News And Notes From Around The League

Howdy Folks,

Good Wednesday to you. We're on that weekly routine now and the Thursday game is racing towards us. Let's go.

1. NO - WR Michael Thomas could miss several weeks

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Updating a previous story, New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas (ankle) could miss several weeks due to his high-ankle sprain being worse than originally believed, according to sources Tuesday, Sept. 15.

High-ankle sprains take a lot of time to properly heal. Thomas will want to push it to get out there as soon as possible but the team needs to be cautious. The simple fact is that Thomas may not look like himself for most of this season. Emmanuel Sanders and Tre'Quan Smith will get more targets while Thomas is down.

2. SF - WR Mohamed Sanu signing with Niners

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Mohamed Sanu (Patriots) is signing an undisclosed contract with the San Francisco 49ers, according to his agent Tuesday, Sept. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanu failed to impress during his time with the Patriots last year and couldn't make the team this year in training camp. The Patriots have a group of wide receivers lacking punch...just like the 49ers do. Sanu's ankle injury held him back but with the 49ers he might just have to play a larger role despite not being himself. Deebo Samuel is on Injured Reserve and the 49ers are desperate for help.

3. NYJ - Le'Veon Bell lands on injured reserve

Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Jets RB Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell is going to miss a few weeks on this list, and he does have an option to come back in Week 5 if he's ready. The Jets move forward with Frank Gore and Josh Adams in the backfield. Lamical Perine and Kalen Ballage are there now for depth as well.

4. DEN - RB Phillip Lindsay getting second opinion

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Updating a previous story, Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay (toe) is getting a second opinion on his turf toe injury, according to a source Tuesday, Sept. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is optimism Lindsay won't be out long but his status for Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers is in doubt. We'll see if Lindsay can practice on Wednesday. Our guess is that he'll miss practice but be aiming for a limited participation on Friday. Melvin Gordon was splitting time evenly with Lindsay before the injury. After Lindsay was out, Gordon got most of the workload with Royce Freeman get a small handful of snaps here and there.

5. PIT - RB James Conner not ruled out

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (ankle) won't be ruled out for Week 2, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, who said they'll leave the light on for him.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tomlin channeling his inner 'Motel 6' guy here. The Steelers were able to run the ball successfully with Benny Snell. He's a hot waiver wire pickup while Conner deals with this ankle injury. The Steelers also have Jaylen Samuels and Anthony McFarland to get some work in the backfield if need be.

6. NYJ - NY Jets put two on IR

Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) and LB Blake Cashman (groin) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mims is a talented rookie who we'll continue to watch in dynasty formats. This hamstring injury has been problematic for the rookie for some time. Shutting him down on IR for at least a few weeks could help get him right and get him on the field.

7. DEN - KJ Hamler could be cleared soon

Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos WR KJ Hamler (hamstring) is expected to return a full practice this week, according to head coach Vic Fangio.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamler has a ton of speed and can take a short pass and turn it into a long gain. His speed and playmaking ability could help out an offense desperate for points.

8. ARI - RB D.J. Foster added to active roster

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Arizona Cardinals RB D.J. Foster was officially promoted to the active roster from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement Tuesday, Sept. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foster is an all-around back who can contribute as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. He won't be in line for much action if he does get active for game day.

9. NYJ - RB Kalen Ballage reunites with Adam Gase

Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini

Free-agent RB Kalen Ballage (Dolphins) signed an undisclosed contract with the New York Jets on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ballage is a big back who doesn't run with power. He tries to use speed and elusiveness to make play but he's not that fast or elusive. Ballage can catch passes out of the backfield consistently. With Le'Veon Bell on Injured Reserve for at least a few weeks, Ballage gives the Jets depth behind Frank Gore and Josh Adams.

10. DEN - CB A.J. Bouye suffers dislocated shoulder

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Denver Broncos CB A.J. Bouye (shoulder) was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder Tuesday, Sept. 15. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the team is still determining how much associated damage he suffered to the shoulder.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bouye is the Broncos no.1 cornerback even though he's more of a no.2 cornerback in the league. The Broncos secondary is a weak spot on their defense, so keep this in mind when choosing players for your starting lineup. Up next, the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2.

11. DEN - WR Courtland Sutton in question for Week 2?

Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton (shoulder) appears to be a question mark for Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers based on comments from head coach Vic Fangio on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Fangio told reporters he hopes Sutton 'can do more by the end of the week.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos passing attack was okay against the Titans with TE Noah Fant and rookie WR Jerry Jeudy leading the way. Getting Sutton back would benefit QB Drew Lock, especially when the team gets near the end zone.
