Raiders | Thayer Munford may start at RT    Sat May 11, 12:25 PM

Las Vegas Raiders OT Thayer Munford Jr. has a chance to start at right tackle in 2024, with head coach Antonio Pierce saying on Friday, May 10, that the job is Munford's 'for the taking.'

Footballguys view: The Raiders have three starters on the offensive line set, but it's not clear who will play right tackle and one of the guard positions. There should be some good competition at both spots with the additions in free agency and the draft this offseason.

Raiders | Jackson Powers-Johnson plays LG    Sat May 11, 12:12 PM

Las Vegas Raiders OG Jackson Powers-Johnson saw time at left guard on Day 1 of rookie minicamp on Friday, May 10.

Footballguys view: Powers-Johnson should be a day one starter on the interior line for the Raiders. Like all rookies, there could be some bumps in the road of transition to the NFL, but the second round pick and widely regarded pro-ready player should improve the Raiders offense.

Raiders | Brock Bowers looking for big plays    Sat May 11, 09:54 AM

Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers said one of his strengths is making plays after the catch. 'One of the things I do best is the yards after catch and being able to get vertical after I get the ball,' Bowers said.

Footballguys view: The Raiders reportedly used Bowers all over the formation in his rookie minicamp debut. His athleticism was also apparent according to beat writers. This is relevant because Bowers didn't test at the combine, casting a little bit of doubt about his measureables. Expect Bowers to answer those questions quickly as a big part of the offense in his rookie year. The quarterback situation and competition for targets isn't ideal for Bowers fantasy value, but he's still worth taking in the top 10 tight ends in redraft leagues and top five of rookie drafts in dynasty leagues.

Raiders | Aidan O'Connell to receive first snaps    Sat May 11, 09:54 AM

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell will initially work with the first-team offense when offseason workouts begin, according to head coach Antonio Pierce.

Footballguys view: This shouldn't be a surprise, as O'Connell was actually pretty good for a fourth round rookie last year and that's with a midseason coaching change. If O'Connell is good enough to beat out Gardner Minshew, he should be better for Davante Adams and the rest of the Raiders offense fantasy value than Minshew. He should be rostered in superflex dynasty leagues.

Raiders | QB competition in Vegas    Fri May 10, 10:20 AM

Las Vegas Raiders QBs Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew will compete for the starting quarterback position in training camp, according to general manager Tom Telesco.

Footballguys view: Minshew has plenty of starting experience, and he's going to be tough to beat. We like O'Connell, and he did show flashes as a rookie starter in 2023. This is a competition for Fantasy GMs to monitor in training camp. Either one has QB2 potential from a fantasy perspective in 2024.

Raiders | Vegas will not pressure Brock Bowers     Thu May 9, 12:52 AM

Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers will not be pressured to have an immediate impact on offense, according to assistant general manager Champ Kelly. Kelly said the team wants Bowers to learn the offensive system and work well with the other tight ends on the team.

Footballguys view: Bowers was the best tight end in this draft, and he has playmaking ability as a slot receiver, out wide as a receiver, and as a traditional tight end. Bowers finds the ball quickly, and he's a smooth athlete who knows how to find soft spots in coverage. From a fantasy perspective, Bowers could easily have low-end TE1 potential as a rookie.

Footballguys view: Guyton was undrafted in 2019 and wound up with the Chargers after spending a brief period with the Cowboys. Guyton's time in Los Angeles came with now Raiders general manager Tom Telesco in that same role for the Chargers. Guyton caught 71 passes for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns. He was a regular contributor in 2020 and 2021 but tore his ACL early in 2022 and returned to play in eight games last season. He'll join fellow newcomer Michael Gallup to provide depth behind starters Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who will likely line up in various spots this season.

Raiders | Michael Gallup joining Raiders    Mon Apr 29, 07:25 PM

Free-agent WR Michael Gallup (Cowboys) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders Monday, April 29, worth as much as $3 million, according to sources.

Footballguys view: As ESPN.com notes, Gallup's signing is intriguing in that the Raiders already have a bevy of pass catchers on the roster: Three-time first-team All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, who has at least 100 catches in five of his last six seasons; Jakobi Meyers, who had a career-high eight touchdown catches last season; Tre Tucker, who averaged 17.4 yards per catch as a rookie in 2023; and a trio of pass-catching tight ends in Michael Mayer, who had 27 catches for 304 yards and 2 TDs as a rookie last season, veteran Harrison Bryant, who signed as a free agent in March after catching 89 passes and 10 TDs in four years with the Cleveland Browns, and first-round draft pick Brock Bowers, who caught 175 passes for 2,537 yards and 26 touchdowns in three years at Georgia. The team moved on from Hunter Renfrow this offseason. Gallup's best season came in 2019 when he caught 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect similar totals in Vegas this season, with Gallup apparently on board to provide depth.

Las Vegas Raiders general manager Tom Telesco said he didn't try 'particularly hard' to move up in the 2024 NFL Draft.

They may have selected QB Michael Penix, but when the Falcons shocked everyone and took him at no.8 the Raiders just stayed put at no.13. With that pick, the Raiders secured a fine tight end in Brock Bowers.
