1. JAX - RB Leonard Fournette released

Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette was waived Monday, Aug. 31. Head coach Doug Marrone said this was strictly a performance-based decision, and he wasn't a problem in the locker room.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars were trying desperately to trade the veteran running back but couldn't get anything in return. Fournette can handle a large workload and he's proven to be a better receiver than some thought he could be. Some team will have interest out there and Fournette should land with a new team in the near future.

2. NO - RB Alvin Kamara not in camp

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara has had an unexcused absence from training camp over the last three days, and the reason for his lack of participation is believed to be contract-related, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter per sources.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kamara is set to make just over $2.1 million in the final year of his contract. The Saints will likely give him more guaranteed cash or extend him to deals similar to what Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry got from their respective teams. Fantasy GMs will need to watch this situation closely with the regular season fast approaching.

A big blow to the Chargers outstanding defense. James will be out a significant amount of time, but they'll have a timetable after surgery.

Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions RB D'Andre Swift (leg) is expected to be limited in practice Monday, Aug. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Swift's leg injury has opened the door for Kerryon Johnson. Reporters around the team already speculate that Johnson will be the starter for Week 1. Swift, when healthy, will work as a reserve runner but has the upside to start in the future.

5. BUF - Buffalo acquires Andre Smith

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Carolina Panthers LB Andre X. Smith was acquired by the Buffalo Bills Monday, Aug. 31, in exchange for a conditional 2023 seventh-round draft choice, according to a source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith was a seventh-round pick out of North Carolina in the 2018 NFL draft. He's a solid run-defender but the way he can make the final roster for the Bills is on special teams.

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero

Las Vegas Raiders CB Prince Amukamara was released Monday, Aug. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

8. DEN - OLB Bradley Chubb getting close

Source: Around The NFL

Denver Broncos LB Bradley Chubb (knee) is expected to be near full health by Week 1, according to comments made by head coach Vic Fangio on Monday, Aug. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chubb injured his knee last October and is not even 12 months removed from the injury. He's been limited at Broncos practice and was held out for most of Saturday's scrimmage and on Monday's non-padded practice. Expect the team to take it easy on him with only a few days of training camp left. Chubb should be out there for most of the snaps in Week 1 against the Titans.

9. NYJ - WR Donte Moncrief signs with NYJ

Source: NewYorkJets.com - Ethan Greenberg

Free-agent WR Donte Moncrief signed an undisclosed deal with the New York Jets Monday, Aug. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets have a banged up WR corps with both Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims injured and missing time. Moncrief failed to impress in 2019 with either the Steelers or the Panthers and is no lock for the 53-man roster...even with those other injuries.

10. CHI - Napoleon Maxwell returns to Chicago

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Free-agent RB Napoleon Maxwell (Bears) signed with the Chicago Bears Monday, Aug. 31. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maxwell was a backup in college at Florida International and initially signed with the Bears as a college free agent after the 2020 NFL draft. He was released before training camp began due to the 80-man limit on roster size. Maxwell is consistent as a runner and has a nose for the end zone but none of his traits are going to overly impress. We'll see if he can make the practice squad.

11. NE - RB Lamar Miller to return to practice

Source: NFLCommunications.com

New England Patriots RB Lamar Miller (undisclosed) passed his physical Monday, Aug. 31, and has been activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller was signed by the team a few weeks ago and now the pressure is on with the regular season opener less than two weeks away. The veteran back can play on all three downs and should work his way into a Patriots backfield rotation that includes Damien Harris, Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead. There is no guarantee that Miller makes the final cut with such a jam-packed backfield.

12. NYG - CB Logan Ryan agrees to deal with NYG

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent DB Logan Ryan (Titans) agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $7.5 million with the New York Giants on Monday, Aug. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports indicated Ryan was looking for around $10 million annually and he obviously didn't get that...but it's a good haul for the veteran. Ryan can play corner or safety and that versatility will come in handy for the Giants, especially because CB DeAndre Baker has some legal issues to attend to and rookie S Xavier McKinney has a broken foot.
