Welcome to Week 11 of the 2023 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. We split the conversation into separate features.
This week's roundtable features these four topics:
- Faith/Fear: Players We Trust-Players Who Scare Us
- Waiver-Wire Prospecting: Most-Least Likely to Add
- QB Perception Game: Who Is Better/Worse Than Their Perceived Value
- Either/Or: The TE Edition (see below)
Let's roll.
Either/Or: The TE Edition
Matt Waldman: Which player would you rather have for the rest of the season?
Let's begin with Hockenson or Andrews...
Jason Wood: I'll opt for Hockenson by a small margin, but these are two of the few tight ends you should feel great about having in your weekly lineup. Hockenson gets the edge because he has more volume (80 targets versus 59), and quarterback Josh Dobbs isn't likely to throw downfield as effectively as he will pepper the short and intermediate routes, even when Justin Jefferson returns. Hockenson has outscored Andrews 16.3 to 14.6 per week (PPR), and both have very easy schedules remaining.
Phil Alexander: I would rather have T.J. Hockenson than Mark Andrews by the slimmest of margins. Both of these guys are top-3 options at the position for the rest of the season, but Hockenson will mix in fewer duds along with his top-end weekly finishes. It's not a coincidence that Hockenson has earned a whopping 27 targets in Joshua Dobbs' first two games as Minnesota's quarterback. During his eight games with the Cardinals, 36% of Dobbs' pass attempts went to his tight ends. As great as Andrews is, he'll project for about 60% of Hockenson's target volume most weeks.
Adam Wilde: I would rather have T.J. Hockenson over any tight end for the rest of the season, including Travis Kelce. He's been targeted eight or more times in all but one game. He hasn't missed a beat in his first two games with Joshua Dobbs. Dobbs has targeted him a whopping 27 times. While Justin Jefferson will demand a heavy workload upon his return, Hockenson will remain a focal point.
