Falcons | Zachariah Branch stood out at OTAs Tue May 19, 06:59 PM
Atlanta Falcons WR Zachariah Branch reportedly stood out at Falcons OTAs, with an explosive catch-and-run during offense vs. defense, and overall, standing out amongst the offensive players, in the opinion of Daniel Flick of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday, May 19.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen is participating in offseason workouts after undergoing surgery at the end of January to remove a bone chip in his right foot, according to a source on Tuesday, May 19.
Footballguys view: "You guys know Josh," head coach Joe Brady said, via Sal Capaccio of WGR 550. "He's good to go." Allen suffered the injury in the Week 16 game against the Browns, but didn't miss any games due to the issue. Allen's presence will give him plenty of time to get to know the new wide receiver, DJ Moore. The Bills traded a second-round pick to the Bears for Moore, who is Buffalo's new No. 1 receiver. To review: Fully healthy and with an additional weapon, Allen's QB1 ADP isn't changing any time soon.

Buffalo Bills RB James Cook was not at the team's OTAs on Tuesday, May 19. This was a voluntary session for the team.
Footballguys view: There's no reporting -- or even speculation -- on the reason for today's absence. So there's no need to get too far in front of this. We'll watch for more and report back as needed. Cook, who got a contract extension last season, has rushed for 1,000 yards in three straight seasons, including a career-best 1,621 in 2025 for his first-ever rushing title. He also posted a 2024 campaign where he was one of only three players with 18 or more touchdowns, as his 16 rushing scores tied for the most in the league. We'll follow up as needed.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice violated his parole by testing positive for marijuana on Tuesday, May 19. He will serve 30 days in jail and will miss the team's OTAs and mandatory mini-camp.
Footballguys view: If missed OTA and minicamp sessions are as bad as it gets, this could be forgotten in September. Rice missed the first six games of 2025 due to the suspension for his role in the six-car crash that led to his probation. He finished the year with 53 receptions, 571 yards, and five touchdowns, missing the final few games due to a concussion. The possibility of league discipline is the issue now. Earlier this year, Rice was accused of domestic assault. The NFL investigated and determined Rice would not be suspended for a second time. Could that change? Stay tuned.

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was not at the team's OTA practices on Tuesday, May 19.
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com notes, Jackson has been an infrequent participant in voluntary work over the years, but he was present for the early days of the team's first program since hiring head coach Jesse Minter early in the offseason. "Lamar's been one of our leaders of the offseason program," Minter said Tuesday. "Couple of things going on yesterday and today, do expect him to be back soon." A $750,000 workout bonus hasn't motivated Jackson in past seasons; we'll see if Minter can this year. Stay tuned.

Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert was not present at the open practice session on Tuesday, May 19. Herbert has not been present at any of the Chargers' offseason programs yet.
Footballguys view: Backup quarterbacks Trey Lance and DJ Uiagalelei are taking the reps in place of Herbert. The Chargers have only three quarterbacks on their roster. Herbert, 28, threw for 3,727 yards with 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 16 games last season. He did all this despite playing behind a depleted offensive line, and, late in the season, with a broken bone in his left (non-throwing) hand. Currently being drafted as QB11, Herbert should benefit from having Mike McDaniel as his playcaller and from an upgraded supporting cast. All he needs to do is show up. We'll watch for more.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. and QB Tua Tagovailoa will split first-team reps early in OTAs, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Footballguys view: The uncertainty of Penix Jr.'s return from a torn ACL led the Falcons to sign Tagovailoa. But Penix is ramping up his workload as he seeks to enter the quarterback competition. Penix is participating in Phase 2 of the Falcons' offseason program, which consists of drills and individual work. Penix has said he expects to be ready for Week 1, but will that be soon enough to put him in a position to compete with Tagovailoa for the job? We see Tua as the early favorite, but it's a situation to watch.

Green Bay Packers director of football operations Milt Hendrickson was promoted to vice president of player personnel Tuesday, May 19. John Wojciechowski was promoted to director-football operations. Other promotions include: director of player personnel Richmond Williams, director of pro scouting Lee Gissendaner, senior player personnel executive Matt Malaspina, director of college scouting Pat Moore, senior national scout Sam Seale, national scout Luke Benuska and assistant director of pro scouting Mike Owen.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane reported to organized team activities Tuesday, May 19.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins' new brass made a statement by rewarding Achane with a four-year, $64 million contract extension last week. Achane, who led the league with 5.7 yards per carry in 2025, has been around the building throughout the offseason, head coach Jeff Hafley said. "It's not like he just showed up after he signed his contract," Hafley said. "He's a great player, and I'm really glad we have him." Achane finished 2025 with 1,350 rushing yards with eight touchdowns, plus 67 receptions for 488 yards with four TDs. Expect to pay a first-round price to secure his services.
San Francisco 49ers WR Jordan Watkins and WR Jacob Cowing are competing for the WR5 spot on the depth chart.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers WR Christian Kirk and WR De'Zhaun Stribling will compete for the slot-receiver role. Kirk is also likely to be the backup at the Z spot.
Footballguys view: While Stribling is a great fit in San Francisco, he might be more of a long-term project. SI.com predicts the rookie will enter Week 1 as the fourth receiver behind Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, and Kirk. This will give Stribling time to develop his route running. The 49ers planned for this and only signed Kirk to a one-year deal. That opens the door for Stribling to take his spot next season and be a consistent contributor to the offense. But this year, Kirk is likely to be the more productive player.

Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett continued his contract holdout Monday as the club held its first OTA under new coach Mike LaFleur, who told reporters the discussions about a reworked deal for the 2026 season are the "same as where we were a few weeks ago." LaFleur added that he has been in contact with Brissett but declined to go into further detail about their conversations.
Footballguys view: LaFleur pointed out that Monday's practice was voluntary and that Brissett's experience will help him understand what the Cardinals are doing offensively under the first-time head coach. The only difference, LaFleur said, was the contrast in verbiage. Brissett, who has reportedly been told he will be the starter, has not attended any of the Cardinals' voluntary offseason program thus far. Arizona is holding a mandatory minicamp for veterans and rookies June 8-10. Brissett, who started 12 games for Arizona last season, wants a restructured contract for the final season of the two-year deal he signed in March 2025.

New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo said that he's 'feeling great' and that he's 'ready to go for Week 1' at New York Giants Town Hall on Monday, May 18.
Footballguys view: Skattebo's rookie campaign ended in Week 8 last year with a gruesome-looking dislocated ankle injury. He told reporters at the end of last season that he was making progress and even hoped to do some light work in the offseason. That won't be the case, at least not in terms of doing team drills. Even though he feels great, Skattebo is still "a little ways off" from a return to the field. Training camp is still two months away, and the 2026 season is even further out, so we'll continue to monitor.
New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh when talking about TE Isaiah Likely, TE Theo Johnson, TE Chris Manhertz, and TE Thomas Fidone II, said, 'there's not a better tight end room in the league,' according to a source on Monday, May 18.
Footballguys view: Harbaugh coached Likely for four seasons in Baltimore. He knows what Likely can bring to an offense. Likely served as a TE2 in Baltimore behind three-time Pro Bowler Mark Andrews. The Ravens were always at the top of the league in rushing with the two-tight end set. The Giants hope to establish the same offense, and Likely will play a major role along with Johnson. Having Likely and Johnson both on the field would allow the Ravens to run or pass in a variety of looks, and Jaxson Dart would have two athletic mismatches to throw to whenever he wanted.

Arizona Cardinals TE Tip Reiman (ankle) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.
Footballguys view: As USA Today noted, Reiman surpassed Elijah Higgins as the Cardinals' No. 2 tight end, as he is a devastating blocker. Reiman's season was cut short in Week 5 when he fractured his ankle and missed the rest of the season on injured reserve. In four games played, he had three receptions for 18 yards in his second NFL season. While he's not a vital fantasy asset, Reiman's superior blocking skills will be a plus for rookie running back Jeremiyah Love.
Undrafted free-agent CB Marlon Jones (Vanderbilt) has signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers, according to a source on Monday, May 18.
Link to storyUndrafted free-agent CB Tamon Lynum (Pittsburgh) has signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a source on Monday, May 18.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers RB Montrell Johnson Jr. (undisclosed) and TE Bryce Pierre (undisclosed) were waived/injured Monday, May 18.
Link to storyThe Steelers have signed rookie RB/WR Eli Heidenreich.
Footballguys view: According to Footballguy Sigmund Bloom, Heidenreich is an excellent receiver out of the backfield, and he has some potential with Aaron Rodgers after Kenneth Gainwell broke out with the veteran QB at the helm. Still, he may not make the team unless it is at 2025 third-round pick Kaleb Johnson's expense. Some local observers believe that Heidenreich, a seventh-round pick, is a candidate to land on the practice squad this year. We'll follow up as needed.
The Steelers have signed their second-round pick, WR Germie Bernard.
Footballguys view: Bernard will move into the rotation alongside DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. after the Steelers finished 2025 with the second-fewest receptions (136) among WR groups last season. According to Footballguy Jeff Bell, Bernard should immediately work in Pittsburgh's slot and as a gadget player.
Undrafted free-agent RB Miles Davis (Utah State) agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers Monday, May 18, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett was not present for the voluntary workout Monday, May 18.
Footballguys view: Brissett, who has been told he will be the starter this season, has been staying away as he seeks a raise for 2026. Monday is the start of the third phase of the offseason program. It features increased on-field work. Gardner Minshew and third-round pick Carson Beck will handle the quarterbacking portion. The OTAs are voluntary, and next month's minicamp will be the only mandatory work of the offseason. Brissett will be subject to fines if he does not attend those workouts. The expectation is that a deal will get done. We'll continue to watch for more.

As the 2026 season draws nearer, the Saints and star RB Alvin Kamara appear to be at an impasse. But a decision may soon be in the works. "We're just trying to see how he's gonna fit in our roster, and obviously, there's a resource management element to it," general manager Mickey Loomis said on Monday. "We'll get to that over the next week or two."
Footballguys view: Asked to clarify his "resource management" comment, Loomis said it was related to Kamara's contract. The GM added that next week's OTAs create "a little bit of a deadline to make a decision, but it's not hard and fast." Last season was Kamara's least productive. He was limited to 11 games and settled for career lows in rushing (471), yards per carry (3.6), and touchdowns (1). The team signed former Jaguars RB Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year, $52 million deal in March. That ensures a front-line role for Etienne -- and a lesser role for Kamara if he returns.
Alvin Kamara player page
Philadelphia Eagles second-round draft choice TE Eli Stowers signed a four-year contract with the Eagles Monday, May 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Stowers should take over for Dallas Goedert in 2027 and could contribute right away on passing downs as a more athletic version of the veteran. As Footballguy Sigmund Bloom notes, the Eagles' passing game isn't known for boosting pass-catcher value, but Goedert has been relevant even with two top wide receivers, so Stowers has a high floor to go along with his high ceiling. He merits first-round consideration in 1QB, non-IDP dynasty drafts.
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Alex Bullock was placed on the Reserve/Retired list Monday, May 18.
Link to storyUndrafted free-agent RB Anderson Castle (Duke) signed with the Indianapolis Colts Monday, May 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived RB Jordon Vaughn.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers OT Broderick Jones (neck) was present during the offseason workout Monday, May 18, but did not participate in team drills.
Link to storyFree-agent QB Taysom Hill (Saints) has not received a contract offer from the New Orleans Saints this offseason, according to general manager Mickey Loomis.
Footballguys view: While retirement is possible, Hill, who turns 36 in August, is often linked to the Denver Broncos, where his old friend Sean Payton is now the head coach. It's not clear how much Hill might have in the tank; as the Sporting News suggested, there's no precedent for a player like Hill, so it's hard to know how he might age. In his career, he has run for 2,551 yards, received 1,034 yards, and thrown for 2,426 yards. He's the first player in the Super Bowl era to clear 1,000 in all three. We'll watch for more.
Taysom Hill player page
Free-agent DE Cameron Jordan (Saints) has received a contract offer from the New Orleans Saints this offseason, according to general manager Mickey Loomis.
Footballguys view: Jordan has talked about leaving the door open to returning to New Orleans for his 16th season, but he hasn't accepted that contract offer. That suggests Jordan is looking for something more from the Saints or someone else before making any commitment for the coming season.

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers officially signed his one-year deal Monday, May 18. The deal can be worth up to $25 million.
Link to storyAaron Rodgers player page
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers arrived for the first day of organized team activities Monday, May 18.
Footballguys view: Word that Rodgers agreed to a one-year contract with the team came on Saturday. Rodgers officially signed that deal, paying him up to $25 million for his second season with the Steelers, before taking the field Monday. While his presence at OTAs was expected once the agreement was reached, it's not clear how much work he'll do. Again, Rodgers' return is the best-case outcome for Pittsburgh and fantasy investors interested in DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., and the other skill players whose best chances for success depend on solid QB play.

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks said he is 'very excited' about the addition of RB David Montgomery to the running backs' room, and he is already forming a dynamic partnership with him. 'Just looking back at the clips with him and (Detroit Lions RB) Jahmyr Gibbs, it looked like they was having so much fun out there,' Marks said. 'When the running back room doing good and everybody blocking, it's a party in the running back room. So, we're looking to have that same joy him and (Gibbs) had bringing it down here in Houston.
Footballguys view: In Marks' rookie season, he led the Texans with 703 rushing yards on 196 attempts (3.6 yards per carry), two touchdowns, including 24 receptions for three receiving TDs. It was quite an impressive campaign for the 2025 fourth-round pick out of USC, as he led Houston's RB room filled with veterans like Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce, and Dare Ogunbowale. This year, ADP indicates that Montgomery is of more interest to fantasy investors. The former Lion is RB25. Marks is going as WR43.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers, who didn't have a single 300-yard game in 2025, is back for one season, and he can make up to $25 million. He also threw for less than 200 yards in seven of his starts last season, while completing just 39.3% of his pass attempts under pressure. He also targeted players below 10 air yards on 71.5% of his pass attempts, the highest rate of any quarterback in the past three seasons.
Footballguys view: Rodgers' 3,322 passing yards last season marked a career low outside any injury-shortened seasons as a starter, as did his 24 touchdowns. But he only threw seven interceptions while leading the Steelers to an AFC North title. He provided veteran leadership in the locker room. He orchestrated two go-ahead drives in the fourth quarter of the regular-season finale, a winner-take-all game for the division against the Ravens. He earned his successes without a ton of help, too. The Steelers offered little to threaten defenses at wide receiver outside DK Metcalf, and their rushing attack finished 26th in the league.

New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte is not at the team's facility for the offseason program, and he has been working out away from the team.
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com notes, it's unclear why Boutte isn't there. The sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft is eligible for a new contract. He's entering the final year of his rookie deal at a base salary of $3.674 million and might be withholding services in hopes of getting a new deal. It's also fair to wonder if talk of acquiring Eagles WR A.J. Brown is a factor. Boutte has never had more than 589 receiving yards in any of his three NFL seasons. We'll continue to monitor.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is '100 percent' in the conservation of elite quarterbacks in the NFL, according to teammate DL Arik Armstead. 'The steps that he's taken this year to improve. A big area for me and what solidified it for me was that Denver game on the road,' Armstead said. 'Denver coming in, an elite defense, one of the best defenses in the leagues, pass rush, blitzes, playmakers all over the field. They were sending pressure at him, they were throwing zero looks, they were rushing with four with some great guys.'
Footballguys view: It's a fair assessment. After all, Lawrence played the best football of his five-year NFL career over the second half of last season. The Jaguars won eight consecutive games (and averaged an NFL-best 33.6 points per game over that span) to close out the regular season. Lawrence scored 24 total touchdowns, 19 of them through the air, with just five interceptions during that stretch. He finished the season as QB4 with 342.2 fantasy points, but was QB1 from Weeks 10 through 17. Lawrence is currently being drafted as QB10.

Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson has reportedly enjoyed his early time with head coach Todd Monken and his coaching staff. 'I'm told he's hit it off with (Monken), who's got an offensive concept, some elements that Watson has run in the past and been his best at,' ESPN national reporter Jeremy Fowler remarked. The team begins organized team activities (OTAs) this week.
Footballguys view: The drumbeat on Watson started in March with browns owner Jimmy Haslam telling a group of local reporters that Watson has a "great chance" and a "fresh start" with the offensive-minded Monken. Haslam said Watson "threw the ball well" during a three-week span late in the 2025 season when he was designated to return to practice from the physically unable to perform list. The 30-year-old, who hasn't played since October of 2024, is expected to compete with Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel to be the Browns' starting quarterback. It also sounds like he's the early favorite to win the job.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Sean Tucker appears to be in line to be the No. 3 back behind RBs Bucky Irving (shoulder) and newcomer Kenneth Gainwell. 'Right now, Bucky is on track to be ready to go. I think the combination of Kenny and Bucky are very similar as far as the skill set. Weight, size, all that,' running backs coach Skip Peete said. 'They're both capable of running the ball and running routes, catching and all that. They're not very large people, but they're willing pass protectors. Sean has continued to improve. He flashes sometimes, and he does a good job, and I think he will continue to get better.'
Footballguys view: Tucker has shown the ability to produce in short-yardage situations. He scored five of his seven touchdowns from within six yards of the goal line last year. Listed at 195 pounds, Irving, who is coming off shoulder surgery, isn't a prototypical lead tailback in terms of size. After he missed seven games in the previous campaign, Gainwell and Tucker could turn the backfield into a committee under new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, who drew criticism for his inconsistent usage of star running back Bijan Robinson in Atlanta. It's a backfield to monitor in coming weeks.

New England Patriots RB Myles Montgomery, an undrafted rookie from UCF, received a guaranteed contract of $272,500, the richest of 12 UDFAs the teams signed. That's a reflection of the competition from other teams to ink Montgomery. He is expected to challenge for the No. 3 RB job with Terrell Jennings, Lan Larison and Jam Miller.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, those close to the 23-year-old Montgomery say the Patriots appealed to him because of the opportunity to compete, and also the approach and success of the coaching staff. Of course, Montgomery faces a tough battle to work his way into the mix.
New England Patriots OG Alijah Vera-Tucker (triceps) is making his way back from a torn triceps in 2025. He was signed to a three-year, $42 million deal in March, and he has made a big impressive on his teammates, particularly C Jared Wilson. 'He's an athletic freak. His feet are crazy,' Wilson said.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jalon Daniels, an undrafted free agent, has turned head in the team's offseason program. Veteran QB Jake Browning is the favorite for the primary backup job behind QB Baker Mayfield, while QB Connor Bazelak is also in the mix.
