1. NO - RB Alvin Kamara out for season finale
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (illness) reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 twice this week and has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers. He will likely be placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Jan. 1, and may also be unable to play in the team's playoff game next week.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Saints can still get the #1 seed with a win, a Seattle win, and a Green Bay loss. That could be crucial with Kamara on the wrong side of a 10 day timeline for next weekend. Latavius Murray will be the starter at Carolina.
2. JAX - James Robinson ruled out
Source: Jaguars.com
Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson (ankle) on Friday, Jan. 1, was ruled out of the team's Week 17 game against the Indianapolis Colts with an ankle injury.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Dare Ogunbowale will get the start, but he's only a flex play or desperation RB2.
3. PHI - RB Miles Sanders ruled out
Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Boston Scott will be the lead back for the Eagles this week.
4. ATL - WR Julio Jones to miss finale
Source: NFL Network - Andrew Siciliano
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (hamstring) on Friday, Jan. 1, was ruled out of the team's Week 17 game Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jones tried to play through his season-long hamstring issues, but it was too much to overcome in the last few weeks of the season. He'll almost certainly be back with the Falcons next year, but 2021 could be his and Matt Ryan's last season with the team.
5. WAS - No practice for WR Terry McLaurin
Source: The Washington Post - Nicki Jhabvala
Washington Football Team WR Terry McLaurin (ankle) is not practicing Friday, Jan. 1, per the team's public relations staff.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
McLaurin is likely out for Week 17. Logan Thomas, J.D. McKissic and Cam Sims should carry the passing game against the Eagles.
6. WAS - QB Alex Smith's status in question
Source: WashingtonFootball.com
Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith (calf) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We'd expect Smith to play, but Taylor Heinecke was good in his stint at the end of the Week 16 loss, so the team might be in good hands either way.
7. BUF - WR Cole Beasley to miss Week 17
Source: BuffaloBills.com
Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Isaiah McKenzie could see extended action in the slot with Beasley sitting for at least this week. We have to consider Beasley questionable at best for next week's divisional game.
8. PIT - WR Diontae Johnson misses practice
Source: Steelers.com
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Diontae Johnson (illness) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, but is not on the injury report for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson and other Steelers starters could sit after a few series with Ben Roethlisberger already missing this game to get ready and rested for the playoffs.
9. SF - Brandon Aiyuk ruled out
Source: 49ers.com
San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Aiyuk was producing at a WR1 clip in the second half of the season. Kyle Shanahan got an instant hit with his second first round pick of 2020. We'll see who ends up throwing him the ball next season as the 49ers sit at a quarterback crossroads.
10. DEN - KJ Hamler out for finale
Source: Broncos Wire - Jon Heath
Denver Broncos WR KJ Hamler (concussion) was held out of practice Friday, Jan. 1, and will miss the team's Week 17 game Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, according to head coach Vic Fangio.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
DaeSean Hamilton should play a larger role this week with Hamler sitting. Hamler showed the speed that made him a second round pick at times, but the Broncos offense never gelled around Drew Lock to maximize Hamler's value.
11. JAX - DJ Chark to miss Week 17
Source: Jaguars.com
Jacksonville Jaguars WR DJ Chark Jr. (shin) on Friday, Jan. 1, was ruled out of the team's Week 17 game Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Collin Johnson is also out. Laviska Shenault, Keelan Cole, and Chris Conley will be the top three Jaguars receivers against the Colts.
12. WAS - Antonio Gibson held out Friday
Source: The Washington Post - Nicki Jhabvala
Washington Football Team RB Antonio Gibson (toe) is not participating in the team's inside practice Friday, Jan. 1, per the team public relations staff.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The plan all week has been to rest Gibson in practice but play him Sunday night. We'll listen for more updates this weekend, but expect Gibson to go unless you hear otherwise before the final game of the regular season.
13. IND - Anthony Castonzo placed on IR
Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons
Indianapolis Colts OT Anthony Castonzo (ankle) on Friday, Jan. 1, was placed on the Reserve/Injured list, and will miss the postseason if the Colts qualify. In a corresponding move, C Joey Hunt was added to the active roster from the practice squad.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Castonzo is still under contract next year, but could still retire after his 2020 status was unsure entering this year. The team needs to make future plans at left tackle whether he plays another season or not.
14. KC - Clyde Edwards-Helaire ruled out
Source: Chiefs.com
Kansas City Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Chiefs are hoping that he'll be ready for the playoffs. Darwin Thompson should be the most used back this week with Le'Veon Bell banged up and the Chiefs likely taking it easy on their starters.
15. MIA - Week 17 injury report for Miami
Source: MiamiDolphins.com
Miami Dolphins WR Jakeem Grant (ankle), OG Solomon Kindley (knee, foot), DE Shaq Lawson (shoulder) and WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) were limited in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and are listed as questionable for Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills. S Bobby McCain (ankle), OL Ereck Flowers (ankle), S Kavon Frazier (shoulder), TE Mike Gesicki (shoulder), CB Xavien Howard (shoulder), CB Jamal Perry (foot) and LB Kyle Van Noy (hip) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Grant and Parker could play, but they are uncertain to be able to finish the game and Tua Tagovailoa hasn't exactly supersized their production, so they're not Week 17 options.
16. CAR - Carolina's Week 17 injury report
Source: Panthers.com
Carolina Panthers DE Brian Burns (shoulder), RB Mike Davis (ankle), RB Christian McCaffrey (thigh) and OT Russell Okung (calf) did not practice all week and are listed as doubtful for Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints. CB Troy Pride Jr. (hip) was limited in practice for a second straight day Friday, Jan. 1, and is also listed as doubtful. DE Efe Obada (shoulder, toe), DE Yetur Gross-Matos (shoulder) and DE Austin Larkin (shoulder) practiced in full Friday and are listed as questionable. WR Robby Anderson (groin), OG John Miller (shoulder), FB Alex Armah (thigh), DE Marquis Haynes (shoulder) and DB Natrell Jamerson (hip) also practiced in full Friday but have been removed from the injury report.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Rodney Smith will be the lead back for the Panthers this week, but Curtis Samuel could also get some extra work in the backfield.
17. NYG - NY Giants' Week 17 injury report
Source: Giants.com
New York Giants FB Elijhaa Penny (illness) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys. WR Golden Tate (calf) also did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. LB Cam Brown (illness) was added to the injury report and did not practice Friday, Jan. 1; he is listed as questionable. TE Evan Engram (calf), S Jabrill Peppers (ankle) and WR Sterling Shepard (rib) were limited in practice all week but no longer appear on the injury report. CB Darnay Holmes (knee) and QB Daniel Jones (hamstring) practiced in full all week and have also been removed from the injury report.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jones being off of the injury report is a good sign that he'll be able to run more this week and otherwise activate dormant parts of the Giants offense.
18. ARI - Week 17 injury report for Arizona
Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss
Arizona Cardinals S Budda Baker (neck), RB Chase Edmonds (hip) and WR Larry Fitzgerald (groin) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and are listed as questionable for Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams. TE Darrell Daniels (hamstring) and TE Maxx Williams (ankle) were limited Friday and are also listed as questionable. TE Dan Arnold (back), WR DeAndre Hopkins (hip), CB Dre Kirkpatrick (hamstring, calf), QB Kyler Murray (leg), DL Domata Peko (non-injury), LB Haason Reddick (hip), S Jalen Thompson (ankle) and RB Jonathan Ward (ankle) practiced in full Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Edmonds didn't finish Week 16, so his status this week could end up giving Kenyan Drake more work.
19. ARI - RB Chase Edmonds remains sidelined
Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons
Arizona Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds (hip) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, as he deals with a hip injury.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Edmonds is a game time decision at best, but more likely to sit than play, which would give a few extra touches to Kenyan Drake.
20. KC - Kansas City's Week 17 injury report
Source: Chiefs.com
Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill (hamstring), OL Mike Remmers (back), RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle), LB Ben Niemann (hamstring) and WR Sammy Watkins (calf) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 17 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. DT Derrick Nnadi (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, while RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) was upgraded to a limited session; both players are listed as questionable. LB Damien Wilson (knee) was limited in practice all week but no longer appears on the injury report. CB Charvarius Ward (hamstring), DT Mike Pennel (back) and DE Frank Clark (illness) practiced in full Friday and have also been removed from the injury report.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Patrick Mahomes will also sit for this game. Bell might play a limited amount, but the team is likely to use Darwin Thompson the most of any of their backs since Darrel Williams is currently the healthiest and most experienced back on the roster.
21. LAR - LA Rams' injury report for Week 17
Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss
Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff (thumb) and LB Micah Kiser (knee) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 17 versus the Arizona Cardinals. LB Leonard Floyd (abdomen) was added to the injury report and did not practice Friday, Jan. 1; he is listed as questionable. RB Cam Akers (ankle) was upgraded to a limited practice Friday and is also listed as questionable. RB Malcolm Brown (shoulder), DL Aaron Donald (non-injury) and OL David Edwards (ankle) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Akers now could be on track to play after getting back on the practice field. We'll be watching inactives on Sunday to see if he's back in his starter role after missing Week 16.
22. BAL - Questionable tag for RB Gus Edwards
Source: BaltimoreRavens.com
Baltimore Ravens RB Gus Edwards (back) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This could lead the team to give J.K. Dobbins the majority of work in the backfield this week after the two had been splitting the work somewhat evenly in recent weeks.
23. CHI - WR Allen Robinson listed as limited
Source: ChicagoBears.com
Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, but is not on the injury report for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Robinson should be the leading target in the Bears offense in possibly his last game in a Chicago uniform as he enters free agency this offseason.
24. HOU - Houston's injury report for Week 17
Source: Titans.com - Jim Wyatt
Houston Texans OL Brent Qvale (concussion) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans. OT Laremy Tunsil (ankle) also did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. CB Phillip Gaines (knee) and RB Duke Johnson (neck) were limited in practice all week and are listed as questionable. WR Keke Coutee (foot) was upgraded to a full practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been removed from the injury report.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Duke Johnson could play, but David Johnson is hot, coming off of his two best games of the year, and should still be in Week 17 lineups.
25. SEA - RB Carlos Hyde's status in question
Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle
Seattle Seahawks RB Carlos Hyde (illness) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Rashaad Penny is ready to play a larger role and he could relegate Hyde to third string with a good performance this week.
26. NO - RB Latavius Murray a full participant
Source: NewOrleansSaints.com
New Orleans Saints RB Latavius Murray (quadriceps) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is not on the injury report for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Murray will have to carry the load this week with Alvin Kamara placed on the covid list.
27. GB - RB Jamaal Williams not on injury report
Source: Packers.com
Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams (quadriceps) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is not on the injury report for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
A.J. Dillon's fantasy prominence will be short lived as Williams returns this week, but the second round pick gave the Packers a lot to think about when they decide whether to sign Aaron Jones to a new deal this offseason.
28. NE - New England's injury report for Week 17
Source: Patriots.com
New England Patriots C David Andrews (calf) and OL Shaq Mason (calf) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 17 against the New York Jets. RB Damien Harris (ankle) did not practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has also been ruled out. LBs Terez Hall (ankle) and LB Anfernee Jennings (shoulder) also did not practice all week but are listed as questionable. DB Devin McCourty (shoulder), LB Ja'Whaun Bentley (shoulder), DL Adam Butler (shoulder), LB Shilique Calhoun (knee), LS Joe Cardona (ankle), DL Byron Cowart (back), OL Jermaine Eluemunor (ankle), PK Nick Folk (back), DL Lawrence Guy (shoulder), OL Justin Herron (ankle), DB J.C. Jackson (knee), WR Donte Moncrief (thigh), WR Matthew Slater (knee) and DB Justin Bethel (neck) were limited in practice Friday and are also listed as questionable.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Harris being out makes Sony Michel a solid play this week. The Patriots should be able to lean on the running game against the Jets.
29. SF - Week 17 injury report for San Francisco
Source: 49ers.com
San Francisco 49ers DL Kevin Givens (non-injury), DT Javon Kinlaw (knee), WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring), CB Richard Sherman (calf), CB K'Waun Williams (shin) and WR Brandon Aiyuk (ankle) did not participate in practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 17 versus the Seattle Seahawks. Kendrick Bourne and Richie James will be the starting receivers with Aiyuk and Samuel out for Week 17.
30. PHI - TE Dallas Goedert will not be available
Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert (calf) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Zach Ertz has a good chance to lead the Eagles in targets this week.
31. CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey listed as doubtful
Source: Panthers.com
Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (thigh) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as doubtful for Week 17.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
McCaffrey's injuries were bitterly disappointing to endure for anyone who had him in fantasy leagues this year, but he's still likely to go #1 in 2021 drafts.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
Peace,
