Patriots | Fast start for A.J. Brown Fri Jun 12, 05:43 PM
New England Patriots WR A.J. Brown has shown an 'immediate' connection with QB Drake Maye, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Maye has immediately been throwing into small windows when targeting Brown, and the new acquisition is only encouraging his quarterback to trust him. Brown has a higher ceiling as a Patriot than he did as an Eagle, and he could help Drake Maye establish himself as the clear QB2 in fantasy football behind Josh Allen if Lamar Jackson has another injury-riddled season.

New England Patriots WR A.J. Brown's 15 receptions of 50-plus yards since the start of the 2019 season are tied for the most in the NFL.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, the addition of Brown reflects how the Patriots have aggressively reshaped their receiving corps since losing to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, a process that began with the release of leading receiver Stefon Diggs in March. Diggs totaled 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in his one season with the Patriots. As Reiss explained, the 6-1, 226-pound Brown is more of a perimeter target than Diggs, and Brown's history of making big plays adds to the positive vibe here.

New England Patriots WR A.J. Brown said he has not been dealing with any knee injuries and is ready to take part in practice.
Footballguys view: Brown passed his physical and practiced with his new team for the first time on Tuesday. While he had minor cleanup surgery on both of his knees in 2021, Brown says they're fine. "Nothing to worry about. I'm good. I'm ready to go." Brown, who turns 29 this month, enters his eighth season unconcerned about the future. He was asked on Tuesday how much he thinks he still has left in his career. "You'll see," Brown said. We're believers. Brown has already moved inside the top-10 -- to WR7 -- on the Footballguys 2026 projections.

New England Patriots WR A.J. Brown is expected to practice Tuesday, June 2, one day after being acquired via trade, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.
Footballguys view: Vrabel confirmed that Brown passed his physical, the prerequisite for hitting the field with his new teammates. Vrabel, who previously coached Brown in Tennessee, said he's excited about Brown showing what he can do. "He loves football. He has a physical skill set. I think he has great body control and can be strong at the catch point," Vrabel said. "He's been a productive, consistent player." The Patriots will get their first look at that skill set on the practice field today.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown was traded to the New England Patriots Monday, June 1, in exchange for a 2028 first-round draft choice and a 2027 fifth-round draft choice, according to sources.
Footballguys view: The Eagles have planned for Brown's departure all offseason, trading up in the first round of this year's draft for USC receiver Makai Lemon while also trading for Green Bay Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks and signing Marquise Brown and Elijah Moore as free agents. Smith's current ADP, he's WR15 being drafted with the 36th pick overall, is high enough to believe this trade is already factored in. We should add Smith to the list of fantasy WR2 prospects capable of WR1 finishes with Brown out of the picture.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown was acquired by the New England Patriots Monday, June 1, in exchange for a 2028 first-round draft choice and a 2027 fifth-round draft choice, according to sources.
Footballguys view: The trade, which has been discussed and anticipated across the NFL for months, reunites Brown and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. Brown, who turns 29 on June 30, gives Patriots quarterback Drake Maye a No. 1 target as part of a revamped top of the receiver depth chart alongside free agent signing Romeo Doubs. Brown's current WR13 ADP seemingly takes this trade into account. But working alongside Maye, it's not a reach to believe Brown can deliver WR1 production.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown is not close to being traded as the team is seeking a first-round pick in return, and teams aren't willing to meet the price.
Footballguys view: While we're all hoping for a quick resolution post-June 1, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said on Wednesday night that the Patriots and Eagles may still be haggling over the trade terms. "I just don't know that it's going to be like 'snap your fingers, and the deal is done,'" Rapoport said. "They're not particularly close, and there's a chance this could drag on for the foreseeable future." Still, as Profootballtalk.com notes, just because the two sides haven't agreed on compensation at this point does not mean a deal won't go through next week. Stay tuned.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown is someone that the New England Patriots hope that they can acquire in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. However, the Eagles are still seeking a first-round draft pick in any potential trade involving Brown.
Footballguys view: The belief about a month ago was that a first-round pick from the Patriots would be what seals the deal. The Patriots may want a lower price, but they're without leverage in this situation - especially if a team like the Chiefs jumps into the mix. There are speculative reports (Albert Breer) that suggest the Chiefs might consider making a move for Brown because of the Rashee Rice situation. Stay tuned.

Free-agent WR Stefon Diggs (Patriots) 'would love' to re-sign with the New England Patriots this offseason but a deal with the team could be contingent on whether the Patriots are able to complete a trade for Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown, according to Albert Breer of SI.com.
Footballguys view: Brown to the Patriots has been a thing for a minute, but no deal has yet come to fruition. Now that his signing won't impact compensatory picks, Diggs should find a new home before training camp. We'll see if that happens with the Patriots or elsewhere for the 2026 season.

Philadelphia Eagles A.J. Brown will likely be traded to the New England Patriots for a first-round draft pick when the trade 'comes together' on June 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: The two sides have discussed a deal, according to Schefter, but neither has been willing to commit to it before June 1 -- when the Eagles could split Brown's $43 million dead salary cap charge between this year and next. But everything is lining up for a move to happen. The Eagles drafted rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and they also signed three veterans in Elijah Moore, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, and Dontayvion Wicks. Meanwhile, the Patriots passed completely on drafting a wide receiver. Stay tuned.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown's future with the club remains in question, although the team has not engaged in any trade talks involving him, according to multiple sources. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo added that the Eagles have only had brief talks with Brown's camp recently.
Footballguys view: There's a non-zero chance that Brown gets traded (New England and Buffalo seem like good trade partners), but we shouldn't rule out the possibility that he stays with the Eagles. The cap hit would be big if they deal him, but that we are seeing teams more willing to take dead cap on to move a team forward. Still, with every passing day that we aren't hearing buzz about a Brown trade, the likelihood of him being an Eagle next season goes up.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown had five games in 2025 when he failed to catch a pass in the second half.
Footballguys view: Brown's year with the Eagles was...interesting to say the least. He seemed disgruntled most of the year, and now there are rumblings and rumors about teams trying to make a trade for him. Brown said in a recent interview on Media Row at the Super Bowl that he's excited for the upcoming season with the Eagles. It's too early to tell exactly what's going to happen (maybe nothing, maybe something) with Brown this offseason.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts completed 20-of-35 passes for 168 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in an NFC Wild Card game loss against the San Francisco 49ers, while running five times for 14 yards. RB Saquon Barkley rushed 26 times for a game-high 106 yards with three receptions for 25 yards on six targets. RB Tank Bigsby had four runs for 19 yards, with RB Will Shipley chipping in with a 6-yard grab on his lone touch and target. WR DeVonta Smith posted team bests with eight receptions and 70 yards on 11 targets, while new dad TE Dallas Goedert had four receptions for 33 yards and a TD, while also running for a 1-yard score. WR A.J. Brown had three receptions for 25 yards on seven targets, but he also had a key drop in the fourth quarter and a shouting match with head coach Nick Sirianni during the game. WR Darius Cooper had a 9-yard catch on his only target, while WR Jahan Dotson didn't have a catch on his lone target. DB Quinyon Mitchell had two interceptions and three passes defensed, while DE Jalen Carter had three total stops, a solo tackle, a sack, a tackle for loss and a QB hit.
Footballguys view: The Eagles offense has been a dysfunctional family all season, and it ended up being the downfall of the 2025 season for the team. AJ Brown had a terrible drop with the team driving to win the game, and was seen having a heated exchange with head coach Nick Sirianni on the sideline earlier in the game. That won't quiet speculation that he gets dealt in the offseason. The 49ers were without their starting linebackers, but the Eagles underachieved on offense all day. It could lead to both the firing of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and the hiring of 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as a head coach in this firing/hiring cycle - but not for at least one more week. Dallas Goedert is also a free agent, so there could be some major changes for this offense in the offseason.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown (teeth) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 26, and is not on the injury report for Week 17.
Footballguys view: Wisdom teeth extraction is an outpatient procedure that typically requires a few days of rest, which Brown got early this week. Back at practice in a full capacity on Friday should calm any concerns about his inability to suit up on Sunday. Start him as a back-end WR1.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown (teeth) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 25. The Eagles did not hold a practice Thursday, Dec. 25, so this is an estimation.
Footballguys view: Brown had his wisdom teeth removed, so he may not get much practice time in this week. The Eagles play the Bills on Sunday afternoon, and we've got Brown in the high-end WR2 range.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown could be a trade candidate this offseason, according to several NFL executives that spoke with Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: That's not a surprising report given the fact that Brown seems unhappy with the Eagles this year. Brown has a $23.3 million cap hit in 2026 with a whopping $72.5 million remaining in dead money. A trade before June 1 would mean the Eagles would have to eat a $20 million cap hit.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown ended up with two receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown on two targets in Week 15 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but he was removed early in the fourth quarter with Philly ahead by a large margin and the game out of hand.
Footballguys view: Brown's 100-yard game run came to an end at three, but at least he scored before the Eagles offense took the rest of the afternoon off. He'll remain a high ceiling WR1 play next week at Washington.
A.J. Brown player page
Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown is averaging 7.8 receptions, 11.5 targets and 97.8 receiving yards over his past four games.
Footballguys view: Brown has three 100-yard receiving games in a row, and he's likely to make it four against the Raiders in Week 15. The Eagles have lost the three previous games, but playing against the Raiders should get them back in the "W" column. Brown is a WR1 for Fantasy GMs.

A.J. Brown caught eight of 10 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.
Footballguys view: Brown had five catches for 67 yards in the first quarter, including a 16-yard touchdown for the first points, but didn't have another grab until the fourth quarter. Although he was targeted in the red zone again later in the quarter, and actually had a second touchdown on the board for a moment, his left foot hit out of bounds, nullifying the score. Still, this finish will be satisfying for fantasy investors. The Eagles play the Bears on Friday in what should provide further opportunity for fantasy success.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown will not be moved before the NFL Trade Deadline on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Footballguys view: The Eagles won a Super Bowl last year and are in line to get to the playoffs again, but Brown has appeared to be frustrated with his role and production. Despite being regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and one of the highest paid, he is tied for 59th in the league with 29 receptions. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has more receptions (30). Despite speculation that Philadelphia could trade Brown before he starts to become a bit of a headache, that won't be the case. Brown remains an Eagle.

Footballguys view: With the Eagles on bye after this week, Brown will get some extra time to allow his hamstring to heal up. He dealt with a hamstring injury this preseason, raising concerns about its severity. We'll hope for more information going into Week 10. Expect Dallas Goedert, who has been a reliable target this year, to get a bump in usage in this matchup against the Giants.
