A Dad Joke Winner - NFC South - And MORE

Howdy Folks,

We're putting the spotlight on Dads this week.

Here's a cool message Footballguys Subscriber Randy sent today:

"I was sitting with my Dad a few years back, before he passed... watching salmon run in a creek beneath a bridge we were walking over.

"I had his arm because he was a bit unsteady, thinking to myself "This is one of those great moments I will always remember".

"I looked at him and said, "Dad, you are tried and true".

"His smile got a bit bigger and he leaned over and said, "Well hell son, I'm tired of you too!"

Dads. God Bless 'em.

1. NYG - RB Saquon Barkley in attendance but idle

Source: NFL Network - Kim Jones

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) is at the facility and rehabbing Tuesday, June 8, during organized team activities, but he won't be participating.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barkley is coming back from the knee injury that cost him all but two games last year. Not only is he not participating in OTAs, he is not expected to be a full participant during the Giants first few practices of training camp as a precautionary measure. He's got a ton to prove this year coming back from injury, and Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board currently at RB4 (1.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

2. GB - QB Aaron Rodgers absent

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers wasn't present at the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 8. He's officially holding out.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Rodgers is staying away because he doesn't want to play for the Packers anymore. The team is trying to do what they can to keep him, and they'll be putting together another new contract offer for the superstar quarterback to try and convince him to stay. Rodgers is a man of his convictions, so this isn't likely to be solved with a paycheck - no matter how large that sum is. This holdout could go into training camp...and maybe beyond that, unless the Packers break down and decide to trade him.

3. GB - Jordan Love checking it down

Source: ESPN.com

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love has favored check-down passes in practices open to the media thus far. With his receivers in attendance this week, though, he could open it up downfield.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Love opens up now that his top receivers are at practice. It's not a surprise that he's being safe with the ball so far in practice. This doesn't mean he's stuck as a check-down quarterback but it's an indication that he doesn't want to mess up. When he gets more comfortable we'll see if he gets more bold.

4. HOU - RB Phillip Lindsay, RB Mark Ingram not locks

Source: The Athletic - Aaron Reiss

Houston Texans RBs Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram are likely competing for one spot on the final roster, in the opinion of The Athletic's Aaron Reiss, who points out neither player is a special teams contributor.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's an interesting position the former 1,000-yard rushers find themselves in. Lindsay is a dynamic player in space and runs with quickness and decisiveness. Ingram is a no-nonsense back who is swift to and through the hole. While Ingram is a better receiver out of the backfield, Lindsay is younger and has fresher legs. We'll see how the pecking order in the Texans backfield shakes out - and if there's room for both.

5. JAX - Trevor Lawrence working through tight hamstring

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (hamstring) was spotted working with trainers after experiencing some tightness in his hamstring Tuesday, June 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This sounds like a minor hamstring for the 2021 no.1 overall pick. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Lawrence is expected to return to practice Thursday, June 10.

6. TEN - QB Ryan Tannehill restructures

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill restructured his contract Tuesday, June 8, to create more than $15 million in salary cap space.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're certain Tannehill was happy to restructure. The move was to help facilitate the trade for WR Julio Jones, who will make $15.3 million guaranteed this season. The Titans have the weapons around Tannehill to make a Super Bowl run in 2021.

7. TB - Kyle Trask inks rookie deal

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round pick QB Kyle Trask (Florida) signed a four-year contract Tuesday, June 8. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but he reportedly received a signing bonus of $1.385 million.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Trask could be the quarterback of the future for the Buccaneers. He's a big bodied passer with the ability to attack a defense down the field. His mechanics and decision making skill need to be cleaned up, and learning from Tom Brady could go a long way in doing that. Trask is a player we'll monitor closely in dynasty formats.

8. NYG - Kadarius Toney leaves practice early

Source: The Athletic - Dan Duggan

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney (undisclosed) left before the end of practice due to an apparent injury Tuesday, June 8. Toney slipped multiple times during practice and 'seemed to be a bit gimpy' after the final occurrence, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Toney can make players miss in the open field when he's got the rock in his hands. He's super quick and apparently the slipping led to some form of injury. There's no telling the severity, so we'll just have to wait for more information.

9. SEA - Seattle brings Travis Toivonen aboard

Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Free-agent WR Travis Toivonen (North Dakota) signed an undisclosed contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, June 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Toivonen was a four-year starter at North Dakota and put up some nice numbers in college. He went undrafted in 2020, and then signed with the Fan Controlled Football League. Toivonen worked out at the University of Minnesota's Pro Day in April and caught the attention of Seattle's scouts. Fantasy GMs in crazy deep dynasty formats love this type of addition.
