A. Dr. Abib Agbetoba Wins Footballguys Players Championship Back to Back
Maybe one of the most impressive things I've seen in Fantasy Sports. Dr. Abib Agbetoba won $250,000 with first place in the 2019 Footballguys Players Championship. He won AGAIN in 2020 this time taking home the $500,000 Grand Prize for first place. Amazing. Our Sigmund Bloom interviewed him and talked about the wins.

1. LAC - WR Keenan Allen put on COVID list

Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Dec. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That ends Allen's season as he won't be cleared to play in Week 17 against the Chiefs. Allen fought through injuries to post 100 catches for 992 yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He's signed through the 2024 season, Allen has a cap hit of $19.2 million in 2021 with $8.1 million in dead money. The future is bright for the Chargers because of QB Justin Herbert and Allen can continue to be a dominant presence for the team so long as he's healthy.

2. MIA - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick positive for virus

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (illness) has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, Dec. 31, and will miss the team's regular-season finale Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, according to a source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fitzpatrick is the team's 'closer' at the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa is the starter but when things get tight near the end of the game, the Dolphins have used Fitzpatrick instead. This week against the Bills, Tagovailoa is going to get a full workload.

3. WAS - Antonio Gibson gets rest day

Source: The Washington Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Washington Football Team RB Antonio Gibson (toe) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 31, but head coach Ron Rivera said Gibson is 'fine' and was getting a day of rest.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's two days in a row that Gibson has missed. Rivera seems to be hopeful, so we'll watch to see if the rookie running back can practice on Friday.

4. NFL - Kyle Trask declares for draft

Source: ESPN.com - Brett McMurphy

University of Florida QB Kyle Trask on Thursday, Dec. 31, announced he will forgo his final season and enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Trask has worked from all sorts of platforms during his college career at Florida. While most college quarterbacks work exclusively from the shotgun, Trask has worked plenty under center, in the pistol and of course in the shotgun as well. He's a timing/rhythm thrower who can stay on schedule with quick/underneath routes. Trask needs to work on his lower-body mechanics to be a better and more accurate passer. He's looking to be a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

5. PHI - WR DeSean Jackson sits again

Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All it takes is one play with Jackson. A perfect example of that was last week. Jackson was in his first game back since Week 7 and only had one target against the Cowboys. It just happened to be good for 81 yards and a touchdown. He played 20 snaps last week and might get some more this week if he can play. Jackson is the ultimate 'what the heck' flex due to his small role but big-play ability.

6. WAS - QB Alex Smith takes opening reps

Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith (calf) upped his participation level in practice Thursday, Dec. 31, and opened workouts by taking the first first-team reps at quarterback.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith is trending in the right direction to start. With Dwayne Haskins released, Washington could really use a healthy (ish) Smith out there on the field.

7. DET - WR Kenny Golladay's season over

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay (hip) will not play in Week 17, interim head coach Darrell Bevell said Thursday, Dec. 31

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Golladay hasn't played since Week 8. Set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021, Golladay will have to see what kind of market he has coming off an injury-riddled season.

8. KC - WR Tyreek Hill sits out Thursday

Source: Kansas City Star - Herbie Teope

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill (hamstring) missed practice for a second consecutive day Thursday, Dec. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill isn't going to play in Week 17. The Chiefs are resting quite a few key starters as they've got nothing to play for against the Chargers on Sunday.

9. MIA - Tua Tagovailoa may be good to go

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa practiced Thursday, Dec. 31, suggesting he has not been deemed a close contact to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick who has tested positive for COVID-19.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tagovailoa is the team's starter and is developing as a pro. When the team needs a 'closer' they can turn to Fitzpatrick. Now that he's on the COVID list, Tagovailoa is going to have to work for the whole game.

10. BUF - WR Cole Beasley remains sidelined

Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Everbody knows Beasley is not going to practice. Beasley is going to be shut down for the season finale with the hopes he can be ready for the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

11. LVR - TE Jason Witten undecided on 2021

Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez

Las Vegas Raiders TE Jason Witten has not decided on his future with any 'certainty,' according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Witten hasn't done much this year as a reserve behind Darren Waller. In 10 games, Witten has just 13 catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns. He might try to head back to the booth after his playing days are done.

12. WAS - Optimism for WR Terry McLaurin

Source: The Washington Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Washington Football Team WR Terry McLaurin (ankle) missed practice Thursday, Dec. 31, but head coach Ron Rivera said he's optimistic from he saw from the wideout. 'You guys didn't get a chance to see it because we didn't want you to see it, but he looked good,' Rivera said. 'He moved around. It was a positive step. We'll see how he feels tomorrow.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's an interesting way to phrase things...a 'positive absence' isn't what we normally get after a player misses a week then misses both Wednesday and Thursday practices. If Rivera is optimistic, then we'll hold out hope that McLaurin can practice on Friday. Stay tuned.

13. DET - WR Marvin Jones looking to move on?

Source: The Athletic - Chris Burke

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones was non-committal when asked about his desire to remain with the team next season, according to The Athletic's Chris Burke, who indicated Jones said he was 'very excited' about free agency and also hinted that he may prioritize signing with a contender.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions should undergo massive changes this offseason. They could lose both Jones and Kenny Golladay in free agency to start. Then, watch out to see if they end up trading away QB Matthew Stafford.

14. CLE - WR Jarvis Landry comes off virus list

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry on Thursday, Dec. 31, was activated off the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Landry is going to be back in action after missing last week's game on the COVID list. It's a must-win against the Steelers in Week 17, and Landry always has WR2/flex appeal in PPR formats.

15. DET - Coach confident in QB Matthew Stafford

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) remained out of practice Thursday, Dec. 31, due to a sprained ankle, but head coach Darrell Bevell is optimistic Stafford will start Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. 'You're going to have to convince me a lot that this guy's not going to go,' Bevell said Thursday. 'He's as tough as they come, tough as nails, he wants to be out there, and I think really those two things are probably the most important, if the guys want to. I mean, I always say this, I always say that your mind's a powerful thing and you can do a lot if you just believe in that. And the guy wants it, so there's not a doubt in mind that he won't make it happen, but obviously we're going to continue to go through the week and see how it goes.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It seems like Stafford might tough it out again. It's a meaningless game and could be another abbreviated start if Stafford is out there. This could be his final game with the Lions.

16. KC - Quick return for Clyde Edwards-Helaire?

Source: The Kansas City Star - Sam McDowell

Kansas City Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) appears to have a good chance to 'be ready in a couple of weeks,' according to comments made by running backs coach Deland McCullough Injury on Thursday, Dec. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs have wrapped up the only bye week in the AFC playoff bracket, so that gives Edwards-Helaire some more time to heal up. We'll see if he's ready for the Divisional Round of the postseason. In the meantime, Le'Veon Bell and Darrell Williams will work on the backfield together.

17. PHI - RB Miles Sanders added to injury report

Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports around the league indicate this is not a big deal. The Eagles don't have anything to play for in Week 17 and might hold Sanders out. If they do, Boston Scott would get the starter's workload. Let's see if Sanders can practice a bit more on Friday.
