Saints | Optimistic about Reggie Bush Wed Nov 24, 11:26 PM
Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is optimistic that RB Reggie Bush (fibula) will be able to return from his broken right leg against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12 Thursday, Nov. 25, according to The Associated Press. Bush is listed as questionable for the game. If Bush does not play, FB Heath Evans could see more playing time with RB Ladell Betts (neck) out with a sprained neck.
Footballguys view: Bush still shouldn't be trusted this week, but this a great sign that he'll be a good flex play in PPR leagues for week 13. |

Saints | Ladell Betts knows the offense Thu Sep 23, 04:24 AM
New Orleans Saints RB Ladell Betts spent time this summer with the Saints, so he should already know the team's offense, reports Sheldon Mickles, of The Advocate. It is not clear how much playing time Betts will receive during Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons. Betts said he is a lot more confident in his knee now that he has been able to test it previously.
Footballguys view: We're not expecting much from Betts this week now that he's back with the Saints. New Orleans should give Pierre Thomas a larger role in the offense and use Lance Moore on some of the short routes that Reggie Bush usually runs. |

Redskins | Betts released Thu Mar 4, 05:05 PM
Jason La Canfora, of the NFL Network, reports the Washington Redskins have released RB Ladell Betts.
Footballguys view: The Redskins RB corps keeps shrinking as Clinton Portis and P.J. Hill may be the featured backs in 2010. They may select a RB in the 2010 NFL Draft, but not with a premium pick. Mike Shanahan has a proven track record of being able to take players like Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, Tatum Bell, and Reuben Droughns and turn them into productive - 1,000-yard rushers. |

Updating a previous report, The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins RB Ladell Betts (knee) is out for the season with damage to both his ACL and MCL in his left knee, according to head coach Jim Zorn. Betts will be placed on the Injured Reserve list.
Footballguys view: Clinton Portis should be back from his injury soon, but is expected to miss the game against the Eagles this week. Rock Cartwright should carry the load for the Redskins, with Quinton Ganther spelling him from time to time. The team is also expected to re-sign RB Marcus Mason. |

Updating an ongoing story, ESPN.com reports Washington Redskins RB Ladell Betts (knee) has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and posterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season, a team source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: Betts ran really hard last week against the Broncos, and it's unfortunate that he was injured in the contest against the Cowboys. Rock Cartwright played well in his absence, but the team is looking for more help going forward. Clinton Portis could be back from his injury soon, and the team is looking to re-sign RB Marcus Mason. |

The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins RB Ladell Betts had 26 carries for 114 yards with a touchdown during the team's Week 10 game.
Footballguys view: Betts fought through an ankle injury to carry the ball 26 times. He seemed to get stronger as the game went along and the Redskins powered the ball down the field on long drives featuring the running game. He'll be a strong start in relief of Portis. |

Redskins | Alridge may get some playing time Sat Sep 26, 07:20 PM
Jason Reid, from the Washington Post, notes that in a highly unusual move, the Redskins are carrying five running backs on the roster: Clinton Portis, Anthony Alridge, Ladell Betts, Marcus Mason and Rock Cartwright. Portis, Betts, Mason and Cartwright are considered tackle-to-tackle guys. Alridge is the only member of the group with home-run potential, and he moved ahead of Mason and Cartwright as soon as he was re-signed.
Footballguys view: Reid also thinks that Betts grip on the third down role isn't as strong as it was before the opener. He has barely produced when called upon, and doesn't have the same type of big play ability that Alridge has. However, if Portis were to miss time due to injury Betts would get first crack at the starting job. |

49ers | Parameters set for Crabtree? Sat Aug 22, 08:21 PM
Matt Maiocco, from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports now that the Nos. 9 and 11 draft picks have signed, will that help the 49ers reach contract terms with Michael Crabtree, the No. 10 selection? That sounds like a reasonable starting and finishing point, doesn't it? At least we now know what the 49ers are (have been) offering. According to league sources, the 49ers' contract proposal fits snuggly in the middle - as it should. The 49ers' contract offer to Crabtree and his agent, Eugene Parker, is believed to be in the neighborhood of 5 yrs, $20 M base, $26.5 M max, $16 M guaranteed.
Footballguys view: Whether he likes it or not, Michael Crabtree's contract is pretty much set. His camp seems to be obsessed with what Darrius Heyward-Bey received from the Raiders. If he were to sit out the entire year, and re-enter the draft next year he would likely be drafted lower than #10 overall. The 49ers have all the leverage in this situation, and Crabtree will just have to realize that and get to camp. |

Redskins | Betts has had a strong offseason and training camp, now third-down back Fri Aug 21, 05:07 PM
Updating previous reports, Jason Reid, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins RB Ladell Betts has taken over as the team's primary third-down back because he forced the issue with the team's coaching staff based off of what he has been able to do on the field. The Redskins are eager to give him more work, and have been impressed with his performance during the offseason as well as training camp.
Footballguys view: If Clinton Portis has nagging injuries build up like he did last year, this could become a full-blown RBBC by the time the fantasy playoffs roll around. |
Ladell Betts player page
Redskins | Less could mean more for Portis Fri Aug 21, 05:06 PM
Jason Reid, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis should, in theory, be able to remain energized from start to finish this year because he will have less plays with RB Ladell Betts taking over as the team's third-down back. It could be interesting to see how Portis takes the situation moving forward, as he previously would check himself out of games when he needed a rest. Portis, who has never been a stranger to voicing his thoughts, also has the ear of team owner Daniel Snyder and executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato.
Footballguys view: This is part of the reason Portis is falling to the second round (or later) in most leagues. |

Redskins | Betts expected to have a bigger role Fri Aug 21, 12:28 PM
Jason Reid, from the Washington Post, reports coach Jim Zorn has expanded Ladell Betts's responsibilities, making him the primary running back on third downs. That previously had been Clinton Portis's domain -- as well as every other down for the Redskins' offense -- as long as Portis was physically sound enough to play or not on the sideline during a rare break for him.
Footballguys view: Remember this story if you're sitting at the end of the first round and considering Clinton Portis for your fantasy team. The Redskins want to keep Portis healthy, and will expand the role of Ladell Betts in order to do so. Portis could see a decline in production, especially as a receiver. We suggest that if you're sitting at the turn you should look to draft one of the elite wide receivers first. |

Redskins | Betts could be the 3rd down back Mon Aug 3, 10:22 PM
Jason Reid, from the Washington Post, reports Ladell Betts has been told he will play more. "This is training camp, and anything can happen, so I'm not taking my job lightly, like it's just mine," Betts said last week. "But I approach it as if it's mine, and I prepare myself to be the starter. I have been told that hopefully I'll be able to play more, third-down situations. We'll see." Coach Jim Zorn said he is still working out the formula for which Betts will be used, but there are indications that he could be inserted in almost every third-down passing situation.
Footballguys view: The Redskins want Clinton Portis to stay healthy for the entire season, so it makes sense they would be looking to get Ladell Betts more involved. Back in 2006, when Portis was lost for most of the season due to injury Betts rushed for over 1,100 yards and had 53 receptions. If you do draft Clinton Portis, don't select him too early and make sure to get Betts later on because he is a must-handcuff. |
