D'Andre Smith 'Going To Be A Real handful'? And MORE

Howdy Folks,

Welcome to Sunday. I've been told there are other sports happening this time of the year. That's great. We'll keep you covered with the NFL News and Notes you need.

Let's go.

1. DET - D'Andre Swift making plays

Detroit Lions RB D'Andre Swift is 'going to be a real handful for defenders in space in the passing game,' according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

The opinions about Swift vary in the fantasy community. With the addition of "A-back" Jamaal Williams in free agency and the recent workout of veteran Todd Gurley, Fantasy GMs are wondering if Swift will get the role in 2021 as a centerpiece of the team's offense. If healthy, Swift has three-down ability and a nose for the end zone. Consider him a RB2 with RB1 upside for the 2021 season. His current ADP is RB14 (2.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

2. NE - Mac Jones wearing sleeve

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots QB Mac Jones (leg) was wearing a compression sleeve on his lower right leg and did not participate in the final session of practice Friday, June 4.

Jones has an opportunity to get more work with the starters with QB Cam Newton battling a hand injury. If Jones is a little banged up with this leg injury then Jarrett Stidham could get a few more looks. We'll see how much Jones can participate in the rest of OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

3. WAS - WR Terry McLaurin feeling chemistry

Source: NFL.com - Michael Baca

Washington Football Team WR Terry McLaurin is talking up the chemistry he gained with new QB Ryan Fitzpatrick during the two weeks of OTA workouts. 'He (Fitzpatrick) puts an emphasis on really being in communication with the receivers,' McLaurin said. That's not just me. I've seen him communicate with just about every receiver on the roster right now, just about what they're thinking with this route, what they're thinking about with this leverage. I think that is very important to do at this part in the season because you want to try to start making that connection early.'

McLaurin should be excited because Fitzpatrick is the best quarterback he's played with in the NFL. Fitzpatrick is going to be aggressive and give his wide receivers a chance to make big plays down the field. McLaurin has put up strong numbers despite sub-par quarterback play from guys like Dwayne Haskins or Alex Smith. This year, Fantasy GMs are looking to McLaurin as a low-end WR1 and he's got a current ADP of WR12 (3.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

4. DET - Victor Bolden working in the slot position

Source: DetroitLions.com - Mike O'Hara

Detroit Lions WR Victor Bolden is likely competing to make the roster a slot receiver, according to Mike O'Hara of DetroitLions.com.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Undrafted out of Oregon State in 2017, Bolden has been with the Lions since 2019. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Lions back in January and now is trying to earn a spot on the 53-man roster as a slot receiver. Bolden has great vision and can make defenders miss in space, so he can work as a return man if needed.

5. NYG - WR Kenny Golladay tops in tough grabs

Source: Pro Football Focus

New York Giants WR Kenny Golladay has earned Pro Football Focus' highest grade (97.5) on contested catches since 2018.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is no doubt that Golladay can make plays for his quarterback. He gets a new start with the Giants this year, and the team has done what they could do to put better pass-catching talent around third-year QB Daniel Jones. If Jones can play more efficiently, Golladay will be there for him as a vertical big-play threat. Projecting Golladay for around 1,100 yards receiving and 5-7 touchdowns sounds about right. That makes him more of a WR2/flex play in 2021.
