New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr (hand) underwent further examination recently, and he's unlikely to return this season. His left hand is fractured in multiple places, and he's unable to withstand contact.
| Footballguys view: Interim coach Darren Rizzi said on Monday that he was waiting to announce his Week 16 starter on the chance Carr could be cleared in time after missing just one week. Now, it appears his choices are down to Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. As NFL.com's Kevin Patra suggested, based on Sunday's performances in the narrow loss to Washington, it's not much of a choice. Haener got the start and couldn't move the ball, with the offense generating 38 net yards at halftime. Rattler entered at halftime and immediately jumpstarted the offense. The Saints scored on all four second-half possessions, including a final-second touchdown. A miss on the potential game-winning two-point try was the only thing that stopped New Orleans from stealing a victory. With a 1 percent chance of making the playoffs, it makes sense to give Rattler a longer look to see if he could be an option in 2025. |

Darren Rizzi said it's too soon in the week to project whether Saints QB Derek Carr could play Monday at Green Bay. But Rizzi did say it "wouldn't be a reach" to expect Carr to be cleared to play at some point before the season ends.
| Footballguys view: Rizzi added he would wait to declare which QB would take the first practice reps this week and potentially start if Carr can't play. While Jake Haener started Sunday's game against Washington, Spencer Rattler finished it. Haener finished 4-of-10 passing for 49 yards with an interception, while Rattler was 10-of-21 for 135 yards with a touchdown. Obviously, all signs point to Rattler, but Rizzi said since the Saints have a bonus day before Monday's game, he'll wait to make a decision -- or at least an announcement. |

Interim coach Darren Rizzi told reporters Monday that Alvin Kamara's injury is a groin abductor situation. Kamara told Rizzi the injury felt minor, and he noticed it on his touchdown catch, but the veteran RB will continue to go through tests. Asked specifically if the injury was minor, Rizzi said he wouldn't make a medical declaration.
| Footballguys view: Kamara made the most spectacular touchdown catch of Week 15 with a ridiculous one-handed grab, but shortly after, Kamara was out of the game and in the locker room with a groin strain. He was questionable to return, but never did. Kamara is considered day-to-day moving forward, according to NewOrleans. Football's Nick Underwood, pending MRI results. Kendre Miller would likely play a lead role against the Packers on Monday Night Football in Week 16. |

| Footballguys view: It's a groin injury for Kamara. The Saints almost won to stay alive in the playoff race, but the loss all but officially ends their season. You have to wonder if that will figure into the calculus of whether to play Kamara next week and for the rest of the season. Kendre Miller is the backup and should be a hot waiver wire pickup. The Saints travel to Green Bay next week as we'll await details on the nature and severity of Kamara's injury. |
