Las Vegas also agreed to pay him a fully guaranteed $10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 new league year.

As part of the restructure, there is now a guarantee in the amount of $67.9 million for the 2027 season that vests March 13. The restructure also included reducing his 2026 base salary from a non-guaranteed $35 million to just $2.1 million, a difference of $32.9 million. That amount equals the increase in his 2027 compensation that this amended deal includes, just split differently.

The team went three and out on four of their first five possessions and only managed a field goal on the other against a team that had allowed at least 27 points to everyone except the Jets, and they were still able to score 21. Atlanta scored 10, and the touchdown only came after the score was 34-3. Cousins is no threat to Michael Penix's job after the second year quarterback missed Week 8 due to a bone bruise on his leg. We'll monitor practice reports heading into the matchup at New England to keep you updated on who will start for Atlanta, and whether Drake London will be able to play after getting scratched at game time because of the hip injury. |

Cousins said he was aware the Falcons might draft a quarterback, but definitely not that high. He wasn't informed about the Penix pick until a phone call by offensive coordinator Zac Robinson while Atlanta was on the clock. 'Certainly, if I had the information around free agency, it certainly would've affected my decision,' Cousins said on the first episode of the season. 'I had no reason to leave Minnesota with how much we loved it there if both teams are going to be drafting a quarterback high. But I've also learned in 12 years in this league that you're not entitled to anything. It's all about being able to earn your spot and prove yourself.'
| Footballguys view: Cousins led the Falcons to a 6-3 start last season before taking a hard hit to his right arm in Week 10. The Falcons' season took a sharp downward turn beginning with that game. They eventually benched Cousins in Week 16. Penix took over and played solidly, though the team went 1-2 in those games and missed the playoffs. For now, Cousins will serve as the backup to Penix.
