Buccaneers | Work out two QBs Tue Nov 5, 05:13 PM
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers worked out free-agent QBs Graham Harrell (Jets) and Mike Kafka (Eagles) Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Footballguys view: The Buccaneers are just updating their emergency list here. They are set at the quarterback position with Mike Glennon as the starter and Dan Orlovsky as his primary backup. |

Jets | Brady Quinn signed Mon Sep 2, 01:06 PM
The New York Jets have signed free-agent QB Brady Quinn (Seahawks). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: In a corresponding move, the team released QB Graham Harrell. Quinn gives the team quality veteran depth behind starter Geno Smith. His addition makes some around the franchise think the shoulder injury to Mark Sanchez is worse than originally feared. |

Jets | Graham Harrell agrees Wed Aug 28, 12:58 AM
The New York Jets agreed to terms with free-agent QB Graham Harrell (Packers) Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to a source. Harrell is expected to report to the team Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: It's a bit of an odd move considering we're in the time when teams have to cut their rosters to 53 players. Harrell is going to be behind Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez, Greg McElory and Matt Simms on the depth chart. |

Cowboys | Not interested in Graham Harrell Sat Aug 24, 06:12 PM
The Dallas Cowboys are not interested in signing free-agent QB Graham Harrell (Packers).

Packers | Not expected to keep three QBs Fri Aug 23, 05:08 PM
The Green Bay Packers likely will not keep three quarterbacks on their final roster and likely will have to decide whether to keep QB Graham Harrell or QB Vince Young. Some in the organization believe the team needs a better backup quarterback than Harrell.
Footballguys view: Young actually gives the team a better chance to win if he was pressed into action in a key game. He is a talented quarterback who was sidelined more by his emotional shortcomings than his play on the field. |

Packers | Backup QBs get work Tue Aug 20, 06:51 PM
With Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (illness) out Tuesday, Aug. 20, QBs Graham Harrell and Vince Young rotated in taking snaps with the first-team offense. Harrell is further ahead and is the favorite to win the backup job, and the preseason game Friday, Aug. 23, will determine if he locks down the job. Both quarterbacks have had their ups and downs in camp.
Footballguys view: Young has the stronger arm but Harrell has the experience in the system. We won't have any clarity on the backup QB situation until the end of the preseason. |

Packers | All four QBs will play in preseason game Thu Aug 8, 02:22 PM
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said QBs Aaron Rodgers, Vince Young, Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman will all see playing time during the first preseason game.
Footballguys view: We may not see much from Rodgers in their first preseason game. However, we should see more of the backups because they need to get work and establish pecking order. Young has a good chance to win the backup job behind Rodgers as Harrell and Coleman have struggled to make a positive impression. |

Packers | B.J. Coleman throws two picks at practice Sun Aug 4, 11:29 AM
Green Bay Packers QB B.J. Coleman threw two interceptions during practice Saturday, Aug. 3, with one of the interceptions being returned for a touchdown.

Packers | Will have competition for No. 2 QB job Sat Jul 20, 11:15 AM
Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo said the team will give QBs Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman even reps during training camp and allow them to compete for the No. 2 quarterback job.
Footballguys view: Harrell offers little as an emergency starter. His arm is weak and he struggles with decision making under pressure. Coleman has a rocket arm and can run play fakes effectively. We like Coleman's ability to quickly diagnose coverage but he needs to stop forcing passes. Harrell has more experience as Coleman is entering his second year. |

Packers | B.J. Coleman not pushing for No. 2 QB job Thu Jun 6, 02:13 PM
Green Bay Packers QB B.J. Coleman does not appear to have done anything this offseason to push QB Graham Harrell for the No. 2 quarterback job.
Footballguys view: This contradicts an earlier report out of Packers minicamp. Coleman has a rocket arm but needs to make better decisions as a passer or he may end up on the practice squad again this year. Harrell is a poor backup QB and it would be a major blow for the Packers if Aaron Rodgers missed even a little time due to injury. |

Packers | B.J. Coleman could push for No. 2 QB job Mon May 13, 03:03 PM
Green Bay Packers QB B.J. Coleman could compete with QB Graham Harrell for the No. 2 quarterback job during offseason workouts and training camp.
Footballguys view: Coleman has much better arm strength than Harrell does. He also has looked much improved in minicamp this year compared to last. The Packers are known for developing QBs (Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselbeck, Aaron Brooks, Matt Flynn) so dynasty owners need to have Coleman on their radar. |

Packers | Coleman showing better command of the offense Sun May 12, 09:15 PM
Packers second-year QB B.J. Coleman is showing better command of the offense this year in rookie minicamp. He'll push veteran Graham Harrell to be the primary backup behind Aaron Rodgers in 2013.
Footballguys view: Coleman has a stronger arm that Harrell and isn't afraid to challenge a defense vertically. The former Tennessee-Chattanooga (Tennessee transfer) QB knows how to execute play fakes effectively and stays confident after a poor pass. With Green Bay's history of developing young QBs dynasty owners need to monitor his progress. |

Packers | Graham Harrell could face competition for No. 2 QB job Fri May 3, 02:03 PM
Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell is expected to compete with QB B.J. Coleman and possibly QB Matt Brown for the No. 2 quarterback job this offseason.
Footballguys view: Harrell is one of the most questionable backups in the league today. He lacks the arm strength and decision making skills to be an effective starter. It's a risk for the Packers to have him as the primary backup behind Aaron Rodgers. Coleman is likely to the biggest threat to challenge Harrell for the backup job. He's got a big arm, can run good play fakes, and loves to challenge defenses vertically. |

Packers | Interested in Mike Kafka? Sun Sep 2, 10:48 PM
Reports have linked the Green Bay Packers and free-agent QB Mike Kafka (Eagles), although if Kafka is added he is not expected to supplant QB Graham Harrell as the primary backup to QB Aaron Rodgers.
Footballguys view: The Packers have one of the worst backup QB situations in the league. Yes, Harrell looked okay in the team's fourth preseason game but we're not confident he would carry that over if pressed into regular season action. Green Bay will continue to look for a better backup behind Aaron Rodgers. |

Packers | Graham Harrell gets praise Fri Aug 17, 05:10 PM
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says QB Graham Harrell has grown as a quarterback and is getting a full dose of what it is like to play in the NFL.

Packers | Graham Harrell struggles Fri Aug 17, 02:37 AM
Green Bay Packers backup QB Graham Harrell is trying to prove he can handle the No. 2 quarterback role. However, he struggled against the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Aug. 16. He hit 12 of 24 passes for 100 yards, but he was intercepted twice. One of his interceptions was returned for a touchdown. He was also called for a safety when he was flagged for an intentional grounding in the end zone during the fourth quarter.
Footballguys view: The Packers could see Super Bowl dreams fizzle if they are forced to turn to Harrell. General manager Ted Thompson has to be considering a trade for Colt McCoy, who he got to see up close and personal last night. |

Packers | Graham Harrell to get extension time in preseason game Thu Aug 16, 03:43 PM
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said QB Graham Harrell will receive significant playing time during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 16, because he has not had a lot of experience playing in games during his career.
Footballguys view: Harrell is a big question mark for the team at the reserve QB position. He's been in the system for a few years, but doesn't have a strong skill set. Harrell has a weak arm, has been known to throw off his back foot too often, and is really disrupted by pressure. |

Packers | Could look for veteran QB Wed Jul 11, 04:45 PM
The Green Bay Packers could look to add a veteran quarterback if QB Graham Harrell struggles as the No. 2 quarterback during training camp and the preseason.
Footballguys view: Harrell is inexperienced, lacks arm strength, and needs to work on his decision making. It's very risky for the Packers to have Harrell as their backup QB and this is why we think they may be in the running to trade the Browns for QB Colt McCoy. |

Packers | Destination for Colt McCoy? Mon Jun 18, 10:52 AM
The Green Bay Packers seem to make the most sense as a trade destination for Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy. The Packers currently have QBs Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman behind starting QB Aaron Rodgers.

Packers | Graham Harrell appears to be lock for backup QB job Sun Jun 17, 08:41 PM
All signs point to the Green Bay Packers using QB Graham Harrell as their backup to starter QB Aaron Rodgers. Harrell has spent the past two seasons on the team's 53-man roster or practice squad, and he has went through a full offseason in head coach Mike McCarthy's quarterback school, which emphasizes improving strength and skill.
Footballguys view: We're not fans of Harrell's game. His arm is extremely weak and he has trouble throwing with proper velocity on passes over 10 yards. We feel the Packers could be in the market for Browns QB Colt McCoy if the price is right. |

Packers | Graham Harrell looks to be primary backup Wed Jun 13, 01:57 AM
Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell has shown decent velocity on his throws during workouts, and it appears he is in line to serve as the primary backup to QB Aaron Rodgers. There has been no indication the team plans to consider other alternatives to serve in the No. 2 role. '(Harrell's) on track to be a darn good quarterback,' quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo said Tuesday, June 12.
Footballguys view: The Packers were reportedly looking at Tim Tebow, so they could pounce on a team's final cut at quarterback if they aren't satisfied with Harrell. |

Browns | Could eventually trade QB McCoy? Tue Jun 5, 06:58 PM
Nate Ulrich, from the Akron Beacon-Journal, reports that he wouldn't be surprised if the Browns traded QB Colt McCoy. As the incumbent starter his presence could prove to be a distraction to first-round pick Brandon Weeden. If they deal McCoy Cleveland would still have veteran Seneca Wallace as a veteran backup.
Footballguys view: McCoy could make some sense for a team looking for an experienced backup QB. We could see the Packers having interest as their current backup Graham Harrell has performed poorly with preseason opportunities. McCoy is young (25) and only makes $540k this year. |

Packers | Graham Harrell expected to win No. 2 QB job Mon Apr 30, 03:55 PM
Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell are expected to beat out QBs B.J. Coleman and Nick Hill for the primary backup quarterback position.
Footballguys view: This is a shaky move for the Packers. Harrell hasn't looked good in the preseason and doesn't have a skill set like former backup Matt Flynn does. His weak arm can be easily exposed and he has a tendency to lock onto primary targets. Hopefully rookie B.J. Coleman can get up to speed quickly. |

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said the team will not be looking to sign a veteran quarterback to backup QB Aaron Rodgers. McCarthy said QBs Graham Harrell, Nick Hill and B.J. Coleman likely will be competing for two jobs.
Footballguys view: We love the addition of Coleman in the seventh-round. He's big, tall, has a strong arm, and sets up quickly in the pocket. Coleman looks like Peyton Manning when he runs a play fake but needs to work on his accuracy and consistency. |

Packers | GM fine with back QB situation Fri Apr 20, 05:47 PM
Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson said he is fine with having QBs Graham Harrell and Nick Hill as the backup quarterbacks on the roster.
Footballguys view: We feel this is a very dangerous situation for the Packers. In previous years they've had one of the best backup situations in the league with Matt Flynn behind Aaron Rodgers. Harrell is not Flynn and would struggle if forced into the starting lineup. Don't be surprised if the Packers address the backup QB position in the 2012 NFL Draft. |

Packers | Matt Flynn entering final year of deal Tue Jul 26, 06:58 PM
Green Bay Packers backup QB Matt Flynn is entering the final year of his contract with the team, but the Packers have little interest in trading him. 'I'm not letting him go,' head coach Mike McCarthy said, noting he feels a team needs two quarterbacks if you want to win in the NFL. Flynn is expected to serve as the team's No. 2 behind Aaron Rodgers again this season, while unproven Graham Harrell, for now, returns as the team's No. 3.

Packers | Better to keep backup QB Flynn? Mon May 30, 02:19 PM
Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, believes it's better for the Packers to keep backup QB Matt Flynn this year. There has been thoughts the Packers could trade the talented reserve quarterback. Williamson thinks with Aaron Rodgers injury history the team would be best served to hold onto Flynn and make a run at another Super Bowl title.
Footballguys view: The Packers don't need more pieces to be an elite team. They have plenty of talent to go along with quality depth at most positions. Rodgers has been banged up a little the last two years, so the team is wise to keep Flynn. Third-stringer Graham Harrell would struggle mightily if asked to take over as a spot starter. |

Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell could become the team's No. 2 quarterback next season if the team decides to trade QB Matt Flynn once there is a new collective bargaining agreement, reports Rob Demovsky, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Footballguys view: Bad news for the Packers if that's the best they can do at backup quarterback. Harrell put up phenomenal stats in college at Texas Tech, but his arm is weak and he has trouble going through his progressions quickly. We feel if they trade away Matt Flynn they would be in the market for a better backup.
