Link to storyGiants WR Malik Nabers underwent a second surgery on his knee to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness, sources tell the Athletic's Dan Duggan.
Footballguys view: Duggan is told the second surgery took place "multiple weeks ago," and it was described as a "clean up." This second surgery isn't expected to impact Nabers' recovery timeline. The team is still hoping the No. 1 WR will be ready for the opener. Fantasy managers, who are drafting him as WR8, seem to share in the Giants' optimism. Nabers first underwent ACL and meniscus surgery on Oct. 28.

Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers K Chris Boswell signed his four-year contract extension with the team on Wednesday, May 13, worth $28 million.
Footballguys view: As previously reported here, the annual average of Boswell's new deal -- $6.22 million -- ranks fourth among league kickers. Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys, who signed a four-year, $28 million deal last month, has the highest annual average. Boswell ranks fifth in NFL history in field goal accuracy at 87.7 percent. He is the only kicker with more than 10 career playoff attempts to convert every one, going 19 for 19. Boswell's Footballguys projection -- PK11 -- puts him in the starting tier.

New England Patriots seventh-round pick DE Quintayvious Hutchins was arraigned Wednesday, May 13, in Newton District Court on charges of assault and battery on a family/household member, per court documents. Hutchins pleaded not guilty and was released on personal recognizance.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers third-round pick QB Drew Allar is having everything he has learned 'uninstalled,' and the Steelers are teaching him new mechanics and footwork. Head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth are working on widening Allar's base and keeping him off of his toes, which they believe will give him more time to process information for quicker decisions.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Brooke Pryor notes, at 6-5 with a wide arm span and nearly 10-inch hands, Allar possesses the raw traits McCarthy looks for in his West Coast-style quarterbacks. And as a three-year starter at Penn State with 61 career touchdowns and 7,402 career passing yards, Allar has the pedigree to be a top-tier signal-caller. Still, Allar's mechanics need work to make him a more consistent player. The real question here, of course, is whether Aaron Rodgers will show up and be the starter this year, or if the Steelers need to work on Allar and their other options.
Monday was the first team workout for the Cowboys since Pickens signed the one-year, $27.3 million deal, and Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Pickens was not present.
Footballguys view: Pickens signed his franchise tag on April 29, and executive vice president Stephen Jones said soon after that the team expected Pickens to show up for voluntary work. Nothing is mandatory until June 16, so he can stay away until then without being fined. The Cowboys announced they will not negotiate a long-term deal with Pickens this offseason, and Jones has repeatedly said the team has "zero interest" in trading Pickens. The Cowboys traded for Pickens a year ago, and he led the team in targets (137), catches (93), yards (1,429), and touchdowns (eight) in 2025.
The uncertainty of Michael Penix's return from a torn ACL led the Falcons to sign veteran Tua Tagovailoa. Penix's rehab seems to have ramped up as he seeks to enter the quarterback competition. Penix is throwing again six months after injuring his left knee in a game against the Panthers.
Footballguys view: The Falcons posted video of Penix throwing to wide receiver Drake London at the team's facility in Georgia. A team spokesperson told Marc Raimondi of ESPN that Penix is participating in Phase 2 of the Falcons' offseason program, which consists of drills and individual work. Penix, 26, has torn an ACL three times in eight years, twice tearing the ACL in his right knee while in college. He expects to be ready for Week 1, but will that be soon enough to put him in a position to compete with Tua Tagovailoa for the job? Stay tuned.

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young had his fifth-year extension picked up, but the Panthers are reportedly talking through an extension and GM Dan Morgan will be in touch with Young's agent, according to an interview on NFL Network on Tuesday, May 12.
Footballguys view: The Panthers have Young under contract for two more years. ESPN's Dan Graziano noted on Tuesday that the team "doesn't seem in a huge hurry" to work out an extension with the former first overall pick. The hesitancy on Carolina's part stems from the fact that the QB market got absolutely nuked with young quarterbacks signing record-setting deals, and it needs to adjust back. As AtoZSports' Ken Noble suggested, the Panthers are smart by letting the QB market cool back down before paying Young. For our purposes, Young remains a low-end QB2.

Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett was informed by the team that he is their starting quarterback, despite missing voluntary workouts, according to a source on Tuesday, May 11.
Footballguys view: Brissett wants a restructured contract for the final season of the two-year deal he signed in March 2025. He finished last season as the top-ranked quarterback from Week 6, when he was given his first start after Kyler Murray was injured, in terms of dropbacks, completions, and attempts. He was second in passing yards and fourth in completion percentage above expected. As Brissett had a career year, he brought along pass catchers Michael Wilson and Trey McBride with him. But the Cardinals went 1-11 as a starter. It's fair to wonder if he'll get as many attempts this season.

Undrafted free-agent CB Paul Manning (Henderson State) was signed by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, May 12. In a corresponding move, the Broncos have cut CB Will Wright.
Link to storyDenver Broncos RB Deuce Vaughn was waived on Tuesday, May 12.
Footballguys view: Vaughn entered the league with the Dallas Cowboys as a sixth-round pick out of Kansas State in the 2023 NFL draft. He totaled 168 yards from scrimmage on 50 touches in 14 career games in Dallas before landing on Denver's practice squad last summer. He did not appear in any games last season.

Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka will reportedly settle in as the 'Z' outside receiver, or flanker, after playing numerous spots as a rookie, according to Buccaneers.com's Scott Smith on Tuesday, May 12.
Footballguys view: Incoming Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson used to coach Cooper Kupp with the Rams, and he said on Tuesday that Egbuka has a very similar approach and instincts. The coach also confirmed the plan is for Egbuka to settle into the flanker role in the team's base offense, but that his football instincts make it easy to move him around in order to exploit matchups and maximize the production of the passing game this fall. Egbuka, who was WR4 over the first five games last year, is currently being drafted as WR19.
The Buffalo Bills signed WR Skyler Bell and LB Kaleb Elarms-Orr to four-year rookie contracts. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving (shoulder) will be limited at the start of OTAs.
Footballguys view: Irving is recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. According to local reports, the hope is that he'll be fully cleared by training camp. While he has been participating in rehab, team officials are taking a cautious approach to his return to full practice. We'll be watching for more on Irving in coming weeks. In the meantime, free-agent addition Kenneth Gainwell will get more work as the team installs new coordinator Zac Robinson's scheme.
Free agent TE Shane Zylstra (Lions) signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, May 12. In a corresponding move, the team released K Maddux Trujillo.
Footballguys view: Zylstra has appeared in 35 games with six starts in his career, all for the Lions. He's caught 18 passes for 136 yards with four touchdowns. Primarily a blocker, Zylstra joins a depth chart with Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, and Jackson Hawes ahead of him.
The Detroit Lions signed OT Blake Miller, DE Derrick Moore, LB Jimmy Rolder, CB Keith Abney II, WR Kendrick Law, DL Skyler Gill-Howard, and DL Tyre West to their rookie contracts on Tuesday, May 12.
Link to storyTennessee Titans WR Carnell Tate signed his rookie deal with the team on Tuesday, May 12. The contract is a four-year, $51.1 million deal that includes a $33,649,028 signing bonus.
Footballguys view: As Footballguy Sigmund Bloom suggests, Tate will become Cam Ward's No. 1 receiver of the future and maybe present. Ward is an aggressive downfield passer, and Tate is a smooth separator and ball winner at all three levels of the field. Bloom advised readers to be willing to trade up for Tate, who should level off as a top 10-15 fantasy receiver as long as Ward's upward trajectory coming out of last season continues.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Zac Robinson told the media that RB Bucky Irving and RB Kenneth Gainwell, 'can kind of match each other in certain ways with what they can do in the pass game.'
Footballguys view: Gainwell, who was signed to replace the departed Rachaad White, rushed for 537 yards and five touchdowns on 4.7 yards per carry, and caught 73 passes for 486 yards and three touchdowns for the Steelers last year. He eclipsed 1,000 scrimmage yards on the season and was voted by his teammates as Steelers team MVP. With Irving coming off shoulder surgery performed earlier this year, Gainwell will get a chance to get a head start in the team's new offense. We expect a timeshare with Irving leading the way, but Gainwell's progress should be monitored.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers third-round pick WR Ted Hurst could fill the X-receiver spot, according to offensive coordinator Zac Robinson. Hurst can run, has great hands and is an instinctual player, according to Robinson.
Footballguys view: According to Tampa Bay Times staffer Rick Stroud, Hurst "owned" the Bucs' first rookie minicamp, drawing the most targets and making the most catches over two days of practice. Hurst has big shoes to fill if he's going to handle the vacated Mike Evans role. But he has the size (6-4, 210 pounds) and speed (4.42) to be a true X receiver like Evans, who can stretch a defense both vertically and horizontally. Still, keep expectations in check as Hurst starts his career behind Emeka Egbuka, Chris Godwin Jr., and Jalen McMillan at the top of the depth chart.
Washington Commanders first-round pick LB Sonny Styles impressed at rookie minicamp. According to beat writer JP Finlay, Styles looked fluid, quick and smart. In seven-on-seven passing drills, any time a pass went near the line of scrimmage or towards the middle of the field, it seemed like Styles was in perfect position to absolutely blast the receiver.
Footballguys view: As Footballguy Sigmund Bloom noted, Styles is going to be an every-down linebacker who might have untapped potential to rack up sacks as a blitzer. The best case for taking Styles is that a 35-year-old Bobby Wagner was a top 10 fantasy linebacker last year, and Styles at his peak can be better. Bloom advises checking your scoring and lineups. If three off-ball linebackers start (or four with an IDP flex) and it's a tackle-heavy (2 points or more per tackle, 1 point or more per assist) league, Styles could be worth as high as the No. 3 pick.
Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel outlined his plan to reshape the way Justin Herbert plays quarterback: refining Herbert's footwork, timing, and anticipation to unlock the "best football of his career." In McDaniel's first news conference, he said that he planned to make sure that the offense didn't rely too much on "Justin's ability to do above and beyond."
Footballguys view: McDaniel pointed to the success Herbert has had with 2.4 seconds to throw or on extended plays. According to ESPN research, Herbert threw six touchdowns to three interceptions last season on throws released within 2.4 seconds. Once plays extended into the intermediate timing window, between roughly 2.4 and 3.5 seconds, his efficiency dipped. But when plays stretched beyond structure, Herbert again became one of the league's most productive quarterbacks, throwing 10 touchdowns while being sacked an NFL-high 49 times. With a bolstered offensive line and McDaniel on board, optimism is high. Herbert is currently QB8 on the Footballguys Projections.

When trade rumors swirled about Texans wide receiver Nico Collins ahead of the draft, general manager Nick Caserio didn't hesitate to make it clear that the team has no interest in parting ways with the wideout. Caserio said anyone thinking that a trade could happen "can shove it" because the Texans won't be making a deal. That sounds like it was music to Collins' ears because he said this weekend that he does not have any interest in wearing a different uniform. "I love the Texans," Collins said. "I got drafted here . . . It's definitely a place I would like to retire."
Footballguys view: As PFT's Josh Alper notes, while Collins wants to stick around the Texans, the business side of things will always play a role in how a career plays out, and Collins has slipped down the list of best-paid wideouts since signing an extension in 2024. That deal could be revisited, but a failure to find common ground could lead to different thoughts about a shared future in Houston. For now, Collins, who finished as WR8 despite missing two games last season, heads into 2026 as WR9 on the Footballguys 2026 Draft Projections.

Jacoby Brissett has not been taking part in the team's offseason workouts as he looks for an adjustment to his current contract. Coach Mike LaFleur was asked about where things stand regarding conversations that would lead to Brissett joining the team. "Ongoing. Everything's good from a dialogue standpoint," LaFleur said. "Like we said, this is voluntary. So that's where we'll leave it."
Footballguys view: LaFleur was also asked if he felt "behind the 8-ball" because Brissett is missing time in a new offense. "He's played a lot of football," LaFleur said. "We're in communication; he knows what the expectation is." All signs point to a new deal getting done and Brissett, who was QB6 in 12 games as the starter last year, opening the season in that same role. But the Cardinals also went 1-11 in Brissett's starts. Meanwhile, Carson Beck and Gardner Minshew will be getting more work as long as Brissett is away from the team. We'll continue to monitor the situation.
