Giants | NYG, JuJu Smith-Schuster agree to deal Mon Jun 1, 01:51 PM
Free-agent WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (Chiefs) agreed to terms with the New York Giants Monday, June 1, according to sources. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: As SBNation's Ed Valentine noted, the Giants worked out four wide receivers Monday morning. The only one not signed -- so far -- has been former Chicago Bears first-round pick Anthony Miller. Smith-Schuster is a nine-year veteran who spent three of the last four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was on the coaching staff. Smith-Schuster, 29, caught 33 passes in 17 games last season. He caught 78 passes for 933 yards for the Chiefs in 2022. Smith-Schuster joins Odell Beckham Jr. and Braxton Berrios as newcomers to the team's receivers room.

New York Jets first-round draft choice WR Omar Cooper Jr. agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Jets Monday, June 1, worth $17.5 million, according to a source.
Footballguys view: According to the Footballguys 2026 Rookie Guide, Cooper is a tough receiver over the middle and a threat after the catch in the short game. But as Sigmund Bloom suggests, Cooper isn't going to be the starting "X" in New York; he isn't suited for that role. He isn't displacing Garrett Wilson as the starting "Z". Kenyon Sadiq is going to get a lot of the snaps that a slot receiver would as a second tight end. Where exactly does Cooper fit in that can make him fantasy-relevant? It could be a slow rookie season for the former Indiana star.
Undrafted free-agent WR Romello Brinson (SMU) signed with the Dallas Cowboys Monday, June 1. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett is being traded to the Los Angeles Rams Monday, June 1, in exchange for DE Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft choice and other undisclosed draft choices, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: The Browns claimed they had no interest in trading Garrett, and even told that to the Rams, according to ESPN's reporting. But the Rams refused to give up their "persistent pursuit" of Garrett. The Browns told the Rams that no deal would get done without including the 25-year-old Verse, the Rams' 2024 first-round pick, who has had 12 sacks and 22 tackles for loss the past two seasons. The Rams initially were not interested in moving Verse, but eventually began to consider a package with him as long as the draft picks were adjusted appropriately. Now the deal is done.

Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett is being acquired by the Los Angeles Rams Monday, June 1, in exchange for DE Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft choice and other undisclosed draft choices, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com noted, the shocking trade is completely on brand for the Rams, who made a similarly seismic move in the 2021 offseason when they traded for QB Matthew Stafford in the season in which the Super Bowl was being played in Los Angeles before going on to win it. With Super Bowl LXI set to be played at SoFi Stadium again, the Rams once again are going all-in and living by their mantra, "F--- them picks," while trying to repeat history. The move doesn't have a huge impact on Garrett's IDP value, which will remain high.

Free-agent WR Mac Dalena (Jets) signed with the Buffalo Bills Monday, June 1. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also released CB Daryl Porter Jr.
Link to storyFree-agent QB Russell Wilson (Giants) has agreed to a deal with CBS Sports to become a football analyst, according to sources. It is not known if Wilson will be retiring from professional football.
Footballguys view: Wilson, who also had an offer on the table from the New York Jets to join the team as a backup to Geno Smith, had acknowledged last month to the New York Post that he was considering joining CBS Sports. A 10-time Pro Bowl selection who won a Super Bowl and the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award during his career, Wilson is now is set to leave the NFL as a player to become an analyst on the network's pregame show that includes James Brown, Nate Burleson and Bill Cowher. It is unclear if Wilson is retiring as a player or simply taking a pause on his playing career.

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Dolphins) signed with the New York Giants Monday, June 1. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The Giants' receiving corps has been hit hard by injuries, with Darius Slayton recovering from hernia surgery and Malik Nabers' ongoing recovery from ACL and meniscus surgery. Beckham was a 2014 first-round pick and was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year after catching 91 passes during his first NFL season. He's also played for the Browns, Rams, Ravens, and Dolphins, but sat out all of last season. Beckham played for Giants coach John Harbaugh with Baltimore in 2023. We'll see if Beckham can carve out a role sufficient to make him fantasy relevant. A wait-and-see approach is recommended.

Free-agent WR Braxton Berrios (Texans) agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Giants Monday, June 1. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Footballguys view: Berrios, 30, is a natural fit for the role vacated by the injury to Gunner Olszewski, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon last week. Berrios has made his name as a special teams ace since entering the NFL in 2018 with the New England Patriots. He only has 140 receptions for 1,360 yards and 6 touchdowns since 2019, but has been an excellent returner. He has 100 punt returns, averaging 11.3 yards per return, as well as 91 kick returns with an average of 24.9 yards per return.

Link to storyBuffalo Bills WR DJ Moore said he still dealing with some 'growing pains' as he adjusts to the Buffalo offense, but he expects to be in 'great shape' as the offseason progresses. 'I mean, it's gonna be perfect later on,' Moore said.
Footballguys view: The Bills acquired Moore in a trade with the Bears in March, and he's had his first chance to work with quarterback Josh Allen over the last few weeks. And even though their connection and Moore's overall fit in the Buffalo offense are still coming together, the outlook is optimistic. "It's going good," Moore said. "I mean, it's gonna be perfect later on, but right now it's still growing pains." Allen had positive things to say this month about how Moore is acclimating to life with the Bills, who will be banking on a fully integrated Moore come the fall.

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Dolphins) has a 'real chance' to sign with the New York Giants, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Earlier this month, Giants coach John Harbaugh left the door open for a potential Beckham signing, with a caveat. "It's got to be right for both parties," Harbaugh said. As Profootballtalk.com suggested, the biggest question is where he'd land on the depth chart. Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Calvin Austin III are the expected starters. The team's anticipated use of Beckham will also determine the contract he'd be offered. Both sides need to be on the same page about Beckham's role. It won't be what it was from 2014 through 2018.

San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk seems unlikely to be traded, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: The 49ers have made it clear they would rather trade Aiyuk than release him, but finding a deal for the disgruntled wide receiver amid his puzzling behavior is proving difficult. "I talked to two rival executives who believe that he's simply untradeable right now," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported. The 49ers still can create $20 million in salary-cap space by releasing Aiyyk after June 1 if a trade partner isn't found. And as of right now, that is the most likely outcome.

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara and the team have not had 'a lot of traction' on a revised deal that could allow Kamara to return to the Saints in 2026.
Footballguys view: "The team can also save about $14 million after June 1 on a salary cap," Fowler reported Sunday. Kamara's resume includes an Offensive Rookie of the Year, five Pro Bowl selections, and more than 1,100 yards from scrimmage in eight of his nine seasons. He also led the league in combined receiving and rushing touchdowns in 2020 with 21. Yet he will be 31 years old during the 2026 campaign and is coming off the worst individual season of his career. New Orleans also signed Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year deal this offseason, which made Kamara's future uncertain.

Tennessee Titans RB Tony Pollard is one of just two NFL backs to run for at least 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons, with Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry the other back in that exclusive club. He has played in at least 15 games in each of his seven NFL seasons, as durability has been key. 'The work ethic, everything that I'm doing behind the scenes, it's paying off,' Pollard said, via The Associated Press. 'I slowly feel like throughout my career I've just slowly progressed more and more, and I feel like I'm still trending in that direction.'
Footballguys view: Pollard actually has four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons -- the last two for Tennessee. He was a Pro Bowler for the Cowboys in 2022, the first of his aforementioned quartet of 1,000-yard campaigns. He had a career-best 1,082 yards on the ground with five touchdowns last season. With Pollard already in place to support quarterback Cam Ward and a Tennessee offense taking on offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's new scheme, sticking with the veteran makes sense. For fantasy investors, the RB31 price makes him a reasonable value.

Miami Dolphins WR Malik Washington has been praised for his ability to learn and execute the offense, and he has seemingly grasped the new playbook faster than any of his teammates. He has emerged as a favorite target of new QB Malik Willis, but he still needs to step out of the slot and into a split end or flanker role to see the field more consistently.
Footballguys view: At this time last year, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were Miami's top receivers. Now, with both gone, there's a question about who will step up. The most likely candidates are Washington, former Cowboy Jalen Tolbert, and ex-Rams speedster Tutu Atwell. None of the trio has ever hit the 615-yard mark in a single season. Last year, they combined for 712 yards, and Washington led the way with a career-high 317 yards. While rookies Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell are also in the picture, we expect the veterans -- led by Washington -- to be the primary weapons.
Miami Dolphins TE Greg Dulcich was considered one of the top performers at organized team activities (OTAs), and he has seemingly built an early rapport with new QB Malik Willis. Still, he needs to work to become a reliable run blocker and pass protector, also known as in-line duties. The team drafted TE Will Kacmarek for in-line duties, and he has shown some good hands early on.
Footballguys view: After parting ways with Tyreek Hill and trading Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins signed a few free-agent wide receivers, as well as drafted a trio at the position. Yet when looking for who could be a major option for Willis in 2025, a top candidate could be Dulcich. At the very least, Dulcich has the inside track on the starting job in an offense without much in the way of proven receiving assets. Still, the former Bronco is best viewed as a late flier or potential waiver-wire add once the season opens.
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington emerged as a short-yardage favorite of QB Aaron Rodgers in 2025, and he and TE Pat Freiermuth are the only pure tight ends on the roster heading into the summer.
Footballguys view: Washington has been a solid performer for the Steelers, but he hasn't been a top-tier weapon in the passing offense. Even with some short-yardage work, the weekly production hasn't been consistent or fantasy-relevant.

Miami Dolphins PKs Zane Gonzalez and Riley Patterson are vying for the starting placekicker job.
Footballguys view: Patterson hit 93.1 percent (27-of-29) of his field-goal attempts, a new single-season franchise record. He was re-signed to the NFL minimum, and the team brought in the journeyman Gonzalez to compete. It's a battle we'll monitor through training camp.

Miami Dolphins DBs Zayne Anderson, a special teams contributor with a history with new head coach Jeff Hafley, is battling Omar Brown, Lonnie Johnson Jr., Louis Moore and Michael Taaffe for a prominent role at safety, opposite presumed free safety starter Dante Trader Jr.
Link to storyLonnie Johnson Jr. player page
Miami Dolphins S Dante Trader Jr. appears to be the leading candidate for the free safety role due to the experience he gained in the 2025 season, as well as improvements he has made to his body and his intellect in the offseason.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers TE Riley Nowakowski was drafted in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft after playing tight end for the national champion Indiana Hoosiers, but head coach Mike McCarthy intends to use him as a fullback this season. 'I think if you have a system that cannot utilize the strength and the personnel that's available, then I think you have to take a hard look at your system,' McCarthy said. 'I've started my journey in coaching in the two-back offense, I still believe the principle of it and still teach from the foundation of two-back offense.'
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth is envisioning an expanded role in the offense for 2026, as head coach Mike McCarthy has always used tight ends as a productive part of his offense. In McCarthy's previous five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, his leading tight end averaged 65.6 receptions per season. 'I like my role in the offense,' Freiermuth said Sunday, May 31. 'I see my role increasing for sure. But I have to show up every single day and earn what I want my role to be.'
Footballguys view: Freiermuth's role took a big hit last year after the Steelers traded for Jonnu Smith, but with Smith gone, Freiermuth should return to fantasy relevance. He's still only worth a late pick at best, but Freiermuth should be on your waiver wire watch list with the possibility of gaining value over the course of the summer. The Steelers have improved their wide receiver group during the offseason, but they should also pass more under new head coach Mike McCarthy.

Baltimore Ravens TE Durham Smythe said on a podcast that his familiarity with new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's system was a major factor in choosing the team in the free agency process, and 'kind of a no-brainer'. He added that working with TE Mark Andrews heading up the tight ends' room was important, too. 'Being able to come in and work with Mark a little bit, I think it was a perfect situation for me,' Smythe said.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley reached out to retired RB Todd Gurley for advice on how to make the most of offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's system.
Footballguys view: Gurley was a teammate of new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion with the Rams in 2017-2018, and he had two of the best years of his career in the zone running game during the Sean McVay regime. Barkley will be running a lot more outside zone with the quarterback under center, so he is having to revamp his game. Offensive line health is a big question mark along with Barkley's adjustment physically and mentally to a one cut and go style of play, but this season should be a better offensive environment for him after playing in the disaster of an offense run by Kevin Patullo, who was let go in the offseason.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Parker Washington has 'looked dynamic as he ever has' during OTAs, according to John Shipley of SI.com.
Footballguys view: It doesn't look like the Jaguars are going to trade Brian Thomas Jr. this offseason, and they have said that the plan for Travis Hunter to play on both sides of the ball has not changed, so the pass offense appears to be crowded. Washington was able to rise above late last season and in the wild card loss to the Bills. He hasn't slowed down and the team is talking about cross-training him for inside/outside versatility. He could be the best "buy high" player in dynasty leagues right now.

New York Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) participated in LB Brian Burns' celebrity softball game on Saturday night, and he took part in all scheduled activities, from dodgeball to the home run derby to the game itself. He was seen backpedaling in the dodgeball game, and he was showing off a full range of motion. However, he still didn't show if he can start, stop or cut as his position requires, so it was just a glimpse of where he is at. Head coach John Harbaugh recently said the receiver is still working through rehab, and he is uncertain if Nabers will be ready for the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: Nabers didn't look too hobbled, but he didn't look like he was entirely comfortable either. It's still very unlikely he'll be ready for training camp, and nothing about this news item should change his uncertain status for Week 1.

Arizona Cardinals WR Devin Duvernay will continue to return kicks and punts, as he enters his seventh season in the NFL, but he also wants to be more than just a one-dimensional player. 'Finding a role on offense, earning the trust of my teammates, my coaches is definitely the goal, but I plan on doing all of that, helping any way I can, being the ultimate team player,' Duvernay said.

Detroit Lions LB Jack Campbell met with reporters for the first time since receiving a four-year, $81 million extension which has him under contract through 2030. He was the team's most consistent defender in 2025, posting a team-high 176 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks and four passes defensed. 'Let's be realistic here, like, I already have more than enough. So, for me, it was more about the principle of I just want to be in the elite category, because I feel like I'm an elite linebacker and that's the way [Lions GM] Brad [Holmes] saw it and that's the way everyone upstairs saw it...I feel like, for me, I don't need to be the highest paid,' Campbell said.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Patrick Queen is entering the final year of his contract, and an extension between the two sides is not considered close. 'I've got a good amount of money coming in this year,' Queen said. 'So, at the end of the day, I couldn't care less. If they do want to extend, cool. If not, cool. At the end of the day, it's as a business.' He enters his seventh NFL season, and he hasn't missed a start across four years with the Baltimore Ravens, and his first two seasons with the Steelers. He is looking to have a big season, but will have to adjust to a new defense under Patrick Graham. He was working with LB Payton Wilson to help get him up to speed with the new defensive coordinator's plan.

Buffalo Bills CB Dorian Strong (neck) was spotted at organized team activities (OTAs) still wearing a neck brace, as he recovers from neck surgery. His future remains uncertain, as he makes his way back from injury.
Link to storyBuffalo Bills LB Michael Hoecht (Achilles) continues to rehab from a torn Achilles tendon, and he was working off to the side during organized team activities (OTAs).
Link to storyBuffalo Bills DL Ed Oliver (knee) was limited to just three games in 2025 due to an ankle injury, and then a season-ending torn biceps injury. He isn't taking part in organized team activities (OTAs), as he takes it slow after having a knee scope on his left leg back in December. He also had a small setback recently. 'Yeah, I'm fully 100 percent ready to go,' he said. 'I got a little oops, oops, but it's fine. I probably could go if I wanted to, but I mean, what's the point of going now, and potentially (getting hurt), versus late in the playoffs, when I really need to be on go.'
Footballguys view: The Bills most impactful defensive lineman didn't help them much in 2025, so there is some hidden upside in this defense in its first year since 2016 with someone other than Sean McDermott at head coach. The Bills should be very conservative with Oliver's return and focus on creating the highest possible probability that he'll be healthy for postseason football. If Oliver is ready for Week 1, he'll help the Bills in what could be a playoff preview against the Texans in the season opener.

San Francisco 49ers DE Nick Bosa (knee) is making his way back from a third torn anterior cruciate ligament, and the second on his right knee. He has developed ways to cope with adversity, stress and anxiety during his seven-year career, which he considered ending after his latest injury. 'It was rough early on, especially how good things (were) going for the defense and me personally,' Bosa said. 'I felt that was at a pretty high level to start the year. And then you start out (after you're injured) wanting to quit. Never play again. Never put your body in that position again. And then you slowly realize that you love this game, and you want to get back to it.' He fully expects to play in the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 10 in Australia.
Footballguys view: Bosa is a very important player for a defense that was playing without him and Fred Warner for most of the season, and also lost defensive coordinator Robert Saleh when he was hired as the head coach of the Titans. The Rams offense could start out red hot against the 49ers defense still rounding into form down under in Week 1.

San Francisco 49ers LB Dre Greenlaw is happy to be back after one injury-filled season with the Denver Broncos, and he and LB Fred Warner are projected to start together. 'It's really cool when I talk to the team, to sit back there and see those guys shoulder to shoulder,' head coach Kyle Shanahan said. 'I've seen them like that their whole careers together.' Greenlaw is under contract for $6 million for one season, and $7.5 million based on incentives. He has not played a full season since 2019, but he did make 15 starts in consecutive seasons while posting at least 120 tackles in both 2022 and 2023.

Philadelphia Eagles OT Markel Bell served as the right tackle with the first-team offense at organized team activities Wednesday, May 27, and could be viewed by the club as a potential swing tackle option this season.

Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers LB Patrick Queen is likely entering his final year with the club, in the opinion of Steelers insider Mark Kaboly. Queen, who signed a three-year contract in March 2024, is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season and has been the subject of multiple trade rumors this offseason.

New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave gained 10 pounds of muscle ahead of OTAs.
Footballguys view: We'll withhold any opinion whether this is a good or bad thing until we see if it affects Olave's elite route running. Reports from OTAs had him separating in practice with his typical effortless style, so chances are this is a good thing for the Saints #1 receiver, who should get a market level extension before the beginning of the season.
Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs is 'positioned to reset the running back market in a big way,' according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. 'Think $20 million per year or over,' Fowler said.
Footballguys view: He has earned it, and the Lions should have no hesitation paying it. Because Gibbs and fellow 2023 first round pick Jack Campbell play positions with a lower top of the pay scale, their combined cost per year should come in right after what the Seahawks are paying Jaxon Smith-Njigba on his contract extension.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr.'s chemistry with QB Trevor Lawrence in the deep passing game has been a focus this offseason, according to head coach Liam Coen. 'Our average depth of target went up towards the second half of the season, but we've got to keep pushing that envelope a little bit - especially with him and BT, that connection,' Coen said.
Footballguys view: Thomas should be the main deep target in the Jaguars offense, but he, Jakobi Meyers, and Parker Washington are all going to play large roles, and their fantasy values will be determined by how well they execute and riff with Trevor Lawrence. Washington dominated in OTAs, so Thomas still has work to do to justify his ADP being ahead of the hottest Jaguars receiver at the end of the season.
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. (undisclosed) did not practice and was seen riding a stationary back at practice Tuesday, May 26. Head coach Liam Coen did not comment on the specifics of Rodriguez's injury.
Footballguys view: Coen did not seem worried, but we would like to know more about the nature of Rodriguez's absence before writing this off as nothing to be concerned about. The free agent signing is expected to be part of a three-headed committee with 2025 fourth round pick Bhayshul Tuten and 2025 seventh round pick LeQuint Allen, with an edge in short yardage and inside running. Tuten and Allen are both impressing his absence, and could make it an uphill climb for Rodriguez to earn more work than expected, but Coen's familiarity with Rodriguez could offset that.
New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo (ankle) 'snuck into' some positional drills during practice Friday, May 29, and appeared to be moving well, according to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com.
Footballguys view: Of the two rookie backs who suffered dislocated ankle/fractured fibula injuries last year, Skattebo is behind Quinshon Judkins - who has been moving surprisingly well already - but still on track to be ready for Week 1. The big question is whether Skattebo will be back his old self this year. Skattebo did suffer ligament damage that Judkins didn't, so he was expected to be behind Judkins. We'll be watching this closely. For now, Tyrone Tracy has some speculative early season upside as Skattebo's backup.
Denver Broncos RB Jonah Coleman could be used as a receiver out of the backfield during his rookie season, in the opinion of BroncosWire's Jon Heath.
Footballguys view: Coleman is a threat to both JK Dobbins and RJ Harvey's roles, and he could end up being as valuable as Harvey even though there is a 50+ pick gap in their ADPs. Coleman could also be the first man up if Dobbins goes down. This is a big camp for Harvey to prove he deserves a bigger opportunity to prove he was worth the second round pick the Broncos spent on him last year.
