Dolphins | MIA want Malik Willis to focus on offense Sun May 24, 05:39 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Malik Willis has been told to focus on learning the offensive system and can work on becoming a team leader later, according to head coach Jeff Hafley.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins GM has said that they gave Willis a three-year deal because they want to build a team around him. This is consistent with that approach- namely a long term commitment to Willis, as opposed to a one-year "prove it" evaluation timeframe. Willis has more value in superflex dynasty leagues than the fantasy community is assigning to him.
Carolina Panthers WRs Xavier Legette, John Metchie and Chris Brazzell II may compete for the No. 3 receiver job during the offseason workouts and training camp, in the opinion of PanthersWire's Anthony Rizzuti.
Footballguys view: The Panthers pass offense isn't at the level where it can support three fantasy relevant wide receivers, but if Legette starts to show first round pick promise or Brazzell is ready for prime time as a third round rookie, it will help Bryce Young and really the whole offense take a step forward. Legette has the size and speed to be a run after catch threat, but hasn't shown the ability to win downfield. Brazzell is a long, fast, flexible receiver in the mold of George Pickens, who could make a splash right away given the quality of Young's deep ball.
Los Angeles Chargers S Derwin James is entering the final year of a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension signed in 2022. He is a candidate for an extension, and general manager Joe Hortiz is hopeful James will finish his career in L.A. 'He's such a special, special leader and person,' Hortiz said. 'Like Justin (Herbert), the talent is real and it's there, but the leader and motivator and energy he gives to everybody within the organization, throughout the entire building, it's so unique. One of the best I've ever been around in terms of leadership, talent and character.'

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DL Rueben Bain Jr. has the trust of outside linebackers coach and run-game coordinator David Foote, who is predicting big things for the rookie. 'Off the film, if you had to bet, he's going to be a star,' Foote said. 'The way he plays the game, he's explosive, plays with great leverage and it's hard to block those guys.'
Link to storyBaltimore Ravens OG Vega Ioane has impressive head coach Jesse Minter with his physical ability, work habits and ability to absorb information quickly. 'Vega [Ioane]'s a beast. He's picked up on everything probably way faster than I would expect a rookie to at any position, I would say,' Minter said. 'And man, he has a really bright future, but the best thing about him is just how hard he works and how serious he takes his craft. And so, every day he does something, he comes back, it's a little bit better the next day.'
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk might show up to organized team activities (OTAs), which would force the team to take him off of the reserve/did not report (R/DNR) list.
Footballguys view: There have been a lot of rumors about Aiyuk being out of shape and not committed to playing, but he can put those to rest by showing up for OTAs and being in football shape. If the 49ers trade or release Aiyuk, he is highly likely to end up reunited with his college teammate Jayden Daniels in Washington.

Chicago Bears DE Dayo Odeyingbo (Achilles) is expected to be ready for training camp after being limited to eight games due to an Achilles' rupture after signing a three-year, $48 million deal in March 2025. He will 'definitely be in the mix' at defensive end when training camp starts, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said.
Link to storyDayo Odeyingbo player page
Chicago Bears DE Montez Sweat had a team-high 10 sacks last season, while leading the team with 44 pressures. The team struggled in pass rush, but Sweat certainly did his part. However, he had 27 more pressures than the next best Chicago player, DT Gervon Dexter Sr. That difference of 27 was the fourth largest between a team's top two pressure generators last season.
Link to storyMontez Sweat player page
Chicago Bears DT Jordan van den Berg was selected 213th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, in hopes of helping the team improve its pass rush. The Bears were 31st in the NFL in pass-rush win rate (29%) and 29th in pressure percentage (28%).
Link to storyDallas Cowboys OT Tyler Guyton (ankle), who suffered a bone fracture and high-ankle sprain last season, costing him seven games, is expected to be ready to go for Week 1. He is likely to be slotted in as the starting left tackle.
Footballguys view: If he sticks at left tackle, that will move Tyler Smith back to his preferred position of left guard. The Cowboys offensive line is young and full of people who can move defenders. If they can develop and have better injury luck than last year, the team could contend to win their division and be a tough out in the playoffs.
Dallas Cowboys OG Tyler Smith is expected to start on the left side of the offensive line in 2026, but it's uncertain if it will be at guard or tackle. In the final three games of 2025, he moved to left tackle, although his preferred spot is guard. 'We had great conversations about it,' Smith said. 'I have an understanding of what it is. That's the most I can ask for is to just have that understanding early on. Obviously, I've got the utmost faith that we're going to go out there and we're going to do what we're going to do.'
Link to storyNew York Giants CB Deonte Banks gives up big plays, and he was flagged for many costly penalties. In addition, he continued to make inexcusable mistakes like not turning his head toward the ball. However, the team still has a little faith in him, and he could benefit from the aggressive style of defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. He did not have his option year exercised, however, although he is valuable as a returner. However, the team might want him to be more of a return specialist if he is going to stick around.
Link to storyNew York Giants S Tyler Nubin had a 16.9 percent missed tackle rate in 2025, and he did not record an interception. Additions of CB Ar'Darius Washington and CB Jason Pinnock could mean a shift in Nubin's workload, or his roster status might even be in jeopardy. He split reps with Washington in organized team activities (OTAs).

New York Giants OL Evan Neal was shockingly re-signed to a one-year contract in the offseason despite struggles since he was picked in the 2022 NFL Draft. The team still values his 6-foot-7, 340-pound frame and potential, and hope head coach John Harbaugh will unlock that potential. However, if he is going to stick with the team, it will come at the guard position. He has taken most of his snaps in organized team activities (OTAs) at right guard.
Footballguys view: Neal and fellow 2022 first round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux have failed to help turn the franchise around after going at the #5 and #7 picks. Now the team is coming off a draft with the #5 and #10 picks and hoping for different results.
Miami Dolphins OG Jonah Savaiinaea will play right guard in 2026, after spending much of his rookie season at left guard, according to new offensive line coach Zach Yenser. Savaiinaea spent the bulk of his playing time at the University of Arizona lining up at right guard, right tackle and left tackle. He will compete against OGs Jamaree Salyer and DJ Campbell for the starting job.
Footballguys view: Savaiinaea was one of the worst offensive linemen in the league last year by some measures. If they can get improvement at his spot, either from him or someone who beats him out, along with an instant impact from #12 pick Kaydn Proctor, the Dolphins run first offense could have more success than most envision - which isn't much.
Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow has not been approached by the organization about restructuring his contract for the 2026 season in order to free up salary cap space, according to a source.

Baltimore Ravens OL Danny Pinter has done a great job at center during offseason workouts, according to head coach Jesse Minter, but the team is considering having several players split first-team reps at organized team activities. Jovaughn Gwyn, Corey Bullock and Nick Dawkins are among the options that could see time at center if the Ravens do not trade for one.
Footballguys view: The Ravens added road grading guard Vega Iaone in the first round, but still have a hole left by the departure of Tyler Linderbaum to Las Vegas in free agency. We'll be monitoring the news out of OTAs and camp about how the position battle is going after the team failed to draft one of the top center prospects in this year's class, instead opting for power DE Zion Young in the second round.
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth had his contract restructured Saturday, May 23, according to multiple sources. The move allows the team to free up some salary cap space for the 2026 season. Pittsburgh turned a portion of Freiermuth's $7.6 base salary for the upcoming campaign into a roster bonus, after he had already earned a $1.3 million roster bonus back in March.
Footballguys view: The Steelers continue to be in "win now" mode even though their ceiling is probably one postseason win. Freiermuth is worth a look late in TE premium drafts as Jonnu Smith is unlikely to come back, which will give Freiermuth a bigger share of the tight end targets and snaps.

New York Giants CB Colton Hood (undisclosed) did not participate in drills during voluntary workouts Thursday, May 21.

Seattle Seahawks C Olu Oluwatimi may be a possible candidate to be traded this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Brady Henderson.

San Francisco 49ers WR De'Zhaun Stribling has been impressive this offseason and has a chance to have an immediate impact on offense, according to QB Brock Purdy. 'Stribling's a guy that has a lot of raw talent, and just throwing routes on air to him and getting a feel for how he moves and his speed, he's a guy that, obviously once we get him in the playbook a lot and get reps with each other on the field, I feel like he's going to be a guy that can come in and make an instant impact,' Purdy said.
Footballguys view: The 49ers selected Stribling in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and he was an intriguing prospect coming out of Ole Miss because of his size/speed combination and tenacious blocking. In a Shanahan system, you have to block to get the rock, so Stribling could work his way into the mix behind Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, and Christian Kirk. Stribling is a talented player who could thrive as a rookie if he gets a larger role (likely due to injury above him on the depth chart).
Seattle Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) has not been seen at the voluntary workouts this offseason.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL in the Seahawks' divisional round win over the 49ers last postseason, and didn't have surgery to repair the injury until February. Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said Charbonnet is "not going to miss the whole year." We expect Charbonnet to be on PUP to begin the regular season. That means 2026 first-round pick Jadarian Price will have the opportunity to be the team's lead back in Week 1. We see Price as an RB2/3 with upside in that role, and he could keep that role for much of the regular season as Charbonnet continues to recover.

Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett could miss next week's organized team activities, according to a source. He has not attended any of the team's prior voluntary OTAs or the voluntary offseason program because of disappointment over his current contract situation. The Cardinals will also hold a mandatory minicamp for veterans and rookies June 8-10.
Footballguys view: Brissett wants a contract that reflects his starting status with the team. He can make up to $5.39 million this year, and Brissett only has $1.5 million in guarantees for the 2026 season. Compare that to what Gardner Minshew has in guarantees on his one-year deal ($5.14 million), and you can see why Brissett is taking this position. When the work becomes mandatory in June, Brissett should be in attendance regardless of a new contract.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown is someone that the New England Patriots hope that they can acquire in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. However, the Eagles are still seeking a first-round draft pick in any potential trade involving Brown.
Footballguys view: The belief about a month ago was that a first-round pick from the Patriots would be what seals the deal. The Patriots may want a lower price, but they're without leverage in this situation - especially if a team like the Chiefs jumps into the mix. There are speculative reports (Albert Breer) that suggest the Chiefs might consider making a move for Brown because of the Rashee Rice situation. Stay tuned.

Dallas Cowboys WR George Pickens has been doing off-site workouts with QB Dak Prescott this offseason but has not been a regular at the club's optional workouts. He is seeking a contract extension but is not expected to engage in a lengthy holdout, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: Pickens signed his franchise tender about a month ago, and that fully guarantees him $27.3 million for the 2026 season. He obviously wants a long-term deal, and it seems like Pickens is willing to work with the Cowboys. However, signing the franchise tender takes away a lot of leverage with the team. Pickens is not a regular at voluntary workouts, but when mandatory minicamp happens in June, we expect him to be in full attendance.
New Orleans Saints WR Bryce Lance will need some time to develop, according to general manager Mickey Loomis.
Footballguys view: The brother of Chargers QB Trey Lance, the Saints rookie was a star at the FCS level in college at North Dakota State. Lance is an elite vertical threat who can regularly win at the catch point. With a fine size/speed combination, Lance is an exciting prospect when fully developed in the pros. That's why we appreciate the 2026 fourth-round pick in dynasty formats.
New Orleans Saints TE Oscar Delp is going to have to do some 'dirty work' and contribute on special teams, according to head coach Kellen Moore.
Footballguys view: Delp's path to playing time as a rookie will include plenty of dirty work on special teams and as a blocker on offense. Coming out of Georgia, Delp is a dual-threat "Y" tight end who can contribute as a blocker and receiver. His receiving chops are what Fantasy GMs have interest in, and Delp has the speed to stretch the seam in the middle of the field. He'll have time to develop behind Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant in 2026, but we love Delp's upside in dynasty formats.
New Orleans Saints WR Jordyn Tyson took snaps at all three receiver positions during rookie minicamp.
Footballguys view: Tyson was arguably the best receiver in the 2026 NFL Draft, and it's wise for the Saints to use him all over the field. Saints HC Kellen Moore may have a plan to use the talented rookie as a chess piece he can move around. Tyson immediately jumps into the mix as the no.2 option behind Chris Olave in the WR pecking order. If Tyson develops chemistry with QB Tyler Shough, we could see him pay off as a flex-worthy play for Fantasy GMs.
Los Angeles Chargers TE David Njoku will provide 'valuable experience' to the tight end room and 'help it open up for other people' on offense, according to tight ends coach Chandler Henley.
Footballguys view: Njoku could be a key contributor in OC Mike McDaniel's offense. Look to what Jonnu Smith did under McDaniel with the Dolphins (88 catches, 886 yards, eight touchdowns) as an example of what the role for Njoku could be with the Chargers. Njoku is a seasoned veteran, and he'll get to mentor second-year TE Orande Gadsden (who we love in dynasty). If he splits snaps/targets with Gadsden, Njoku could be in the TE2/3 range for Fantasy GMs this year.

Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett is far apart in his contract extension talks with the Cardinals, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Brissett has been staying away from voluntary workouts while he pushes for a new contract. He is set to be the starter in Week 1, but the team also added Gardner Minshew this offseason and selected Carson Beck in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. In the second year of his deal (and final year of his contract), Brissett only has $1.5 million in guarantees.

Dallas Cowboys WR Ryan Flournoy seems to be the leading candidate for the No. 3 receiver job entering training camp, in the opinion of DallasCowboys.com's Kurt Daniels.
Footballguys view: The no.3 receiver in an elite passing attack like the Cowboys will have fantasy value. Flournoy is competing for the no.3 spot behind superstars CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. He'll have to beat out guys like KaVontae Turpin, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Tyler Johnson for that job. Flournoy should be able to build off his 2025 season, where he had a few big games for the Cowboys. Last year, he had 40 catches on 56 targets for 475 yards and four touchdowns. Flournoy is a deep flex for Fantasy GMs with upside if injuries strike at the position.
ESPN's Adam Schefter said on Friday, May 22, that New York Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) 'don't know if he'll be ready for opening day.'
Footballguys view: Nabers has a goal to be ready for the start of the season, according to head coach John Harbaugh, but nothing is guaranteed. He's in the building working hard on his recovery, but Nabers is dealing with a knee injury suffered last October that required a second surgery (cleanup) in February. Fantasy GMs will get more clarity on his status when training camp hits in late July. If healthy, Nabers is a top-12 fantasy receiver.
ESPN's Adam Schefter commented on the new deal that Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford signed on Thursday, May 21, saying, 'I think with a deal like this it shows that he's probably planning on playing a couple more years.'
Footballguys view: The Rams signed Stafford to a one-year, $55 million extension through 2027. This gives the Rams a locked-in starter for two more years, and Stafford keeps them in Super Bowl contention. The new extension for Stafford also gives rookie first-round QB Ty Simpson a couple of years to learn as the primary backup to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Atlanta Falcons CB Billy Bowman Jr. (Achilles) is allowed to participate in walkthroughs at this point but has not been medically cleared to participate in team drills, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Link to storyHouston Texans LB E.J. Speed partially tore his quadriceps on Friday, May 22. He will have surgery next week and is expected back at some point in the regular season.

New Orleans Saints RB Kendre Miller is not guaranteed to be the No. 2 back if RB Alvin Kamara does not return to the team, according to Mike Triplett of New Orleans Football, and Triplett believes the Saints would 'go shopping' for a reliable backup if Kamara is not with the team.
Footballguys view: Miller has failed to endear himself to Kellen Moore and his coaching staff going into the last year of his rookie deal after the team drafted him in the third round back in 2023. Last year's sixth round pick Devin Neal and Broncos 2024 fourth round pick Audric Estime both looked competent after Kamara and Miller went down last year, and either of them could beat out Miller for a roster spot whether Kamara is with the team this year or not.
Kendre Miller player page
New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart said he has been studying tape of his scrambles with quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan to work on knowing when sliding is the better option.
Footballguys view: This indicates that the new Giants regime doesn't want Dart to lose his scrambling edge. His added value from running the ball last year isn't fully baked into his ADP, with Dart falling to around QB10 in early drafts. He could be a hit if Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo play like their pre-injury selves in 2026.
New York Giants OT Andrew Thomas (foot, shoulder) received a limited workload during the voluntary workout Thursday, May 21, because he is recovering from foot and shoulder injuries, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
Footballguys view: Thomas is the best Giants offensive lineman by a good margin, but he has played 29 games in the last three years. His health is a key to the new Nagy/Roman offense getting jumpstarted around Jaxson Dart in his second year.
Tennessee Titans WR Carnell Tate caught three touchdowns during the voluntary workout Thursday, May 21.
Footballguys view: Calvin Ridley wasn't there, but after this show, maybe he will feel a sense of urgency to get there. The very early returns on the fourth overall pick's chemistry with Cam Ward are very good.
Kansas City Chiefs second-round draft choice DE R Mason Thomas signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs Thursday, May 21. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Thomas is an edge rush demon who might be limited to that role because of his size a la Bruce Irvin. He might be the best pure edge rusher in the 2026 draft, and could also make an instant impact on a team that is in a Super Bowl window. Whether that will translate to IDP league value depends on Thomas's ability to stay on the field on early downs.
New York Giants WR Darius Slayton (hernia) should be ready for the start of training camp after undergoing sports hernia surgery this offseason, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
Footballguys view: With Malik Nabers unsure for Week 1, Slayton will have a chance to start and be a focal point of the downfield passing game. He'll compete with free agent signing Darnell Mooney, who had the best year of his career under new Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy in Chicago, and third round pick Malachi Fields. This is a battle to watch in training camp along with Nabers progress in recovery from a second knee surgery.
Darius Slayton player page
Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round draft choice Josiah Trotter signed a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Thursday, May 21. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Trotter is the second son of Philadelphia Eagles great Jeremiah Trotter to get drafted and play in the NFL. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was drafted by the Eagles in the fifth round of the 2024 draft. His little brother could start at middle linebacker from day one, but he will have to improve in coverage to become a true three-down player and hit his ceiling in IDP leagues.
Free-agent RB Carlos Washington Jr. (Falcons) signed with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, May 21. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived TE Jalin Conyers.
Footballguys view: Washington spent the last three years on the Falcons practice squad. He's a versatile back who has a chance to make the Dolphins as their fourth running back behind De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Ollie Gordon II after priority UDFA signing Le'Veon Moss retired shortly following Miami signing him when he went undrafted this year.
Detroit Lions LB Jack Campbell agreed to a contract extension with the team on Thursday, May 21. Terms of the deal were not disclosed initially.
Footballguys view: The Lions were criticized when they took Campbell, an off ball linebacker, in the first round, but he has settled in as a franchise cornerstone, and off ball linebacker has one of the cheapest going rates for top of the market contracts as any position. That also goes for Jahmyr Gibbs soon-to-come contract extension. Together that frees up money compared to teams that are signing wide receivers, cornerbacks, edge rushers, and offensive tackles to long term deals.
Jack Campbell player page
Free agent RB Salvon Ahmed (Colts) and DB Anthony Johnson Jr. (Giants) signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, May 21. In a corresponding move, they waived RB Deion Hankins.
Footballguys view: Ahmed suffered a serious ankle injury in camp last year, but was declared fully healthy and will vie for a roster spot behind D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai in Chicago. Ahmed's initial burst was NFL quality in his cup of coffee with the Dolphins earlier in his career, so we shouldn't completely write him off.
