Seahawks | Seattle acquires Avery Smith Sun Aug 30, 03:04 PM
Los Angeles Chargers CB Avery Smith was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Aug. 30, in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round draft choice, according to sources.
Link to storyAtlanta Falcons TE Nick Muse was released Sunday, Aug. 30. The team hoping to re-sign him to the practice squad, a source said.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys RB Phil Mafah was released on Sunday, Aug. 30.
Footballguys view: Malik Davis is the clear #2 back with both 2025 draft picks - Mafah and Jaydon Blue - released today. Davis is worth drafting in deep leagues simply because of the quality of the Cowboys offense and running game.
Chicago Bears WR Luther Burden III (groin) 'looks 100%' and to plan on him being available in Week 1, according to HC Ben Johnson on Saturday, Aug, 29.
Footballguys view: Burden's ADP didn't fall much after he suffered a groin injury early in camp, and it looks like he won't even miss a game. There's still the reconditioning period and playing at game speed without suffering a re-injury hurdles to get over before Burden is in the clear, but if you already drafted Burden earlier this summer or have him on a dynasty roster, this is the best news you could have hoped for. If you haven't drafted yet, know that you'll have to take Burden in the fourth round if you want him, and it wouldn't be shocking to see him go in the third round of some drafts now.
Pittsburgh Steelers OT Broderick Jones was traded to the Dallas Cowboys with a 2027 fourth-round pick in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to a source on Saturday, Aug. 29. The Cowboys have also released WR Denzel Mims in a corresponding move.
Footballguys view: The new regime in Pittsburgh had a chance to work with Jones - who did work hard to come back from a neck injury - and decided they would rather get their sixth round pick back from the George Pickens deal and add a bump from the fourth to third round next year. They have the luxury of doing this after UDFA Dylan Cook played well in place of Jones last year and then the team ended up taking a tackle (Max Ihenachor, who is already showing signs of development) in the first round after the Eagles moved ahead of them to snipe Makai Lemon. Jones is a former first round pick and the Cowboys will hope that he can function as their swing tackle while they coach him up to be a potential starter in the future.

Green Bay Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd is expected to serve as the starting running back to open the season, with RB Josh Jacobs on the commissioner exempt list. The team also just traded for RB Kaleb Johnson for depth at the position.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs is being placed on the commissioner exempt list on Sunday, Aug. 30, according to sources. Last week, Jacobs was charged with battery and criminal damage to property, both misdemeanors, by a district attorney in Wisconsin. He was originally arrested in late May on five counts, including one felony. Jacobs will not be available for the start of the NFL season, and it remains how long he'll be on the shelf.
Footballguys view: Jacobs court date is in mid-November, so if that is the measure of how long he will be out, he is barely worth drafting, and not ahead of someone like Jordyn Tyson, who will also be out for some unknown number of weeks, but offers instant fantasy value when he does return. It's possible Jacobs has played his last down with the Packers. MarShawn Lloyd moves up to the 6th round or so and could be a massive hit for fantasy if he can stay healthy. He hasn't in his first two season, but Lloyd visited the Meyer Institute of Sport this offseason and they showed him how changes to how he moved after his ACL tear in college were causing the cascading injuries. Chris Brooks will be the backup and play some passing downs, and new acquisition Kaleb Johnson will be the third string back.

Link to storyLas Vegas Raiders RB Dare Ogunbowale is being released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Aug. 30.
Footballguys view: This could be a good sign for Ashton Jeanty's Week 1 availability. Ogunbowale was the most experienced back on the roster, and would have been needed if the team expected to start rookie Mike Washington Jr. in Week 1 against Miami.

Green Bay Packers QB Kyle McCord was traded to the Miami Dolphins Sunday, Aug. 30, in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick, according to multiple sources.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers QB Kyle McCord was traded to the Miami Dolphins Sunday, Aug. 30, in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: McCord played very well (with Jordan Love even calling plays) in the final preseason game. The Packers don't need him with Tyrod Taylor backing up Jordan Love, and the Dolphins saw an opportunity to recoup some draft capital by trading Quinn Ewers to the Jaguars, who had soured on Nick Mullens as their backup quarterback. If Malik Willis misses time, McCord could start after going undrafted in 2025 out of Syracuse (after spending three years at Ohio State).

Link to storyMiami Dolphins WR Terrace Marshall Jr. was released Sunday, Aug. 30, according to a source.
Footballguys view: If the 26-year-old 2021 second round pick can't make the Dolphins wide receiver room - which will have three rookies on the opening day roster - then time is starting to run out on his NFL career.

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (Achilles) is expected to resume practicing this week, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He has not experienced any setbacks in his recovery from a torn Achilles and is still hopeful of playing in Week 1's game against the Los Angeles Rams Thursday, Sept. 10, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: This should clear up any worries after Kyle Shanahan's awkward wording "taken a step back" confused whether Kittle was still on track to return early in the season. It is still probably most prudent for him and the team to let him skip the trip and debut in Week 2, but that also gives Kittle an even better chance of being close to his old self when he steps back on the field. His fantasy stock is on the rise.

Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jalon Daniels will serve as the club's No. 2 quarterback behind QB Baker Mayfield, following the release of QB Jake Browning Sunday, Aug. 30, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: Daniels went undrafted in April, but he was a favorite of legendary NFL film guru Greg Cosell. He's worth monitoring, if not outright adding in superflex dynasty leagues with Baker Mayfield not under contract next year. Daniels has enough athleticism to add value as a runner, and the Bucs have a terrific young core at wide receiver.
