Wed Nov 14, 10:36 AM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich does not appear to be a good fit for offensive coordinator Todd Haley's scheme. The system relies on short and quick passes, while Leftwich is someone who doesn't get rid of the ball quickly. The team is confident, however, that the offense won't have to change with Leftwich starting.
Footballguys view: Quick screens and short passes don't work as well with a QB that has an elongated motion like Leftwich. His throwing motion takes so long you could time it with a sun dial. We'll see more of an emphasis on the ground game going forward while Roethlisberger is out. |

Steelers | More on Ben Roethlisberger Tue Nov 13, 04:05 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is dealing with a sternoclavicular sprain in his shoulder, which is an uncommon and painful injury. It's the same injury that forced former QB Brett Favre to end his streak of 297 straight games played. A sternoclavicular sprain involves ligament damage to the joint connecting the breastbone and collarbone, and normal recovery time is typically three weeks to multiple months.
Footballguys view: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said QB Byron Leftwich will receive the majority of snaps in practice this week. We expect Leftwich to start against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11. |
