Buccaneers | Tom Brady had COVID-19 in February    Sat Sep 4, 07:17 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady revealed Saturday, Sept. 4, told Rick Stroud, of the Tampa Bay Times, he contracted COVID-19 in February after the Super Bowl celebrations. He went on to express concerns the virus will have a larger impact on the upcoming NFL season than in 2020, due to relaxed restrictions for vaccinated players. 'It's not like last year, although we're getting tested like last year. It's going to be, I definitely think guys are going to be out at different points and we've just got to deal with it.' Brady added.

Footballguys view: Brady and the Buccanners have 100 percent vaccination on the team. This means he's unlikely to miss time if he comes down with COVID during the regular season.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady (knee) played on a fully torn medial collateral ligament last season and had surgery on the knee during the offseason, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Brady showed incredible toughness to make it through the year with a banged up knee. The injury was more severe than he was letting on, but he got another ring and then had surgery to repair the damage. Now healthy, Brady should be ready to roll again in 2021.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady off the mark?    Wed Jun 30, 04:33 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady was credited with a bad throw on 20.6 percent of his pass attempts in 2020 - the sixth-highest rate for any quarterback with at least 125 pass attempts last season - per Pro Football Reference.

Footballguys view: Brady can be off the mark all the way to the Super Bowl again. He was playing in 2020 with a knee injury that was more severe than he was letting on. Now healthy, Brady is still capable of being a QB1 for Fantasy GMs. His current ADP is QB9 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady: Still much to prove    Thu Jun 24, 12:50 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady still says he has ample motivation entering his 22nd NFL season. 'It's hard to walk away from something that you still feel like you can do and you want to do,' Brady said recently on The Late Late Show with James Corden. 'So it's not about proving it to others what you can do, it's more about proving it to yourself. And I still feel like even though I'll be 44 this year, I still have a chance to still prove it to myself that I can still do it at 44, because I really worked to a point where I can still do it at this age.'

Footballguys view: Tom Brady is like Michael Jordan - he can use anything to get motivated...fiercely motivated on the field. He's proven people wrong for years and will continue to do so.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady expected on sidelines at minicamp    Tue Jun 1, 07:44 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady (knee) isn't expected to do much throwing at mandatory minicamp while recovering from offseason knee surgery, according to head coach Bruce Arians Tuesday, June 1. 'I don't know how much I'll let him do ... with guys chasing him around,' Arians said. 'We'll see. We'll see what the doctors say. He may be doing a lot of coaching.'

Footballguys view: Brady doesn't need to do anything during OTAs and minicamp. He played through a knee injury last year that was more severe than he was letting on. The Buccaneers will be wise to ease him into action when training camp hits.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady to throw next week    Fri May 14, 09:14 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady (knee) plans to resume throwing next week after he said he had a 'pretty serious knee surgery' after the Super Bowl.

Footballguys view: Brady will get eased back into action with the Buccaneers. In a recent interview, Brady admitted that he spent a lot of time tending to his knee during last year and never fully grasped the Bruce Arians playbook. With a year in the system and a healthy knee, Brady could at least match (or best?) the numbers (40 touchdowns) that made him the no.7 fantasy quarterback in 2020.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady (knee) is progressing 'very well' in his recovery from post-Super Bowl knee surgery, according to general manager Jason Licht. 'I talked to him last week,' Licht said Thursday, April 1. 'I know things are going well. I don't want to put an exact timeline on it right now because I don't want to set expectations one way or the other, but I know that things are going very well.'

Footballguys view: Brady is tough as nails and even at his advanced age, we have a feeling he'll be able to recover fully by the time training camp rolls around. Expect the Buccaneers to ease him into action when August gets here.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady signed a one-year extension through the 2022 season Friday, March 12. Financial terms weren't disclosed, but it saves the team $19 million against the salary cap this year.

Buccaneers | Blaine Gabbert primed to succeed Tom Brady?    Fri Feb 12, 12:37 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Blaine Gabbert is a realistic candidate to take over as the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers should Tom Brady choose to retire after the 2021 season, based on comments made by general manager Jason Licht on Thursday, Feb. 11.'He is one guy, my scouts and I talk about this a lot, he's just one guy that I love to watch throw every day in practice because he has got a cannon. He's very accurate with his throws as well and he can just really whistle them in in tight windows. If ... he had been forced to play more, I think that he would have really opened a lot of people's eyes about how talented he is, especially being in the same system for a couple of years,' Licht told the Pewter Report podcast.

Footballguys view: Gabbert has been a bust to this point in his career. However, there is a chance the Buccaneers want him to take over when Brady is done. That could be after the 2021 season, or if Brady has his way after the 2022 season. Ryan Tannehill was able to turn his career around, so let's not discount what Gabbert could be. It's a longshot to be sure, but it's not impossible as the dirty little secret in the NFL is 'fit.' It's all about fit, and Gabbert seems to fit what the Buccaneers want to do.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady to undergo surgery    Thu Feb 11, 04:40 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady (knee) is scheduled to undergo surgery on his injured knee this offseason.

Footballguys view: Bruce Arians is describing this as a cleanup surgery, although there are reports that it's a little more than that. Brady should be ready to go in the offseason, although at his age and coming off a knee surgery we could see him somewhat limited in OTAs and minicamp.

Buccaneers | Extension for Tom Brady?    Thu Feb 4, 01:29 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady's contract with the team runs through the 2021 season, but head coach Bruce Arians said Thursday, Feb. 4, that he 'wouldn't be surprised' if Brady is given an extension beyond that.

Footballguys view: Brady wants to play through his age-45 season. That means he'd be playing in 2022, and that means the Buccaneers would have to put one more year on his deal. With the way that Brady is playing, the team might do just that.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady told reporters over Zoom on Monday, Feb. 1, that he 'definitely' will consider playing beyond age 45.

Footballguys view: Many think if Brady wins Super Bowl LV with the Buccaneers that he might hang up his cleats. Brady, who will enter the final season of the two-year contract he signed with the Bucs last spring once Super Bowl LV is over, will reach that age in August of 2023.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay headed for Super Bowl LV    Sun Jan 24, 06:10 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 20-of-36 passes for 280 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Jan. 24. It will be his 10th Super Bowl appearance, and the Bucs are the first team to play the game in their home stadium. RB Leonard Fournette ran 12 times for 55 yards and a touchdown while adding five receptions for 19 yards, RB Ronald Jones rushed 10 times for 16 yards, WR Chris Godwin racked up five receptions for a team-best 110 yards on nine targets and WR Mike Evans added three receptions for 51 yards and a score on eight targets. WR Scott Miller also cashed in his three targets for two catches, 36 yards and a touchdown, while TE Rob Gronkowski was limited to one catch for 29 yards on his lone target. TE Cameron Brate picked up three grabs for 19 yards and a score, while WR Tyler Johnson rounded things out with one catch for 16 yards. LB Devin White led the way defensively with a staggering game-high 15 total tackles, including nine of the solo variety.

Footballguys view: Brady wasn't the reason the Bucs won, but he did have two good long passes to offset his three interceptions, which his defense did a great job of minimizing in the story of the outcome of the game. Leonard Fournette goes to the Super Bowl with Tom Brady after his 2017 Jaguars team was ousted by Brady. Godwin had great hands deep on his key play early, while Evans hands were more suspect, although the interception off of his hands in the red zone was more on Brady than him. Tampa Bay will be the first team to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady likely to return in 2021    Sun Jan 10, 08:38 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is expected to return to the club for the 2021 season. He will be entering the final season of a two-year contract and reportedly enjoys it there, believing that next year will be even better than this year.

Footballguys view: If the Buccaneers were to win a Super Bowl this year then perhaps Brady would change his mind. The allure of going out on top has only happened to a couple of Hall of Fame quarterbacks (John Elway, Peyton Manning) in NFL history. However, with the way that Brady loves to compete he could win it all then still come back to try and make it back-to-back. It's a safe bet, no matter the outcome this year, to assume Brady is going to play in the 2021 season.
