1. IND - QB Philip Rivers retires

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers announced his retirement Wednesday, Jan. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It didn't take long for Rivers to decide that 17 seasons was enough. He still had something left in the tank, but Rivers is now going to coach high school football in Alabama. Rivers finishes his career having passed for over 63,000 yards and 421 passing touchdowns, so expect to see him in the Hall of Fame someday. The Colts are likely to lose Jacoby Brissett in free agency, so they're 100 percent in the quarterback market both in free agency and the draft.

2. KC - Update on QB Patrick Mahomes' participation

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (concussion, toe) is now listed as limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 20. He was initially listed as a full participant Wednesday.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mahomes is dealing with getting through the concussion protocol, but the toe injury is a concern. That's a type of injury that could linger, so the Chiefs will be careful with Mahomes during the week of practice. We're expecting him out there against the Bills on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game.

3. DET - TE Dan Campbell the new Lions coach

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New Orleans Saints tight ends coach Dan Campbell was hired by the Detroit Lions as head coach Wednesday, Jan. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's finally officially official. This move was anticipated for quite some time, and now it's coming to fruition. Campbell was the right-hand man for Sean Payton with the Saints over the last five years. We'll see what direction he takes the team in and if that includes QB Matthew Stafford in 2021. Campbell is known as a players coach and was the top target for the Lions. They just had to wait for the Saints to be eliminated from the playoffs to make this hire official.

4. TB - RB Ronald Jones gives himself all clear

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones (quadriceps) said Wednesday, Jan. 20, he already feels better than last week and he's all good for the NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is calling himself all good but we don't yet know if he'll start. If not, Leonard Fournette could get the starting nod again.

5. DEN - Jerry Jeudy hurt by QB play

Source: ProFootballFocus.com - Mike Renner

Denver Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy was targeted on a catchable pass on just 59 percent of throws by his quarterbacks in 2020, according to Pro Football Focus.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That sounds about right. Jeudy is better than he produced in 2020, but we'll see if Lock improves or if the Broncos just flat out replace him (Matthew Stafford?) as the starter in 2021.

6. KC - Clyde Edwards-Helaire limited

Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle, hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

7. BUF - Gabriel Davis misses practice

Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills WR Gabriel Davis (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

8. GB - Wednesday injuries from Green Bay

Source: Buccaneers.com

Green Bay Packers LB Krys Barnes (thumb), PK Mason Crosby (shoulder), RB AJ Dillon (quadriceps), DL Kingsley Keke (concussion), TE Marcedes Lewis (knee), LB Za'Darius Smith (thumb), WR Equanimeous St. Brown (knee, ankle), OT Ricky Wagner (knee) and RB Jamaal Williams (ankle) were limited at practice Wednesday, Jan. 20. S Will Redmond (knee) practiced in full.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on Dillon and Williams in the backfield as the week of practice continues. Both are key players behind starter Aaron Jones and can bring some power to the field as runners, plus Williams can work effectively as a receiving back.

Source: Buccaneers.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones (finger, calf) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Jan. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones was able to get into the mix in the Divisional Round. It's no surprise he's limited on Wednesday given the nature of his injuries. We'll know more about his playing status later in the week. He should play against the Packers but we don't know if Jones is going to start or if Leonard Fournette will get another nod.

10. TB - WR Mike Evans limited at practice

Source: Buccaneers.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (knee) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Jan. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's difficult to believe that Evans had a hyper-extended knee a couple of weeks ago. He'll be limited this week but could be a standout player against the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

11. TB - WR Antonio Brown's status uncertain

Source: FOX Sports - Sara Walsh

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown (knee) is considered day-to-day because of his knee injury, and his status for the NFC Championship game is uncertain, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The knee injury kept him out of practice on Wednesday. Who knows if he'll be able to practice at all this week. That makes Brown a potential game-time decision for the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

16. BAL - Baltimore wants QB Lamar Jackson long term

Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is wanted on a long-term contract, according to head coach John Harbaugh Wednesday, Jan. 20. 'Absolutely, we want Lamar to sign a long-term deal and be with us,' Harbaugh said. 'I'm totally certain that's going to happen. When it happens, that's the details.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team can build around him for years to come, and he'll be compensated as one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league when his extension is done. Expect the Ravens to work on this extension over the summer.
