Chiefs | Chad Henne retires    Mon Feb 13, 10:52 AM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Chad Henne retired Monday, Feb. 13.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick out of Michigan in the 2008 NFL draft, Henne had plenty of starting experience from his days with the Dolphins. For the last five seasons, Henne has been locked in as a backup to Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Chad Henne completed five-of-seven passes for 23 yards and a touchdown in relief of an injured Patrick Mahomes in the divisional-round playoff win against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Henne was cool, calm, and collected when he was thrust into action against the Jaguars. The team relied on the offensive line to blast open holes, and they ran the ball for over 60 yards on the 98-yard touchdown drive when Henne was out there.

Chiefs | Kansas City advances to championship game    Sun Jan 17, 06:31 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (concussion) went 21-for-30 for 255 yards and one touchdown against the Cleveland Browns in the Divisional Round playoff game before leaving with a concussion. He also rushed for 14 yards and one touchdown on three carries. QB Chad Henne went 6-for-8 for 66 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception in relief. RB Darrel Williams rushed for 78 yards on 13 carries. WR Tyreek Hill caught eight passes for 110 yards on 10 targets, TE Travis Kelce caught eight passes for 109 yards and one touchdown on 11 targets and WR Mecole Hardman caught four passes for 58 yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs had to win this game to advance without superstar QB Patrick Mahomes to finish the game as he was concussed. Some bold plays by veteran backup QB Chad Henne helped the Chiefs get the win. They iced the game with a fourth-down pass play to WR Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs will see if Mahomes can get through the concussion protocol next week as they prepare to face the Bills at home in the AFC Championship Game.

Free-agent QB Chad Henne (Chiefs) is a player the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in re-signing, according to a source.

Dolphins | Miami interested in Chad Henne    Wed Mar 14, 06:20 PM

The Miami Dolphins are interested in free-agent backup QB Chad Henne (Jaguars).

Footballguys view: With the free agency frenzy winding down, it's time for the backup QBs to get theirs. Henne is a veteran backup, but teams could find better options. Miami clearly wants an upgrade over Matt Moore behind starter Ryan Tannehill. We expect the Dolphins to also select a QB with a premium pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Jaguars | Jacksonville not ready to name starting QB    Thu Aug 24, 11:30 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Chad Henne and Blake Bortles could play in the final preseason game, according to head coach Doug Marrone. Marrone said he has no timetable for naming a starting quarterback.

Footballguys view: There's no way to spin this as good news for the Jaguars. If Chad Henne is an upgrade at quarterback then we were already looking at one of the worst offenses in the league.

Jaguars | Chad Henne to start Thursday    Wed Aug 23, 07:13 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne will be the starting quarterback for the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Aug. 24. QB Blake Bortles is also expected to receive some playing time with the first-team offense during the game.

Footballguys view: Henne is competing with Bortles for the starting job. No matter who wins, there's not a lot of fantasy value to be mined from either player. The Jaguars want to run the ball more this year, but they need rookie (and potential superstar) RB Leonard Fournette to be healthy.

Jaguars | Jacksonville QBs share snaps    Mon Aug 21, 07:01 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Blake Bortles and Chad Henne received an equal amount of snaps with the first-team offense during practice Monday, Aug. 21.

Footballguys view: We feel like Jaguars fans need something to smile about when considering their two options at quarterback. Head coach Doug Marrone is not ready to name a starter for the third preseason game and wants to see them practice Tuesday, Aug. 22, before making a decision.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles not a lock to start    Thu Aug 17, 11:50 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said QB Blake Bortles has to earn the starting quarterback job and indicated QB Chad Henne has a chance to take the job. Marrone said he is looking for the best person to lead the offense.

Footballguys view: That Marrone is saying this after two preseason games is a sign that Bortles is in trouble. Henne is looking like the Week 1 starter unless Bortles turns this around.

Jaguars | Chad Henne is No. 2 QB    Wed Aug 2, 10:00 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne is the team's No. 2 quarterback and will not compete with QB Brandon Allen for the job even though Allen has performed well so far during training camp.

Footballguys view: That might be the case while the team is still mathematically alive for the playoffs, but if the season is lost at any point, they might throw Allen out there to see what they have before deciding whether to invest big in a young quarterback in 2018 - assuming Blake Bortles is a reason the season was lost.

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent QB Chad Henne said he is open to re-signing with the Jaguars this offseason but may want to see if there opportunities for him to compete for a starting job with another team.

Footballguys view: We can't imagine other teams lined up around the block for Henne. If the Jaguars want a veteran backup behind Blake Bortles, then they could decide to just keep Henne.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles enters game    Sun Sep 21, 02:45 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles entered the team's Week 3 game in the second half after QB Chad Henne was benched.

Jaguars | Chad Henne still the starter    Mon Sep 15, 01:48 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne is still the starting quarterback for now, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: And here we see the stubbornness of Bradley. Henne is a poor starter, and he quite frankly doesn't give the team the best chance to win. Blake Bortles was drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, and he's the QB of the future. Might as well start playing him now to give him valuable experience.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was not considered to play in Week 2 as QB Chad Henne was sacked 10 times in the game. However, head coach Gus Bradley wouldn't comment on whether they will consider starting Bortles in Week 3.

Footballguys view: What are they waiting for? Yes, we know--the team really WANTS to keep him on the bench his rookie year for, um, development purposes (?). The fact of the matter is that Henne is a poor starter, and Bortles could be gaining valuable experience this year. We'll see if the change is made in the near future.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne will start the Week 1 game ahead of rookie QB Blake Bortles, head coach Gus Bradley said Friday, Aug. 22.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have been very clear about their QB situation. Henne will begin the season as the starter, even though Bortles has been impressing in camp and the preseason. At some point this year, we think Bortles will get a chance as the top quarterback.

Jaguars | Chad Henne to start Week 1    Fri Aug 15, 02:56 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne will start in the team's Week 1 game, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: Rookie first-round pick Blake Bortles has been impressing during the preseason, but the team is steadfast that he'll begin the season on the bench. Henne is a seasoned vet, but we don't think he can hold off Bortles all season long. If (when) Jacksonville struggles, the team could turn things over to Bortles.
