Redskins | Jimmy Clausen working out for 'Skins    Mon Jul 18, 12:46 PM

Free-agent QB Jimmy Clausen (Ravens) had a workout with the Washington Redskins Monday, July 18, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Washington has an interesting couple of QBs behind starter Kirk Cousins in Colt McCoy and rookie Nate Sudfeld. The team could be looking for a camp arm or someone to push McCoy for the backup job, and that's why Clausen may have gotten a workout.

Ravens | Jimmy Clausen delivers mixed numbers    Sun Dec 20, 06:06 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Jimmy Clausen was 26 of 45 for a career-high 281 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. One of those interceptions was a pick-six, which sealed the Kansas City Chiefs' 34-14 win.

Footballguys view: Clausen continues to look like he belongs in the NFL at least as a competent backup. He had a few throws he would want back in the second half, but he kept a very undermanned Ravens offense somewhat viable through the air. He'll face the Steelers next week unless Matt Schaub is ready to go.

Ravens | Baltimore non-committal on QB    Fri Dec 18, 04:51 PM

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he isn't naming a starting quarterback for Week 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs Friday, Dec. 18, even though QB Matt Schaub (chest) is listed as probable. QB Jimmy Clausen is another option to start against the Chiefs. Clausen took at least half of practice repetitions both Wednesday, Dec. 16, and Thursday, Dec. 17, according to offensive coordinator Marc Trestman. Harbaugh said Schaub has a chance to be 100% healthy by Sunday, Dec. 20. It's highly unlikely that QB Ryan Mallett will see playing time Sunday after being signed this week.

Footballguys view: Schaub is the better starter for both the Ravens passing game options and the Chiefs D/ST fantasy prospects. We'll be watching this one Sunday morning to help break some ties on close calls.

Ravens | Jimmy Clausen starting Sunday    Sun Dec 13, 10:06 AM

Baltimore Ravens QB Jimmy Clausen will start Week 14's game against the Seattle Seahawks, as a result of QB Matt Schaub (chest) being sidelined due to a chest injury. QB Bryn Renner will serve as the Ravens' No. 2 quarterback.

Footballguys view: Seattle's D/ST might be the #1 play this week.

Ravens | Matt Schaub not expected to play    Sat Dec 12, 12:21 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest) is not expected to play in the Week 14 game against the Seattle Seahawks because of his chest injury.

Footballguys view: QB Jimmy Clausen likely will start if Schaub is ruled out. Every DFS player should try and stack the Seahawks defense with Thomas Rawls in Week 14.

Ravens | Matt Schaub questionable    Fri Dec 11, 05:11 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest) did not practice Friday, Dec. 11, but is questionable for Week 14 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: If a player doesn't practice on Friday, they usually don't play on Sunday. If Schaub doesn't play, QB Jimmy Clausen would be the starter.

Ravens | Matt Schaub not practicing    Fri Dec 11, 01:40 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest) sat out of practice again Friday, Dec. 11, making it likely that QB Jimmy Clausen starts in Week 14 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: Everyone under the sun playing DFS should have the Seahawks defense in Week 14.

Ravens | Matt Schaub not practicing    Wed Dec 9, 02:52 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (shoulder, knee) is out of practice with shoulder and knee injuries Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Ravens | Baltimore could use two QBs    Wed Dec 9, 11:18 AM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (head) is 'banged up and sore,' and head coach John Harbaugh said Schaub and QB Jimmy Clausen could play Sunday, Dec. 13. Schaub will likely be limited in practice this week.

Footballguys view: Schaub should start if he's healthy enough to play. Clausen could play if (when?) Schaub gets further banged up in the Week 14 game against the Seahawks.

Ravens | Joe Flacco placed on IR    Tue Nov 24, 04:26 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Nov. 24, with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn medial collateral ligament. Free-agent QB Jimmy Clausen (Bears) was subsequently claimed.

Footballguys view: A sad way for Flacco to end his 2015 season. The team will ease him back into action next year, and his status for the start of next season is up in the air at this time. Clausen worked with OC Marc Trestman last year when the two were with the Bears. He'll provide the team with valuable veteran depth behind new starter Matt Schaub.

Bears | Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery ruled out    Fri Sep 25, 01:03 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (shoulder) and WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) have both been ruled out for Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach John Fox. QB Jimmy Clausen will make the start.

Footballguys view: Jimmy Clausen is walking into an ambush in Seattle, so other than maybe Martellus Bennett, there's no part of the Bears passing game that you want to mess with this week. Matt Forte will be usual valiant self in a lost cause.

Bears | Jay Cutler out at least two weeks    Mon Sep 21, 05:37 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) will miss at least two weeks because of the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Jimmy Clausen will be the starting quarterback for the time being. The loss of Cutler is a downgrade for all skill position players on the Bears roster. They travel to Seattle in Week 3 to take on a hungry 0-2 Seahawks. Good luck with that.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen does little as sub    Sun Sep 20, 07:30 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen was pressed into action in the Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals with QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) leaving with a hamstring injury. Clausen completed 14 of his 23 passes for 121 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

Footballguys view: Cutler has been known to play through some injuries in the past, but he might be best off sitting against Seattle next week. Clausen makes the Bears offense very vanilla and leaves only Matt Forte as a viable option.

Bears | Jay Cutler to face open competition    Thu Mar 26, 06:20 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler will head into the offseason as the team's No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart, but head coach John Fox said there will be an 'open competition' at the quarterback spot between Cutler and QB Jimmy Clausen during training camp and offseason workouts. The current coaching staff and general manager Ryan Pace have nothing vested in Cutler, and they've made it clear that money isn't the sole driver of their decisions.

Footballguys view: This is it for Cutler. If Fox and OC Adam Gase can't get him to play better, then the Bears are likely to move on next year. We're not expecting Cutler to turn it around, but it will be interesting to see how he responds to new coaching.

Bears | Re-sign Jimmy Clausen     Fri Mar 6, 11:35 AM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen re-signed with the team, per a league source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Clausen is reunited with John Fox. In 2010, Fox was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers when they selected Clausen in the second round of the draft. Clausen struggled as a starter, and he became a backup behind Cam Newton in 2011. He bounced to the Bears in 2014, and Clausen looked decent playing in Week 16 last year against the Lions. Clausen will backup Cutler again this year...if Cutler is not moved via trade.

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen (concussion) suffered a concussion in Week 16 and has been ruled out for Week 17.

Bears | Jay Cutler benched this week    Wed Dec 17, 06:34 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler will be benched in favor of QB Jimmy Clausen in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Should anyone be surprised? Cutler has phenomenal natural talent, but even Jeff George thinks he needs to play better. Cutler is a lot like George--big arm, big attitude, gets coaches fired, and never plays up to his potential. This move could be a last-ditch desperation move by Marc Trestman so he can keep his job as the head coach. We had high hopes for Trestman when he took over in Chicago, but he's been held back by Cutler's play. Oh yeah, it didn't help the Bears extended Cutler's contract in January of 2014 either. What a mess.

Bears | Jordan Palmer released    Sun Aug 24, 06:45 PM

The Chicago Bears released QB Jordan Palmer.

Footballguys view: Marc Trestman does it again! Last year he rejuvenated the career of Josh McCown as the backup to Jay Cutler. This year, Trestman has turned Panthers bust Jimmy Clausen into a decent player. Behind Cutler, we could see Clausen actually have fantasy value in the event of an injury.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen will back up Jay Cutler Thursday    Tue Aug 12, 11:32 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen will be the backup quarterback for the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Clausen has been rejuvenated under QB guru (and Bears head coach) Marc Trestman. We'll see if he can hold off Jordan Palmer for the QB2 job at the start of the regular season.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen has strong practice     Tue Jul 29, 12:17 AM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen was accurate with his throws during practice Monday, July 28, and he led a touchdown drive during a two-minute drill. Larry Mayer of ChicagoBears.com believes Clausen is 'very much' in the mix for the backup QB job.

Footballguys view: Clausen may be emerging here as the primary backup behind Jay Cutler. The former Notre Dame star flamed out during his brief time starting for the Panthers, but it sounds like he's making the most of his second chance. Bears head coach Marc Trestman is a renowned QB guru, so Clausen's resurgence shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen could be in line for No. 2 QB job    Sat Jul 19, 12:32 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen appears poised to beat QB Jordan Palmer for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp.

Footballguys view: It would be an incredible redemption story for Clausen if he makes the team. He washed out quickly in Carolina, but he's getting a fresh start in Chicago. Clausen is working under the guidance of renowned QB guru Marc Trestman. The Bears head coach should be able to get the best out of him. We'll see if Clausen looks like a new man in 2014, and we'll see how much of a fight Palmer puts up in the preseason.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen impressing    Fri Jun 20, 08:56 AM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen has impressed the team with how well he has handled preparation and is likely to make the team. 'No. 1 is how he handled the room. That room is hugely important; the chemistry, the karma, whatever you want to call it,' head coach Marc Trestman said. 'In that room, the communication's got to be good. Jimmy's done a very good job, very maturely fit in and taken the place of trying to learn and work to learn the offense. He's grinded at it. He spent long hours here. He's had help from the guys in the room to get him to the place he is today.'

Footballguys view: Marc Trestman is a quarterback guru, but we didn't think he was a miracle worker! The early reports have been positive about Clausen as he tries to make a comeback with the Bears after failing to impress during his time with the Panthers. We'll see if the veteran can beat out rookie David Fales for the QB3 spot behind Jay Cutler and Jordan Palmer.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen throwing well    Wed Jun 11, 03:04 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen reportedly showed zip on his throws Wednesday, June 11. Clausen said he's looking forward to competing for a spot on the team, adding he wants to get up to speed on the offense.

Footballguys view: Clausen failed miserably during his time in Carolina. We're interested in what he can do under renowned QB guru Marc Trestman, but don't scoop him up blindly even in super deep dynasty leagues.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen brought in to create competition    Sun Jun 8, 03:02 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said QB Jimmy Clausen was brought in to create competition for QBs David Fales and Jordan Palmer and was not necessarily an indication that he is dissatisfied with either of them. 'I told (Palmer) we were going to bring in another quarterback who had some experience, and that we were going to continue to keep the competition open on a daily basis,' Trestman said. The Bears will re-evaluate the quarterback situation at the end of OTAs.

Footballguys view: We're surprised that the Bears added Clausen. We like Fales as a rookie developmental quarterback because of his accuracy and elite anticipation. Palmer is a decent veteran backup behind Cutler, so there's no room for Clausen. We'll see if Clausen can push his way onto the roster.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen proves health    Sat Jun 7, 10:55 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen (shoulder) is making his way back from surgery to repair a torn labrum. The team obviously liked what they saw in a workout last week, as he threw accurately and showed strong mechanics.

Footballguys view: Clausen will push to make the final roster. He's only intriguing because of Marc Trestman, as the Bears head coach is known as a quarterback guru.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen has history with Marc Trestman    Fri Jun 6, 12:08 PM

Chicago Bears QB Jimmy Clausen worked with head coach Marc Trestman as he prepared for the NFL Draft back in 2010, according to Trestman's website. Clausen had surgery to fix a torn labrum in his right shoulder in the offseason, but the Bears believe he is fully healthy, and they intend to have him compete for a spot behind backup QB Jordan Palmer. Clausen said he thinks 'right now is the healthiest I've been since my junior year in college.'

Footballguys view: Clausen joins Blaine Gabbert and Brandon Weeden as high profile busts trying to reinvent themselves on new teams this year. The Bears have one of the shakiest backup QB situations in the league, so it's possible that Clausen could make the team if he has a strong summer and riffs with Trestman and his staff.

Bears | Jimmy Clausen contract update    Thu Jun 5, 07:05 PM

Updating a previous report, the Chicago Bears have signed free-agent QB Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. The team also waived LB Lawrence Wilson.

Footballguys view: Clausen did little to impress in his limited playing time with the Panthers. We'll give the Bears a break because they have Marc Trestman. We believe in his ability to work with quarterbacks, but Clausen is one helluva project. Fantasy owners in super deep dynasty leagues should keep tabs--but not go wild--on Clausen.

NFL | Jimmy Clausen looking for another opportunity    Fri Apr 18, 05:34 PM

Free-agent QB Jimmy Clausen (shoulder) (Panthers) wants to compete for an NFL backup job. Clausen had right shoulder surgery Sept. 11, 2013 and spent the entire season on injured reserve.

Footballguys view: We're not certain there will be much if any interest in Clausen. He was a bust as a starter with the Panthers, and he may not even be able to stick around in the league as a backup.
