Vikings | J.J. McCarthy has smooth debut Sat May 11, 12:32 PM
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy's rookie minicamp debut 'went smoothly,' ESPN's Kevin Seifert wrote on Friday, May 10. McCarthy had a few incompletions and an interception during 7-on-7 drills but was good otherwise.
Footballguys view: Ideally for the Vikings Sam Darnold will stay healthy and play well enough to start most, if not all of the season, which will give McCarthy time to develop in the incubator. The main concern in his draft profile was a lack of experience, so the more time they can give him to prepare for his first NFL start, the better. |
Raiders | Thayer Munford may start at RT Sat May 11, 12:25 PM
Las Vegas Raiders OT Thayer Munford Jr. has a chance to start at right tackle in 2024, with head coach Antonio Pierce saying on Friday, May 10, that the job is Munford's 'for the taking.'
Footballguys view: The Raiders have three starters on the offensive line set, but it's not clear who will play right tackle and one of the guard positions. There should be some good competition at both spots with the additions in free agency and the draft this offseason. |

Raiders | What's the plan for Andrus Peat? Sat May 11, 12:22 PM
Las Vegas Raiders OL Andrus Peat will play at guard and be the backup at left tackle, head coach Antonio Pierce said on Friday, May 10. Pierce did not make it clear if Peat was in line for a starting guard spot, though.

Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers turned heads during Day 1 of rookie minicamp on Friday, May 10, due to his athleticism and explosiveness.
Link to storyRaiders | Jackson Powers-Johnson plays LG Sat May 11, 12:12 PM
Las Vegas Raiders OG Jackson Powers-Johnson saw time at left guard on Day 1 of rookie minicamp on Friday, May 10.
Footballguys view: Powers-Johnson should be a day one starter on the interior line for the Raiders. Like all rookies, there could be some bumps in the road of transition to the NFL, but the second round pick and widely regarded pro-ready player should improve the Raiders offense. |
Lions | Ennis Rakestraw feeling fine Sat May 11, 12:09 PM
Detroit Lions CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. was limited on Day 1 of rookie minicamp on Friday, May 10, but says he's feeling fine after core muscle surgery this offseason and he was limited out of precaution.

Lions | Sione Vaki lives up to billing Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Detroit Lions RB Sione Vaki was a 'beast on special teams' during the first day of rookie minicamp, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com, and general manager Brad Holmes said Vaki was the best special teams player in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Vaki was also listed exclusively at running back after being a two-way player and all-Pac 12 safety at Utah. If multiple injuries strike in the Lions backfield, remember his name. |
Giants | G-Men counting on Malik Nabers Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
New York Giants WR Malik Nabers is expected to have a big role and needs to learn the playbook as quickly as possible, head coach Brian Daboll said during rookie minicamp.
Footballguys view: It would have been more surprising to hear that the Giants were going to take it slow with Nabers. He'll likely be catching passes from Drew Lock Week 1, which makes it a little riskier to take him at his early best ball draft ADP in the third round. |
Raiders | Brock Bowers looking for big plays Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers said one of his strengths is making plays after the catch. 'One of the things I do best is the yards after catch and being able to get vertical after I get the ball,' Bowers said.
Footballguys view: The Raiders reportedly used Bowers all over the formation in his rookie minicamp debut. His athleticism was also apparent according to beat writers. This is relevant because Bowers didn't test at the combine, casting a little bit of doubt about his measureables. Expect Bowers to answer those questions quickly as a big part of the offense in his rookie year. The quarterback situation and competition for targets isn't ideal for Bowers fantasy value, but he's still worth taking in the top 10 tight ends in redraft leagues and top five of rookie drafts in dynasty leagues. |
Broncos | Denver, Bo Nix reach agreement Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Denver Broncos first-round draft choice QB Bo Nix agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Broncos Friday, May 10, according to a source. The deal includes a fifth-year option, but financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Nix is in a different situation than #8 pick Michael Penix and #10 pick J.C. McCarthy. They have Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold ahead of them, so their development will be patient and deliberate. The Broncos would have to turn to Jarrett Stidham if they don't start Nix, so expect the rookie to start Week 1. The Broncos aren't replete with skill position talent, so it could be a rough start to Nix's career if Sean Payton and he can't work any magic with the playbook. |
Raiders | Aidan O'Connell to receive first snaps Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell will initially work with the first-team offense when offseason workouts begin, according to head coach Antonio Pierce.
Footballguys view: This shouldn't be a surprise, as O'Connell was actually pretty good for a fourth round rookie last year and that's with a midseason coaching change. If O'Connell is good enough to beat out Gardner Minshew, he should be better for Davante Adams and the rest of the Raiders offense fantasy value than Minshew. He should be rostered in superflex dynasty leagues. |
Titans | JC Latham agrees to deal Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Tennessee Titans first-round draft choice OT JC Latham agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Titans Friday, May 10. The deal includes a fifth-year option, but the financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The Titans offensive line was a big sore spot in recent years, and helped contribute to the downfall of GM Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel. Latham will be the cornerstone of the new look unit. The team was hoping for Notre Dame's Joe Alt at pick #7, but the consensus #1 tackle in the class went to the Chargers at #5 instead. Latham is a massive and a people-mover in the running game, but he might be best suited at right tackle or even guard as a pass protector. |
Commanders | Four rookies sign contracts Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Washington Commanders third-round draft choice WR Luke McCaffrey, fifth-round draft choice LB Jordan Magee, fifth-round draft choice S Dominique Hampton, and seventh-round draft choice DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste signed four-year contracts with the Commanders Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: McCaffrey is Christian's little brother and Ed's son. Those bloodlines matter in the NFL, but so does his outstanding all-around athletic profile from the combine. He originally came to college as a quarterback, so the Commanders must believe that there's extra upside in McCaffrey's outlook. Don't expect a big splash this year, but if 2022 first round pick Jahan Dotson doesn't click with a new regime, McCaffrey could be an important target for #2 overall pick Jayden Daniels in a year or two. |
Buccaneers | Bucky Irving, Elijah Klein signed Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers fourth-round draft choice RB Bucky Irving and sixth-round draft choice OG Elijah Klein signed four-year contracts with the Buccaneers Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Irving is undersized and had a poor combine, but the same could have been said of Kyren Williams in 2022. For now, Irving is no threat to Rachaad White's fantasy value, but he should get more work as the backup to White than Chase Edmonds did. In the long term, Irving could surprise with his elusiveness and tackle-breaking ability. He's worth a third/fourth round pick in dynasty rookie drafts. |
Patriots | New England inks three draft picks Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
New England Patriots sixth-round draft choice CB Marcellas Dial, sixth-round draft choice QB Joe Milton III and seventh-round draft choice TE Jaheim Bell signed four-year contracts with the Patriots Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Bell has speed and run after catch prowess, but he's only an H-back/move tight end and not a consistent blocker, so he fell to the seventh round. If he makes the Patriots roster, he could find playing time in an offense devoid of playmakers. |
Jaguars | Gabe Davis limited Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Gabe Davis (knee) has been limited during offseason workouts because of a knee injury that he suffered during the 2023 season, according to head coach Doug Pederson.
Footballguys view: Davis's 2024 fantasy outlook was immediately dimmed when the team took LSU receiver Brian Thomas in the first round. Thomas has size and speed to be a deep threat outsid, which is Davis's calling card. If Davis isn't healthy going into training camp, Thomas could be a big part of the pass offense this year, and he could be even if Davis is healthy. Davis is only a late round consideration in fantasy drafts. |

Browns | Five draft picks under contract Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Cleveland Browns third-round draft choice OG Zak Zinter, fifth-round draft choice WR Jamari Thrash, sixth-round draft choice LB Nathaniel Watson, seventh-round draft choice CB Myles Harden and seventh-round draft choice DT Jowon Briggs signed four-year contracts with the Browns Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Thrash has the speed to threaten as a downfield receiver, but he's a bit of a finesse player who may struggle to shake more physical coverage in the NFL. He'll compete with 2022 sixth round pick Michael Woods II, former Raven James Proche, and former Buc Jaelon Darden for the Browns #6 receiver spot. |
Vikings | Three rookies ink deals with Minnesota Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Minnesota Vikings sixth-round draft choice PK Will Reichard (Alabama), seventh-round draft choice OL Michael Jurgens (Wake Forest) and seventh-round draft choice DL Levi Drake Rodriguez (Texas A&M - Commerce) signed four-year contracts on Friday, May 10. Financial terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: Reichard is the all-time leading scoring in college football history, and he was the first kicker drafted in April. He only has to beat out 2023 all-XFL kicker John Parker Romo to start for the Vikings this season. |
Falcons | Atlanta inks three sixth-round rookies Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Atlanta Falcons sixth-round draft choices RB Jase McClellan (Alabama), WR Casey Washington (Illinois) and DT Zion Logue (Georgia) signed four-year contracts on Friday, May 10. Financial terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: McClellan didn't quite live up to the Alabama draft pedigree, but he could be an effective inside runner and backup to Tyler Allgeier in that role if he makes the team. |
Chargers | Six rookies finalize deals with LA Chargers Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Los Angeles Chargers third-round draft choice LB Junior Colson (Michigan), fifth-round draft choice DB Tarheeb Still (Maryland), fifth-round draft choice DB Cam Hart (Notre Dame), sixth-round draft choice RB Kimani Vidal (Troy), seventh-round draft choice WR Brenden Rice (USC) and seventh-round draft choice WR Cornelius Johnson (Michigan) signed four-year contracts on Friday, May 10. Terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: Rice and Johnson are both big downfield options who will try to win playing time as an outside receiver for the Chargers. Vidal has a chance to play a big role in the backfield with only Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins in his way. The Chargers are basically a rebuilding team right now, so these third day draft picks should be given a chance to compete and play a role for the team this year. |
Bengals | Cincinnati inks five rookies Sat May 11, 09:54 AM
Cincinnati Bengals third-round draft choice DT McKinnley Jackson (Texas A&M), fifth-round draft choice CB Josh Newton (Texas Christian), sixth-round draft choice TE Tanner McLachlan (Arizona), seventh-round draft choice S Daijahn Anthony (Mississippi) and seventh-round draft choice C Matt Lee (Miami, Fla.) signed four-year contracts on Friday, May 10. Financial terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: McLachlan is the name to remember here. The Bengals took a very talented Iowa tight end - Erick All - in the fourth round, but he has a lengthy and worrisome injury history. If All can't stay healthy, McLachlan could be Joe Burrow's tight end of the future. McLachlan's 4.61 40 and 35" vertical were both among the top five tight ends at the combine. |
Patriots | Calvin Anderson had battled malaria Sat May 11, 08:58 AM
New England Patriots OT Calvin Anderson missed time during training camp last year because of malaria, after having contracted the illness on a trip to Nigeria. Later in the season, he suffered a heart contusion during practice which was not believed to be related to his bout with malaria. It had previously been unclear why Anderson had been unavailable for extended periods of time in 2023.

Free-agent WR Zay Jones (Jaguars) reportedly agreed to terms on a contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, May 10. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: Jones had a few teams interested (Titans, Chiefs, Cowboys), but it's the Cardinals who land him. If healthy, Jones can still produce consistently like he did in 2022 with the Jaguars. Jones will compete with Michael Wilson to be the no.2 wideout opposite of rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. |

Buccaneers | Jalen McMillan fully healed Fri May 10, 02:46 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers third-round draft choice WR Jalen McMillan (Washington) told reporters his sprained medial collateral ligament from last season is 100% as of Friday, May 10.
Footballguys view: McMillan has talent, and he's going to compete for the no.3 job on the depth chart behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Trey Palmer will be the primary competition for the spot. McMillan has a nice size/speed combination with reliable hands, but he may not be as fast as Palmer. |

Link to storyJaguars | Jacksonville still undecided about play-caller Fri May 10, 01:06 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson declined to answer if he will assume play-calling duties for the 2024 season.'(We) don't play a game until September. So, we've got some time (to decide that),' Pederson told reporters on Friday, May 10.
Footballguys view: It sounds like Pederson may resume most of the play-calling duties from OC Press Taylor. Last year, the Jaguars offense was inconsistent and they're not getting the most out of QB Trevor Lawrence. Pederson could be the guy calling the plays when the regular season opens. |
Bears | Caleb Williams officially starter Fri May 10, 12:39 PM
Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams was officially named the starter by head coach Matt Eberflus on Friday, May 10.
Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Williams is a generational talent, and it's on the Bears' staff to get the most out of him. There are plenty of weapons around him, and if Williams finished 2024 as a QB1 for Fantasy GMs we wouldn't be surprised. Right now, most are drafting him as a QB2 with upside. |
