1. DET - QB Jared Goff viewed as QB1 in Motown

Source: ESPN - Jeff Darlington

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff is considered to be the team's starter 'moving forward,' according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goff has a year or two to prove himself as 'the man' for the Lions. His contract has zero remaining in dead money after the 2022 season, and that seems like the point we'll know whether or not things are working for him with his new team. There's a chance the Lions could move on from him after the 2021 season if things don't get on track for the young quarterback.

2. GB - Coach says QB Aaron Rodgers is staying

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Ryan Wood

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is going to be with the Packers 'for a long time,' according to head coach Matt LaFleur. 'Is that a trick question? Absolutely,' LaFleur said. 'There's no doubt about it. You're talking about the guy who's going to win the MVP of the league. We're not in this position without him.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rodgers was disappointed after the Packers were bounced from the playoffs. That led people to start speculating that Rodgers would ask for a trade. At this point, it seems like that's not going to happen. We'll see if the Rodgers gets some help via the 2021 NFL draft.

3. TB - QB Tom Brady open to playing past 2022

Source: The Washington Post - Mark Maske

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady told reporters over Zoom on Monday, Feb. 1, that he 'definitely' will consider playing beyond age 45.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Many think if Brady wins Super Bowl LV with the Buccaneers that he might hang up his cleats. Brady, who will enter the final season of the two-year contract he signed with the Bucs last spring once Super Bowl LV is over, will reach that age in August of 2023.

4. BUF - Buffalo parts with four players

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Buffalo Bills practice-squad RB Devonta Freeman, LB Darron Lee, WR Kenny Stills and PK Tristan Vizcaino had their contracts expire Monday, Feb. 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman didn't do much with two teams in 2020. His best playing days are far behind him and Freeman may find getting a new gig difficult in 2021. Stills can still play although he didn't do much last season. We'll see some team bring him in for veteran depth.

5. MIN - Tyke Tolbert to interview with MIN

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New York Giants wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert will interview for the Minnesota Vikings' offensive coordinator spot this week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tolbert has been a receivers coach for years in the NFL and is looking for that next step. He worked under former Vikings OC Gary Kubiak when the Broncos won Super Bowl 50 and is a well respected man across the league. If hired, Tolbert would likely implement an offense that is like Kubiak's in that West Coast/Shanahan realm.

6. KC - WR Sammy Watkins back at work Monday

Source: KCChiefs.com - Matt McMullen

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins (calf) participated in practice Monday, Feb. 1, according to head coach Andy Reid. Per Reid, Watkins was held of the team's previous practice (Friday, Jan. 29) as a precaution.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins is going to give it his best to get back out there for the Super Bowl. If he's able to play, that gives the Chiefs another speed weapon at the wide receiver position.

7. GB - Matt LaFleur may not call plays in 2021?

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is open to giving up his duties as a play-caller to offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett if it is for 'the benefit of the team.' As of Monday, Feb. 1, however, LaFleur doesn't see that happening.'Our process, I think, is very, very efficient on offense. And Nathaniel heads that up. But in regards to (if that will) happen, that's something that I think we'll continue to talk about over the course of this offseason. ... That's just how much confidence I have in our offensive staff, that whether it's myself or Hackett calling the plays, I don't see it being any different,' LaFleur said during his Monday press conference.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hackett could take over play-calling duties and the Packers wouldn't miss a beat. This is a news story for the summer but really wouldn't change the structure of the offense much.

8. GB - Green Bay hoping for RB Aaron Jones' return

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Ryan Wood

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones is 'absolutely everything we want in a professional football player,' according to general manager Brian Gutekunst, who expressed the team's desire to get a deal done with Jones on Monday, Feb. 1, before he hits free agency this spring.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Packers added A.J. Dillon in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, and he could be seen as the lead back of the future. Jamaal Williams is set to be an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins also. If Jones' price gets too high, the Packers could have a Dillon-led backfield in 2021.

9. SF - San Francisco contemplating QB Kirk Cousins?

Source: NFLAnalysisNet - Evan Massey

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins 'is a name to keep an eye on' as a potential trade candidate, according to sources. Per those sources, the San Francisco 49ers will push hard to acquire Cousins if the Vikings are open to dealing him.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins would be able to step in and run the offense from day one. That's the same Kubiak/Shanahan offense that he runs in Minnesota. We'll see if the Vikings have any interest in moving on from Cousins this year.

10. MIA - Tua Tagovailoa disappointed with rookie campaign

Source: The Palm Beach Post - Joe Schad

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa described his rookie season as 'below average' during an interview on Mad Dog Sports Radio on Monday, Feb. 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tagovailoa knows that he must get better. Whether or not that's with the Dolphins remains to be seen. As crazy as it sounds, Tagovailoa may be dealt to the Texans in a deal for Deshaun Watson. If not, then it's on him and the Dolphins to find a way to get more consistent and better play from the young quarterback in 2021.
