News And Notes From Around The League

Howdy Folks,

We're heading towards Game Day. Buckle up. We've got some News and Notes so let's get to it.

1. PIT - WR Deon Cain activated

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Deon Cain was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Oct. 17.

Ah yes, Deon Cain. We have to admit having a soft spot for Cain in super deep dynasty formats. He's a former Clemson receiver with a nice size/speed combination...but he's done little in his pro career and bounced around to a couple of different teams. Fantasy GMs in super deep dynasty formats might still be holding out hope too.

2. BUF - QB Josh Allen set for Week 6

Buffalo Bills Week 6 Josh Allen (shoulder) practiced in full Saturday, Oct. 17, and doesn't have an injury designation for the Week 6 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Allen is coming off his first loss of the season as the Bills couldn't overcome a swarming Titans defense. We'll see how he responds in what could be a shootout against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Allen is a high-upside QB1 for Fantasy GMs in Week 6.

3. KC - WR Mecole Hardman in the clear

Kansas City Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman (ankle) practiced in full Saturday, Oct. 17, and doesn't have an injury designation for Week 6.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hardman's speed and ability to attack a defense deep makes him a favorite target of QB Patrick Mahomes. Without Sammy Watkins (hamstring) on Monday against the Bills, Hardman could perform like a flex play with upside in Week 6.

4. DEN - TE Noah Fant downgraded to out

Source: DenverBroncos.com

Denver Broncos TE Noah Fant (ankle) was downgraded Saturday, Oct. 17, to out for Week 6 at the New England Patriots.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fant was 50/50 in terms of returning this week but he's not yet fully recovered. That means the team will use more of Nick Vannett and Jake Butt in Week 6 against the Patriots. We might see rookie Albert Okwuegbunam activated for the first time this year too.

Hill is going to attack the Bills defense, and he should be in line for his usual WR1 production in Week 6.

6. DEN - QB Blake Bortles released by Denver

Denver Broncos QB Blake Bortles was released Saturday, Oct. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Borltes was picked up a couple of weeks ago with QB Drew Lock banged up. With Lock returning to the lineup this week, the team felt comfortable moving on from Bortles. Jeff Driskel and Brett Rypien are the quarterbacks behind Lock on the depth chart.

7. DEN - Denver brings two onto active roster

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Denver Broncos RB Jeremy Cox and LB Josh Watson were elevated to the active roster Saturday, Oct. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Melvin Gordon (illness) out on Sunday, the team needed more running back depth behind Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman. Undrafted out of Old Dominion in 2019, Cox was signed to a futures deal by the Broncos in early 2020. He is a big back, weighing 225 pounds, but he has explosive traits (39-inch vertical leap) and can consistently catch passes out of the backfield.

8. KC - WR Sammy Watkins ruled out for Week 6

Source: Chiefs.com

Updating previous stories, Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) didn't practice Saturday, Oct. 17, and was officially ruled out for the Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills Monday, Oct. 19.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins with a soft tissue injury is not something new. The team will turn to Mecole Hardman with Watkins out for Monday night's game against the Bills.

9. BUF - WR John Brown questionable for Week 6

Source: Chiefs.com

Buffalo Bills WR John Brown (knee) was a limited participant at practice Saturday, Oct. 17, and is questionable for the game Monday, Oct. 19, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills could use Brown's speed on Monday. We'll see if he can actually get out there. It seems like he's trending in that direction and Brown's big-play ability is worth considering as a 'what the heck' flex if he plays in Week 6.

10. BUF - Zack Moss cleared after full practice

Source: Chiefs.com

Buffalo Bills RB Zack Moss (toe) practiced in full Saturday, Oct. 17, and doesn't carry an injury designation into the Week 6 game Monday, Oct. 19, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moss will be out there for the Week 6 contest against the Chiefs. He'll serve as a primary backup to Devin Singletary and is worth considering as a deep 'what the heck' flex.

11. DEN - RB Melvin Gordon declared out for Week 6

Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (illness) has been declared out for Week 6's game against the New England Patriots. He was diagnosed with strep throat and will not be traveling with the team on their flight.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon got strep throat the same week that he was cited for a DUI. Any team or league discipline may still be upcoming for the veteran back. Phillip Lindsay is back this week for the Broncos and he'll lead the way at the running back position. Royce Freeman will work as his primary backup.
