Football Team | QB Fitzpatrick Says Offense Will Be 'Tough To Defend'    Mon Jul 12, 01:07 PM

JP Finlay, from NBC Sports Washington, reports how Washington QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is looking forward to spreading the ball around the field in 2021. "The biggest thing with his offense, is we're able to spread the ball around to everybody and get everybody involved. It's going to be a tough offense to defend just because of all the pieces we have." Fitzpatrick said.

Footballguys view: Washington has a ton of weapons in the passing attack, and Fitzpatrick is ready to attack a defense at all levels of the field. He's the perfect type of quarterback to take advantage of the spread formation and the collection of receivers. Add in RB Antonio Gibson, a talented pass-catcher and reliable runner, and you can see how Washington can put up points. Fantasy GMs want a piece of this offense with guys like Gibson and WR Terry McLaurin as two top targets at their respective positions.

Football Team | Precision part of Ryan Fitzpatrick's game in 2020    Wed Jun 30, 02:34 PM

Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was on target on 79.9 percent of his pass attempts last season as a member of the Miami Dolphins, according to Pro Football Reference. His on-target rate ranked sixth in the league among quarterbacks with at least 100 pass attempts.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has taken his talents from South Beach to our nation's capitol. With Washington, Fitzpatrick's precision is going to be highlighted as well with some fine weapons around him. He's a streamer for Fantasy GMs who can fill in (likely admirably) when your regular starter is on a bye. You can get him late in your drafts with a current ADP of QB26 (14.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Football Team | Ryan Fitzpatrick for long haul?    Fri Jun 18, 01:53 PM

Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick could be a longer-term solution, according to head coach Ron Rivera. 'There's nothing that says Ryan Fitzpatrick can't be the guy for a while,' Rivera recently told the Washington Post.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick hasn't shown signs of decline in his play, but he is a risk-taker who could frustrate Rivera if he commits too many unforced errors. Taylor Heinecke has had a good spring, and he could present an attractive option if Fitzpatrick turns into a pumpkin.

Football Team | Ryan Fitzpatrick to open camp as starter    Thu Apr 1, 05:30 PM

Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will open training camp as the starting quarterback but will have to compete for the job during the preseason, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: That's the move that was expected when the team added Fitzpatrick in free agency. However, they will compete for the starting job and we expect the veteran to win the job....and then potentially lose the job like he has most other places he's landed. Fitzpatrick can be exciting when he's hot, but things can turn ice cold with him in a hurry.

Football Team | Ryan Fitzpatrick packing his bags for Washington    Mon Mar 15, 11:09 PM

Impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Dolphins) reportedly agreed to terms to a one-year contract worth $10 million that could be worth as much as $12 million with incentives with the Washington Football Team on Monday, March 15.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick will enter the season as the starter. He'll be pushed for the job by Taylor Heinicke but should be able to hold the youngster off. Washington was willing to give Fitzpatrick what he wanted as most teams look at him as a 'bridge' quarterback to a younger player.

Dolphins | Situation fluid with Ryan Fitzpatrick    Thu Mar 11, 01:50 PM

Miami Dolphins QB and pending free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick's future remains up in the air, but he's still a favorite of Dolphins head coach Brian Flores. 'We'd love to have him back, but this is a very unique year from the cap standpoint,' Flores said. 'Those conversations are fluid.'

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has thought about retirement but the latest is that he's looking to play in 2021. That means another team besides the Dolphins is likely to sign him as a 'bridge' quarterback. The Broncos have already reached out to Fitzpatrick to gauge his interest.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick plans to continue career    Mon Mar 8, 02:54 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick plans to play next season.

Footballguys view: This goes against an earlier report from John Clayton saying Fitzpatrick was leaning towards retirement. It certainly looked like Fitzpatrick had more to offer last season. Some team in need of veteran depth (Broncos?) could add him to the roster.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick leaning towards retirement    Sun Mar 7, 11:20 AM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick appears to be leaning retirement, according to 104.3 The Fan's John Clayton.

Footballguys view: The Broncos have contacted Fitzpatrick as they are looking for veteran competition for Drew Lock in training camp. According to Clayton, Fitzpatrick is leaning towards hanging up his cleats. Things could change, but at this time it seems like Denver (and other teams in need of veteran quarterback help) will have to look elsewhere.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick unlikely to return    Fri Feb 26, 03:37 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is not expected to re-sign with the Dolphins because he believes he can at least compete for a starting job with a team next season, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Fitzpatrick is meant to wander the nation in search of a team who needs a veteran and potential starter. The Broncos have already talked to Fitzpatrick and they could be looking for a guy like him to push last year's starter Drew Lock.

Broncos | Denver talking to Ryan Fitzpatrick    Fri Feb 26, 01:07 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, an unrestricted free agent this offseason, still believes he can bed a successful starter and has spoken recently with the Denver Broncos, according to a report.

Footballguys view: The Broncos are going to bring in competition for QB Drew Lock. That's if they don't do the impossible and trade for Texans QB Deshaun Watson. Fitzpatrick has played for about half the teams in the league, and he'd expand that list if added by the Broncos for the first time.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick hopes to play in 2021    Wed Feb 3, 02:18 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said he would like to play next season.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick unlikely to return?    Thu Jan 7, 07:58 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's chances of returning to the team next season are 'slim and none,' according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick will be on to spread his magic somewhere else in 2021. Plenty of teams will want him as a 'bridge' quarterback to a future starter.

  Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick non-committal about 2021    Mon Jan 4, 11:28 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who will be among the team's unrestricted free agents this offseason, is likely to be asked to return. However, the 38-year-old has been non-committal about whether he wants to play in the 2021 season.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick will have a few suitors if he chooses to play in 2021. He can still be a good starter or a 'bridge' quarterback for a team with a young quarterback who is not yet ready.

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (illness) has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, Dec. 31, and will miss the team's regular-season finale Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is the team's 'closer' at the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa is the starter but when things get tight near the end of the game, the Dolphins have used Fitzpatrick instead. This week against the Bills, Tagovailoa is going to get a full workload.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick throws two touchdowns    Sun Nov 29, 04:15 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 24-for-39 for 257 yards and two touchdowns against the New York Jets in Week 12.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was efficient enough against the poor Jets defense and he brought Devante Parker's fantasy value back to life. He could start next week against the Bengals and would slot in as a high floor streamer or QB2/Superflex.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick likely to start    Sat Nov 28, 01:58 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely to start Sunday, Nov. 29, in the Week 12 game against the New York Jets after QB Tua Tagovailoa (thumb) was downgraded to doubtful Saturday.

Footballguys view: This is an upgrade for the whole Dolphins offense, but especially DeVante Parker and Mike Gesicki. We'll see if Fitzpatrick holds onto the job next week against the Bengals now that Miami has an excuse to keep him in.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick trade unlikely    Tue Oct 27, 08:35 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't being shopped for a trade, according to a source with direct knowledge Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick could certainly help some teams out there. The Dolphins have named rookie first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa as their starter even though they were playing well with Fitzpatrick under center. He'll work as a valuable veteran backup who can help guide the rookie.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick relegated to bench    Tue Oct 20, 11:37 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be replaced as starter after the Week 7 bye by QB Tua Tagovailoa.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick to start Week 5    Tue Oct 6, 09:43 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was confirmed the starter for Week 5 by head coach Brian Flores.

Footballguys view: We're all waiting for Fitzpatrick to get benched. The Dolphins have 2020 first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa as a potential franchise quarterback and he'll be starting for them eventually. Fitzpatrick is doing his usual hot-and-cold routine and is only a bridge quarterback until the Dolphins deem Tagovailoa ready.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 18 of 20 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns during the team's Week 3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fitzpatrick also ran seven times for 38 yards and a score.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was nearly flawless as a passer and showed great toughness as a runner. He executed the playcalls in Chan Gailey's offensive scheme like the veteran he is and should be considered as a streamer against the Seahawks next week.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick goes over 300 yards    Sun Sep 20, 05:43 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 31-of-47 passes for 328 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills and he ran for 12 yards.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick bounced back with a good performance against a tough defense and if Preston Williams hadn't dropped a 4th and goal pass he would have had a chance to win this one. He'll face the Jags on Thursday night and should be considered as a streaming quarterback.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick remains the starter    Mon Sep 14, 02:03 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was named the starting quarterback by head coach Brian Flores for Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills on Monday, Sept. 14.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was flat out awful in the season opener against the Patriots. He threw three picks and couldn't get the offense into a rhythm. The veteran is just a bridge quarterback to 2020 first-round quarterback Tua Tagovailoa...and that bridge might be a shorter period of time than some originally anticipated. Stay tuned.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick struggles in opener    Sun Sep 13, 04:19 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 20-for-30 for 191 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions against the New England Patriots in Week 1.

Footballguys view: There was no Fitzmagic today. We should continue to respect the Patriots defense, and maybe slow expectations for the Dolphins to be moving up in the AFC East power rankings. This game did nothing to slow down the arrival calendar for Tua Tagovailoa.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick to start    Mon Sep 7, 09:20 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Week 1 against the New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Tua Tagovailoa, the team's 2020 first-round pick, can be the franchise quarterback of the future but the Dolphins don't think he's ready to start just yet. We should see Tagovailoa take over as the starter at some point this season.

Dolphins | Tua Tagovailoa not a lock to be the backup?    Mon Aug 24, 12:28 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is in a competition for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Ryan Fitzpatrick with Josh Rosen, and the 'chances are greater' that Rosen will begin the season in that role unless Tagovailoa 'suddenly starts doing some magical things he hasn't shown yet,' in the opinion of the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

Footballguys view: Tagovailoa is supposed to be the franchise quarterback that the Dolphins have been searching for since the days of Dan Marino. Rosen is a former first-round pick who is on his second team in only a couple of years. Behind the scenes with the Dolphins last year, Rosen was known as a hard worker but when he stepped onto the field to start in 2019 it was met with disastrous results. Tagovailoa should have no problem beating out Rosen but it sounds like that's not a done deal just yet.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick to return Saturday    Sat Aug 22, 12:39 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (personal) will return to practice Saturday, Aug. 22, according to head coach Brian Flores.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick out Friday    Fri Aug 21, 09:46 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (personal) is out of practice Friday, Aug. 21, and the team wouldn't comment on why he was gone or when he would return.

Footballguys view: Watch to see if the Dolphins sign Jake Rudock, who they had in for a tryout. If they do, it's possible Fitzpatrick's absence will stretch through most or all of the remainder of camp. Fitzpatrick has a lot of experience with new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, so he should be ready to roll as soon as he returns even without practice time.

  Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick: I'm a placeholder    Sat Aug 1, 02:42 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick says he fully realizes his time as the team's starter is limited with first-round draft pick Tua Tagovailoa getting a green light for workouts. 'I don't know how much time it will be before Tua will be in the lineup. I know that I am the placeholder,' Fitzpatrick said in a recent interview with ESPN. 'We've already had that conversation. I've told him, 'I'm going to do the best I can to lead this team and win football games when I'm out there.' Whenever it is that Tua gets his chance whether it's early or late or whenever, I'm going to be his biggest cheerleader.'

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick knows what's up. The veteran is there to steer the ship until rookie first-round QB Tua Tagovailoa is ready. The Dolphins are going to have a competition for the starting job in training camp and Tagovailoa has already been cleared for full participation. We could see the rookie win the job in camp and begin the regular season as the starter.

Dolphins | Miami keeping open mind at QB    Tue Jul 14, 09:40 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to open the season as the starter, but the team is reportedly 'open-minded' about playing Tua Tagovailoa and has no intention to 'redshirt' him, according to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson via a source.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick might be used to get through rough matchups against Buffalo and New England to open the season, and maybe San Francisco and Denver in Weeks 5-6, or at least until the rebuilt offensive line settles down. Tagovailoa's medical checkups and ability to stay healthy in camp will be important, but from a processor speed and maturity point of view, he's ready to start in the NFL. It's reasonable to take Tagovailoa ahead of Fitzpatrick in 2QB/Superflex leagues.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick open to starting or mentoring    Tue May 19, 03:51 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick recently said on the 'What's Next with Eric Wood' podcast he's looking forward to mentoring rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa in 2020. 'I'm really excited, I'm really excited that they drafted him,' Fitzpatrick said. 'I'm excited because I watched him play at Alabama and he seems like he's a pretty dynamic talent. For me, I'm his biggest cheerleader right now. ... Hopefully, some of the lessons I'm able to teach him are him watching me play, but if it's the other way around, I'm going to do my best to help him to succeed in the best way that he can,' Fitzpatrick said.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick should begin the season as the starter. The Dolphins have an improved roster and could win more games than some think with the veteran at the helm. Depending on Tagovailoa's health, the Dolphins may have Fitzpatrick as their starter for most of the season. There's a chance the team gives the 2020 first-round pick a redshirt year. If the team struggles with Fitzpatrick, and Tagovailoa is healthy, then they could turn things over to the rookie.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick posted an 89.8 QBR in the red zone in 2019 - good for third among NFL quarterbacks - according to ESPN's Matt Bowen.

Footballguys view: We'll see how long Fitzpatrick can stay the starter for the Dolphins. They selected potential franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft and he could take over for Fitzpatrick at some point this season. In fact, there's a chance that Tagovailoa wins the starting job for the Dolphins in training camp.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was hit while passing a league-high 66 times last season - tied with New York Giants QB Daniel Jones for the most in the NFL.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are working on upgrading the offense as a whole, including the offensive line. They will have Fitzpatrick as a starting option but the team should also add a quarterback in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. Someone like Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) should be starting for them in the near future.

Dolphins | Week 17 final stats for Dolphins    Sun Dec 29, 04:11 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 28-of-41 passes for 320 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions while running for 15 yards and a score in a stunning Week 17 road upset of the New England Patriots. RB Patrick Laird was the leading rusher with just 21 yards on 11 carries, while WR DeVante Parker led the way with a game-high 137 receiving yards on eight catches for 11 targets. WR Isaiah Ford managed seven grabs for 54 yards on nine targets, WR Albert Wilson was good for five catches for 59 yards on eight targets and TE Mike Gesicki posted a touchdown while totaling 34 yards on four receptions. CB Eric Rowe also had a 35-yard interception for touchdown.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick created fantasy value in the most improbable place this year, and helped both Parker and Gesicki arrive in fantasy leagues. The Dolphins 2020 quarterback situation is up in the air, but both Parker and Gesicki will be drafted and Parker could be as high as a WR2 after this performance against Stephon Gilmore punctuated his breakout season.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (shoulder) will get the start in Week 17 on Sunday, Dec. 29, as the quarterback who gives the team 'the best chance to win,' head coach Brian Flores said Thursday, Dec. 26.

Footballguys view: That's what Fitzpatrick does...he wins on bad teams. The Dolphins are likely to select their quarterback of the future in the 2020 NFL draft, and their draft position has been altered by the number of wins Fitzpatrick has led them to this season. Who in the world knows what's going to happen to backup (and 2018 first-round pick) Josh Rosen in the future but he's clearly no long-term solution.
