Raiders | John Spytek officially hired    Sat Jan 25, 10:22 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek was officially hired by the Las Vegas Raiders Friday, Jan. 24, to be their new general manager.

Footballguys view: Spytek is a long time personnel guy with a sterling reputation. He went to the Buccaneers and helped assemble a team that won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady at quarterback. Brady is a part owner in the Raiders, and he clearly trusts Spytek's proven eye for talent. Spytek will work closely with new HC Pete Carroll to find the best talent the Raiders can get.

Raiders | Vegas could be in play for Russell Wilson    Fri Jan 24, 01:17 PM

Impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson (Steelers) might be of interest as a stop-gap quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a source. Per the source, Wilson and new head coach Pete Carroll have 'mended fences' from their time together with the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: After seeing how things went for the Steelers passing game this season, it's hard to say this would be good for Brock Bowers, but it could be worse than catching passes from Russell Wilson. The new general manager John Spytek will also need to decide whether to trade up for a quarterback, either Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Shadeur Sanders.

Raiders | Pete Carroll hired in Vegas    Fri Jan 24, 10:36 AM

Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was hired by the Las Vegas Raiders as head coach Friday, Jan. 24. He received a three-year deal with a fourth-year option.

Footballguys view: The Raiders were considered front runners to hire Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson a week ago, but Johnson chose the Bears, so the Raiders are going with a familiar face. The team should have a strong defensive identity under Carroll, and this could also quiet talk of trading Maxx Crosby. There is some talk that Russell Wilson may be the quarterback, as he and Carroll have mended their relationship after it ended badly in Seattle. Carroll will go back to facing Jim Harbaugh at least twice a season after the two had one of the NFL best rivalries when they were with the Seahawks and 49ers.

Raiders | Las Vegas to interview Robert Saleh on Friday    Thu Jan 16, 01:44 PM

Updating previous reports, former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh is scheduled to interview for the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching position on Friday, Jan. 17. He is also expected to meet with the Dallas Cowboys over the next few days.

Footballguys view: In the ever-changing landscape of head coach hire buzz, Ben Johnson is gaining steam in the Raiders picture, so this might not result in much for Saleh. The Cowboys aren't being as aggressive with interview scheduling as other teams, and there's a belief that they may already have their choice made, with some signs pointing to Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The main significance of this item is that Saleh is still thought of as head coach material in some circles (including the Jaguars) despite how his tenure at the Jets went by the W-L metric.

Raiders | Vance Joseph meeting with Vegas     Thu Jan 16, 01:31 PM

Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is interviewing with the Las Vegas Raiders for their head coaching vacancy on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: Joseph has done a fantastic job with the Broncos defense, outside of a game or two, over the last two years. He's been a head coach before (with the Broncos) and would likely be better in his second chance. Joseph is known as a leader of men, and his guidance could be what the Raiders feel they need.

Raiders | Tom Telesco done in Las Vegas    Thu Jan 9, 01:59 PM

Las Vegas Raiders general manager Tom Telesco was fired on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Footballguys view: The Raiders have now moved on from HC Antonio Pierce and GM Tom Telesco in the last few days. They'll be in the market for both, and there are some interesting combinations they could be considering. Telesco has now been fired as the Chargers GM and the Raiders GM (after one season).

Raiders | Mike Vrabel, Liam Coen likely of interest to Vegas    Wed Jan 8, 12:53 PM

Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen are expected to be 'persons of interest' to replace Antonio Pierce as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Footballguys view: Tom Brady is going to be heavily involved in the search for a new head coach. In addition to finding a leader for the coaching staff, the Raiders must find a quarterback. It's all about 'fit' between head coach and quarterback, and the Raiders may only be able to get one of those properly installed this offseason.

Raiders | Head Coach Antonio Pierce Fired    Tue Jan 7, 03:52 PM

Another change in Las Vegas: Raiders fired head coach Antonio Pierce, a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: The Raiders, who have confirmed the news, now have gone from Jon Gruden, who resigned in 2021, to Josh McDaniels, who was fired in 2023, to firing Pierce in 2025. Owner Mark Davis arrived at the team facility within the last hour to deliver the news to Pierce, who finished 4-13 in his lone season. The Raiders endured a 10-game losing streak during Pierce's only season as full-time head coach. It was also the first time they went winless against AFC West opponents since 2006. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, several players continued to voice support for Pierce after the season, and he admitted he should have trusted his "gut" more. However, ownership has decided he won't get that chance.

Raiders | Brock Bowers tops all tight ends    Tue Jan 7, 12:18 AM

Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers ranked third in receptions (112) and tied for eighth in receiving yards (1,194) during the 2024 season. He led all tight ends in both categories, also.

Footballguys view: As previously noted, Bowers finished the season with 112 catches in 2024, passing Malik Nabers (109) to officially secure the NFL record for most receptions by a rookie at any position in NFL history. Bowers entered Week 18 with the rookie mark. Nabers briefly passed him Sunday, but Bowers caught four passes in the loss to the Chargers, securing the record. Expect him to be the first tight end off the board in 2025.

Raiders | Ameer Abdullah unlikely to play in season finale    Fri Jan 3, 03:34 PM

Las Vegas Raiders RB Ameer Abdullah (foot) did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Week 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Footballguys view: Alexander Mattison will get the start in a Raiders backfield that has been a revolving door this season. Consider him a flex play playing in an offense that has been revived enough the last two weeks to win back-to-back games and push Las Vegas out of a prime early draft pick slot.

Raiders | 145 total yards for Ameer Abdullah before RB injured his foot    Sun Dec 29, 06:27 PM

Las Vegas Raiders RB Ameer Abdullah ran 20 times for 115 yards and tacked on 32 more yards via three catches on four targets at the New Orleans Saints in Week 17 on Sunday, Dec. 29.

Footballguys view: Abdullah entered the season third on the depth chart, but injuries and ineffectiveness by Zamir White, Alexander Mattison, and Sincere McCormick elevated the 10-year veteran. He responded with a career-best rushing performance to become the first Raiders running back to break the century mark this season. He also left the game with a foot injury on the first play of the fourth quarter and did not return. We'll be watching for more in advance of the team's Week 18 game against the Chargers.

Raiders | Historic day for Brock Bowers    Sun Dec 29, 06:23 PM

Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers secured all seven targets for 77 yards and rushed once for a one-yard loss at the New Orleans Saints in Week 17 on Sunday, Dec. 29. He became the Raiders' all-time leader in single-season receptions, passing TE Darren Waller, all while also becoming the NFL's all-time leader in rookie receiving yards and receptions in a single season.

Footballguys view: Bowers has been one of the biggest hits at tight end this year and he has exorcised the ghost of Kyle Pitts hovering over elite tight end prospects in fantasy. He'll likely be the #2 tight end off of the board next year, going perhaps as high as the second round.

Raiders | Tre Tucker finds paydirt    Sun Dec 29, 06:21 PM

Raiders | Aidan O'Connell acquits himself well    Sun Dec 29, 06:04 PM

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell completed 20 of 35 attempts for 242 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions at the New Orleans Saints in Week 17 on Sunday, Dec. 29. He ran three times for minus-one yard and was sacked once.

Footballguys view: O'Connell has been doing enough to preserve the value of Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers in fantasy and create a viable play in the Raiders backfield. This is becoming more important because the Raiders late season wins have taken them out of contention for a top quarterback unless they trade up, so O'Connell could be the Week 1 starter next season.

Raiders | Busy day for Robert Spillane    Sun Dec 29, 06:03 PM
