Sunday Morning Update 9:43AM EST
The big story that we're monitoring is the health of Ja'Marr Chase. If Chase misses, Trent Irwin becomes an excellent play this week. I have some family obligations this morning, so I'm not sure how real-time an update will be based on Chase's status.
So, we are posting two scenarios here for the morning update:
If Ja'Marr Chase is active, no change to the Primary Cash Lineup
- QB Geno Smith, SEA, $6,900
- RB Aaron Jones, GB, $6,800
- RB Bijan Robinson, ATL, $6,600
- WR CeeDee Lamb, DAL, $8,900
- WR Tank Dell, HOU, $6,400
- WR Tyler Boyd, CIN, $6,200
- TE Trey McBride, ARI, $5,100
- Flex RB Tony Pollard, DAL, $7,800
- TD Dallas Cowboys $5,200
If Ja'Marr Chase is out, here is the updated lineup:
- QB Geno Smith, SEA, $6,900
- RB Aaron Jones, GB, $6,800
- RB Joe Mixon, CIN, $7,700
- WR CeeDee Lamb, DAL, $8,900
- WR Tank Dell, HOU, $6,400
- WR Trent Irwin, CIN, $4,800
- TE Trey McBride, ARI, $5,100
- Flex RB Tony Pollard, DAL, $7,800
- TD Dallas Cowboys $5,200
SITUATIONS THAT STAND OUT TO THIS WEEK ON THE MAIN SLATE.
- Dallas (vs NYG) – 27.25 points
- Cincinnati (vs HOU) – 26.75 points
- Seattle (vs WAS) – 25.75 points
- Detroit (at LAC) – 25.0 points
Week 9 Recap
Last week hurt. We are officially in a slump after the abysmal performance in Week 9. There's no way to sugar coat it, other than the lineup needs to be better.
Total points scored- 100.88
- QB Lamar Jackson, BAL, $8,600- 11.48
- RB Saquon Barkley, NYG, $8,600- 12.8
- RB Tony Pollard, DAL, $6,600- 7.8
- WR Nico Collins, HOU, $6,800- 12.9
- WR Amari Cooper, CLE, $6,800- 22.4
- WR Michael Thomas, NO, $5,900- 0.0
- TE Trey McBride, ARI, $5,300- 3.7
- Flex RB Josh Jacobs, LV, $7,500-21.8
- TD New England Patriots, $3,700- 8.0
What went right:
- Amari Cooper was fantastic. He now has 90 yards or more in three straight games with Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback.
What went wrong:
- Picking the wrong Houston wide receiver was a killer. Tank Dell was outstanding as he had 6 receptions for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. While Collins wasn’t bad with 12.9 points, he was fourth in yards this week as Dalton Schultz, and Noah Brown also outscored him.
- Lamar Jackson is a tough one. If you told me that the Ravens were going to score 37 points, I would take Jackson every single time. It’s just unlucky that the touchdowns went to the running backs as they had 4 rushing touchdowns in the game.
- Trey McBride was just a bad play. It was shocking how poorly the Cardinals offense was with Clayton Tune starting.
- Michael Thomas is banned from cash game viability. You simply can’t put up a 0.0 while playing 40 snaps and expect us to go back to Thomas any time soon.
Injuries Create Opportunity:
- Dameon Pierce will miss this week. Devin Singletary likely gets the bulk of the carries, but he’s just not a great running back as we saw last week where he had just 2.0 yards-per-carry.
- Nico Collins will miss with a calf injury. Both Tank Dell and Noah Brown are cheap this week. The Bengals are a team that you can throw against, as they’ve allowed 300+ yards in two of their last three games.
- Tee Higgins will miss this week with a hamstring injury. Ja’Marr Chase is also questionable this week. This could open up opportunities for Tyler Boyd at just $6,200.
- Daniel Jones is out for the season with an ACL injury. Tommy Devito will get the start for the Giants, which should make the Cowboys one of the top defensive plays of the week.
- The Browns will be without David Bell and Marquise Goodwin this week. This will leave the Browns very thin at the wide receiver position. It is a difficult matchup, but Amari Cooper and David Njoku should see a boost this week.
Week 10 Thoughts Trying to Keep Steady:
It’s always weird trying to bounce back after a losing cash game week, and really a bad couple of weeks. It’s easy to say to try to stick with the process, or that continue to put in the work. It’s simple to just say that there is variance in this sport and the reality is that is impossible to go undefeated in a season.
However, as easy it is to say these things, it is incredibly difficult not to try to make irrational changes because of a couple of bad weeks. Reminding yourself that most of the low-hanging fruit who built atrocious lineups several years ago are long gone, and now we are in the era of a highly competitive lineup-building process where 95% of lineups are projected to be within 1-2 points of each other and trying to find an edge is harder than it has ever been.
This week, it is really going to be about figuring out what to do with Dallas. The Cowboys are massive favorites this week. Trying to figure out what to do with both CeeDee Lamb and Tony Pollard is a headache of a situation. Last week, Josh Jacobs was able to do most of the damage against the Giants, while Davante Adams had a poor game. However, from Week 3 through Week 8, five number-one wide receivers had 90 yards or more against this Giants' defense in six games. There are a few options here, you could play both, you could play Lamb, or you could play just Pollard. Playing both, while it has its risks does increase your floor, especially considering that the other running back in that price range Joe Mixon is also likely going to be paired with a teammate in Tyler Boyd who is an excellent value play this week.
