What To Expect From Le'Veon Bell In Kansas City

Howdy Folks,

We didn't have a game Thursday night but Le'Veon Bell to Kansas City was plenty of excitement.

Here's how our Sigmund Bloom sees the news about Le'Veon Bell.

"The Bell to Kansas City move is good for Bell because of the culture fit with Andy Reid, who always gives players a clean slate, and chance to win a ring. It's good for the Chiefs because rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire was a liability in short yardage and he hadn't made the impact plays in the passing game that Damien Williams provided regularly.

"Only fantasy teams with Edwards-Helaire should be disappointed at this development, as Bell should at a minimum get goal-line work and half of the carries, but if it's clear that like Ryan Tannehill, Robby Anderson, Kenyan Drake, and Devante Parker, Bell was held back by his head coach and not his lack of ability, then Bell could be the lead back in short order.

"Some of Edwards-Helaire's struggles were because of the lack of a push by the line, but Bell's hesitation and go running style could mitigate that. Bell can also line up in the slot and run routes detached from the formation, to give the Chiefs the option of having both on the field at the same time.

"Edwards-Helaire's weekly ceiling with Bell is a semi-successful RB2 - say Devin Singletary - and his floor is a player that we only use in bye/injury/emergency situations. Bell should be an everyweek play once he's up to speed - which will be at least a week because of a wait time due to league covid regulations - and he could even level off as an RB1 if he becomes a go-to red zone and passing game option like Damien Williams was.

"Edwards-Helaire wasn't providing the impact the Chiefs had hoped for when they took him in the first round of the 2020 draft, so they wisely acted fast when Bell became available."

Plus there were other stories too so let's get to it.

Free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell (Jets) will be signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to sources.

Bell goes to the top Super Bowl contender and can do a lot of damage as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. He's not going to suit up against the Bills on Monday night but will be available for Week 7. Bell is going to threaten rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire as the no.1 running for the team. We'll see how Andy Reid (and OC Eric Bieniemy) introduce Bell to the offense.

2. MIN - RB Dalvin Cook out again Thursday

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (groin) is not taking part in the team's practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cook's groin injury is not as serious as initially feared but we shouldn't see him this week. Instead, Alexander Mattison will be the lead back for the Vikings. Mattison is a RB1 for Fantasy GMs in Week 6.

3. CLE - WR Odell Beckham dealing with illness

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. (illness) was sent home from the team's facility Thursday, Oct. 15, with an unspecified illness.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see what his practice status is on Friday, and he may end up being a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Steelers. Stay tuned.

4. NE - QB Cam Newton practicing Thursday

Source: The Providence Journal - Mark Daniels

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton returned to practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton is back in action and should be ready to go against the Broncos on Sunday. The Broncos defense is not that strong unless they're playing the Jets....so Newton should perform like a QB1 for Fantasy GMs in Week 6.

5. CIN - WR A.J. Green isn't seeking trade

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) said Thursday, Oct. 15, he is frustrated with how his season has gone so far, but added that he wants to remain with the team. 'I'm just happy to be back out there,' Green said, via Ben Baby of ESPN.com. 'I know it's going to come over time. . . . I don't want them to force me anything.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green wants to finish his career with the Bengals but who knows if that's going to happen. He's banged up and no longer looks like the player he used to be. We doubt the Bengals would get much in return if Green was on the trade block.

6. NO - WR Michael Thomas fined, not suspended

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas was fined $58,823.53 for 'conduct detrimental to the team' and was inactive for New Orleans' Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, but he was not officially suspended by the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see Thomas back in action after the team's bye week this week. The team sent a message to Thomas about what will not be allowed, and he's likely learned his lesson.

7. WAS - QB Kyle Allen practices in full

Source: WashingtonFootball.com

Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen is the starter if he's healthy according to head coach Ron Rivera. Fantasy GMs have better options at quarterback.

8. WAS - Antonio Gibson upgraded Thursday

Source: WashingtonFootball.com

Washington Football Team RB Antonio Gibson (toe) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the rookie running back here. Gibson has great skill but has yet to really breakout. This week against the Giants he should perform like a RB2 for Fantasy GMs.

9. CIN - RB Joe Mixon does not practice

Source: The Athletic - Jay Morrison

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon (non-injury) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like just a day of rest here. Mixon should lead the way for the Bengals offense as they try to set things up for rookie QB Joe Burrow and the passing game.

10. DEN - RB Melvin Gordon back on field

Source: The Denver Post - Ryan O'Halloran

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (non-injury) returned to practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon was cited with a DUI on Tuesday, so his status for Week 6 is up in the air. Phillip Lindsay is back in action this week, so he could lead the way in the Broncos backfield -- even if Gordon plays against the Patriots on Sunday.

11. TB - WR Mike Evans upgraded Thursday

Source: Buccaneers.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a good sign for Evans. Even though he's not 100 percent, and we'll likely see Chris Godwin back this week, Evans should still perform like a WR1 for Fantasy GMs in Week 6.

12. BUF - QB Josh Allen practices in full

Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be curious to see how Allen and the Bills bounce back this week after getting dismantled by the Titans on Tuesday. Allen will be good to go for the Monday night game against the Chiefs.

13. GB - WR Davante Adams fully practices

Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams (hamstring) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adams is back this week for a big game against the Buccaneers. That means he's back in your lineup as a WR1 in Week 6.

14. NYG - WR Darius Slayton limited again

Source: Giants.com

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton (foot) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Slayton will need to practice fully on Friday in order for us to feel good about starting him in Week 6. He's a WR2 with upside against Washington on Sunday.

15. DET - RB Adrian Peterson misses practice

Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions RB Adrian Peterson (illness) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Let's see if the veteran can get back out there on Friday. He could perform like a RB3/flex option against the Jaguars on Sunday.

16. NYJ - Adam Gase to continue calling plays

Source: NFL Network - Kim Jones

New York Jets head coach Adam Gase will retain play-calling duties, according to the NFL Network's Kim Jones.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're surprised the Jets haven't made a head-coaching change, but that decision has to be close unless the team starts to show some signs of life. Gase has reportedly considered relinquishing that responsibility in an effort to jumpstart his team.

17. PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery listed as limited

Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (foot) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery is expected to return to the field in the near future. When he does return, we'll be observing him to see how he looks. The Eagles could certainly use more help at the position.

18. BUF - WR John Brown takes part in practice

Source: BuffaloBills.com

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR John Brown (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills could use Brown's speed on the field against the Chiefs on Monday night. We'll watch what his status is on Saturday before plugging him in as a WR3/flex option with upside.

19. TB - WR Chris Godwin a limited participant

Source: Buccaneers.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see Godwin out there for a big game against the Buccaneers. He's trending in the right direction but don't just set-it-and-forget-it with Godwin. Make sure he practices on Friday, and make sure that he's not a game-time decision. The point is; Fantasy GMs need to have other options at the ready.

20. TEN - WR A.J. Brown not at practice Thursday

Source: The Tennessean - Erik Bacharach

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown (knee) was absent from practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Brown can get out there on Friday. The Titans play the upstart Texans on Sunday and Brown would be a WR1 for Fantasy GMs if he can go.

21. PIT - WR Diontae Johnson a limited participant

Source: Steelers.com - Teresa Varley

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Diontae Johnson (back) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is trending to be back this week for the Steelers. He left the game in Week 5 and then rookie WR Chase Claypool had a monster, four-touchdown game. Even if Johnson plays, he's not 100 percent and the team would be foolish not to continue featuring Claypool. That makes Johnson more of a 'what the heck' flex play...if he plays...against the Browns on Sunday.

22. IND - Michael Pittman on track for Week 8 return

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Jim Ayello

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. (calf) was spotted standing on the sideline at practice on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pittman is a big-bodied rookie wide receiver who can win at the catch point regularly. He's set to return soon and could provide a new red-zone target for the Colts offense. He is still expected to return following the team's Week 7 bye.
