NFL | Duckett looking to play again Thu Sep 24, 11:42 AM
Brian VanOchten, of The Grand Rapids Press, reports unrestricted free-agent RB T.J. Duckett (Seahawks) said he is in game shape and hopes to play for a team this season.
Footballguys view: Duckett is an average talent in the NFL, and will have to wait until a team gets desperate at the running back position before he is signed. |

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the New York Giants worked out free-agent RBs Dominic Rhodes (Bills) and T.J. Duckett (Seahawks) Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Footballguys view: The Giants are not content to rest on their laurels, and will leave no stone unturned in their search for running back help. They signed rookie Gartrell Johnson to their active squad yesterday, and have also looked at veteran Lorenzo Booker. |

Dave Boling, of The News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks RB T.J. Duckett has received a bigger workload thus far in training camp and his role should expand this season. Duckett's role was limited to short-yardage and goal-line situations last season.
Footballguys view: We don't trust Duckett to raise his level of play, but we don't exactly trust Julius Jones to hold down the starting job either. Bottom line - remember the name Justin Forsett. |

Eric Williams, of the Tacoma News-Tribune, reports that Seahawks GM said at his press conference that "what we have is running back by committee. I believe what the coaches are saying is that Julius [Jones] will get the bulk of the carries, but those other guys have their roles as well." Ruskell also said the team is pleasantly surprised at how well Justin Forsett has done in the zone blocking scheme, and that undrafted free agent back Devin Moore is fast and has taken to the one-step-and-go concept.
Footballguys view: We won't blame you if you take Jones in the 8th-10th round of your draft. It seems like a great value for a starting running back. Just make sure you trade him when he gets hot, because we don't trust him to do it all year. Look at his game logs from last year if you don't believe us. |

Eric Williams, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks RB T.J. Duckett said during a radio interview that he would like to receive more carries this season. 'I would love to have more carries,' Duckett said. 'I'm not just wanting to settle with being a short-yardage back just because of my size. So yeah, definitely, mentally I'm ready to compete for that.'
Footballguys view: Duckett had some of the best years of his career with head coach Jim Mora Jr. when they were both with the Falcons, and some are expecting a rejuvenation for Duckett in 2009. He scored 8 rushing TDs last year, but finished the season as the 59th best RB in fantasy football. In fact, he has never finished higher than the 21st best RB and that was back in 2003. The Seahawks RB situation is ugly, and while Julius Jones may get the most carries it will be T.J. Duckett when the team gets close to the goalline. If Jones fails to impress we could see more opportunity for Duckett and perhaps even Justin Forsett. |

Clare Farnsworth, of Seahawks.com, reports that Seattle offensive coordinator Greg Knapp prefers a rotation at running back. Knapp said, "I'm a big believer in having two, if not three, backs involved as the season goes on."
Footballguys view: Julius Jones has appeared to be a great value at his low ADP to some because he was assumed to be a starter, but this development should cap his value and make folks take a longer look at TJ Duckett as a late round pick. Justin Forsett is the deep sleeper name to remember. He's undersized, but that didn't stop him from tearing up the PAC 10 at Cal. Head coach Jim Mora specifically mentioned his belief in Forsett in addition to Jones and Duckett when asked about the running backs on the roster. |
