News And Notes From Around The League

Howdy Folks,

A wild day of Football is in the books with more to come. We've got News and Notes for you so let's get to it.

J

1. CLE - WR Odell Beckham feared to have major injury

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. (knee) is feared to have suffered a major knee injury in the Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, a source said Sunday, Oct. 25. He is scheduled for an MRI on Monday, Oct. 26.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing is official yet so let's see what Monday holds. Rashard Higgins and Donovan Peoples-Jones made the most of their extra playing time today and Baker Mayfield had his best game of the season. The Browns are contenders with a tough game against the Raiders up next.

2. DAL - QB Andy Dalton quiet before injury

Source: NFL.com

Dallas Cowboys QB Andy Dalton (head) went 9-for-19 for 75 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception against the Washington Football Team in Week 7 before he left the game with a head injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dalton has been a disaster behind an offensive line that is down to backups at all of the key positions. We might see Ben Dinucci start vs. the Eagles and the Cowboys are somehow still in contention.

3. CAR - RB Mike Davis held in check

Source: NFL.com

Carolina Panthers RB Mike Davis rushed for 12 yards on seven carries against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7. He also caught five passes for 24 yards during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis had a floor game and couldn't get going against the Saints run defense. He'll probably start Thursday night, although we'll monitor Christian McCaffrey's status. Davis is still a great start in Week 8 despite the down game in the Superdome.

4. WAS - Two touchdowns for QB Kyle Allen

Source: NFL.com

Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen went 15-for-25 for 194 yards and two touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen wasn't a huge hit against the Cowboys, but only because the Dallas offense did nothing to stay in the game and Washington was able to mothball the offense in the second half. Allen goes into his bye with a chance to lead Washington to a playoff spot in the abysmal NFC East.

5. WAS - WR Terry McLaurin reaches end zone

Source: NFL.com

Washington Football Team WR Terry McLaurin caught seven passes for 90 yards and one touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. He was targeted 11 times during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McLaurin could have easily done more in this game if the Cowboys had kept it closer. He goes into his bye as a strong WR2 now that Kyle Allen has settled in. Travis Fulgham should be able to take advantage of the Cowboys secondary next week.

6. WAS - Antonio Gibson has outstanding game

Source: NFL.com

Washington Football Team RB Antonio Gibson rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gibson rewarded fantasy players with a big game that reinforces the idea that we should start running backs against the Cowboys (really everyone). Next week, that will likely be Boston Scott.

7. ATL - QB Matt Ryan goes over 300 yards

Source: ESPN

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan ended up 31-of-42 for 338 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan had a good game with Julio Jones for the second straight week. He's a matchup QB1 on Thursday at Carolina.

8. CAR - Two touchdowns for WR D.J. Moore

Source: NFL.com

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore caught four passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7. He was targeted five times during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moore was left alone deep on one touchdown and the Saints couldn't tackle him on a glorified handoff on the other one. This result was more about the Saints defense lapses than Moore returning to form, but he should still be in lineups on Thursday against the Falcons.

9. SF - WR Deebo Samuel injures hamstring

Source: NFL.com

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury during the Week 7 game and has been ruled out.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Samuel has been running strong and looking good on his signature wide receiver as running back plays since coming back from foot surgery. This should make Brandon Aiyuk a must start next week against Seattle.

10. CLE - Harrison Bryant fills in admirably

Source: ESPN

Cleveland Browns TE Harrison Bryant ended up with four receptions for 56 yards and two touchdowns on five targets in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, stepping up for the missing TE Austin Hooper (appendectomy).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant should be considered a potential streamer next week against the Raiders even though David Njoku also caught a score today. He's clearly ahead of Njoku in the passing game pecking order.

11. DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott quiet in Week 7

Source: NFL.com

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 45 yards on 12 carries against the Washington Football Team in Week 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The bottom is dropping out of Elliott's value as the offensive line and passing game are in shambles around him. He'll still be in lineups next week but we are lowing expectations greatly.

12. WAS - S Landon Collins likely out for season

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Washington Football Team S Landon Collins (Achilles) is believed to have suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury during the Week 7 game, according to sources. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday, Oct. 26, to determine the severity of the injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Collins is one of the key defensive performers for Washington, so this might have been a costly victory. Washington will have the bye to make a plan for how they will replace him.

13. CLE - WR Jarvis Landry makes five catches

Source: ESPN

Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry (rib) posted five catches for 48 yards on six targets in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, playing through a cracked rib he suffered earlier in the month.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Landry threw another big completion downfield too. He was the main target for Baker Mayfield immediately after Odell Beckham went out, but other players stepped up as the game went on. Landry does have a little more appeal as a WR3/Flex with Beckham out heading into a matchup with the Raiders.

14. NO - QB Drew Brees accounts for three TDs

Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees went 29-for-36 for 287 yards and two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7. He also rushed for two yards and one touchdown on three carries during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees sneak touchdown was possibly just short of the goal line and a fumble, but it was upheld. That's the only blemish on a terrific day without his top two receivers. Brees fantasy stock is up, although he's a sit against the Bears next week in 1QB leagues.

15. DAL - WR Amari Cooper catches seven passes

Source: NFL.com

Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper caught seven passes for 80 yards against the Washington Football Team in Week 7. He was targeted seven times during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooper was the only Cowboys who had a decent game in a humiliating loss. Ben Dinucci hit him on his only successful downfield pass, and that is probably enough to keep Cooper in lineups next week even though he'll face Darius Slay.

16. NO - RB Alvin Kamara posts 148 total yards

Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara rushed for 83 yards on 14 carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7. He also caught eight passes for 65 yards during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kamara didn't score but he was still the engine of the offense. He'll have a tougher matchup against the Bears next week.

17. CLE - WR Rashard Higgins hits triple digits

Source: ESPN

Cleveland Browns WR Rashard Higgins ended up with six receptions for a career-high 110 yards on his six targets in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Higgins will be a pickup in deeper leagues and he should have the chance to be a starter with Odell Beckham likely out for the year. He has a lot of chemistry and experience with Baker Mayfield and it showed in the effort in relief of Beckham today.

18. CLE - RB Kareem Hunt totals 102 yards, score

Source: ESPN

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt rushed 18 times for 76 yards in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals and he added three receptions for 26 yards and a score on his four targets.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunt wasn't as successful as the Browns running game was in the first matchup, but he scored and gave his fantasy teams an RB1 week as expected. He'll be carrying the load for a team in playoff contention with the Raiders coming to town next week.

19. DET - WR Kenny Golladay hits the century mark

Source: ESPN

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay posted six receptions for 114 yards on seven targets in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Golladay had a predictably good game against the Falcons secondary, although it was only the last improbable drive that put him over 100 yards. He remains a high ceiling WR2 heading into a matchup with the beatable Colts outside corners.

20. NO - Marquez Callaway leads team in receiving

Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints WR Marquez Callaway caught eight passes for 75 yards against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7. He was targeted 10 times during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Callaway left with an ankle injury late in the game or he could have had even more. He scored but it was wiped off of the board with a weak offensive pass interference call. Michael Thomas and/or Emmanuel Sanders could return next week and Callaway is no sure thing to play, but he certainly announced his presence in dynasty leagues.

21. SF - RB Jeff Wilson injured on touchdown tote

Source: Bay Area News Group - Cam Inman

San Francisco 49ers RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (leg) suffered a left leg injury in the third quarter of the Week 7 game against the New England Patriots while scoring his career-high third touchdown of the day.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson was having a career game with Kyle Shanahan trusting him to lead the backfield. He might have been on a lot of waiver wires while he was racking up yards and scores. Tevin Coleman will be back soon to complicate things and it will be difficult to pick a 49ers back to plug in against the Seahawks next week.

22. ATL - RB Todd Gurley punches in two touchdowns

Source: ESPN

Atlanta Falcons RB Todd Gurley ran 23 times for 63 yards and two touchdowns in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions and he added two receptions for 19 yards on three targets.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gurley's second touchdown was costly as the Falcons lost a chance to run out the clock and try a game-winning chipshot. It was a good fantasy result for Gurley and he has earned trust in lineups heading into a good matchup at Carolina on Thursday.

23. CLE - QB Baker Mayfield throws five touchdowns

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Marla Ridenour

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield (rib) completed 22-of-28 passes for 297 yards, a career-high five touchdowns and one interception in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he set a franchise record with 21 consecutive completions. CBS broadcaster Spero Dedes reported before the game that he was playing with a cracked rib, too.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mayfield started poorly and then came roaring back with a huge game.

24. DEN - RB Phillip Lindsay out due to concussion

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay (concussion) left the Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a concussion and he will not return.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lindsay was ahead of Melvin Gordon and outplaying him before this injury knocked him out of the game. We'll see if he's ready to face the Chargers next week, but if you have Lindsay, you should be encouraged despite the early departure.

25. CAR - QB Teddy Bridgewater plays well in Week 7

Source: NFL.com

Carolina Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater went 23-for-28 for 254 yards and two touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bridgewater almost kept up with Drew Brees in a classic quarterback duel, but his kicker couldn't make a 65-yard kick to tie the game up after he took a costly sack. The Saints continue to be a very generous pass defense and they'll face Nick Foles next week. Bridgewater has a choice matchup against the Falcons on Thursday and should be considered a matchup QB1.

26. DET - QB Matthew Stafford passes for 340 yards, TD

Source: ESPN

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 25-of-36 passes for 340 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons and he ran for eight yards.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford was actually quiet for fantasy until a touchdown capped an incredible last second comeback. He'll face a tougher Indianapolis defense next week as the Lions are back in the hunt at 3-3.
