Eagles | Defending champ Philadelphia eliminated at home Sun Jan 11, 07:53 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts completed 20-of-35 passes for 168 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in an NFC Wild Card game loss against the San Francisco 49ers, while running five times for 14 yards. RB Saquon Barkley rushed 26 times for a game-high 106 yards with three receptions for 25 yards on six targets. RB Tank Bigsby had four runs for 19 yards, with RB Will Shipley chipping in with a 6-yard grab on his lone touch and target. WR DeVonta Smith posted team bests with eight receptions and 70 yards on 11 targets, while new dad TE Dallas Goedert had four receptions for 33 yards and a TD, while also running for a 1-yard score. WR A.J. Brown had three receptions for 25 yards on seven targets, but he also had a key drop in the fourth quarter and a shouting match with head coach Nick Sirianni during the game. WR Darius Cooper had a 9-yard catch on his only target, while WR Jahan Dotson didn't have a catch on his lone target. DB Quinyon Mitchell had two interceptions and three passes defensed, while DE Jalen Carter had three total stops, a solo tackle, a sack, a tackle for loss and a QB hit.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 18-of-31 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while running nine times for 24 yards, in the NFC Wild Card game road win against the Philadelphia Eagles. RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 15 times for 48 yards, while posting six receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns, including a 29-yard TD from WR Jauan Jennings. The latter had one reception for 45 yards on three targets and the scoring strike. WR Demarcus Robinson led the way with six receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown on seven targets, while FB Kyle Juszczyk absorbed all four targets for 49 yards, with TE Jake Tonges posted a 14-yard catch on three targets, stepping in for TE George Kittle (Achilles), who had one grab for six yards before leaving with a ruptured Achilles. LB Garret Wallow had 11 total stops with five solo tackles and a pass defensed, while LB Eric Kendricks, a former Eagle, had 10 total stops with seven solo tackles, two stops for loss and a pass break-up to seal the win.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy completed an interview with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Jan. 11 for their head coaching vacancy.
Footballguys view: Nagy's first go round as a head coach with the 2018-21 Bears wasn't considered a success, but he did have a 34-31 record and make the playoffs twice with Mitchell Trubisky as his primary quarterback. The Chiefs offense hasn't been a smashing success since Nagy returned, but he still got a ring in 2022 and 2023.
Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (Achilles) has been ruled out for the remainder of the NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering a torn Achilles tendon on his first reception of the game in the second quarter.
Footballguys view: Kittle being ready for Week 1 next season is a stretch. Backup Jake Tonges was productive at times in place of Kittle earlier in the season. He is a restricted free agent, so the 49ers will have to pony up around $3.5M if they want to have the right to match any contract offered to Tonges, who went undrafted in 2022.

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (lower leg) suffered an apparent lower-leg injury on his first reception in the second quarter of the NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He immediately went down after his right leg was bent awkwardly, and he grabbed at the lower-leg area before being carted off.

San Francisco 49ers S Ji'Ayir Brown (hamstring) left the NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a hamstring injury. He is considered questionable to return.

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson completed a virtual interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the same position on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Footballguys view: The Bucs are looking at more experienced offensive coordinators over up and coming stars. This is a make or break for Todd Bowles, so the team is looking for results now. Baker Mayfield was actually very good against Houston and Seattle before getting hurt against Detroit in Week 7, so whoever the team hires may be a success even if they aren't any better than the recently-fired Josh Grizzard.

Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula has an interview request from the Arizona Cardinals for their head coaching vacancy.
Footballguys view: The Cardinals last head coach hire was the defensive coordinator of the NFC Super Bowl representative, so we could see that part of history repeat itself if the Rams are the NFC champs and the Cardinals hire Shula.
Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula has a request for interview for the head coach position with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Footballguys view: Like most every Rams assistant, Shula has created buzz going into this firing/hiring cycle. The Raiders would be smart to turn into that direction instead of the run of head coach hires that has consisted of chasing previous glory and picking the wrong interim head coach to promote.
Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula has a request from the Baltimore Ravens for their head coaching vacancy.
Footballguys view: Shula's defense hasn't been the strength of the team, but he has the Sean McVay pedigree and the Shula bloodline, as former Bengals head coach Dave's son and legendary Miami head coach Don's grandson. If he is able to bring Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase (who is also interviewing for Ravens head coach) or offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur (who is interviewing for the Raiders and Cardinals head coach), it could end up being a great hire.
Los Angeles Rams passing specialist Nate Scheelhaase has a request from the Baltimore Ravens for their head coaching vacancy.
Footballguys view: Scheelhaase is the latest in the Sean McVay coaching tree to become a hot name during the firing/hiring cycle. The 35-year-old has only worked for the Rams - or any other NFL team - for two years, and he has no head coaching experience, so this would be a huge promotion. If Scheelhaase hits it off with Lamar Jackson, he could be a surprise contender for the job.
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence completed 18-of-30 passes for 207 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, while running six times for 31 yards. RB Travis Etienne Jr. rushed 10 times for a game-high 67 yards, while RB Bhayshul Tuten ran four times for 51 yards. On the receiving end, WR Parker Washington hauled in seven receptions for a game-best 107 yards and a touchdown, while Etienne added five grabs for 49 yards and a score, and WR Brian Thomas Jr. had two catches for 21 yards and a TD. WR Jakobi Meyers was targeted four times, but managed just a single 12-yard catch, while TE Brenton Strange converted his five targets into just two grabs and nine yards. LB Devin Lloyd led the way with five solo tackles, an assist and a fumble recovery, while S Eric Murray had seven total stops and four solo tackles, and DE Josh Hines-Allen had four total stops, three solo tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and two quarterback hits.
Footballguys view: It wasn't a flawless game by Lawrence, but it would have been good enough to beat most of the teams in the AFC playoff bracket, and he was productive against a good Bills pass defense. The Jaguars were stopped on fourth down inside the Bills 10 after recovering a Ray Davis fumbled kickoff return and Cam Little missed a 54-yard field goal attempt at the half awarded on a controversial call. You can't expect to beat Josh Allen in the postseason when you miss multiple scoring opportunities. The future is still bright for this team and for Lawrence (who will get Travis Hunter back). The biggest decision this offseason will be whether to sign Travis Etienne, who is due to hit free agency in March.

RB James Cook rushed for 46 yards on 15 carries and also caught two passes for five yards. WR Khalil Shakir caught 12 passes for 82 yards on 12 targets. WR Brandin Cooks caught three passes for 58 yards on five targets, while WR Keon Coleman caught one pass for 36 yards on one target. TE Dawson Knox caught three passes for 30 yards on three targets, while TE Dalton Kincaid caught three passes for 28 yards and one touchdown on five targets. Carolina Panthers impending free-agent Rico Dowdle said his decreased role late in the season will impact his interest in returning to the team. Dowdle said he wants to play for a team where he receives a majority of the carries during the game.
Footballguys view: The running back free agent market is very strong, led by Breece Hall, Ken Walker, and Travis Etienne, so Dowdle might not be able to get the lead back role he's looking for. Chuba Hubbard was the favored back in the near upset of the Rams, and the Panthers have 2025 fourth round pick Trevor Etienne and 2024 second round pick Jonathon Brooks (who is coming back from a second torn ACL), so Dowdle coming back to Carolina wasn't very likely even before these comments.

Carolina Panthers OT Ikem Ekwonu (knee) has a torn patellar tendon and will undergo surgery, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: Recovery from patellar tendon surgery ranges from 6-12 months, so the Panthers can't count on having Ekwonu for camp or Week 1, and it's not certain that he will play next season at all. The Panthers had serviceable backup left tackle options on the roster this season in Brady Christensen (who suffered a torn achilles in Week 8) and Yosh Nijman, but neither is under contract next year, so the team has some work to do at tackle this offseason.
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) has been dealing with an aggravation of an old bone injury on the side of his foot for most of the second half of this season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. However, the injury is reportedly as good as it's been in quite some time. For Allen, it is a matter of pain tolerance and he is not at risk of sustaining further injury.
