Minnesota Vikings QB Max Brosmer will start Week 17 against the Detroit Lions due to an injury to J.J. McCarthy.
Footballguys view: This will be Bromer's second NFL start. He was thrown into the starting role on November 30 when the Vikings lost 26-0 at Seattle. Brosmer struggled mightily, completing 19-of-30 passes for 126 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions. Brosmer played the entire second half against the Giants after McCarthy was injured, and threw just nine passes, completing seven of them for 52 yards. He didn't throw a touchdown, nor was he intercepted. He was sacked once. His presence in the starting lineup further diminishes the value of Minnesota's receiving assets, including Justin Jefferson.
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) will miss Week 17 against the Detroit Lions, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. McCarthy has a small fracture in his throwing hand.
Footballguys view: O'Connell said the injury shouldn't require surgery. McCarthy suffered an injury to his right hand during Minnesota's win over the Giants on Sunday. Details about the injury have been murky, but he appeared to hurt himself when his hand struck a Giants defender's helmet during the follow-through of a pass attempt two plays before he scrambled for a 12-yard rushing touchdown. Without McCarthy, the Vikings will give undrafted rookie Max Brosmer his second start of the season, which doesn't bode well for the team's receiving assets for Sunday's game.
Houston Texans RB Woody Marks (ankle) returned to practice on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Footballguys view: Marks was injured in the Texans' Week 15 win over the Colts and was inactive for this past Sunday's win over the Raiders. As CBSSports.com noted, in Mark's absence, Jawhar Jordan out-snapped Nick Chubb 30 to 21, with Jordan rushing 15 times for 53 yards and adding five catches for 17 yards on five targets. Jordan would likely again be in line to lead the backfield if Marks misses Week 17 against the Chargers. We'll be watching for more on Mark's status in advance of Saturday's matchup.
Cleveland Browns RB Quinshon Judkins (ankle, leg) was placed on injured reserve following successful surgery on his fractured fibula and dislocated ankle.
Footballguys view: The Browns announced that Judkins' surgery went well on Tuesday and that he's expected to make a full recovery. Judkins is expected to be able to resume football activities at some point in the next 4-6 months. Judkins was a second-round pick in April, but he did not sign with the Browns until September because the team waited for a misdemeanor battery charge to be resolved, so he didn't make his debut in Week 2. Judkins finished the year with 230 carries for 827 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 appearances before his injury. We'll monitor his rehab over the offseason.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Josh Williams returned to practice with a Commissioner permission designation after his suspension was lifted on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers WR Roman Wilson could see an opportunity 'to show his professionalism and his readiness and how he's been sharpening his sword for battle,' according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
Footballguys view: Wilson has been a healthy scratch the last three games due to the emergence of veteran receivers Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. "One man's misfortune is another man's opportunity," Tomlin said. The misfortune Tomlin refers to is DK Metcalf's. The team's WR1 has been suspended for two games -- pending an appeal (scheduled for today). It's hard to imagine Metcalf winning this appeal outright, so we expect opportunities against the Browns. But none of the team's remaining wideouts, Wilson included, will be trustworthy options in Week 17.
New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte (concussion) is in the concussion protocol Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Footballguys view: Boutte being out could mean more work for rookie wideout Kyle Williams, who hauled in a 37-yard touchdown pass against the Ravens. DeMario Douglas, who has been quiet in recent weeks, could also see more action. Remember, however, Douglas left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury. Head coach Mike Vrabel didn't offer an update on Douglas. We'll be watching for more on Boutte and Douglas as the week progresses.

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (concussion) is in concussion protocol Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Footballguys view: If Henderson is out for Sunday's game against the Jets, the Patriots could look to elevate a player from the practice squad to work behind Rhamondre Stevenson and D'Ernest Johnson, who is currently filling in for the injured Terrell Jennings. All that said, Stevenson would be in a great spot for this one, going up against a New York defense that's allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs (29.4 points per game) over the past six weeks. We'll follow up on Henderson over the coming days.
Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Metcalf, who is appealing his two-game suspension, will forfeit $555,556 for the two games. The suspension would also void $45 million in future guaranteed money, according to his contract, which was reviewed by CBS Sports and ESPN.
Footballguys view: We'll watch for word on the appeal, but assuming Metcalf misses time, the Steelers will be without a clear No. 1 receiver in their final two regular-season games. The position group could be even more depleted after Calvin Austin III left the 29-24 victory against the Lions with a hamstring injury. While RB Kenneth Gainwell leads the Steelers with 62 receptions, Metcalf leads the team with 850 receiving yards on 59 catches. The Steelers added WR Adam Thielen to the active roster, and he fared well against Detroit. Again, the appeal is pending, but fantasy managers should make other plans.

Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce tallied four receptions, 86 yards, and two touchdowns in a Week 16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Footballguys view: Pierce's value is now at an all-time high, and with him set to hit free agency this offseason, the Colts will likely have competition to retain him. As A to Z Sports' Destin Adam suggested, Pierce has positioned himself well with the most receiving yards of his career (871) and four touchdowns. He'll also be somebody fantasy investors have great interest in next summer, regardless of landing spot.
Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. caught four of his five targeted passes for 32 yards in a Week 16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor carried the ball 16 times for 46 yards and a touchdown versus the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16. Taylor also caught three passes for 33 yards.

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers completed 23 of 35 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16. With the game out of hand late, Rivers was replaced by QB Riley Leonard on the final drive.
Footballguys view: After Rivers played it close to the vest against Seattle in Week 14 -- in his first game in five years -- he opened things up in a significant way Monday night, pushing the ball farther downfield after averaging just 4.4 yards per attempt in his previous game. Unfortunately, the Colts' defense had its most miserable performance of the season. After starting 2025 at 8-2 and in the conversation among title contenders, Indianapolis has now lost five straight and seems destined to miss the playoffs again. But they're not eliminated yet, so expect Rivers to make another start.

San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings had five receptions, 71 yards, and a touchdown in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts. Jennings, who was targeted six times, has now scored in four consecutive games.

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (ankle) limped off the field in the third quarter of the Week 16 game against the Indianapolis Colts due to an ankle injury. He was deemed questionable to return, but he did not.
Footballguys view: Before exiting, Kittle caught seven of eight targets for 115 yards and a touchdown. Since returning from an early-season injury, Kittle has been a key part of this Niners offense throughout the tumult that was the middle portion of the campaign. Now that San Francisco is closer to full strength than it has been at any other point in 2025, he's poised to have more outings like the one he had Monday night. That said, we'll need to monitor the ankle heading into a Week 17 tilt with the Bears.

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey had 21 carries for 117 yards versus the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16. He added six receptions for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Footballguys view: The 49ers' run game has struggled to gain traction all season, and Monday didn't seem the most likely time for that to change against a Colts defense that entered tied for second in yards per carry allowed (3.8). But San Francisco's offensive line was up to the task with McCaffrey enjoying his second-best rushing effort of the season. McCaffrey surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the season, the fifth time he has done it in his career. He'll go up against the Bears on Sunday night in Week 17.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 25 of 34 passes for 295 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception versus the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16. Purdy also ran the ball twice for 11 yards in the win.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner suggested, "Monday Night Football" hadn't been kind to Purdy, as he had thrown five touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his five appearances entering this game. But Purdy shrugged those woes off against a depleted Colts secondary, posting his first career five-touchdown game. He's the first Niners quarterback to throw for five scores on MNF and the team's first signal-caller to throw for five or more touchdowns in a regular-season or playoff game since Steve Young in Super Bowl XXIX against the Chargers. The Niners play the Bears on Sunday night in Week 17.
San Francisco 49ers RB Brian Robinson Jr. carried the ball five times for 20 yards in a Week 16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He was targeted once as a receiver but did not have a catch.

Link to storyIndianapolis Colts OG Dalton Tucker (shoulder) left the Week 16 game against the San Francisco 49ers due to a shoulder injury, and he is questionable to return.

Link to storyDenver Broncos LB Justin Strnad (leg) might be able to return for the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday, Dec. 25, and that would be welcome news with LB Dre Greenlaw (hamstring) pulling up late in the Week 16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Link to storyMiami Dolphins WR Dee Eskridge (toe) left the Week 16 game against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a toe injury. Head coach Mike McDaniel said he still needed more information on Eskridge's prognosis, so his status for Week 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers remains unclear.

Miami Dolphins OG James Daniels (pectoral) is unlikely to play in the final two games of the regular season, head coach Mike McDaniel indicated Monday, Dec. 22. He suffered a pectoral injury in Week 1, and he has been on the Reserve/Injured list ever since.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins S Minkah Fitzpatrick (calf) is still considered week-to-week ahead of the Week 17 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to head coach Mike McDaniel on Monday, Dec. 22.
