C. The Most-Interesting Veteran DB on a New Team
We asked the Footballguys staffers to discuss the top defensive backs who changed teams. This is what they said.

1. CHI - Justin Fields to push for starting job

Source: BearsWire - Brendan Sugrue

Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields said he will do everything he can to earn the starting quarterback job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fields doesn't need time to ramp up to the pro level. He was a standout quarterback for Ohio State and went through his progressions more than any other quarterback in his draft class. Fields will have to beat out Andy Dalton, which may not be that difficult. Not only is Fields a passer with intelligence and upside, he's a dangerous runner if the play breaks down.

2. JAX - Travis Etienne taking WR reps

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne will take all of his rookie minicamp repetitions at wide receiver, Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer said Saturday, May 15. 'Worst-case scenario you have a running back that's elite with receiver skills,' Meyer said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Etienne had 588 receiving yards in 2020, the most of any running back in the FBS. He's a dynamic runner who can make defenders miss with speed and balance. Etienne has big-play ability and can pick up chunk yards in a hurry. The Jaguars have James Robinson as a lead back, but Etienne will work his way into the mix - either as a running back or receiver.

3. PIT - Najee Harris expecting targets

Source: The Athletic - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris said Saturday, May 15, that the team seems to want to use him in the passing game and even split him out wide as a receiver.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harris was getting some ridiculous questions in his post-practice presser about his receiving ability. Yes, he can make crazy catches - he's got big hands and can be a reliable receiver out of the backfield or out wide/in the slot. Harris is a three-down back for the Steelers and should be able to handle a large workload from day one. Fantasy GMs are taking him at RB35 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues. He could easily outperform that ADP.

4. BUF - Four players trying out

Source: BillsWire - Nick Wojton

Free-agent WR Isaiah Ford (Dolphins), LB Joe Giles-Harris (Jaguars), DT Nazair Jones (Seahawks) and DT Eddie Vanderdoes (Texans) are participating in the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ford has had a cup of coffee in the league. He's strong after the catch and his experience might get him a shot if he impresses in this tryout.

5. MIN - Kene Nwangwu set to sign

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Kene Nwangwu on Saturday, May 15, agreed to terms on his rookie contract, and will sign a four-year, $4.23 million deal with a signing bonus of $752,800. He will carry a $848,200 salary cap hit.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nwangwu can take any carry to the house. That's what makes him dangerous as a runner in space or as a return man. He'll likely make his largest impact in 2021 on special teams for the Vikings.

6. SF - WR Marqise Lee at minicamp

Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows

Free-agent WR Marqise Lee (Patriots) is participating in the San Francisco 49ers rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lee had fine seasons for the Jaguars back in 2016 and 2017, but it's been all downhill for him since then. He's just trying to hang on in the league with this 49ers tryout.

7. KC - Daurice Fountain trying out

Source: Chiefs.com - Matt McMullen

Free-agent WR Daurice Fountain (Colts) is participating in the Kansas City Chiefs rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fountain was a super deep sleeper when he joined the Colts a few years ago. However, injuries have derailed his career and took away most every chance he's had to impress. If healthy, Fountain can make plays but he's a long shot to make the Chiefs on this tryout.

8. BAL - Rashod Bateman draws praise

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons

Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman's showing in the team's rookie minicamp so far drew praise from head coach John Harbaugh on Saturday, May 15. 'Impressions are very positive,' Harbaugh said during a news conference. 'He's a no-nonsense guy, has a nice demeanor about him. He's a quick learner. He's everything we thought he would be in terms of the athleticism, the skillset. That's usually the case, but not always the case. What you see is not always what you get. You don't know until you get them out there, in really the first rookie minicamp. And I would say that he is as advertised from a talent standpoint.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bateman should be drawing rave reviews. It's rookie minicamp and not much goes on, but there is some footage of him making difficult grabs against air and that gets people excited. We love his route-running ability and Bateman should immediately become a favorite of QB Lamar Jackson. The Ravens are a run-heavy offense, and that's going to limit the production of Bateman. Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board at WR58 (12.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

9. LAC - Four rookies sign contracts

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Los Angeles Chargers fifth-round draft choice OG Brenden Jaimes, sixth-round draft choice LB Nick Niemann, sixth-round draft choice RB Larry Rountree and seventh-round draft choice S Mark Webb signed four-year contracts with the Chargers Friday, May 14. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rountree is a player to watch in deep dynasty formats. In college at Missouri, Rountree was an attacking runner who is not afraid to mix it up between the tackles. He's not a pile pusher but he's got balance, burst and intent with the rock.

10. GB - WR Davante Adams made routes count

Source: ProFootballFocus.com

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams led the league with an average of 2.96 receiving yards per route run in 2020, according to Pro Football Focus data.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adams is fantastic, and he's the favorite target of QB Aaron Rodgers. With Rodgers perhaps wanting out of Green Bay, Adams fantasy value may change drastically if he's catching passes from Jordan Love (or Drew Lock?). Stay tuned.

11. BAL - Jacob Breeland dealing with knee issue

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens TE Jacob Breeland (knee) continues to try and work through an undisclosed knee issue, and Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Saturday, May 15, that the hope is Breeland will be ready for training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Breeland was added as a priority free agent after the 2020 NFL draft. Coming out of Oregon, Breeland looked like an H-back prospect. He was injured last year and missed the whole season.

12. DET - Detroit signs Jermar Jefferson to deal

Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions seventh-round draft choice RB Jermar Jefferson signed a four-year contract with the Lions Friday, May 14. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jefferson has great feet and the burst to get to and through the hole quickly. He's best used in space as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. He's buried on the depth chart with the Lions but we'll see how he does in deep dynasty formats.
