Bills | Josh Allen a touchdown machine Sat Feb 7, 02:18 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen's 301 total touchdowns through his first eight seasons are the most in NFL history, and he has more touchdowns than six teams during that span.
Footballguys view: Allen has all the success in the world during the regular season, but he's had multiple failures in the playoffs - not even yet earning a trip to the Super Bowl. That's one of the reasons why the Bills moved on from Sean McDermott. We'll see Joe Brady as head coach, and he'll have Allen scoring in bunches during the regular season. The real test will be whether or not Allen and the Bills will have more postseason success under their new head coach.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) underwent surgery on Monday, Jan. 26, and will make a full recovery.
Footballguys view: This was an aggravation from an old injury that Allen sustained in Week 16 against the Browns. It's nothing that will keep Allen out of offseason activities. Expect Allen out there when OTAs kick off later this spring.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) might need a foot procedure in the offseason, according to general manager Brandon Beane.
Footballguys view: The operation would not keep him out long enough to jeopardize his participation in OTAs. However, the Bills might choose to ease him into action during the offseason. After years of falling short with Sean McDermott, Allen is looking to make (and win) a Super Bowl for the first time in his career.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen completed 25 of his 39 pass attempts for 283 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round. He added 12 carries for 66 yards and lost two fumbles, and RB James Cook rushed 24 times for 117 yards, caught two passes for 24 yards and lost a fumble. RB Ray Davis didn't log a carry, but he did catch two passes for 33 yards. TE Dalton Kincaid caught six passes for a team-high 83 yards and a score, and WR Khalil Shakir finished with 75 receiving yards on a team-high seven receptions. WR Keon Coleman caught a 10-yard touchdown, and WR Mecole Hardan hauled in a four-yard score. TE Dawson Knox added three receptions for 32 yards, and WR Brandin Cooks caught two passes for 20 yards. S Cole Bishop recorded a team-high 12 tackles, including seven solo stops and two tackles for loss, and CB Cam Lewis finished with 10 tackles and two passes defensed.
Footballguys view: A team can't expect to turn the ball over five times and win on the road in the playoffs, and yet the Bills had multiple to chance to do just that despite being down 23-10 in the second half. This one will haunt Josh Allen the most, as he hadn't committed a turnover in a long time in the postseason coming into this game. The Bills will go into another offseason wondering how to keep this from happening again.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen went 28-for-35 for 273 yards and one touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card playoff game and also rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries during the game. RB James Cook rushed for 46 yards on 15 carries and also caught two passes for five yards. WR Khalil Shakir caught 12 passes for 82 yards on 12 targets. WR Brandin Cooks caught three passes for 58 yards on five targets, while WR Keon Coleman caught one pass for 36 yards on one target. TE Dawson Knox caught three passes for 30 yards on three targets, while TE Dalton Kincaid caught three passes for 28 yards and one touchdown on five targets. LB Shaq Thompson recorded six solo tackles, eight total tackles and one interception during the game.
Footballguys view: Allen was his typical superhero self in the postseason despite two trips to the medical tent. His decision making was cold-blooded and he created many of the best plays for the Bills pass offense with creativity and toughness. The Jaguars defense didn't have many lapses, but Allen had the look of a quarterback who is not going to be stopped on potential game-winning drives. The Jaguars excellent run defense predictably bottled up Cook, but he could have a big game against Denver next week. Shakir was "what the defense gave" Allen on many dropbacks, and he converted a few first downs with grit and guile. The team lost Gabe Davis to an injury during the game, but that didn't stop Allen from carrying them to victory. This might have been the toughest opponent they will face on the AFC side of the bracket.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) has been dealing with an aggravation of an old bone injury on the side of his foot for most of the second half of this season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. However, the injury is reportedly as good as it's been in quite some time. For Allen, it is a matter of pain tolerance and he is not at risk of sustaining further injury.

Buffalo Bills QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 22-of-29 passes for 259 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 18 against the New York Jets, coming on for QB Josh Allen after a single snap.
Footballguys view: It was a strong performance on a day in which the playoff-bound Bills (12-5) rested a majority of their starters. Trubisky distributed the ball nicely, hitting four different players -- Gabriel Davis, Ty Johnson, Dawson Knox, and Ray Davis -- with scoring passes. Sunday's win, coupled with the Los Angeles Chargers' loss at Denver, led to Buffalo moving up one spot in clinching the No. 6 seed. The Bills will travel to play the AFC South champion Jaguars in the wild-card round next weekend.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) was limited in practice on Friday, Jan. 2, but is good to go for Week 18 against the New York Jets.
Footballguys view: The Bills are mostly locked into their playoff seeding already. Allen has some incentives and milestones that might keep him playing through the whole game. But with the AFC bracket missing some big teams this year, the Bills' biggest goal this year should be the Super Bowl. Even if Allen is active and starts, he and other starters may be pulled early.

Footballguys view: Bills HC Sean McDermott told reporters that Allen is trending in the right direction ahead of Week 18's matchup with the Jets. That was before Wednesday's practice, but now he's a DNP on Thursday. Allen could be ready to play against the Jets, but in a game they should control easily the Bills might choose to shut him down early (if he does play). Stay tuned.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) sat out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 31, but he's trending in the right direction to play in Week 18, according to head coach Sean McDermott.
Footballguys view: We'll know more about Allen's status for Sunday's game against the Jets later in the week. It sounds like Wednesday was just a maintenance day for the superstar quarterback.

Bills QB Josh Allen got off to a slow start in Sunday's 13-12 loss to the Eagles, but went 16 of 25 for 172 yards in the second half and finished 23 of 35 for 262 yards. With two rushing scores, the 29-year-old Allen increased his career total to 301 (passing, rushing, receiving) and became the first player to reach 300 before turning 30.
Footballguys view: Also worth noting, Allen appears to be fine after he was spotted limping following Sunday's loss to the Eagles. X-rays were negative on Allen's foot, Bills coach Sean McDermott confirmed. McDermott described Allen as "sore," but it doesn't sound more serious than that. Sunday's loss to the Eagles eliminated the Bills from AFC East contention. Buffalo will be a wild-card team, and McDermott might decide to rest Allen to get him ready for the playoffs. But Allen will be ready to go when the Bills need him.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) is expected to play without any limitations in Week 17's game versus the Philadelphia Eagles, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) has improved each day, according to head coach Sean McDermott, and Allen will play in Week 17.
Footballguys view: Sean McDermott said that the soreness in Allen's foot "has dissipated," and he will play. Allen briefly exited last week's game for X-rays but returned and finished. His fantasy production was poor against a strong Cleveland defense. He'll face another tough matchup against the Eagles this week, but his upside makes him a must-start regardless of opponent or health.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) will not practice on Tuesday, Dec. 23, according to head coach Sean McDermott.
Footballguys view: The Bills were already scheduled to hold a walk-through session on Tuesday. The walk-through was scheduled before Buffalo clinched its seventh straight playoff berth with the Colts' loss on Monday night. McDermott said it was too early to determine whether Allen would practice on Wednesday. McDermott said Allen, who hurt his foot late in the first half Sunday but returned to play the second half, experienced no setbacks. The coach said he anticipates the quarterback playing on Sunday, when the Bills host the Eagles. Allen has not missed a start since his rookie season in 2018. Stay tuned.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) is considered day-to-day because of the foot injury he suffered in Week 16, according to head coach Sean McDermott. Allen could miss some practice time this week, but McDermott expects Allen to be available for Week 17.
Footballguys view: Allen took a 23-yard sack late in the first half of Sunday's game, but injured himself on the play. He told reporters later he tweaked his foot a little bit. He returned for the second half of the game -- after having precautionary X-rays on the foot. Allen said the pain subsided, but he clearly had to battle through the second half. He finished the game, completing just 12 of 19 passes for 130 yards. He failed to produce a TD running or passing. We'll watch for more on this one as Sunday afternoon's tilt with the Eagles draws nearer.
Josh Allen player page
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen completed 12-of-19 passes for 130 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 16 against the Cleveland Browns, while running seven times for just 17 yards.
Footballguys view: All three Bills offensive touchdowns came via the ground by running backs in a bad break for Allen fantasy teams. Allen was one of the most valuable players in fantasy football all season, but this game likely eliminated a lot of teams that relied on him. Dawson Knox dropped a fourth down sure touchdown late in the game and Allen did get banged up enough on a first half sack to have his foot X-rayed at halftime.
Josh Allen player page
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) suffered a foot injury during the Week 16 game but was cleared to return to the game after undergoing X-rays on the foot.
Footballguys view: Allen retreated into a 23-yard sack late in the first half of Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns. He injured himself on the play. "Just tweaked my foot a little bit," Allen told reporters after the game. He was asked whether the foot affected him in the final two quarters. "No, I don't think so," he said. The delivery wasn't entirely convincing, so it makes sense to watch the injury report this week, as the Bills prepare for a Week 17 visit from the Eagles.
Josh Allen player page
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen completed 19 of 28 for 193 yards and three touchdowns, and added 48 rush yards on 11 carries in a comeback win Week 15 against the New England Patriots. He had a rush touchdown called back by penalty in the second half.
Footballguys view: It was another superhero performance by Allen, who overcame a 21-0 first half deficit and led the offense to five straight touchdown drives. It was merely an elite QB1 fantasy performance instead of the week winners we have seen at times this season. Allen will face Myles Garrett at Cleveland next week with an outside shot to catch the Patriots following this win.
Josh Allen player page
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen went 22-for-28 for 251 yards and three touchdowns against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14. He also rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown on nine carries during the game.
Footballguys view: Allen was a magician in the second half and led the Bills to another improbable win, pulling many fantasy teams across the finish line in the process. The Bengals defense was tough in the first half and forced a key James Cook fumble at the goal line in the second half, but Allen made the plays needed in the fourth quarter, along with the Bills defense picking off Joe Burrow on consecutive offensive plays to swing the thrilling quarterback version of a heavyweight title fight.
Josh Allen player page
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen completed 15-of-23 passes for 123 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 13 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he rushed eight times for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Footballguys view: Allen now has 76 career rushing touchdowns, surpassing QB Cam Newton for the most all-time rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in the regular season. Fantasy investors will be expecting another big week with the Bengals on tap for Week 15.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (undisclosed) felt 'sore' after Week 12's game versus the Houston Texans but is expected to be fine going forward, according to head coach Sean McDermott.
Footballguys view: Allen was sacked eight times against the Texans on Thursday night, so it's not a surprise that he's sore. Allen said his left shoulder "went a little numb on me" after a hit in Week 12's loss to the Texans, but he also added "we're good." Let's see what he does in practice next week. A DNP on Wednesday wouldn't be a surprise.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen completed 24 of 34 passes for 253 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions versus the Houston Texans in Week 12. Allen, who added 20 yards on five carries, was also sacked a career-high eight times in the loss.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has 75 rushing touchdowns in his career, and he needs one more to set the record for most career rushing scores by a quarterback in NFL history.
Footballguys view: That's simply outstanding. In the history of the league, Allen is going down as one of the best with his rushing and passing ability. He's flourished with the Bills, but to work his way towards the "Mount Rushmore" of quarterbacks he would need a Super Bowl championship or two.
