News And Notes From Around The League

Howdy Folks,

It's Week 17 and we're right here for you. We've got some News and Notes as the league wraps up the Regular Season.

Let's get to it.

1. PIT - QB Mason Rudolph to start

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will sit in Week 17. QB Mason Rudolph will get the start against the Cleveland Browns.

Tell us if you've heard this before; don't play your championship in Week 17. If you've been starting Roethlisberger off and on at times this season then you'll have to find a different option. Rudolph is not a good quarterback and not a fantasy option in the championship round.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will sit out Week 17. QB Mason Rudolph will be under center.

The Steelers are giving Roethlisberger a bit of rest before the postseason. They lost the first-round bye weeks ago and now will have to play in the Wild Card Round and make a run at the Super Bowl.

3. TB - RB Ronald Jones reinstated

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones (finger) was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Dec. 29.

Jones should get a warm-up game in Week 17 before the Buccaneers head to the postseason. Now that he's back, Leonard Fournette will lose snaps and should go back to being the backup to Jones.

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Dec. 29.

It's unknown at this time if Kupp was a close contact or if he's tested positive. We'll know more about his status later in the week, but it looks like he might not be able to play in Week 17.

5. BUF - WR Cole Beasley unlikely to play Week 17

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (leg) is considered week-to-week after suffering a leg injury in Week 16 against the New England Patriots, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Beasley is getting some extra time to rest. He's a favorite target of QB Josh Allen and they need him as healthy as possible for the postseason run. There aren't too many teams who could knock off the Chiefs in the playoffs, but the Bills are most certainly a team who could.

6. LAR - LA Rams make three moves

Denver Broncos QB Blake Bortles was officially signed off the practice squad by the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, Dec. 29. OT Bobby Evans was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, while RB Darrell Henderson (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Jared Goff (thumb) banged up, the Rams needed more depth. Bortles played with the Rams in 2019 so he's familiar with the system. John Wolford will get the start for the Rams in Week 17.

7. MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph headed to IR

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 29. OG Kyle Hinton was signed off the practice squad to take his spot on the active roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In 12 games this season, Rudolph caught 28 passes for 334 yards and one touchdown. Irv Smith has taken over at the position, and we'll see if the Vikings want to bring Rudolph back in 2021. Rudolph is signed through the 2023 season and has a $9.4 million cap hit next year. There's $4.3 million remaining in dead money on his deal in 2021, so perhaps the Vikings will want to restructure his deal.

8. CLE - Cleveland sends two to COVID list

Cleveland Browns TE Harrison Bryant and S Andrew Sendejo were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Dec. 29.

Keep an eye on Bryant and how this plays out this week.

9. PHI - Jalen Hurts gets the nod in season finale

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Les Bowen

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was named the starting quarterback by head coach Doug Pederson for Week 17 against the Washington Football Team on Tuesday, Dec. 29. However, Peterson told reporters no decision has been made about moving forward with Hurts or Carson Wentz as the starter in 2021.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurts has plenty of fantasy value because of his rushing ability. If you're playing this week, Hurts is a consideration as a QB1. Next year we'll have to see if Wentz stays with the team and then we'll see who wins the quarterback competition.
