Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol following the Week 15 loss against the Denver Broncos, head coach Shane Steichen said Monday, Dec. 16.
| Footballguys view: Pierce's availability for the Colts' Week 16 game against Tennessee will be up in the air. He will have to clear protocol before being eligible to play. Pierce has emerged as one of the most productive downfield targets in football this season. His 26 targets of 20-plus yards lead the NFL, while his 428 yards on those passes are the third-most. Pierce has caught 29 passes for 645 yards at 22.2 yards per catch with five touchdowns. Pierce's 22.2 yards per reception is also the second-best mark in football. As USA Today's Colts Wire notes, Ashton Dulin has been on the injury report the last few weeks, dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of the Week 13 and 15 games. A more significant role for Adonai Mitchell may be in store this week depending on Pierce's availability. |

| Footballguys view: Pierce was evaluated for a concussion after his head collided hard with the turf on a jump ball in the end zone at the end of Sunday's first half against the Broncos. Trainers evaluated him on the field and took the fourth-year receiver to the locker room immediately. Pierce has suffered at least one concussion, an injury suffered in the first game of his career against Houston. If Pierce can't clear the protocol ahead of the team's Week 16 game against Titans, the Colts will have to turn to rookie WR Adonai Mitchell, who has been most comfortable when he's asked to play Pierce's position this season. We'll follow up as needed. |
